regarding the American Journal of Therapeutics, that study was retracted after,
“[t]he paper’s irregularities came to light when Jack Lawrence, a master’s student at the University of London, was reading it for a class assignment and noticed that some phrases were identical to those in other published work. When he contacted researchers who specialize in detecting fraud in scientific publications, the group found other causes for concern, including dozens of patient records that seemed to be duplicates, inconsistencies between the raw data and the information in the paper, patients whose records indicate they died before the study’s start date, and numbers that seemed to be too consistent to have occurred by chance.”

appdevParticipantSorry to hear that you aren’t feeling well
What helped me was a healthy diet, & lots of tea / fluids. In general I take a daily multi vitamin and exercise, try to get movement into your daily routine, even if it’s difficult it’ll help your body keep everything flowing. (Don’t exert yourself, this can be dangerous, just minor movements until you regain strength.)
appdevParticipantYou can find out information be googleing, them. Sift through the noise to get a picture of what you’d be signing up for.
On a side note, don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
appdevParticipantGenerally they have gaming gpus. Depending on your workload this might be overkill (or you would be better suited with a workstation gpu).
What are you planning on using the computer for?
appdevParticipantI’d install that app
appdevParticipantJust use the regular Google keyboard (search for Gboard in the play store) and add Hebrew as a second language.
appdevParticipantYah, to echo iacisrmma, your computer is infected with something. You need to clean it up.
appdevParticipantyou can install a filtering extension from the chrome store
November 21, 2016 11:06 pm at 11:06 pm in reply to: What do you do when everybody around you is getting married? #1194855appdevParticipantTo quote flatbusher, take a deep breath. Slow down.
20 is young. Very young. You are still growing up and maturing. It is 100% ok to not be married at 20.
It sounds like you need to ‘get out of your head’ a bit. Very often the we work ourselves up and become anxious from the voices in our head. Breath. Go for a walk. Get some fresh air. Do something that you enjoy. Most importantly don’t let yourself fall into a negative spin.
I have faith that you will find the right person at the right time. With a healthy state of mind I know you’ll be ready to build a bais neman b’yirael.
appdevParticipantOn this topic, does anyone know what their policy is regarding transferring credits from other Yeshivas?
My brother just got there from the Mir (Isreal) and was told that BMG does not honor credit from the Mir (nor the bais medresh he went to before that).
Is that the case? Does anyone have any suggestions how to combine credits from the different Yeshivas he learnt in?
appdevParticipantComlink
No! That’s exactly what I’m saying. You can choose to open it. If you don’t like wasting time with WA disable notifications and review it once a day.
Being tied to it and jumping at every message is exactly the problem!
appdevParticipantPeople have a choice how to use technology. Just because you are able to send mass messages/videos/pictures does not mean you have to.
I’m an app developer and I don’t use whats app. I never had a desire to be a part of it. I use google chat, txt, email, and phone calls to communicate (probably in that order).
Being addicted to anything is unhealthy, whether it’s Alcohol, WhatsApp, Video games, YW Coffee room, etc…
To address the OP, the Gedolim did ban texting in the past. But as with all bans, they fade over time. (I saw an old ban regarding cassette players when they first came out). Now Whats App is the ‘thing to ban’. Give it a year and WA will be ok and the next thing will be banned.

That is the binary representation of ‘?’ (just btw).
The computer stores the letter Aleph that way in memory.
appdevParticipantbentzion, did the mods send you the links I posted in the other thread?
appdevParticipantStarting salaries w/o a college degree are in the 50k-60k range.
With a college degree 70k-90k range.
As a mid level software engineer +100k
Senior level can get 130k – 150k
If you specialize in an area you can pull in close or over 200k.
The amount of hours depends on the work environment. Start-ups and smaller companies generally have longer hours, but more dynamic work environments and potential for a huge windfall down the road.
Larger companies can be more stable, offering a standard 40 hr week but can feel more sterile and ‘corporaty’.
