If you read a sefer while the Rav is speaking you are saying, I could care less what you have to say and I would rather be anywhere else, but here listening to you. If you open a sefer during davening you are saying the same thing to hashem as well.

I worked for a Chineese (Taiwaneese actually) owned company for a number of years and they brought in some sort of “mystic” once a month to go over the place with his “powers”. Several times a year I was asked to changed my seat because he felt the energy in the room would be better if the seating was arranged differently. The time he told me not to sit in the line of site of the elevator because someone might walk out with a gun and start shooting was surreal. I kind of miss the kookiness that went on there.

Wear a blue shirt and/or a grey hat, everyone will be talking about you (mostly behind your back) and will know who you are. No need for a name tag.

Any place that sells jewish music has his music. Try mostlymusic.com and eichlers.com just for starters. You could probably bring up many more sites via google search.

If you do go to a loung, keep rotating them. You don’t want to be like the guy who ALWAYS went to Rockefeller Center and had the coat check guy exclaim “man you have to teach me your tricks bro, 3rd good looking girl this week”. 🙂

BP. A salesman in an Armani suit will definitely get your attention. If he has a lousy product, or is a lousy salesman, you won’t buy anything. Kids might be able to pick out the best dressed teacher, but they also know, who is teaching them something.

Took a girl to a Ranger/Flyers game. If I’m not mistaken the featured combatents were Craig Berube and George McPhee (yes it was quite some time ago). She couldn’t follow the puck.or understand why the highlight of the night was the fight. It was a tough choice, but we didn’t sit in or near the blue seats.

Try this link, for a pretty extensive (although probably not all inclusive) listing of certifying agencies, and their contact information.

    http://www.kashrut.com/agencies/#__AU

Note added by moderator, on this website is printed (but might be missed):

“Inclusion of an agency on this list does not constitute an endorsement by Kashrut.com of their supervision or standards.”

this is just a listing, not all are necessarily accepted heksharim.

So you have no issue with a morah in a denim skirt, t-shirt and snood, so long as she is neat and clean? I don’t want to put words in your mouth but its pretty much the opposite of many things you have said so far, unless I totally missed the boat.

My kids best morahs were the ones in denim and snoods. The morahs who were always prim and proper were to busy worrying about their nails or their clothing than helping my child with the project.

In the business worl, I’ve worked in companies where the dress code for men was a suit and tie (tie worn all day, jacket they “allowed” you to take off) and in a company where the dress code is “as long as its not jeans and a t-shirt”. I didn’t find that the mode of dress set the tone for the office. Those in charge set the tone with their attitude.

Perhaps my attitude towards clothing stems from the fact that I’m not from the “chitzonios is meorer the pnimuis” crowd.

Wisewoman. Now you are equating casual with shlumpiness.

Casual does not equal coming late. Does not equal disorganized. Morah can walk in late and be disorganized wearing a Prada suit.

Feif. Trying to understand the logic. Just because they wont go after you, it makes it legal? They specifically print on the package the music is protected by copyright laws, which expressly prohibits reproduction without permission. They may not go after me or you for a single song because of the expense involved, but they will go after a larger player (remember Napster?).

    What is copyright infringement?

As a general matter, copyright infringement occurs when a copyrighted work is reproduced, distributed, performed, publicly displayed, or made into a derivative work without the permission of the copyright owner.

I believe halacha will agree that dina dimalchusa dina when it comes to copywright law.

This may be relevant to anyone who wants to make a copy of anything digital that is copywrighted.

I don’t think preschool kids know the difference between a slinky skirt, flairy skirt, sneakers, loafers, snood, hat, gucci shawl, prada handbag or a walmart gym bag. Don’t make such a big deal out of it.

I asked the following shayla to my rav. My son got into a fight with a classmate. The classmate took my sons glasses and threw them across the room, in retaliation my son took something of the classmates and threw it on the floor and it shattered. That night we received a phone call from the classmates parents demanding payment. We asked our Rav. He replied, halachicly speaking you do not have to pay anything as your son is a kattan. L’maan Hashalom, I advise you to buy them a new item. I didnt ask for any sources, and perhaps this is not the middos issue helpful meant, but my Rav did bring up the shalom angle.

To a non jew, a jew is a jew. I personally have been called “a hasid” by non jews and I look nothing like a chassid. I’ve been called Rabbi too and I do nothing to perpetuate such a myth.

Yes, its true that you cant lump “all hasids shop there” and “all hasids are on govt programs” together, and it is a ridiculous comment, for anyone to make. What is important is why someone would make such a statement and why they believe it to be true. When confronted with situations such as presented, I dont even try to answer “well, every group has its bad apples” or anything similar. I tackle it head on. I would answer, really, all hasidic girls shop there, you keep tabs on hasidic girls shopping habits that you can make such a statement?

Off the topic: It sounds a bit funny that this person thinks (in your own words) that hassidic girls are cute. I would have shomrim keep an eye on this guy. Apparantly he keeps tabs on chassidish girls. He sounds like a pervert.

“The Shulchan Aruch follows this approach of Rambam.”

And the chofetz chaim says that this halacha was applicable to the singular circumstances prevelant back then. Those circumstances are not found “these days” (the CC said this in his day).

Myfriend. If you didnt quote Rashi, why did you jump down my throat when I made a comment that I doubted the veracity of the quote attributed to Rashi? You then tell me to look at a Rashi in sotah. I did. Again, no Rashi on daf chaf in sotah says what was claimed Rashi said. Neither does the gemara in kiddushin, according to either opinion, Ben Azzai or R’ Eliezer (elazar?), certainly not according to the way Rashi explains the gemara. If you did not say anything about Rashi, then my comment wasnt pointed to you and you should chill out. I’ll ignore your snide remarks I’m not looking to get into a tit for tat with you.

Since you are giving these 2 sources. Why don’t you tell me what you believe they are teaching us?

“Statistics show that guys who get married at eighteen have more years of a happy marriage on average.

That is because guys who get married at 18 are generally more mature than average guys. If they had gotten married at 23 they’d be even more mature and even better off.”

I’d suggest it is because they have 5 more years of marriage than those who get married at 23.

Why would you want to? If they are busy with MLB, NFL,Nascar, DWTS, American Idol and the other million options available, they won’t be busy worrying about Jews. if the evangelicals didn’t have Nascar and footbal to keep them busy all weekend, what do you think they will be busy with? Chevra. I live in NYC. I stopped buying chalav yisroel milk for the same reason. Yes, its a lot better than 10 years ago, but compared to the chalav stam companies. Its bad. It may not be the companies only though. It could be the handling all the way through. Did the store refrigerate it right away? Is the fridge at proper temperature. I have a bigger beef with the chalav yisrael companies. If ever there was a community that would buy gallon sized bottes of milk it is the chalav yisrael drinking community with the large, k’eh, families. Yet there is not a single C’Y company in the NYC area that offers it.

I hate to say it. A 25 year old girl is damned if she does, damned if she doesnt. If she is 25 and not doing much with herself, she is a shlepper and who wants her. She goes to school and furthers her education, she is overeduacted and nobody wants her. There are only so many kindergarten assistant positions available, OT and PT fields are saturated and many cant find work in the field. What SHOULD they do? Good for them, for furthering their education. If I had a son old enough for a 25 year old girl law school student/graduate, I would set the two of them up.
