I agree, go for it! how much more could valet parking be? [$500 @ Ateres Chynka.] for the price per couple you’re getting, it’s still kadai.
my husband never does valet parking; he finds a spot himself.
always hereParticipantok. thanks. I always considered it a mitzvah, too.
moving things along:
what does the class think of taking food home from Chinese auctions? I’ve seen women bring plastic bags along with them & go along the buffets.. shoveling food into their purses, etc.
and is it declasse to ask to have your entire portion of the main dish of the wedding meal wrapped up to take home,if you’re stuffed from the shmorg & other courses?
always hereParticipantJan. 2010: Ateres Chynka
June 2010: Holiday Inn, Suffern (The Holidome)- kallah’s side chose.
Jan. 2003- Ateres Shlomo – now gone
July 2003- The Empress (formerly Armon Terrace)- now gone
always hereParticipanthaha! I would almost think I’m that savta, except that I’m ‘Bobbe’ & mine are 6.5, 5, & 3 ka’h.
g’luck telling them… I don’t think u can just sneak away… & g’luck to Savta.. she’s probably younger than I am, but I’d do it.
I babysat my grandchildren for the past 6.5 yrs: my daughter’s a teacher & my s-i-l’s in kollel.
I’d do it, of course, but it wouldn’t be so easy. it would be a little easier cuz the boys’ yeshiva is just across the street from my house.
at those ages they don’t have much concept of time, so if you tell them you’re going away for a few days, they’ll probably just ask if you’ll be home soon.
always hereParticipantchazak613–
gr8! go down & book ’em!
we wanted that hall, but our machatunum (groom’s side), who wanted Ohlei Torah, said it was too small, & sort of railroaded us into Ateres Chynka. we ended up inviting EVERYONE we know/knew for the whole affair!
& then, surprise! we made another wedding (our son’s) 6 months later.. & were still in major shock over what we had spent for our daughter’s wedding.
B’H, we have 2 very happy couples!!.. in addition to the 2 happy couples we married off 6 months apart 8 yrs ago!! 🙂
always hereParticipantRAZAG is very nice. do they hold by the Crown Hts. rule of the chosson not being able to sit with the kallah?
always hereParticipantagree w/ above.
Ateres Chynka- just know it’s $20,000. minimum for 500 guests.we made a wedding there a year ago.
Tiferes Mordechai- yes, newer, a little smaller, very nice, prob. cheaper. I’ve been to 2-3 chasanas there.
Eden Palace- very nice. I saw advertised $99 per couple pretty much all inclusive, I believe: food, music, photography, flowers? we couldn’t even consider it because my niece got married there but was tragically niftar w/ her husband 2 years later, :(( … leaving a 4 month old son who survived w/o a scratch, B’H.
El Caribe- very nice place, but I believe it’s a non-Jewish owner, if that makes a difference.
always hereParticipantthere are different halls for different types; min/max # of guests; budget…
Ateres Chynka, Manhattan Beach Jewish Center, Eden Palace, El Caribe, Tiferes Mordechai, etc..
can you tell some of your wishlists?
always hereParticipantthere are many, B’H .. how many guests?
always hereParticipanthaha, popa! that was fast, lol!! as I said: “it’s decided Rosh Hashana, sealed on Hoshana Rabbah.” no tricks, just one ticket per prize that I would want. I’ve been one ticket of 3 & lost.. 1 tkt in NCSY (thousands?) & won. B’H! 🙂
always hereParticipantyes, I’m the same person IRL.
based on my first posting in the CR, if someone knows me IRL, they’d know who I am.
also– I revealed more in another post that would seal the deal.

always hereParticipantbygirl93– I think ur choices r awesome! my girls had one skirt option,a jumper, 2 colored blouses, one white blouse for Rosh Chodesh & special events/assemblies, a vest, & a sweater. ur options r gr8! 😉
always hereParticipantI definitely agree w/ uniforms.. both my daughters had, but certainly not as wide a choice as bygirl93.

not Yated or Jewish Press either, that I know.
always hereParticipantwe’re using a Jewish company. they made an error & Verizon shut off our phone & the next day, our internet. the phone was turned back on the next day; the internet took TWO FULL WEEKS to be restored!!! my husband said Verizon was giving us a hard time because we weren’t dealing directly with them. he said they used to do that with IDT in the past, too (he was associated with IDT).
always hereParticipantestherhamalka– it is the ‘Torah Times’ you’re talking about.. not every issue, maybe every other one?

