” Whither goest nussach ultimately goes trop.”
Fact: if you go to Moshav Mevo Modi’in, the moshav that R’Shlomo started over 36+ years ago, the epitome of a Carlebach Minyan, you will hear the layning the same as in any other shul.
I had the zechus to be there for a Shabbos back then when R’Shlomo was there, & have been there numerous times subsequently… the most recent was almost 2 yrs ago.
I find your comment uninformed, ignorant-sounding, & an insult! :/
always hereParticipantwho cares~ “And btw, if your parent is mochel, then you don’t need to!!” whew! I got nervous at the thought that my Torah Practicing Jewish children weren’t considered Torah Practicing Jews!
always hereParticipantoops! sorry, Goq~ there was a mix-up w/ Wolfish, re: photography…. & I did get enuf sleep, oy!
always hereParticipant(I’m sure you meant ‘puerile’)
always hereParticipant“(I am the only one in the community who actually had the un-zechus to see Carlebach in action.)”
R’Shlomo, a’h, was a very sweet neshama & an acquaintance of mine & my husband. while we may not agree with how he held, that’s a very mean-spirited comment … but, of course, you’re entitled to your opinion.
always hereParticipantthis reminds me of the time: I was on facebook, commenting back & forth with my daughter, & my friend commented: “don’t you two have a phone to call each other?!” ;-P

kakores hatov to all of you who are trying to make shidduchim.
always hereParticipantSJS~ I also have a fear of heights… not like looking out my 2nd floor window, but more like standing at the edge of a canyon, or on the small balcony of a 23 story building. but I love to fly & enjoy looking out the window at takeoff & landing. go figure.
always hereParticipantoh, ok.. sorry, I mistakenly caught a ‘bad vibe’
always hereParticipantmy favorite, makes-me-laugh-right-now-just-to-think-of-it, shtick was having a stiff dog’s harness w/ stiff leash… (like an invisible dog.. get it?)… walking ‘it’ to shul brought simcha to everyone who crossed my path. 😀
(it was a novelty item.. I didn’t make it)
always hereParticipantI had a feeling this was an inflammatory OP that would result in loshon hora.. JMO
always hereParticipantyes, Goq, you’re absolutely normal…
listen to some chill music & peruse some of your photographs cuz we know that makes you happy 🙂
always hereParticipanthaha… memories..
I remember when I came back from Israel & met my (future) in-laws for the first time: they asked if I had gone to the ‘Koysil” & I didn’t know what they were talking about!
I still say ‘Kotel’; my husband says ‘Koysel’.
always hereParticipantsince everybody’s ‘fessin’ up…
I’ve gotten phobic riding in cars, mainly front passenger seat, but especially in vans.. afraid of crashing. (never been in an accident, B’H, bli ayin hora).
a number of years ago I went for behavior modification, but it wasn’t successful cuz I felt like the therapist was using some tv/movie hypnosis-style techniques, & I couldn’t take him seriously. back then it was just vans, but now it’s also cars 🙁
always hereParticipantguy-ocho~ Snapple Fact: many CR members use google 😉
(I’m in the 10%, no surprise)
always hereParticipantveteran~ you should put a disclaimer on your joke! there are people who are unfamiliar with ‘Nair’ … I’m just sayin’
always hereParticipantsad to say, but a drug dealer can look like almost any one of us (not so much frum older women). you’re thinking of the stereotype, whereas the truth is otherwise :/
always hereParticipanthaha, blinky! sounds familiar! 🙂
always hereParticipantand crack dealers dress how?!
always hereParticipantI got my job at the Yeshiva from my tuition interview!
when it was learned that I was ‘just’ a housewife, who had worked at this same Yeshiva a number of years previously, & they had a position that needed to be filled, … hashgacha pratis!
always hereParticipantmewho~ “I’m the youngest and I think both youngest and oldest were great in my home. We are two siblings.
So happy to be me!” … same here, but I’m the older one 🙂
always hereParticipantmbachur~ yes it does.
btw~ I agree you should change your misleading screen name, JMO 🙂
always hereParticipant“Some places will go so far as to ask where you shop for clothing. (to determine your lifestyle- such as whether you shop in Gap or Wall-Mart)”
asked verbally? I’m just curious cuz that I can’t imagine that being on a written form.
always hereParticipantinquiries can be made about the grandparents.
always hereParticipanthahahaha, Mod! 😀
always hereParticipantwhen I had children at home, or now when they visit, one would open my hands up after lighting candles & kiss me.
oiysh, I’m getting misty…
always hereParticipant“Sodium tallowate, a common ingredient in many soaps, is derived from rendered beef fat.” sorry, I don’t want that on my dishes, utensils, or skin
always hereParticipant“sponges should not be manufactured on shabbos”
shlomozalman~ that is an hysterical, absurd comment! 😉
I apologize to the poster shlomozalman for criticizing him publicly in this post. My comment has since been deleted
always hereParticipant“B’H– 2 yrs ago I won, @ different Chinese auctions: 2 trips to Colorado, a diamond ring, diamond earrings, a 2 yr car lease on a mini van, $500 Artscroll gift certificate, $500 B&H gift certificate, a sheitel, bookcase. 21 volume English Mishna Breurah,a GPS, $250 Step 2 Toys gift certificate,a gift certificate for a free bridal gown rental (& B’H, my daughter got married within the year!!!!– it was a ‘jackpot’ prize… she wasn’t shidduch dating before that), etc. In the past I had won: another bookcase, another 2 sheitels , a leather couch, The ‘Tur’ & many other seforim, silver candlesticks, a child’s bedroom set, woman’s shopping spree, a ‘den’ decorating pkg., a dinette set, a simcha singer’s services (used for my son’s wedding),etc. // for the past year and a half, I haven’t won anything! no complaints… I always say: it’s decided on Rosh Hashana & sealed on Hoshana Rabbah…”

