February 14, 2019 1:17 pm at 1:17 pm in reply to: Day camps ; BP vs. Flatbush – price, hours & program #1679766anonymous JewParticipantWell, it might be the same reason bp/chassidish yeshivas have such low tuition. They probably pay ( when they do pay ) very low salaries.
February 13, 2019 10:04 am at 10:04 am in reply to: how about sending a simple mishloach manos? #1678608anonymous JewParticipantKnaidlach, the libertarian says I don’t like fancy shaloach manos, so i won’t send one. A liberal/leftist ( like you) says i don’t like it so nobody should send one
anonymous JewParticipantDovid BT, and your point being?
anonymous JewParticipantMrs sarah levine is half right re Long Island.
The first minyan is geared to the train schedule and is faster. The second minyan starts over an hour later and is not geared to the schedule. We’ve had retirees complain the first minyan is too fast. They were told adapt or go to the second minyan.February 10, 2019 9:29 pm at 9:29 pm in reply to: Should developers be expected to build affordable housing?👷🏻♂️👷🏽♂️🏗🏚🏢💳 #1677061anonymous JewParticipantCTL, and you ignored how badly run Conn is. For years, they’ve plugged huge budget gaps by raising taxes, not cutting spending. Well, there is just so much that taxes can be raised. And, before you blame Trump, like Cuomo did, they’re not leaving because of the Federal $10,000 cap on state taxes. They’re leaving because of the high taxes!!
February 10, 2019 12:23 pm at 12:23 pm in reply to: Should developers be expected to build affordable housing?👷🏻♂️👷🏽♂️🏗🏚🏢💳 #1676806anonymous JewParticipantCTL, Connecticut is so well run. It’s big cities are virtually bankrupt , and people and businesses are leaving in droves. Last year, only NJ and Illinois exceeded Conn in tje % of outbound population moves. MetroNorth continues to use ancient commuter cars on its New Haven branch because Conn can’t afford to pay for new ones. Wealthy residents had been providing a third of tax revenues and they are now leaving. Nearly half of the state budget goes to public union salaries, benefits and pensions.
February 7, 2019 5:28 pm at 5:28 pm in reply to: Should developers be expected to build affordable housing?👷🏻♂️👷🏽♂️🏗🏚🏢💳 #1676085anonymous JewParticipantSmerel, what a great idea! Charge an impact fee for cutting an illegal driveway. Charge a fee to the huge halls in Williamsburg and Flatbush for inconvenience to the neighborhood because of the increased noise and traffic from the cars ( plus filling parking spaces with guest’s cars ).
February 6, 2019 3:05 pm at 3:05 pm in reply to: WATCH YOUR POCKETS! Thief Stealing At Williamsburg Weddings #1675239anonymous JewParticipantDY, and so I did. My apologies
February 6, 2019 3:05 pm at 3:05 pm in reply to: Photos & Shidduchim – Appropriate Or Not?🖼️🤵👰 #1675246anonymous JewParticipantActually, of the two relatively recent additions to the shidduch process ( resumes and pictures ) pictures make the most sense. Resumes are rarely truthful as people will rarely include unflattering details and references. However, pictures are much harder to fake
February 6, 2019 10:27 am at 10:27 am in reply to: WATCH YOUR POCKETS! Thief Stealing At Williamsburg Weddings #1674995anonymous JewParticipantDY, with all due respect carrying a wallet in my pants pocket never interfered with dancing, no matter how energetic. And, what do they do when the temperature is in the 70s and 80s?
February 6, 2019 8:04 am at 8:04 am in reply to: WATCH YOUR POCKETS! Thief Stealing At Williamsburg Weddings #1674873anonymous JewParticipantThis story smells. They all leave money in coat pockets? Ever heard of a wallet? A purse? The hall knew but did nothing?
anonymous JewParticipantIn NY, the top 1% already pays 46% of the ststes incone tax, which is why more wealthy people are moving out. Most wealthy residents of Connecticut don’t agree with CTL as Conn has proportionately lost more wealthy taxpayers than NY. BTW, I admire CTL’s ability to generalize from his client base and smear all people of inherited wealth. Is he honest enough to tell them what he really thinks about them?
