As an accountant I can tell you this- if you open your own business the sky is the limit but so are the risks.
An accountant’s income starts at 75k and caps at around 150k. (where I live)- do your research in your community and decide if you can live on that.
The income greatly increases were you to use your accounting knowledge and experience in a specific field to become a CFO. (which is currently my goal).
Note- not all accountants do public accounting/ tax returns. Every business needs an accountant and there are many career options.
Regarding personality, I don’t think all accountants need to have the same personality, in my case, I enjoy math, numbers, probably solving, working with complicated spreadsheets for hours, and explaining difficult concepts. On the other hand, I am a very social and outgoing person, not the typical “accountant” personality.
Hope this helps and good luck!

AAQ- as a kollel wife, I find your responses sadly misinformed. There are a very small percentage of kollel men that learn more than 5 years in kollel. They either leave because they can’t sit and learn anymore (nobody wants to sit and not accomplish- it doesn’t feel good) or because there wives say ENOUGH! Most kollel husbands want to please their wives, like most husbands in the world do. They care about their families. Many of them are very successful in the business world, and some aren’t, just like the rest of the world.
The few kollel people I know that are learning long term are doing it because they and their wives want it.
When discussing kollel men in Israel one runs into a different topic where people are learning not to go to the army, which causes many problems.
Men going into chinuch is also a completely different topic than kollel men.

America has lots and lots of oil enough to be pretty much self reliant and be able to set prices.

The reason we are not is because gas companies are always afraid the dems will shut them down. It is not worth it for them to invest the huge sums when one day a dem president will say we have to go green and we can’t drill our own oil.
Instead of us drilling in the most green way possible, we are allowing the Arab countries to get rich and they don’t care about green and safety. American companies can’t lower prices because they are in a very risky business, when dems are in power. If there was a Republican in power, they would be receiving incentives to produce more (instead of the rhetoric Biden seems to love) which would cause lower prices.
Under Biden, taxes for these companies are higher, there are more regulations- and then Biden gives all his nice speeches that they are making too much profit and that they have to drill more oil. Biden loves blaming the American oil companies for their high prices, yet he is tying their hands behind their back. Even if he lowers regulations (which I believe he did) the oil companies don’t trust him not to put them right back.

I love the way people that don’t learn in kollel have a passion of dissecting money matters of those in Kollel 🙂 They have all the proof in the world why they should stop learning and go to work.
I can’t quote much gemara- but I remember learning that a man is supposed to use every free minute to learn. If he works, he should work just enough to make the money he needs, and then he should stop working and go learn.
Let’s have a discussion on that

    Good luck!!
I was a high school teacher, who taught and prepared students for regents for many years.
1- study as many old regents as possible
2-do the questions you know first- many times you’ll find info to help you answer the questions you don’t know.
2- try not to leave anything blank
3- don’t cheat- the 1 student that I had that cheated got a zero
    Relax and take your time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAQ- You misunderstood. I was stating a fact why I feel seminary isnt/cant properly prepare girls for a kollel husband. Now that I think about it, I am more frustrated with seminary teachers who make a kollel life sound so amazing without preparing girls for reality. Too many girls “need” the “top” kollel boy when they are not capable/willing to live such a life.

N0mesorah- Are you saying that seminary gives girls expectations for what a learning boy is and then she may be disappointed? If yes, most people come into marriage with expectations, and they learn to adjust. If you said something else, please explain better. I would like to understand your point.

IMHO most of the time seminary can not prepare a girl for a learning boy. Chashivus hatorah has to be put into the chinuch from when one is young. I think a boy has more exceptions to this rule because he may decide to become a learner once he tastes the sweetness of Torah, while for a girl she may want a learner until she actually has to work hard to support, and has to learn to live without things that all her friends have. If one grows up with a family that values successful business (wo)men over talmidei chachamim the chances of them being/marrying a real learning boy is low no matter what their rebbeim/seminary teachers teach.

Hi! I’ll try to address some of your points.
    – I’m not sure what you are talking about here (I have a feeling most of these billboards are asking for charity) Not to say we aren’t busy with $ being that we have large families and being an orthodox jew is expensive, but I think if you would strike up some conversations with us $ wouldn’t dominate the talk.
    – This is a very complicated issue, where people are divided due to differing opinions of Rabbi’s- which causes heated discussions, but all Jews are brothers and sisters so we may argue but we love one another.
    – This really depends on the community. There are many different orthodox communities and the dress is extremely different. Also, what you call rags may be considered a respectable mode of dress by us.
I am not a Rabbi- I’m sure many here will disagree. This is just my simple take.
    Enjoy your journey exploring religions.

    Kuvult-

Yes- Kids need to learn to be friends with and respect other people regardless of their “type”
Yes- Parents should vet all houses they send their kids to (it’s easier to vet houses from people your type)
But- Parents should be super careful when sending kids to houses more modern due to outside influences, especially since kids these days are exposed to everything with no boundaries.
That doesn’t mean that they can’t play together and be friends- just it might be in my house, and not in the other kids house, under my supervision so that I can be more careful.

UJM-bh I have an amazing marriage. I guess getting older, knowing too many people personally going through difficulties. As a kid I thought everyones marriage was great like my parents.

On the other topic- my parents do kiruv, growing up all types of people lived in our house, I made many types of friends, my parents allowed it because it was under their supervision; on the other hand because my parents were so aware of what’s out there they were even stricter with whoms houses I went to.

