But not Charles & Camilla
am yisrael chaiParticipant2cool, I can’t speak about anxiety, but I can say that in generally, labeling oneself is in general very damaging.
One should never call oneself stupid, ugly, or mentally ill. Even thinking it, i.e., self-talk.
Especially since you say that this makes you “freak out.”
Can you try to focus on your wonderful qualities that I’m sure Hashem gave you? In fact, I’d love to hear all about them, & I’m sure I’m not the only one.
am yisrael chaiParticipantSo, again, Diana should be executed while Charles gets off free…while Hewitt should be punished…is there anyone else here having a problem with this?
am yisrael chaiParticipantam yisrael chaiParticipantRabbenu Gershom apparently had difficulty with the original prism, too…
am yisrael chaiParticipantThis topic has been addressed in one of the other frontpage royal wedding threads…

thank you for pointing that out. why don’t you put a link, and then I’ll close this thread
am yisrael chaiParticipantI assume you are speaking of the American flag…
Let me guess: you are from NY, since you speak as if there’s only 1 existing flag!
am yisrael chaiParticipantI wonder why you seem resistant to getting help yourself.
am yisrael chaiParticipantI don’t think the British monarchy follows halacha.
am yisrael chaiParticipant13 is a prime number
13 is 1/2 of Y-K-V-K
13 is AHAVA in gmatria (sorry, no Hebrew on this keyboard!)
13 are the siblings of the 12 tribes and Dena
am yisrael chaiParticipantThat does not respond to the point being made.
am yisrael chaiParticipantNow I understand better “shelo asani isha”: Diana should be executed and Charles is off free…
hence the title of this thread “Sampling Bias”

That technique has been around for a long time, and it’s not “a mental thing.” Blood rushes to your head when in the down position, and this helps with lightheadedness & nausea. but I’ve never heard that this works for nervousness.

Now that you’ve explained Deleted, what is the CR’s protocol for showing Edited and Rejected comments? Do the posters receive notice of such an event or do they just have to figure it out themselves?
April 28, 2011 8:08 pm at 8:08 pm in reply to: Today 4 adar is Rav Avrohom Blumenkrantz`s Yahrtzeit Any good stories #762075am yisrael chaiParticipantHe came to class and immediately apologized once for having a stained jacket. It seems that he was holding his baby and didn’t notice that the baby had spit up on him till he got closer to work.
So that means he was busy in his suit jacket helping his wife!
April 28, 2011 8:05 pm at 8:05 pm in reply to: Today 4 adar is Rav Avrohom Blumenkrantz`s Yahrtzeit Any good stories #762074am yisrael chaiParticipantHe was teaching us how one should have eat favorite foods on the second Shabat seuda. So of course, we all asked what was his favorite food. He told us about this sweet Yerushalayim kugel. We were curious and yes, he gave us the recipe! He said that he did not want to be matriach his wife to prepare it as she had so many thing to do, so he would make it every erev Shabbos!
am yisrael chaiParticipantBinah, u r welcome.
Many practitioners advise people with auto-i.d. to avoid certain foods. People with lupus (also an autoimmune disorder, as u’ve correctly pointed out) avoid eating alfalfa, among other things.
People with Hoshimoto’s disease avoid gluten, etc.
Experiment with different foods and see if you notice a difference. I know someone who had something similar to what you describe, and for her wheat was the culprit. For you it may be something else. Just keep testing till you figure it out.
Hatzlacha!
April 28, 2011 7:48 pm at 7:48 pm in reply to: Yom Hashoah…why do charaidim/right wing orthodox not "celebrate"? #762614am yisrael chaiParticipantThe feeling is that tisha b’Av includes all tragedies, including the shoah.
In fact, there’s a piyut that my shul says in the morning written by a rebbe referring to the shoah along with all the older ones.
Some feel that we would then have to have a day set aside for all tragedies and not just pick the shoah: a day remembering tach v’tat, a day for the Spanish Inquisition, etc.
am yisrael chaiParticipantSorry, it is assur when there’s hatred.
am yisrael chaiParticipantAbsolutely!
There’s even a medical condition called SAD (seasonal affect disorder) which affects people in winter due to the decreased sunlight.
am yisrael chaiParticipantMII, matza doesn’t even only have to be made from wheat on Pesach. There are matzos from spelt and oat commonly found in stores, but more expensive.
The hand shmura oat matzo was $8 for a small matzo, never mind a lb., so don’t feel too badly!
am yisrael chaiParticipant“You seem so tired…it’s ok with me if you need to get some rest now, I totally understand”
I once went out with a guy who came on the date straight from shlugging kaparos, and lots of fowl at that (he has several kids)…it was so foul..now how would one get gracefully out of that situation?
am yisrael chaiParticipantBinah, an autoimmune disorder is (in a nutshell)when your body attacks itself. Think of an allergy, diabetes, etc. Many times one can remove the offending food for relief, but it’s not always food related.
am yisrael chaiParticipantadorable, that’s exactly what this song is!

