    I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never made potato kugel, but I’ve tested kugel from every takeout place in Brooklyn, I feel experienced and objective enough to judge.

    One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was when Jax told me to put potato kugel in the chulent.

    ahhhh, a mysterious person emailed the link to me. if you want to know the answer to the question in that thread, just turn to Jothar. He has very good advice indeed. and that my friends is why I can never come back for a chulent and coffee/bourbon/fermented plum juice party

    Hi Yossi! I don’t know if I can come back… I’ve honestly quit drinking coffee since Yom Kippur (for realz), and I think this place would make me really thirsty

    Joseph, I can’t believe you remember my baby’s birthday! Funny, because her birthday party got postponed because of the rain 🙁 and that got me thinking deep thoughts.

    And yes, it’s funny to read between the lines on this thread 🙂

    Hey kids! So I was having a deep thought today, and I feel like sharing it with you 🙂

    If rain is a source of beracha, why does it have to be given in such an uncomfortable way?

    2 possible answers I totally made up:

    – if it would be given to us without any discomfort at all, would we ever deserve it?! this way, even if we’re not too great, Hashem might still decide to bless us with it

    – to teach us that even when things don’t feel too great, they’re really blessings in disuise

    So… anyone know the real answer?