January 13, 2011 10:37 pm at 10:37 pm in reply to: What to do with leftover Challah & bread?? #728077always hereParticipantI’m still waiting for a (halachic) answer with you….
always hereParticipantthinking & thinking– I hear you & await a good answer, too!! I rarely make challah kugel, @ the most, & rarely my husband makes french toast. We have loads of leftover challah that sits in the dining room,(sorta piling up) & a couple of times I respectfully double wrapped it & threw it out, but felt guilty cuz I didn’t know if I was doing the right thing :/
always hereParticipantSender Av– are you referring to ‘rhetorical question’?? I was surprised that that new thread went up, so quickly after yours, & so similar. IMHO
always hereParticipantlol, Sender Av… but that’s what comes naturally outta my mouth.
always hereParticipantto non-Jews I say ‘Thank G-D’; to Jews I say literally “B’H”, in which case I often get a look & havta explain myself that it’s (the abbreviation for) ‘Baruch Hashem’
always hereParticipantjust a note: David Nelson, the son of ‘Ozzie & Harriet’ passed away yesterday @ age 74. He was the last of that famous radio/tv family to go.
always hereParticipantmy daughter was there late this afternoon (Shoprite, McD.&I) & asked the same question because it was soo busy: impending snowstorm &/or ‘can-can’ sale? also- my neighbor said her trip there took soo much longer. I think people were stocking up after the last snow fiasco.

January 10, 2011 2:00 am at 2:00 am in reply to: Did You Ever Quote A Post In A Real Life Conversation? #1211878always hereParticipantyes, I have mentioned/shared things I’ve read here in the CR.
always hereParticipantyes, oomis1105– it was very insulting when the shadchan said that the Lkwd boy suggested for my daughter would probably stop for the right girl!!
always hereParticipanttwice, (10 yrs. ago), while waiting @ the B11 busstop @ Ocean Pkway & Ave. I, B’klyn, frum looking men offered me rides. I’m a married woman, & I declined, of course. It was veryy creepy!! :/
I did take rides from frum looking women twice.
always hereParticipantb/c I’m pretty much always here. I’ve been getting all my news here for a veryy long time. then for maybe a year plus was reading all the CR posts of interest, until I finally wanted to comment on one. I’m online all day & night…

always hereParticipant“And a person who uses facebook and also smokes is just a real winner all around”
thanks! 🙂
always hereParticipantAinOhdMilvado– I personally know a couple, both smokers, who married off their 4 children & have 4 grandchildren, ka’h. And if you’re gonna ask: ‘don’t they want to be @ the grandchildren’s weddings?”, the answer is: yes, iy’H!
The wife stopped smoking for 14 yrs. but then started again; the husband has never tried to stop. They DO stop for 25 hrs. every Shabbos.
always hereParticipantI’m confused… in the OP’s 2nd post, he/she says that they were referring to reefer? .. for those unawares, reefer is pot/marijuana. hmmm, so did we all assume it was cigarettes, or was that ‘joke’?
always hereParticipantWhen my daughter was in shidduchim a Lakewood boy was suggested to her. Since a smoker was a deal breaker, I inquired, & was told: “for the right girl I’m sure he’ll stop”. My daughter refused the date.

always hereParticipant“It is a Nebuch how many people are listing Facebook as one of their Top 5 Sites.”
one person!?!?!
always hereParticipantagent- I also see no problem if one forgot an item & have done the same as you.
If I have a full wagon, I usually will let someone with just one or 2 items go ahead of me.
But I never can stay silent about someone saving a place in line– just standing there– while their mother (usually, but whoever) goes to do a full shopping. As someone said previously– you shop & when you’re finished, then you get on line. Derech eretz.
always hereParticipantI personally equate it with stealing… it IS stealing from the people behind– time-wise.
and yes, I know my name isn’t ‘mamashtakah’ 😉
always hereParticipantI am very against this! it’s not fair, plain & simple.. saving a place in line is so not right!! grrr