    GH and Syag:
We have to differentiate between political figures and the average american. The average republican is over Trump. They appreciated his policies while he was in office but don’t think about him much. The average democrat is obsessed with Trump (don’t know why, GH help me on this)
Political figures are obsessed with Trump on both sides. Democrats want to show how bad he was compared to Biden, how much worse things would have been and how their rival is just like Trump. Republican political figures- some just try not to alienate Trumps base and some are true hard Trump fans.

Marxist and Common- how about both as a couple.
The kollel schedule usually works well for husbands to do drop off and pick up for babysitting.
These days many offices are very flexible with hours.
I work a few hours a day, and put in another hour or two at night.
It’s easier than if both parents are working, which is so common these days.

Common: Many Rabbeim would love to take a vacation at home but there their homes are always open and they never get a break. For their health it’s important they get away a bit to recoup. I’m telling you they don’t go on vacations to chill. You don’t want to have the responsibilities they have or hear the stories they hear.

My husband will never forget his trip up north every year as a boy. They left Yerushalayim in the morning, davened in Tzfas and Meron all day, and went back to Yerushalayim at night. That was their bein hazmanim summer trip.

Common- Happiness is a state of mind. I could choose to be happy that way but I’m happier this way.

Avira- that’s because they want a husband that goes on vacations, donates huge sums etc., they don’t really want a learning husband and the life that brings. Because, one can’t compare and be jealous of something they don’t want.

I think an educated college graduate can successfully marry a full time learning boy as long as she TRULY respects him and wants that, otherwise it’s a recipe for disaster. Especially, considering that she will be working with educated men all the time.
My husband is a full time learner. He learns 14 hours a day while I’m studying accounting. This is what I want and respect. I wouldn’t want a husband that’s a Dr or lawyer. So it works. I work under the CFO at work and I’m glad that my husband is using his brains for Torah and not thinking about business and money all day.

Our Torah gives us a guide for life.
IMHO It’s healthy to get drunk once or twice a year.
I was once discussing it with a nonfrum person.
Unfortunately, in his world getting drunk is a regular occasion.
He was surprised (in a good way) that our Torah gives us once or twice (purim and simchas torah) a year to get drunk- and it’s healthy.
Growing up my brothers always got drunk on purim. Now my husband gets drunk.
I get to see him in a different light.
I’m not talking about underage teens though. I wouldn’t give my opinion on that.

Criminals don’t have to worry about the innocent victims having a gun and they don’t have to worry about going to prison because of bail reform that democrats put into place and don’t want to get rid of.

    Dr. Pepper.

Finally, a discussion on policies and not just bashing specific individuals.
It’s not pro-Trump anti-Trump pro-Biden anti-Biden. It’s the actions and the policies. And what makes a stronger and better America. And of course taking a look which party best aligns with our values.

There are many republicans that truly have no idea what the party stands for and these people can’t have an actual discussion with someone like jackk. They just yell Brandon.
They will all do well to have a good discussion to get a bit more educated with dr. pepper.

    Reb E.

    I will respectfully disagree.
Among the many things part of the Republican platform:
    – Anti- abortion
    – Less regulation on businesses
    – stronger border
    – against bail reform/ for stronger policing
    – for a stronger military
    etc.
You may disagree with any one of these or all of these (which I can’t believe because you are for sure anti abortion but whatever).

Trump was never my first choice. I despise his morals, his personality and I honestly think he’s a sick narcissist. But as a Republican conservative I will agree that he enacted a lot of great policies.

Not every Republican is good. There are anti semites on both sides and YWN should call them all out.
I honestly think there are many more anti semites on the left which is why they receive more coverage.
Also, when looking who’s anti semitic one has to look at their action and policies together with their words as a package.

Yes, the squad gets called out more often because look at their words, their actions and the policies they support.

Trump may have said some anti-semitic remarks but look at his actions (he was good for Israel, freed Rebashkin and some other frum Jews etc.) and policies.

    Hm- hard one.
    1) there have been many democratic presidents that supported and aided Israel.
    2) this one being a double-edged sword- Government programs. Honestly, they are bad, they raise taxes and prices BUT noone in the the US doesn’t have money for food because of foodstamps. In Israel there are people that seriously can’t afford food. So, I guess democrats supporting that is good in some way.
    3) I can’t think of another one. There probably are more positives, but I am a hard core conservitive so……….

Honestly- I was hoping Trump wouldn’t win in 2016. His disgusting personality and lies made me think that it’s not possible for him to be good for the USA. I was BH wrong. I still hate his personality but I agree with (almost) all his policies.
And for the record- cutting taxes on rich- causes them to hire more workers and increase their business. Would you like Amazon to disappear because they pay too much taxes? I know people that say “I don’t want to get a raise because then I lose my programs and pay more taxes, I land up poorer.”
That’s not how we build a rich, economically strong country. We cut taxes- allowing more people to see the fruits of their hard work, so that they grow their company, hire more workers- more people have jobs, they get rich and it’s a great cycle.
Why should someone that works hard and gets rich give 50% of their paycheck to people who chose to sit home and chill while making unemployment?
    and
akuperma- yeah, we need LEGAL immigrants. I’m still waiting for Biden to lower the amount of legal immigrants allowed in this country.