February 5, 2019 6:47 am at 6:47 am in reply to: Should developers be expected to build affordable housing?👷🏻♂️👷🏽♂️🏗🏚🏢💳 #1674202anonymous JewParticipantJoseph, and what if no variance is required? If zoning allows an apartment building , you don’t need a variance for luxury housing. Laws requiring rent control actually discourage affordable housing.
anonymous JewParticipantActually, none of them are towns. They are all part of the Town of Hempstead ( the oldest town in the U.S
, founded in 1644 ). Two are villages ( Lawrence and Inwood ) two ( Woodmere and Cedarhurst ) are hamlets the fifth, Hewlett, is a combination of villages and hamlets. The difference comes down between incorporated with its own elected officials ( villages ) or being unincorporated areas ( hamlets ) governed directly by the Town of Hempstead. Historically, Inwood never had much of a Jewish population, but it has picked up in recent years because of it’s ( relatively speaking ) lower price of housesFebruary 4, 2019 9:04 am at 9:04 am in reply to: What is the best NY State of Health insurance plan? #1673354anonymous JewParticipantJoseph, exactly how do you know this about United Healthcare ?
February 3, 2019 8:01 am at 8:01 am in reply to: Is it healthy for yehiva bochurim to learn from a artscroll? #1672733anonymous JewParticipantThe irony of these types of questions is that the Gemorah was written in Aramaic because that was the everyday language of the masses . There was nothing intrinsically holy about it. The Amoraim and Tannaim composed it in the language everyone spoke. If the Gemorah was written in modern day USA, it would be in English.
anonymous JewParticipantTlik, your comment about letting the abuser move away shows total ignorance. All that does is give the abuser fresh opportunities to abuse where nobody knows his history. How many times, including on this blog., have people misused lashon harah and misera to stop the old community from warning the new one.
anonymous JewParticipantWhere does it say he lives in five towns? BTW, there is a drug problem in Flatbush too ( teens who daven with father in non-MO shuls and then hang out on Ocean Parkway after supper ). My nephew ( a caterer) , and others, had been asked to hire these kids for Friday night simchas to keep them off the street. He had to drop out of the program because the drug use made the kids too unreliable.
anonymous JewParticipantWhile we’re at it, get rid of bain hazmanim time off.
Joseph’s school was so tough they made him walk uphill both ways
anonymous JewParticipantTlik, the perpetrators could not have done so much damage had they not been protected, by both the schools and the community . My sister was molested 65 years ago , so it’s been going on for a long time ( nothing happened to the molester ). Yeshivas have boards withh wealthy members and owners of yeshivas often have other assets. I wouldn’t be surprised if they go after Agudah as they for a long time advocated telling rabbonim, not the police.
anonymous JewParticipantJoseph, Bais Yaacov started because more and more girls, ignorant of yiddiskeit ( even in chashuva families ) were becoming not religious. Also, learning from momma produced and replicated a lot of ignorance passing as halacha. The following is a true anecdote and I’m sure not an isolated incident. 50 years ago i was at one of my aunts home . Another aunt accused her of treifing a chicken . Why? The chicken was being cooked in a horizontal pot and momma always used a vertical pot. The answer? The aunt replied that sh ed had asked my grandmother why she used a vertical pot and she was told it was the only pot she had that was big enough
anonymous JewParticipantFSM, and you know that they sleep until noon ….
anonymous JewParticipantFirst, the issue is to define “tznius problem”
If his problem is defined as women walking with sleeves above the elbow and knee length dresses and skirts, then it is truly his problem.