But you should know that software engineering is hard work. Be prepared to put in lots of time and effort to grow your knowledge and skill set. Also, you will never stop learning. As a software engineer you always need to stay abreast with new technologies or risk becoming a dinosaur.
appdevParticipantThe first time I heard this term (when I was in Yeshiva in Israel) I found it highly offensive. What makes the rest of the Unites States ‘Out of Town’?? There are cities that are bigger than NY (shocker, I know), are they oot too?
Since then I have learnt that being a New Yorker is nothing to be proud of, in fact many people introduce themselves as ‘from Flatbush/Brooklyn but not Flatbushy/Brooklyny.
Sam2, growing up out of NY gives us a different life perspective that New Yorkers could never dream of having. ‘Out of towners’ are knowledgeable, open-minded, kind, considerate, accepting, and non-judgmental. New Yorkers (Brooklyn in particular) are lucky if they can check off 2 of those traits.
(Disclaimer, not all New Yorkers are like this. I don’t mean to rip on an entire city, especially one as large and diverse as NY. There are many good people in this city. But I have no patience for anyone who uses this term. It is rude, offensive, and ignorant. I will not respond here. Please let this thread die.)
appdevParticipantSome of both. I used to freelance, now I work for a company. Occasionally I do a freelance project on the side.
I also have some personal apps that bring in a residual (albeit small) income.
There is a lot of free learning information online regarding app development. I was in Touro for computer science and I watched a YouTude course in Android Development (called Marakana Android Bootcamp) on the side.
If you are interested, and the mods allow it, I will share some links to resources that I used.
If you are motivated and willing to work hard for it, you can be developing apps in 6-12 months.
appdevParticipantI make apps 🙂
appdevParticipantYes, Shabbos & YT also
appdevParticipantBeis Yehuda has one (it’s upstairs)
360 N La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036
appdevParticipantI will judge you for that.
appdevParticipantSounds like fun 😀
appdevParticipantWho can it possibly be?
appdevParticipantThis is disconcerting…
appdevParticipantHah! Nice try princess.
appdevParticipantMissP – his name… Froggie…
Clearly hes just trolling. Comp sci is the highest paying field out of college and growing rapidly (especially in the mobile environment).
Let froggie croak while we rake it in 😀
appdevParticipantYishivish is understood differently by many people. Some believe it means white shirt and black pants. Others say it means tzitis hanging out. Some say it means wearing a hat & jacket whenever you’re in public.
Point being, when someone tells you a boy/girl/institution is yeshivish ask them what they mean by that and hear their version of yeshivish.
appdevParticipantTo be or not to be…
Whether tis’ nobler to lurk in the shadows or pipe up with profound presumptions…
This is the coffee room.
appdevParticipantYes
appdevParticipantPrincess, don’t feed the frogs…
appdevParticipantmag868: I’m a software engineer.
I used to work at a start-up. Was putting in 60+ hrs each week (this was during the summer so Shabbos was late). I quit that job (for a number of reasons) and went to work at a large company. Now I work a standard 40 hr week.
As a software engineer your hours will be determined by the team you work with. Make sure to clarify this during the interview process.
December 31, 2015 10:57 pm at 10:57 pm in reply to: Why are jewish clothing stores so expensive? #1119918appdevParticipantDon’t shop a a store that over charges you. Clothing does not need a hecsher and if something is to your liking (and fits your tznius levels) buy it from a non jewish store.
appdevParticipantTomo is a great place. I highly recommend it. Very serious guys and top notch Rabbeim. Rabbi Meiselman is brilliant and is involved with each student.
A lot of Yesodei guys go there for one or two years then go back to Ohr HaChaim/Landers for college though Touro. Tomo’s credits are easily transferable to Touro.
appdevParticipantDaas,
This thread should not be about a general question like that. The poster merely asked a question relating to his personal circumstances.
Why don’t you make a thread for that question so that people can discuss it over there without derailing this topic.
appdevParticipantI was in yeshiva for high school then in BM for a number of years. I knew I wasn’t gonna be there forever, my heart just wasn’t in it. So I enrolled in Touro and now I B”H have a successful career developing mobile apps.
