we have a cousin in Beitar Ilit who drives, altho’ in that community her children would be kicked out of yeshiva if it was known. She puts on huge sunglasses, but I still don’t know how she gets away with it. we drove to Mama Ruchel’s kever together so I know this is a fact.

btw– I think my favorite paper to read is the Yated, altho’ we have a subscription to the weekend Hamodia.

I used to do alot of hand embroidery: yarmulkes, challah & matzah covers, Pesach pillowcases, etc.

I’m named for my maternal grandmother’s mother, & was absolutely thrilled to find out years later that she embroidered, too!

I have a framed embroidery she did, gotten from the home of my parents, A’H. It’s of a peacock, one of my favorite creatures because of it’s colors & iridescence. It definitely gave me a feeling of connection to my namesake! 🙂

“(Personally, I have seriously considered disconnecting my landline phone, as my contacts all know my cell phone number, in order to avoid having to pick up calls that are 99% of the time not calls I want to receive.)”

you took the words right out of my husband’s mouth!! now we let almost all calls go to voice mail after just 2 rings. we figure, if it’s a personal call, they’ll leave a message. if we can identify the caller as someone we want to speak with, we pick up.

it’s really very disturbing to have the phone ringing all day long :/

    @ chayav: “people without lives”?!

IMO~ people with a whole lot of combined years of experiences- life experiences- in dealing with all kinds & variations on most any problem or topic that might come across these boards!!

I am very unhappy when my (married)children call me while they’re driving, even on speaker/handsfree– veryy distracting IMO!: I try to cut short the conversation asap.

texting is wayy worse, IMO, because the eyes go to the text, not the road!

and no one speeds in the car when I’m in it!

    real sakunas! 🙁

    (btw~ I don’t drive.)

driving home from my older daughter’s first date with her (prospective) chosson, he pulled over to rest for a good 15 plus minutes. 2 wise young people! He’s still very makpid about this… esp. because he has the whole family aboard now. B’H for sechel! 🙂

“The Baal Simcha prepares food for how many people plan on being at the Seudah, he doesn’t want to pay for food for a hundred, when actually only ten end up staying.”

keep in mind, besides the joy of having the company of friends & loved ones present, a Baal Simcha never can ever really know (plan) how many people are coming, because you’re supposed to tell them about the bris, not invite… one has to ‘guesstimate’ anyway, so we prepare for more, & whoever comes: nuch besser! 🙂