People sometimes think because it’s “their” community, they get to regulate/complain about how people dress. It happens in Boro Park on 13th Ave and it happened in Williamsburg when the City put in bicycle lanes on Bedford avenue ( people objected to immodestly dressed women riding thru Williamsburg ).anonymous JewParticipantCoffee addict, relax. It was worded clearly but he mrant the original role was to allow people to get to work and the current role is to allow the wife to go to the regular minyan

anonymous JewParticipantUnfortunately, too many families have let mental issues go untreated and unacknowledged because they were worried it would ruin the shidduch opportunities of their other children
anonymous JewParticipantThere was a reason for the use of West Lawrence as an address. When the first pioneers moved to Far Rockaway in the 1970s and 1980s, Far Rockaway had become a crime infested slum. 6 bedroom homes on Reids Lane were on the market for $18,000 and people couldn’t get mortgages for them ( my sister tried but the banks had redlined the area ). Customers had to be buzzed into the kosher bakery on Mott St because it had been held up so many times. My wife’s friend was pistol whipped in her apartment house lobby by a mugger during the daytime.
So, people who moved into the section of Far Rockaway that bordered on the western edge of Lawrence started using West Lawrence as an address to avoid the Far Rockaway stigma ( they still got their mail because they used the correct zip code )anonymous JewParticipantUbiq, i appreciate the time your taking and i believe i understand your point. My issue is the use of the word cheat. In the tuna example, if the heimishe wants to check every fish because they won’t accept a tuna acceptable to the OU, then it’s not an issue of cheating. Last i checked, Twizzlers doesn’t use tuna.
So, here is the question Joseph keeps dodging around and refuses to answer. What proof do you have , specifically to this product, that the heimishe hashgacha is willing to hire full time mashgichim to prevent cheating? Do they do the same for all their products?January 11, 2019 3:13 pm at 3:13 pm in reply to: Yeshiva Fundrasing using Cigar Rolling and Wine Tasting #1661091anonymous JewParticipantYapchick, it’s always about the money. The yeshiva in question ( i don’t know any details ) most likely can’t charge its families anywhere near what it costs per child. If you want top quality rebbis and pay them a good living wage, well, that costs money. That’s nothing new.
January 11, 2019 10:38 am at 10:38 am in reply to: Yeshiva Fundrasing using Cigar Rolling and Wine Tasting #1660997anonymous JewParticipantA. How are these wine tasters getting home, if they drove to event?
B. As far as setting examples for kids, how much worse than the posters is kids seeing their fathers having too much to drink at shul kiddushes each Shabbos after davening?anonymous JewParticipantUbiq, in his jan 7 post at 8:59 pm, Joseph said preventing cheating required full time mashgichim
anonymous JewParticipantUbiquitin and joseph
Joseph said Bloom requires full time mashgichim to prevent cheating when OU mashgichim aren’t around. To me, that says they don’t trust how the OU supervises.
Joseph, how big is the Neblitz hashgacha? How many mashgichim do they employ? Where is the Twizzler plant located? Again, this is a vegan product so what is Bloom afraid of that they can afford full time mashgichim? You mentioned possible using utensils that might have come into contact with meat, milk or trief. In other words, you don’t trust the OU. When a utensil needs replacement, what does Bloom do to assure kashrus?
Does Bloom mandate full time mashgichim at every plant of every product they supervise? If so, how do they afford it?anonymous JewParticipantCTL, that’s so tolerant of you. Everyone in flyover country is a redneck. Can you be a little more condescending and bigoted?
anonymous JewParticipantHow do you know this ? Just because you say it doesn’t make it true.
