Never mind my previous post.
I just reread Square Roots comment and I see I missed the part where he wrote that it’s in the constitution that the President is responsible to secure the border.December 18, 2024 12:54 pm at 12:54 pm in reply to: ILLEGAL ALIENS versus Undocumented Immigrants #2342518amomParticipant@Ex-CTLawyer- if I’m not mistaken the power of the president via executive actions seems to grow by president.
I’m sure this is not what the founding fathers had in mind, but it is what it is.I don’t think you can argue that policies of Biden resulted in the migrant crisis due to him stopping Remain in Mexico.
Just look at the difference in the number of illegal immigrants during his term and Trumps.December 5, 2024 2:04 am at 2:04 am in reply to: The Net Results of the NASI Project and the Shidduch Age Gap Scare #2338221amomParticipantNeville- It really depends which public school you’re talking about.
I’ve taught in public schools, there is a HUGE difference between different neighborhoods and schools.
Actually, the same goes for Frum schools. Some are on much a higher level than others.
In my case, I found the level of education higher in the frum schools than in the public schools.
Again, this varies as my public school students were largely from Non English speaking, immigrant homes, while that was not the case for my other students. On the Shidduch Crisis, the age gap seems to make sense to me, but I didn’t spend that much time thinking about it.
On the other hand, Mazal77 definitely has a point. Most girls only want a certain type of boy. We also see that working boys have a very hard time with Shidduchim.
The mostly likely reason for the shidduch crisis (other than that Hashem runs the world, which is the ultimate answer) is that it’s a combination of factors. Focusing on one factor (the age gap) may help but doesn’t solve the issue completely.amomParticipantAnd on an ironic note- it is illegal to ask when hiring is she/he is an illegal immigrant.
amomParticipantI think what Coffee Addict is saying is, forget about the article (the letter writer is wrong) but some (most?) of the comments were extremely uncalled for and downright mean.
I live in a typical heimish neighborhood in the tristate area. Most people I know that take the minimum cleaning help and their kids are not being raised by the cleaning ladies.
Note: a holocaust survivor I know, that has 12 children and believe me her children are not spoiled, always says- 1 thing I regret when raising children is not taking more cleaning help, I would have been a calmer, better mother”
And if anyone knows of a legal cleaning lady in my area, I am happy to pay the going rate (despite the fact that I am a middle income family with no govt programs, struggling to make ends meet) and don’t tell me to give up my cleaning help, you don’t know my life circumstances and can’t judge my needs.amomParticipantUniversal Law- everything depends on one owns self esteem.
In every community around the world you will find men, women etc. that think they are less than and that it’s an issue with their community.
It’s an issue with their self esteemamomParticipantAs an accountant I can tell you this- if you open your own business the sky is the limit but so are the risks.
An accountant’s income starts at 75k and caps at around 150k. (where I live)- do your research in your community and decide if you can live on that.
The income greatly increases were you to use your accounting knowledge and experience in a specific field to become a CFO. (which is currently my goal).
Note- not all accountants do public accounting/ tax returns. Every business needs an accountant and there are many career options.
Regarding personality, I don’t think all accountants need to have the same personality, in my case, I enjoy math, numbers, probably solving, working with complicated spreadsheets for hours, and explaining difficult concepts. On the other hand, I am a very social and outgoing person, not the typical “accountant” personality.
Hope this helps and good luck!amomParticipantAAQ- as a kollel wife, I find your responses sadly misinformed. There are a very small percentage of kollel men that learn more than 5 years in kollel. They either leave because they can’t sit and learn anymore (nobody wants to sit and not accomplish- it doesn’t feel good) or because there wives say ENOUGH! Most kollel husbands want to please their wives, like most husbands in the world do. They care about their families. Many of them are very successful in the business world, and some aren’t, just like the rest of the world.
The few kollel people I know that are learning long term are doing it because they and their wives want it.
When discussing kollel men in Israel one runs into a different topic where people are learning not to go to the army, which causes many problems.
Men going into chinuch is also a completely different topic than kollel men.amomParticipantAmerica has lots and lots of oil enough to be pretty much self reliant and be able to set prices.
The reason we are not is because gas companies are always afraid the dems will shut them down. It is not worth it for them to invest the huge sums when one day a dem president will say we have to go green and we can’t drill our own oil.
