always hereParticipant
Bowwow~ firstly, apologies for your thread being hijacked.
” Did you see warning signs?”: in my dauughter’s case, I personally don’t, because I know from our doctor & MRI reports that she has real physical issues; but she says that she’s addicted cuz she still takes them even when she’s not in so much pain; that they help her concentrate better.
unrelated to my daughter: unfortunately, an addict, who has physical & psychological dependency, will say that they still have pain, even tho’ they don’t, to continue getting pills & in increasing dosages.
IMO, a real addict would go to several doctors concurrently so as to obtain multiple ‘scripts. that’s an absolute warning sign– if you see vials of pills with different doctors’ names. worse yet– pill bottles with different patients’ names… that would mean that the addict is either obtaining ‘scripts under aliases, or stealing medications from friends/family members’ medicine cabinets or drawers. there are other signs of addiction, but may I suggest you google them.
[disclaimer: my daughter gets hydrocodone– codeine w/ acetaminophen or ibuprofen),10 mg., 4x day; she takes her prescribed amount (sometimes 1/2 pill more), @ the times directed. there are times her prescription runs out before it’s refill time, & sometimes she borrows a couple or a few from me. I myself take them rarely cuz I don’t really get relief from them.]
always hereParticipantthis past year when my daughter & son both got married, B’H, I told them: be kind to each other, (& strive to make each other happy), respect each other, & communicate. and I wished them both together to be zoche to build a binyan adai ad!
both couples know that I’m there for them.
always hereParticipantmetrodriver~ understood.
1. absolutely! 2. B’H you didn’t miss work or shul… that’s pretty incredible considering what happened. 3. agree
always hereParticipantHealth~ it’s two eyes, sticking out his tongue, w/ a beard. 😉
always hereParticipantyankdownunder~ thank you for your suggestions. 🙂 yes & yes.
always hereParticipantaries~ I love reading your posts! they’re so sensible & well articulated. 🙂
always hereParticipantnope!
& B’H, iy’H, it’s all good =]
always hereParticipantwow, metrodriver!~ hope these horrible, painful incidences are now behind you! stay safe!!
always hereParticipantmosherose~ selective reading much?!
“‘live & let live’, of course within the bounds of halacha.” please read the WHOLE sentence, duh. this was my comment in relation to people being able to choose whether or not to eat in restaurants with a reliable hashgacha, re: oomis’ post: “If the food is unquestionably kosher, either eat it or don’t.”
always hereParticipanthere’s a whole page of info.. http://www.jewishrecipes.org/jewish-cooking-terms/imitation-crab-meat-surimi.html
always hereParticipantpro or in the CR?
always hereParticipantMazel Tov, recovering_addict! my sincere wishes for continued
strength!
I’m proud of her, too, but do you understand her problem? she’s in pain daily 🙁 …only a little better sometimes after a cortisone/steroid shot.
possibly, the bigger problem is that she comes from a family (5 outta 6) with addictive personalities. but this is not the place for more details, sorry.
always hereParticipantDaas~ I think you’re being unnecessarily harsh with oomis. I think she was speaking of having sholom here, & ‘live & let live’, of course within the bounds of halacha. IMHO
always hereParticipantFerd~ “SHE made the claim, so SHE should ask her posek”.
I know I’ve been having a problem with screen names & gender but ZAHAVA’S DAD?!?!? lol
always hereParticipantrandom acts of kindness: gender-less, race-less.
I, (of the ‘grey haired’ generation, was brought up to)thank basically anyone & everyone for whatever they do for me… & do for them, as well, as best as I can.
I thank the car svc driver, (in the past- the bus driver), the person behind the desk who gives me info, the receptionist who takes my paperwork, the person who holds the door, one who steps aside to let me out of the elevator, the deliveryperson, & even the policeman/woman, firemen, & Armed service people for their service to us & our country.
seriously, how much time does it take out of your life? and it’s always an added bonus to get a (sometimes delightfully surprised) smile in return!
😀
always hereParticipantzahavasdad~ refuah sheleima b’karov!
we live in Midwood/Flatbush, & don’t hold by the eruv; no one in our neighborhood, except the goyishe neighbors, shovel on Shabbos.
always hereParticipantzahavasdad~ a year ago my husband slipped & fell on the ice going to the mikvah. he wrentched something around his shoulder area & ended up with a purple, black & blue mark across his whole back, mamash! it faded, but he’s just barely gotten over the pain in his shoulder area WHEN–
the other day he had to pick up our grandsons from yeshiva, across the street from our house. as we in B’klyn all know, there are still piles of snow & there was treacherous ice on our streets. there was a path cleared for pedestrians right @ the corner… but a truly selfish, inconsiderate mother, who was picking up her son, parked right @ that corner, right in the only area that didn’t have ice, & my husband slipped! he caught himself, but re-wrentched his body :/
February 8, 2011 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm in reply to: Is it harder for Frum adults to form new relationships and make close friends? #737910always hereParticipantofcourse~ I get what you’re saying.
I also think it’s much easier to befriend peeps when the children are involved.
but as an ‘older’ person, new friends can be made in shul, & in shiurim, for both husband & wife. (once again, I don’t know your gender.) of course, @ first, they’ll just be acquaintances… but with time, real friendships can be made.
take into consideration all the good reasons you have for moving from one neighborhood to the other! 🙂

always hereParticipanthey eclipse!~
1. I loved the Goq’s poem to you 🙂
2. I’d take over ‘human spellchecker’ but think the job to be waaay too hard for me(waaaay too many errors all day, all the time! lol)
3.insofar as “Divulge more and more of their past history daily?”