I’ve spoken with my friends who come from similar backgrounds and the common denominator that I’ve seen is that when one is in yeshiva/kollel they aren’t aware of the career options available. A close friend of mine is in college now for mechanical engineering and he loves it. When he was in yeshiva (then kollel) he never dreamed of loving calculus and thermodynamics, but now that he’s been exposed to options he chose one that he enjoys.
So my advice to you would be along the lines of Frozen’s comment above. Enrole in Touro and take some basic level courses to see what you like. Once you’ve found a topic that you enjoy, figure out what are some career options in that field.
Under no circumstances should you ‘settle’ for a career that you dislike. It is ok to temporarily work at a subpar job, but always know that you are working towards a career that you want. You will be spending 40+ hours a week at your job and it will become miserable very quickly if you don’t like what you are doing. Trust me, it’s not worth it. I left a great job because the work environment was toxic and it was affecting me on my off time.
@RebYid Anyone can work at a job they love. I think the hardest part is to figure out what you love. Once you know that make a plan to get there and do it. The path may not be easy, but if you want something you have to work hard for it.
To all the people posting negative or unhelpful remarks:
This person has a serious life question and you have no place ridiculing him or posting nonsense comments. None of you know his situation and have no right to judge. Many people today have this dilemma and I’m sure there are others reading this thread. Please try to be helpful and understanding.
appdevParticipantWith the nexus 5x you dont need a removable battery. most phones today are going the non-removable route as it allows for a larger internal battery and a more rigid cell phone body.
appdevParticipantGet the Nexus 5x (directly from Google). It works on all the US carriers, and you don’t need to sign up for any contract so you can get a good monthly price.
The 16 GB version is 330. It is well worth the 80 above your 250 price limit. I is a phone that will last you 2-3 years.
I just bought 3 of them (for my parents, and grandfather).
Do not get a cheap Samsung phone. It will be nothing but trouble and headache for you.

November 24, 2015 2:52 pm at 2:52 pm in reply to: Headphone/earphone recommendations, please #1113912appdevParticipantSennheiser all the way! They make headphones from $10 to $50,000 (yes, 50k).
Also, you should figure out what type of headphones you like.
Do you want in-ear earbuds?
On-ear headphones?
Over-ear headphone?
Open-back or close-back?
Noise canceling?
What is your price range?
What will you be using them for? Gaming, music, media? What type of music do you like to listen to?
appdevParticipantApp Development
appdevParticipantWin 10 is awesome. Been using it since the beta. The upgrade process was seamless for me. It took about 30 min and went flawlessly.
appdevParticipantSeriously, did you Google these guys? It’s a scam straight up. Check out their complaints online.
appdevParticipantIf you do get rid of it please send it to me. I can always use an extra one.
Thanks!

January 23, 2015 6:14 am at 6:14 am in reply to: Any Computer Graphics Design course for men? #1054952appdevParticipantI don’t think Touro has design courses for men
@LIYid
If you are just looking to learn the tools then YouTube is an excellent resource. There are countless hours of tutorials and free content available there. Learn the tools, create a portfolio, and you’re good to go.
ps. Once you are done you can print your own certificate 😉
January 23, 2015 6:07 am at 6:07 am in reply to: what are the job options for a bais yaakov type girl? #1055327appdevParticipantWhy don’t you go to Touro or another frum program?
Your options are very limited without a college degree. If you don’t want to spend 3-4 years in school look at a certification program in the field you are interested. They are often almost as good as a degree with a lot less time.
You should try to figure out something though. I believe it’s an unrealistic expectation to rely on the in-laws money while your husband learns all day. Today, one or both spouses need to work to support the family.
ps. If you have a knack for computers then programming might be for you. I make apps for people and I’m still in college. In the tech world people don’t care about the degree as long as you can do the work.
pps. There are more women in Touro Flatbush’s Computer Science division than men.
appdevParticipantThis is more normal than the ‘system’ would like to admit.
appdevParticipantI can put up an ad for her in one of my apps if you’d like…
appdevParticipantApp Development.
It’s fun and pays well even w/o a degree.