Instead of us drilling in the most green way possible, we are allowing the Arab countries to get rich and they don’t care about green and safety. American companies can’t lower prices because they are in a very risky business, when dems are in power. If there was a Republican in power, they would be receiving incentives to produce more (instead of the rhetoric Biden seems to love) which would cause lower prices.
Under Biden, taxes for these companies are higher, there are more regulations- and then Biden gives all his nice speeches that they are making too much profit and that they have to drill more oil. Biden loves blaming the American oil companies for their high prices, yet he is tying their hands behind their back. Even if he lowers regulations (which I believe he did) the oil companies don’t trust him not to put them right back.amomParticipantI love the way people that don’t learn in kollel have a passion of dissecting money matters of those in Kollel 🙂 They have all the proof in the world why they should stop learning and go to work.
I can’t quote much gemara- but I remember learning that a man is supposed to use every free minute to learn. If he works, he should work just enough to make the money he needs, and then he should stop working and go learn.
Let’s have a discussion on thatamomParticipantGood luck!!
I was a high school teacher, who taught and prepared students for regents for many years.
1- study as many old regents as possible
2-do the questions you know first- many times you’ll find info to help you answer the questions you don’t know.
2- try not to leave anything blank
3- don’t cheat- the 1 student that I had that cheated got a zero
Relax and take your time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!amomParticipantAAQ- You misunderstood. I was stating a fact why I feel seminary isnt/cant properly prepare girls for a kollel husband. Now that I think about it, I am more frustrated with seminary teachers who make a kollel life sound so amazing without preparing girls for reality. Too many girls “need” the “top” kollel boy when they are not capable/willing to live such a life.
N0mesorah- Are you saying that seminary gives girls expectations for what a learning boy is and then she may be disappointed? If yes, most people come into marriage with expectations, and they learn to adjust. If you said something else, please explain better. I would like to understand your point.
amomParticipantIMHO most of the time seminary can not prepare a girl for a learning boy. Chashivus hatorah has to be put into the chinuch from when one is young. I think a boy has more exceptions to this rule because he may decide to become a learner once he tastes the sweetness of Torah, while for a girl she may want a learner until she actually has to work hard to support, and has to learn to live without things that all her friends have. If one grows up with a family that values successful business (wo)men over talmidei chachamim the chances of them being/marrying a real learning boy is low no matter what their rebbeim/seminary teachers teach.
amomParticipantI know a frum women who designs clothing for a designer brand that’s sold in all major department stores.

Hi! I’ll try to address some of your points.
– I’m not sure what you are talking about here (I have a feeling most of these billboards are asking for charity) Not to say we aren’t busy with $ being that we have large families and being an orthodox jew is expensive, but I think if you would strike up some conversations with us $ wouldn’t dominate the talk.
– This is a very complicated issue, where people are divided due to differing opinions of Rabbi’s- which causes heated discussions, but all Jews are brothers and sisters so we may argue but we love one another.
– This really depends on the community. There are many different orthodox communities and the dress is extremely different. Also, what you call rags may be considered a respectable mode of dress by us.
I am not a Rabbi- I’m sure many here will disagree. This is just my simple take.
Enjoy your journey exploring religions.amomParticipantKuvult-
Yes- Kids need to learn to be friends with and respect other people regardless of their “type”
Yes- Parents should vet all houses they send their kids to (it’s easier to vet houses from people your type)
But- Parents should be super careful when sending kids to houses more modern due to outside influences, especially since kids these days are exposed to everything with no boundaries.
That doesn’t mean that they can’t play together and be friends- just it might be in my house, and not in the other kids house, under my supervision so that I can be more careful.amomParticipantUJM-bh I have an amazing marriage. I guess getting older, knowing too many people personally going through difficulties. As a kid I thought everyones marriage was great like my parents.
On the other topic- my parents do kiruv, growing up all types of people lived in our house, I made many types of friends, my parents allowed it because it was under their supervision; on the other hand because my parents were so aware of what’s out there they were even stricter with whoms houses I went to.
amomParticipantWhen I was a teenager I thought that 99% of people had really good marriages.
amomParticipantGH and Syag:
We have to differentiate between political figures and the average american. The average republican is over Trump. They appreciated his policies while he was in office but don’t think about him much. The average democrat is obsessed with Trump (don’t know why, GH help me on this)
Political figures are obsessed with Trump on both sides. Democrats want to show how bad he was compared to Biden, how much worse things would have been and how their rival is just like Trump. Republican political figures- some just try not to alienate Trumps base and some are true hard Trump fans.amomParticipantMarxist and Common- how about both as a couple.
