    BY94- I left out a part:

“Yoh, ich bin an alter – Un s’tit mir vei di beiner,

Un Chotsh di burd iz lang un grois, ich hob a sach gezen ,

Gib aher a bissel bronfin, Vel ich zugen gitte eitzes

Veil ich zay in deine pleitzes , Vos iz bei dir geshen. ….

It’s a take on Kenny Roger’s The Gambler, where an old rabbi is giving advice on life instead of a gambler on a ride upstate. The younger person’s neshama lit up from the rabbi’s words & drew strength from them.

    THE RABBI

    On a warm summer’s evening

    On a ride to Monticello

I sat next to a rabbi

We were both too tired to sleep

    So we took turns staring

Out the window to the darkness

    Till boredom overtook us

    And he began to speak

    He said,

“Yoh, ich bin an alter – Un s’tit mir vei di beiner,

Un Chotsh di burd iz lang un grois, ich hob a sach gezen ,

Gib aher a bissel bronfin, Vel ich zugen gitte eitzes

Veil ich zay in deine pleitzes , Vos iz bei dir geshen. ….

“So I handed him my bottle

And he drank down my last swallow

    Then he mooched a cigarette

And asked me for a light

And the night got deathly quiet

And his face lost all expression..

    He said,

“Ich gei dir yetzt zugin Dem yisod fun yidishkeit.

“M’darf vissen ven tsu koifen, Vissen ven tsu loifen ,

Vissen ven tsu dreien git, Un ven tsu handlen fein,

Besser red nisht vus m’darf nisht, Un gei nisht vi e m’tur nisht ,

Yo, s’iz git tsi furen, besser iz tsi bleiben in der heim.

“Yeder Chochem veist , Az a yid miz zein b’simcha ,

Danken borey oilam, Far alles vos men hut .

Inn halt di torah teier ; Veil dortin brent a feier!

Un gib a sach tzedukeh , Veil parnuseh kimt fin Got.

    “And when he finished speaking

He turned back to the window

    Said Borey Nefoshos ,

And faded off to sleep .

    And somewhere in the darkness,

    My soul, it started burning,

For in his final words ,

I found A strength that I could keep.

M’darf vissn ven tsu koifen – Vissn ven tsu loifen,

Vissn ven tsu dreien git , Un ven tsu handlen fein .

Besser red nisht vus m’darf nisht – Un gei nisht vie m’tur nisht,

Yo, s’iz git tsi furen, besser iz tsi bleibin in der heim.

I’m going to tell you the foundation of Yiddishkeit

One needs to know when to buy, know when to laugh…

Better not to speak what one shouldn’t, and not go where one shouldn’t

Each wise man knows, that a Jew must be happy

Thank the Creator of the world, for everything that people have

And hole the Torah dearly, for there burns a fire!

And give a lot of charity, since livelihood comes from G-d

    Interesting caveat:

I had spoken about this a week ago when I was a Shabbos guest by an Artscroll translator.

He said that if the Koreans used the English version to translate to their native tongue, then Artscroll should get royalties!

Labeling people is not helpful. And you don’t know that they don’t care. There may be learning disabilities involved or perhaps typists rushing on the library computer limit of 20 minutes, etc.

She may have borderline personality disorder.

Or perhaps she is in a controlling marriage & he is encouraging her to be isolated from her former sources of support.

There are many possibilities what is going on with her.

IMHO, I think it might be best to write her a letter that u will always consider her a friend. You may also wish to explain the misunderstandings in a non-judgmental manner.

As the posters above stated, it could be low blood sugar; reduce the white stuff from your diet (sugar, white flour, white rice, potato, etc.) & replace it with healthier alternatives (whole wheat, brown rice, sweet potato, etc.).

And as noted above, if it persists c”v, call your doctor.

    To answer your questions!

    – U will definitely know when it’s kicking. If u need to ask, then it’s not kicking!!

    – Some people have the minhag not to prepare in advance vis-a-vis childcare until after the birth. Others do.

Btw, I would suggest cooking & freezing food for R”H and for a few days if u r going to be home after the blessed event.

Make sure to take your prenatal vitamins & eat healthier!

It’s possible you have a food sensitivity so something you ate, even if it is healthy food. A good alternative practitioner should be able to identify the offending food(s) for you.

Health, that’s a real tough one. I can see you are very intelligent, so I’m sure you know that you need to make sure that the experience doesn’t turn into PTSD. Numbness is a great coping skill for a kid at the time of such extreme violence that unfortunately you had to witness, but it doesn’t serve people well as adults. One cannot feel much pleasure either when numb. Just as it’s not unusual for people who have neuropathy in their extremities to have the numbed area pierced w/ needles, etc., by doctors during testing…so too the numb person will unconsciously stick “needles” in situations to cause hurt so he/she could feel…

I had an experience as a young kid where I saw 2 neighbors in front of my house in such a fight over a parking spot (I use the word “adults” loosely)that one of them died on the spot (no pun intended). I remember how that was so difficult to see, but yours is way more violent.

    We feel for you.

“There are some brand new posters around who are too wise in the ways of the cr and know too much for a newie eg how to check the history of other posters, (how to post in another poster’s name???), how to write in bold and italics, and by refering to posters from long before their time etc etc”

    Miriam had a diminutive ewe,

    Diminutive ewe,diminutive ewe,

    Miriam had a diminutive ewe,

Its wool was blanched as snow

And all places that Miriam traversed,

    Miriam traversed, Miriam traversed,

    All places that Miriam traversed

The ewe was sure to go

It stalked her to cheder one day

Cheder one day, cheder one day

It stalked her to cheder one day

    Which was against the rules.

It made the children giggle and play,

Giggle and play, giggle and play,

It made the children giggle and play

To see a ewe at cheder

And so the morah turned it out,

Turned it out, turned it out,

And so the morah turned it out,

    But still it lingered near

    And waited patiently about,

    Patiently about, patiently about,

    And waited patiently about

    Till Miriam did appear

“Why does the ewe love Miriam so?”

Love Miriam so? Love Miriam so?

“Why does the ewe love Miriam so?”

    The eager children cry

“Why, Miriam loves the ewe, you know.”

Loves the ewe, you know, loves the ewe, you know

“Why, Miriam loves the ewe, you know.”

    The morah did reply

Oomis, thanks for your post. I felt so strongly about this topic, that I actually signed up for the CR! I give you a lot of credit for doing what is best for your guest & not what is easiest!

An endoscopy is a definitive method of diagnosis. Just be aware that there are people w/ negative results in blood tests & endoscopies who felt better on the diet. (People who have a gluten sensitivity rather than allergy or celiac sprue.)

Except for the matza, the diet does not need to be more expensive. It’s actually quite simple once one gets used to it!

Math expands your ability to think logically.

It’s a great feeling when you understand why the theorems make sense rather than just memorizing them, e.g. I’ve found that students who didn’t enjoy math did much better when learning why it makes sense logically solving it a certain way rather than memorizing.

Math just follows a consistent pattern with no “yotzim min haklal,” just with plugging in different numbers. That makes it easier!

Math is also very objective, unlike English: an essay submitted to be graded is so subjective depending upon who is doing the grading!

    Hope this helps!