I think I’m already doing that in a bigg way! :/
even tho’ I’ve only been here about 2 months, I’ve enjoyed your participation here soo much. I respect you wanting a real life as opposed to a cyber life, but please do try to check in once in awhile & let us know how you’re doin’.
Hatzlacha Rabbah! 😀

my daughter & I have found the opposite to be true. Emes seems to stay well, but Golden Flow seems to go bad faster… that’s our experience.
always hereParticipantthere’s always been a huge machlokes here with the Flatbush eruv!
always hereParticipantI know it’s hurtful; vent away.. we’re here for you! 🙂
always hereParticipantI absolutely agree with what was said by blinky, WolfishMusings, & 1dayatatime.
always hereParticipantmy 21 y.o. daughter’s having that problem right now! the complication with that tho’ is that she’s still in real pain! 🙁
she started seeing a therapist who specializes in that area. in fact, she went to an NA meeting last night (1st time) cuz he suggested it.
since age 17, she’s had back disc problems… which even resulted in a microdisectomy back then. she’s unfortunately had recurring problems & now has another herniated disc w/ a floating disc fragment.
but she feels that her problem is that she still takes her pills even when the pain isn’t so bad. she, herself, felt she has an addiction problem & went to seek help.
(btw~ she has an Orthodox [Chassidishe] therapist.)
always hereParticipantestherhamalka~ vent & rant away… we’re listening & here for you! your rachmonus for your child is what makes you a Mom 🙂
always hereParticipantI got a real kick outta eating KFC & Burger King in Israel! it was yumm-o! 🙂
always hereParticipantumm~ I’d agree with your assessment.
refuah sheleima b’karov to all!
February 8, 2011 5:15 am at 5:15 am in reply to: which company cholov yisroel milk do you recommend #738142always hereParticipantthe least expensive these days seems to be ‘Emes’
always hereParticipantthanks for the explanation.
I must admit it did feel strange @ first (CR cross-mechitza chats); I’ve never been in a chatroom before.
just as an aside, tho’– half the time I thought a screen name was one gender, it turned out I was wrong. hmmm
‘posting to an audience’: I like that.
always hereParticipant“It is an issue of Vekidashta.”
what does this mean, please?
always hereParticipantfunny, rite?! LOL
always hereParticipantaries~ happy to hear that you’re now on the way to iy’H a complete & speedy recovery!
always hereParticipantis one of the Mods overseeing the YWN-FB page, or a whole other separate person?
(also, I wanted to ‘bump’ this thread up to hear feedback & the controversy that, I believe, will result from this endeavor.)
always hereParticipantonegoal~ 25 NIS = $6.80 US
always hereParticipantguardmytongue~ LOL. I very much enjoyed reading your comment above! 🙂
I’m a (long-time) BT of the ‘Woodstock’ generation, & still love my music (which, I believe, has kept me young)… if that info helps 😉
I have 4 married FFB chilren, & 4 grandchildren ka’h, B’H!
I’m ‘always here’ due to some health issues, unfortunately.(please don’t let that be a ‘bring down’).
iy’H, I hope to continue drinking!… from the fountain of youth that is, duh! lol 😉
thanks for givin’ me the big smile that’s on my face now! 😀
always hereParticipantkeep an eye on him! my 3 grandchildren were all on antibiotics for strep during their stay with me… & they all were throwing up :/
always hereParticipantmbachur~ refuah sheleima b’karov to all!
it’s going around. my son-in-law just over it, & I had to babysit my grandchildren overnite Thurs. & my 3 y.o. granddaughter had it for the 2 days she was by me 🙁
always hereParticipantAinOhdMilvado~ yes, I remember.
… I was one of the last to get a cell fone a couple of years ago, & was shocked to see the public phones had gone to 50 cents a call!!
always hereParticipantbut you do know, fyi, that one can then access other peeps’ pages who ‘like’ the page; how much?– depending on their privacy settings. I’m just sayin’….
always hereParticipantoh, ok– thank you! (maybe it should be removed, Mod?)
always hereParticipant“-When I spent my first summer in Israel and wrote home on those fold-up airograms, but didn’t call home the whole summer because the only way to make an international phone call was from the main branch of the Post Office on Rechov Yaffo.”
thanks for the memories!! aerograms & asimonim!
always hereParticipantI am forever grateful to BYBPHS for accepting my youngest daughter when all the other high schools wouldn’t because she was not a ‘top’ student. <B’s weren’t acceptable?!?!> (her elementary school’s HS had closed down.) she flourished there academically, thanks to the Ichud program.. altho’ she felt veryy stigmatized to be in it.
and yes, I try to “put my money where my mouth is.” hakoras hatov.
always hereParticipantachosid~ thanks! even tho’ I’ve been on FB for more than a couple of years, I still never completely understood the difference, & wondered how much of my ‘stuff’ they could see.
always hereParticipanteclipse~ I figured (correctly) that you and a couple of the other gals were somewhat younger than me. I had posted my age on another thread.
but my youngest is (whoa! where’d this last year go?!) gonna be 22 in Adar Bais (March), amush.
always hereParticipanthmmm… I havta think about whether or not to ‘friend’ YWN on FB. I feel like I would havta compromise/censor myself if I did ‘like’ the page. at the very least, my photos– which I have no problem sharing with my family & real friends on FB.
a quandary… I’m still thinkin’….
always hereParticipantsame here,(same dor), but I couldn’t remember those prices
always hereParticipantOh. My. Goodness!!!! :/
always hereParticipantmorah reyna~ those are such hurtful experiences… it breaks my heart to hear them 🙁
always hereParticipantfacebook?! glad you don’t know my IRL name! oh wait! you do!! :/
p.s.- I don’t tweet.