The kollel schedule usually works well for husbands to do drop off and pick up for babysitting.
These days many offices are very flexible with hours.
I work a few hours a day, and put in another hour or two at night.
It’s easier than if both parents are working, which is so common these days.amomParticipantCommon: Many Rabbeim would love to take a vacation at home but there their homes are always open and they never get a break. For their health it’s important they get away a bit to recoup. I’m telling you they don’t go on vacations to chill. You don’t want to have the responsibilities they have or hear the stories they hear.
My husband will never forget his trip up north every year as a boy. They left Yerushalayim in the morning, davened in Tzfas and Meron all day, and went back to Yerushalayim at night. That was their bein hazmanim summer trip.
amomParticipantCommon- Happiness is a state of mind. I could choose to be happy that way but I’m happier this way.
Avira- that’s because they want a husband that goes on vacations, donates huge sums etc., they don’t really want a learning husband and the life that brings. Because, one can’t compare and be jealous of something they don’t want.
amomParticipantI think an educated college graduate can successfully marry a full time learning boy as long as she TRULY respects him and wants that, otherwise it’s a recipe for disaster. Especially, considering that she will be working with educated men all the time.
My husband is a full time learner. He learns 14 hours a day while I’m studying accounting. This is what I want and respect. I wouldn’t want a husband that’s a Dr or lawyer. So it works. I work under the CFO at work and I’m glad that my husband is using his brains for Torah and not thinking about business and money all day.amomParticipantOur Torah gives us a guide for life.
IMHO It’s healthy to get drunk once or twice a year.
I was once discussing it with a nonfrum person.
Unfortunately, in his world getting drunk is a regular occasion.
He was surprised (in a good way) that our Torah gives us once or twice (purim and simchas torah) a year to get drunk- and it’s healthy.
Growing up my brothers always got drunk on purim. Now my husband gets drunk.
I get to see him in a different light.
I’m not talking about underage teens though. I wouldn’t give my opinion on that.amomParticipantI don’t know if Rabbi Bald is a Chief Rabbi of Ukraine. He is definitely the Rabbi of Lviv and I know as a fact that he lives there.
amomParticipantLike KGN, I’m not pro Russia nor pro Ukraine. I feel bad for the Ukrainians and don’t want anyone to suffer. I daven that all yidden stay safe. I feel bad for innocent Russians too (obviously not as much as I feel bad for the Ukrainians). The sanctions will affect them.
The question here is to what extent do we have to suffer (with higher gas prices etc.) to support the Ukrainians.amomParticipantDr. Pepper just one point,
Crimes are waaaaayyyy up where I am from, and yes guns are illegal.
Criminals don’t have to worry about the innocent victims having a gun and they don’t have to worry about going to prison because of bail reform that democrats put into place and don’t want to get rid of.
Wonderful.
Jackk what do you think of that?amomParticipantDr. Pepper.
You couldn’t have said it better.
Finally, a discussion on policies and not just bashing specific individuals.
It’s not pro-Trump anti-Trump pro-Biden anti-Biden. It’s the actions and the policies. And what makes a stronger and better America. And of course taking a look which party best aligns with our values. There are many republicans that truly have no idea what the party stands for and these people can’t have an actual discussion with someone like jackk. They just yell Brandon.
They will all do well to have a good discussion to get a bit more educated with dr. pepper.amomParticipantRabbi Bald is also legit. The Stoliner Rebbe sent him years ago. I know them personally (we’re related) They live in Lviv which is I believe 8 hours from Kiev and much closer to the border.
amomParticipantThanks ujm,
I didn’t donate before because of all the emails but once you wrote in Rabbi Bleich shlita I donated.amomParticipant100% agreed.
What should we do that the Democrats are priding themselves on a strong NATO when that was one of the big reasons Putin invaded Ukraine IMHOamomParticipantReb E.
I will respectfully disagree.