always hereParticipantfirst thread I offically joined the CR for this past December 😉
always hereParticipantY.S.G.F.K.~ “why something could be 99 cents and the same thing could be 80 dollars”
the starting BID may be 99 cents, but once people are bidding on the item, the cost (shipping not included) can go up veryyy high. if you’re just starting out there, be careful not to get caught up in the bidding frenzy!
g’luck 🙂
always hereParticipantdouble standard~ “By partaking in a meal on St. Patty’s your not taking on the holiday, your just eating the food”
meal, food, St. Patty’s: all operative words.
years ago I went to a business St. Patty’s party uptown, with large picture windows overlooking the parade. all the food & hor d’oeuvres & wines were definitely treife. I had a drink & left, as I knew this wasn’t my scene, but for business purposes I had shown my face.
as I said previously (in other words)– I doubt your meal would be kosher; any observant Jews wouldn’t be making this party in the first place. JMO.
always hereParticipantI would question the kashrus, as for the main fact of that ‘celebratory’ meal being held for that specific purpose would be suspect.
always hereParticipantmy United Airlines miles are expiring at the end of this month.
how do I transfer them to my American Express acc’t?
any help will be greatly appreciated.
always hereParticipantif it was meat, it’d be a problem.
if it’s flour for Pesach, it’s a problem.
if it’s only plain flour, it shouldn’t be a problem.
if the mashgiach is worth his salt, he’d notice the torn, re-taped bag once he sees the deliveries inside.
always hereParticipantI didn’t realize some think ‘Peretz’ is uncommon… it’s my son’s middle name & also that of a family friend in the neighborhood.
always hereParticipantI buy whatever’s on sale (really like Royal); but the best fish I ever had was called ‘Shabbos Fish’, & I believe we got it from Crown Hts. @ Pesach time.
always hereParticipantmy youngest was born in Adar Beis.. she’s always thrilled for leap years to celebrate her ‘real’ birthday.
all 4 of my grandparents, a’h, have Adar yahrzeits… I’m so glad I receive (mail) reminders; I’ve received for this month… now I’m curious if I’ll receive for Adar Beis as well.
always hereParticipantyoyo56~ I just saw an array of prices on amazon.com .. I personally have never bought there, but my daughter buys things from there regularly.
always hereParticipantit’s a 3-D puzzle/game.
google is a gr8 thing! 😉
always hereParticipantWolfish & other sincere CR adults~ sorry to say, but I think we’re being played in alot of the threads by young teens ://
always hereParticipantWolfish~ I think we keep getting roped in by the young’ens
always hereParticipantshould YWN start a cocoa room for those who, for whatever reason, shouldn’t be in the coffee room?

February 13, 2011 11:25 pm at 11:25 pm in reply to: Handed a Pen during Shiva – anyone know the story? #1006689always hereParticipantthanks for the laffs, 600Kilobear~ I need it after some of the narishkeit I read here!
oops! haha 😉
always hereParticipantmy mother, a’h, died first… please read complete comments.
just curious, shlishi– are you old enough to vote?
always hereParticipant“I always knew that if a person remarries for whichever reason, he may not be buried near his first wife when he dies.”
IMO, this is incorrect. my beloved father, A’H, remarried twice after my beloved Mother, A’H, was niftar. he is buried next to her (my Mom).
I am re-married & you had better believe that I am, iy’H after 120, gonna be next to my (now) husband, the father of my children. (and, my husband is not gonna be buried next to his 1st wife!!)
always hereParticipantyes, sorry.. writing fast & whispering cuz I wanted to keep this hijack on the DL, but wanted 2 acknowledge ur reply. selicha. plan 2 mention this 2 my dghtr b4 her next app’t. ty again.
