Well, it might be the same reason bp/chassidish yeshivas have such low tuition. They probably pay ( when they do pay ) very low salaries.

The first minyan is geared to the train schedule and is faster. The second minyan starts over an hour later and is not geared to the schedule. We’ve had retirees complain the first minyan is too fast. They were told adapt or go to the second minyan.CTL, and you ignored how badly run Conn is. CTL, Connecticut is so well run. It’s big cities are virtually bankrupt , and people and businesses are leaving in droves. Last year, only NJ and Illinois exceeded Conn in tje % of outbound population moves. MetroNorth continues to use ancient commuter cars on its New Haven branch because Conn can’t afford to pay for new ones. Wealthy residents had been providing a third of tax revenues and they are now leaving. Nearly half of the state budget goes to public union salaries, benefits and pensions.
Smerel, what a great idea! Charge an impact fee for cutting an illegal driveway. Charge a fee to the huge halls in Williamsburg and Flatbush for inconvenience to the neighborhood because of the increased noise and traffic from the cars ( plus filling parking spaces with guest’s cars ).

In NY, the top 1% already pays 46% of the ststes incone tax, which is why more wealthy people are moving out. Joseph, and what if no variance is required? If zoning allows an apartment building , you don’t need a variance for luxury housing. Laws requiring rent control actually discourage affordable housing.
Actually, none of them are towns. They are all part of the Town of Hempstead ( the oldest town in the U.S
, founded in 1644 ). Two are villages ( Lawrence and Inwood ) two ( Woodmere and Cedarhurst ) are hamlets the fifth, Hewlett, is a combination of villages and hamlets. The difference comes down between incorporated with its own elected officials ( villages ) or being unincorporated areas ( hamlets ) governed directly by the Town of Hempstead. There was a reason for the use of West Lawrence as an address. When the first pioneers moved to Far Rockaway in the 1970s and 1980s, Far Rockaway had become a crime infested slum. 6 bedroom homes on Reids Lane were on the market for $18,000 and people couldn’t get mortgages for them ( my sister tried but the banks had redlined the area ). If you want top quality rebbis and pay them a good living wage, well, that costs money. That’s nothing new.

Joseph, how big is the Neblitz hashgacha? How many mashgichim do they employ? Where is the Twizzler plant located? Again, this is a vegan product so what is Bloom afraid of that they can afford full time mashgichim? You mentioned possible using utensils that might have come into contact with meat,milk or trief. In other words, you don’t trust the OU. When a utensil needs replacement, what does Bloom do to assure kashrus?

2scents, you make it sound so simple. My hospital alone would receive up to 800 requests a month from the FDNYalone, looking for insurance info. We complied only because of an agreement negotiated by the Greater NY Hosp Assoc. We ignored requests from other ambulance companies ( private or volunteer).
If , as according to you most arrivals didn’t need, immediate treatment, they didn’t need an ambulance.Since most shuls do not pay property taxes or ( in NYC other fees like water usage ) there are restrictions on how money can be distributed. For example, if a shul wantec to provide for a pension for its rav, in NY, permission would need to be obtained ( I think either from NY Sec of State or a judge )

Why are people implying the kosher food isn’t kosher by putting kosher in quotation marks?
People advocating moving to public schools have overlooked an enormous factor. Let’s say everyone does move to public schools. What happens then to the rebbes and teachers? With no students, they are out of a job. Since parents most likely won’t continue to pay tuition, how will the yeshivas other staff be paid? Yeshiva mortgages?Utilities?

There appears to be alot of misunderstandings, and misinformation regarding billing and copays.
COPAYS- copays are not paid to the insurance company. When a provider submits a claim, the ins and the patient share a “coresponsibility” for payment to the provider. The insurer provides the bulk , while the patient owes the copay. All copays, including Medicare must be billed and can, under certain circumstances , be written off, including Medicare. This is typically done if a financial review indicates the patient cannot afford to pay and qualifies for a reduced payment. Providers have maintain a charity care policy and inform the patient of its existence.
Billing insurance companies for routine care is not that difficult , but billing for ambulances is whole different world and presents numerous challenges. The patient is often in no condition to provide demographic and ins info. In addition, Federal law (EMTALA) prohibits the gathering of information until the patient has been triaged and stabilized , by which time the ambulance is possibly gone . NYC hospitals receive monthly lists from the FDNY requesting ins and demographics for patients transported there. How would Hatzolla do it?
Billing would require the purchase of electronic systems for registration, billing , and tracking income, receivables and cash. It would also have to hire fulltime staff to gather information, verify it, post it and follow up on the billing . Even if the billing and collection were farmed out to a service, they would have to be paid. Staff would also be needed to review applications for charity care.
What I’m saying is that billing requires capital investment and hiring of salaried staff membersNeville, i mentioned elsewhere that there is a far greater danger to ALL yeshivas on the horizon. Now that the NY State Senate is under Democratic control, it looks like the Legislature is going to actually pass a bill establishing a 12 month filing period wherein the statute of limitations on filing molestation lawsuits will be waived. The newspaper article I read focused on the financial impact on the Catholic church but yeshivas will be hard hit as well ( just from the legal bills alone, let alone payouts).