Among the many things part of the Republican platform:
– Anti- abortion
– Less regulation on businesses
– stronger border
– against bail reform/ for stronger policing
– for a stronger military
etc.
You may disagree with any one of these or all of these (which I can’t believe because you are for sure anti abortion but whatever).Trump was never my first choice. I despise his morals, his personality and I honestly think he’s a sick narcissist. But as a Republican conservative I will agree that he enacted a lot of great policies.
Not every Republican is good. There are anti semites on both sides and YWN should call them all out.
I honestly think there are many more anti semites on the left which is why they receive more coverage.
Also, when looking who’s anti semitic one has to look at their action and policies together with their words as a package.Yes, the squad gets called out more often because look at their words, their actions and the policies they support.
Trump may have said some anti-semitic remarks but look at his actions (he was good for Israel, freed Rebashkin and some other frum Jews etc.) and policies.
amomParticipantI was told by a serious Breslover that learns R’ Nachman’s seforim that R’ Nachman did not want to be buried in Israel.
amomParticipantThe Jews in Uman prepared busses and drivers just in case but as soon as the bombing started the drivers disappeared and they had to find new drivers.
amomParticipantBiden’s loving this war. It takes everyones attention off his failures that really matter- inflation, border etc
amomParticipantRW- You know why?
Because it made a lot of enemies.
People seriously believe that if you are anti-vax you are spreading disinformation and causing the virus to continue and if you are pro-vax then you are out to kill the world and force everyone to give over their rights.
It made people believe that anyone on the other side is out to get them and hates them.
Worst invention ever vaccine- it divided and bought hate to an already divided world.
Let’s hope that as Jews we can put this aside and love each other despite views on covid, masks and vaccines.amomParticipantI agree with the indoor plumbing.
I was on the way to Mezhibiz and needed a restroom. Lo and behold there was only an outhouse.
It was DISGUSTING. UUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH.
Indoor plumbing= best invention ever!!!!
Worst invention- social media, covid vaccineamomParticipantI go bowling once or twice a year. I went like 6 months ago,
amomParticipantHm- hard one.
1) there have been many democratic presidents that supported and aided Israel.
2) this one being a double-edged sword- Government programs. Honestly, they are bad, they raise taxes and prices BUT noone in the the US doesn’t have money for food because of foodstamps. In Israel there are people that seriously can’t afford food. So, I guess democrats supporting that is good in some way.
3) I can’t think of another one. There probably are more positives, but I am a hard core conservitive so……….amomParticipantThe type of meat is important. Cheap chulent meat is meant to add taste to the chulent but the meat itself isn’t the greatest. I like to use cheek meat.
amomParticipantAAQ- I didn’t think of that.
If I were to get a not approved email I would just leave it at that.
But when your post/thread isn’t posted you just feel like you are left hanging. Like hey I added something to this topic why isn’t it up.
But to counter this, the reply can come from a donotreply email or something like that.amomParticipantChas Vashalom I would not want to get rid of the mods
amomParticipantI thought of this idea because I tried to start a topic (the one with the covid deaths)
after a day I saw my topic still wasn’t up so I was like if it isn’t approved I would like to know.
Then I tried it again and it was up so maybe I didn’t submit it properly the first time idk.And here I thought you revised it.
amomParticipantI think I didn’t explain clearly.
I meant that we should get an email when our reply or topic is rejected so we know it’s not approved so we know.
But it’s crazy for the mods to have to send out emails each time a comment isn’t approved so I was thinking of automated emails (like a filter).February 1, 2022 12:32 am at 12:32 am in reply to: Six-Day-War Major-general “There was a Siyata diShmaya” #2056515amomParticipantI am talking about the Chayalim

You wouldn’t have known they were Jewish.
So sad.amomParticipantYeah true story.
We now call that hospital a butcher storeamomParticipantI’m a conservative.
I have been a conservative for years.
I have been having political arguments (in a fun way) with people why conservative policies are better for our country and ultimately for the individual, for a long time.
However, when there isn’t a Republican candidate that I approve of, for any reason, I don’t vote.amomParticipantI like to saute an onion, sear the cheek meat, add 3/4 cup chulent/cholent mix, 1 cup barley, lots of spices, a bit of kechup, put a lot of water. Enjoy!!!