January 8, 2019 2:47 pm at 2:47 pm in reply to: Any Recommendation For A Good Dentist In Flatbush #1658933anonymous JewParticipantLower, ask the dentist. Also. Go on the UHC website and look at their panel of dentists
anonymous JewParticipantJoseph, they have supervision, the OU. Do you have proof that the OU can”t be trusted? Has Bloom told you that’s why they are there or are you making up stories again.
anonymous JewParticipantCTLAWYER, it’s called sarcasm. As you sit in your compound, maybe you didn’t understand the hyperbole of the Stalin reference.
anonymous JewParticipantJoseph, are you simply guessing and making things up? As per Twizzlers website, Twizzlers is also advertised as a vegan product ( no meat or dairy products or components) so, what cheating are they afraid of.
anonymous JewParticipantJoseph, if the Bloom Twizzlers have OU’s, why would they need their own full time mashgichim?
anonymous JewParticipant2scents, you make it sound so simple. My hospital alone would receive up to 800 requests a month from the FDNYalone, looking for insurance info. We complied only because of an agreement negotiated by the Greater NY Hosp Assoc. We ignored requests from other ambulance companies ( private or volunteer).
If , as according to you most arrivals didn’t need, immediate treatment, they didn’t need an ambulance.January 3, 2019 5:41 pm at 5:41 pm in reply to: Beth Isaac of Flatbush (R Yerucham Leshinsky) Closed? #1656940anonymous JewParticipantSince most shuls do not pay property taxes or ( in NYC other fees like water usage ) there are restrictions on how money can be distributed. For example, if a shul wantec to provide for a pension for its rav, in NY, permission would need to be obtained ( I think either from NY Sec of State or a judge )
anonymous JewParticipantJoseph has too much time on his hands

December 18, 2018 10:10 am at 10:10 am in reply to: Let’s Register Our Children To Public School #1646511anonymous JewParticipantPeople advocating moving to public schools have overlooked an enormous factor. Let’s say everyone does move to public schools. What happens then to the rebbes and teachers? With no students, they are out of a job. Since parents most likely won’t continue to pay tuition, how will the yeshivas other staff be paid? Yeshiva mortgages?Utilities?
The law of unintended consequences.December 17, 2018 8:44 am at 8:44 am in reply to: Let’s Register Our Children To Public School #1645825anonymous JewParticipantWolf, your demographics are off. You forgot about Lo mb g Island ( 2.8 million ) and Westchester ( 980,000) which is considered economically downstate, not upstate. So, downstate is the majority
anonymous JewParticipantCT, please stay in your compound and dwell on JFK and LBJ ( 2 serial adulterers) who got us into Viet Nam, FDR ( who kept Jews out of US and refused to bomb rail lines to Auschwitz, blindly trusted Stalin , Jimmy Carter, and that other serial adulterer, Bill Clinton , not to mention Hillary , who permitted it.
anonymous JewParticipantThere appears to be alot of misunderstandings, and misinformation regarding billing and copays.
COPAYS- copays are not paid to the insurance company. When a provider submits a claim, the ins and the patient share a “coresponsibility” for payment to the provider. The insurer provides the bulk , while the patient owes the copay. All copays, including Medicare must be billed and can, under certain circumstances , be written off, including Medicare. This is typically done if a financial review indicates the patient cannot afford to pay and qualifies for a reduced payment. Providers have maintain a charity care policy and inform the patient of its existence.
Billing insurance companies for routine care is not that difficult , but billing for ambulances is whole different world and presents numerous challenges. The patient is often in no condition to provide demographic and ins info. In addition, Federal law (EMTALA) prohibits the gathering of information until the patient has been triaged and stabilized , by which time the ambulance is possibly gone . NYC hospitals receive monthly lists from the FDNY requesting ins and demographics for patients transported there. How would Hatzolla do it?
Billing would require the purchase of electronic systems for registration, billing , and tracking income, receivables and cash. It would also have to hire fulltime staff to gather information, verify it, post it and follow up on the billing . Even if the billing and collection were farmed out to a service, they would have to be paid. Staff would also be needed to review applications for charity care.
What I’m saying is that billing requires capital investment and hiring of salaried staff members -
