Our President failed to realize people run for the House because they want to change things. I’m thinking that’s a major motivation for any one to run for office, be it the local school board, congress or the presidency. Frankly our President ran for office because he wanted to change things. There are hours of speeches, including his inaugural speech supporting this. Different people have different opinions on how to accomplish this. Disagreement is ok. What isn’t ok is telling elected officials to abandon the jobs they were elected to do and go back to some place else even though they are citizens, native born or naturalized. I couldn’t help but laugh, Rep. Omar has been a citizen far longer than our first lady or her parents. I suggest everyone pocket their vitriol and name calling and move forward. If you don’t like the way things are here, move to change it via the electoral process, like these house members are doing. We all have folks we elected to represent us. Let’s meet and talk to them about our mutual goals regardless of what they are. That’s been the American way. In the meantime, don’t be surprised if someone on the street, on the train, on the subway tells you to go back to where you came from simply because you dress and look differently than others.
People here are suggesting that American citizens be ‘deported’ for having opposing political views. How do you propose to legally facilitate this? I’m sincerely curious.

News releases indicated that there were to be 2000 deportation orders in 7 major cities. There is no news from ICE as to how many people were picked up and where. I’m wondering if this was just another of the presidents bluffs that came to naught. It wouldn’t be the first time.

To the mod, I read newspapers local to this tragedy and read local accounts of the hiking trip as well. Don’t you realize that most scanners are accessible online as well as transcripts of their squaks? Public access to these communications has been available online for decades. YWN is not my sole source of info. I would have to be quite biased to consider only one avenue of reportage regardless of the source or the topic.
I’m not sure what part of my comment said your information was only from YWN. What I said was that your musser was based on events that didn’t happen per some of the hatzalah guys on the scene, and the camp director. Finally folks started admitting they had been taken advantage of and left with many thousands to repay the credit card companies. I don’t use my CCs much and really don’t pay attention to points, that’s not why I have them. That being said I still cannot fathom an adult permitting someone to use their CC.
I thought this was about the CC scam whereby you permitted someone (individual or business) to use your card and they will pay you back at a profit (and you get the points). There is a newly filed lawsuit regarding this.
Neville, timothy prices are low locally, this week they’re about $180 a ton. Akuperma, you are correct, but today vast quantities of hay, grass and straw are exported to China, Japan, Korea and SE Asia as well as some parts of the Middle East. It’s a far more lucrative market than local regional sales in some areas.
Even today the cost of hay/alfalfa/timothy varies. I live in an area with lots of agriculture and hay grown for export as well as domestic use. Because of growing conditions farmers will be able to cut hay at least 3 times this season, perhaps even four. That will put more hay on the market for export but keep domestic prices at reasonable rates. Right now alfalfa is about $200 per ton, hay up to $280 per ton. Hay is a commodity and prices will also vary as to region.
I just looked at the menu for Barnea Bistro. Their chef (more than likely executive) has a name but seriously there is nothing on the menu that could compare to a Michelin listed restaurant’s creativity. And there are probably several non kosher steakhouses that have $100+ pieces of meat on the menu. Are non Jews going to eat there simply because they can wear jeans? I’m sure there are pricey non kosher places that don’t require jacket and tie.
High end Kosher restaurants have rather limited menus when compared to high end non kosher restaurants and even those on the Michelin list. And some of their menu items wouldn’t attract a high end non kosher diner, popcorn chicken, and kosher sushi are two items I can think of immediately. Who pays $16 for popcorn chicken? Tuna poke in a good sushi joint can be had for well less than $24. There are lots of non kosher steak houses where you can get a prime aged steak for far less than $50. Why would that entice a non kosher diner to go to Abigaels or Reserve Cut?
Le Raphael in Paris made the Michelin list in 2015, IRRC there is also a kosher restaurant in Tel Aviv that was hoping to get on The Michelin list, I’m unaware if they made it. The chef at Le Raphael already has two stars from other non Kosher venues. Certainly the MIchelin list isn’t a star but it’s a step on the road to getting one. Barnea Bistro in NYC was chasing a place on the Michelin list when it opened in 2018 I haven’t heard much about it since it’s opening.

I found this demand to be invasive. I’m not an atny nor do I portray one on the internets. This brings to mind the time I was attending a ticketed event and read the fine print. Basically it said by purchasing and using the ticket I gave the producers the right to photograph me. There are other aspects of this demand that leave me shaking my head, are they really going to photograph every attendee??? Where will the photos of women be published, if many of the frum publications blur out the photos of women and female children? FWIW the discussion of this event over on Imamotherdotcom indicates it was poorly attended.
Laskern, I grew up in NJ and remember the refugees from Camp Kilmer moving to our town. Most of the adults in my family were polyglots and volunteered to help teach English to those who weren’t very familiar with it.
It seems to me that stores save on labor with their self checkouts, but they don’t pass that savings along to the consumer. I’ve never used one and most of the stores I shop in don’t have them. My preference is for checkers to have living wage jobs, and in some cases (like my town) they are organized and negotiate, wages, hours, benefits and conditions.

This is Speaker Boehner after President Obama was elected, “We’re going to do everything — and I mean everything we can do — to kill it, stop it, slow it down, whatever we can.” This was merely one quote. I’m not really interested in the battle of quotes. Both parties must agree to compromise if our govt is to function. McConnel has been vocal on the subject. (A good example is two House Republicans attempting to stop much needed emergency funding to states who have suffered from natural disasters.) But I will add none of this is new. Back in the days of Speaker Gingrich a line was drawn in the sand. America learned that little would be accomplished unless one party dominates both the house and senate.

I clearly recall in the years before vaxing for MMR public health departments would quarantine those with these illnesses. The houses had quarantine signs and siblings of sick children were not permitted in public school.

I don’t understand the outrage over losing plastic bags. I gave up on them a few years before the were outlawed in my town. As to getting salmonella from non plastic bag, it’s really simple. I have cloth bags I use for meat. When I get home they go in the laundry.

Avi I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately this isn’t a situation that will be quickly turned around. Work requirements (for women and men) will help change things in the long run. In the meantime without adequate secular/vocational education may of these folks will need assistance. In cases like KY, it’s unlikely that chessed will be able to support their needs once TANF is reduced or timed out.

Joseph those republicans that are for the poor will be suggesting cuts in SNAP, cuts in TANF and a 6 child limit, cuts in HUD section 8 funding and cuts in WIC, cuts in SSDI, and limiting support for special needs individuals, cuts in medicaid for children and adults. These cuts would prove disastrous to many in the frum community who depend on these public benefits for survival.

Growing up, when my father wore a white shirt it meant it was Shabbos or he was going to sit shiva.
I grew up with guns, both handguns and long guns. I had a carry permit for many years when I need it and spent many hours and $ on the range to sharpen my skills. It would take a rather skilled combat shooter to step up in an active shooting situation and take out the criminal without wounding innocents. When one trains for a carry permit you learn not to shoot unless you have a clear shot. For a civilian in a situation with elevated adrenaline levels this may be impossible. Defensive shooting comes with other drawbacks. How does LE accurately determine who the good guy with a guy is in a matter of a split second. Combat veterans may have these skills. Non combat veterans may not. Headlines show us the number of LE who react too quickly and erroneously when it comes to shooting civilians.
FWIW I no longer need to have a carry permit and keep a classic Rossi .22 single shot long barrel for target shooting.