am yisrael chaiParticipant-have the kids prepare a play. BTW, it’s a good idea to have them do this each Shabbos on the Parsha, Perek, etc. You can also have them help shape the challa into a special shape having to do with the Parsha, etc.
-have the kids prepare questions about the seder & let them try to stump the adults
am yisrael chaiParticipantAvraham was 99 when Hashem changed his name and A had milah & was told of a son
9.5 shvatim lived in E”Y upon entering
the 9 times table usually adds up to 9: 18 (1+8), 27 (2+7), 36, etc.

Avraham was granted Yitzchak after 9 decades
Kislev (Chanuka) is the 9th month
am yisrael chaiParticipantThere’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a tune in your head! Ivdu es Hashem b’simcha! Even in Av, we are mamatim b’simcha, we lessen the simcha, but there is still simcha!
am yisrael chaiParticipantSo only at the sdarim one needs pas naki not to change the mitzva? How does this explain that we “change the mitzva” at all other times when we dip in salt?
Can someone please clarify?
am yisrael chaiParticipant157,
Perhaps I was not clear. The correlation I was attempting to make regarding the ambulance was YOUR REACTION: would it be “I REALLY DON’T CARE” or would it be “I can’t help.”
Sometimes people just need to be heard along with some empathy, and that’s all the help they want. They are not asking you to fix the situation.
am yisrael chaiParticipantA warm welcome to Little Sally Saucer, another newbie.
Hope u enjoy your stay in the CR.
am yisrael chaiParticipantListening is not always a loophole…some poskim allow it for those who are ill physically or depressed, who in all likelihood would trade anything not to be in that position….
am yisrael chaiParticipantWe had 17 subjects one semester in high school…a classmate had absolutely had it with such a rigorous schedule: stuffed an alarm clock in a locker in the classroom, it started ringing almost exactly as the bell denoting the end of the period, and we all filed out. Approximately 25 minutes early.
am yisrael chaiParticipantNo problem!

am yisrael chaiParticipant157,
-1. There’s a HUGE difference between “I really don’t care” and “I can’t help these women who settled.” I’m wondering how one can so easily interchange the two.
(Have you ever asked Hashem to help when seeing a Hatzala ambulance racing by with wailing sirens? Or is it “I really don’t care.”)
-2. Once again there is the refrain of “..these women who settled” as if this issue has not been addressed. So I’ll repeat:
“…the “gentleman” in question was unlikely to behave in such a manner during dating. No doubt he was probably charming. SO the lady chose him as he presented himself, not as he actually was…so no, she didn’t get what she wanted. NO ONE wants that, no matter how desperate you seem to think a woman would be…”
The woman did NOT settle. As one typically gets to know a partner more fully only after marriage, that is when she realizes she got more than she bargained for. BTW, this scenario can happen the other way around, too.
-3. The blame for abusive treatment of a spouse lies squarely on the one doing the mistreatment. It’s as simple as that. Such poor behavior can rarely be stopped unless there’s serious intervention. So tell your friends they can stop blaming themselves.
-4. As you know, one cannot get married under the assumption that the partner will change. Assume the partner will not.
am yisrael chaiParticipant157,
“They’re just testing your middos!” was a lighthearted way of telling the OP that her patience was being tested, as she herself so clearly stated…(ZK, back me up here!).
I’m curious if you reread this thread, if your response would be any different.
