HaLeiVi~ for YEARS I believed that dairy products were mucous-forming & discouraged my family from them when sick, but recently read about a report that came out that claims that’s a fallacy.

for congestion I suggest: hot tea, hot chicken soup, nasal spray or drops, &/or a decongestant. when I had a runny nose recently, my daughter gave me some Nyquil (has an antihistimine)& it reallyy helped me, altho’ it made me drowsy. I’ve heard that zinc tablets may help, as well as Vitamin C from rosehips.

    Refua Sheleima b’karov!

B’H I never had sciatica problems during pregnancies, but I did have my 1st attack a couple of days before my older daughter’s wedding, almost 8 yrs. ago. I was picking up my daughter’s tiara in Boro Park, & was sooo crippled in pain– couldn’t walk 3 steps!!– that I called my future son-in-law to please come pick me up (in a car). altho’ I have numerous bulging discs, including ALL lumber discs, my L5-S1 is in the worst shape, but B’H, I only have back problems– no pains shooting down my leg(s).

OTOH, my younger daughter, @ age 17, suffered with shooting pains down her legs & it turned out she had a herniated disc & had subsequent surgery. now at almost 22 (& married over a year), she is again having the exact same problem; it turns out she has a herniated disc there again! 🙁 .. she’s seeing someone about it, but after it’s resolved SHE IS SOO NERVOUS ABOUT GETTING PREGNANT!!.. she wonders if she’s having these horrible back problems as a ‘regular’ person, how much will she suffer pregnant?! B’H, she’s getting some reassurances from her doctors & physical therapists.

we all should only hear good news, iy’H!

I LOVE flowers!! when I used to walk up to Ave. J or be around Maimonides Hospital I’d buy flowers (a bunch of beauties for $3-$5-$7)erev Shabbos. now I don’t, but my children give me gorgeous bouquets for Yom Tovim, & my birthday.

my husband, OTOH, buys me treats for Shabbos: GRIEVEN or CHOPPED LIVER!!! they’re ‘treats’ cuz I have high blood pressure & high cholesterol (both under control w/ meds). thanks, lovey, but I sure would love some flowers for the Shabbos table once in a while, too!! 😉

in the past, I have done a little something different in addition to sending Shalach Manos & giving Matanos Leevyonim: one year I brought a roll of gold dollar coins to shul & distributed one to each of the children in shul (& sometimes to the children I’d see in costume on my way walking to shul); I’d compliment their costumes & it’d bring a surprised smile to their faces. (don’t worry! of course, I also gave the few in shul who weren’t dressed up for Purim, too!).

I always remember how much my own children loved seeing how much money they accumulated for their mitzvah of being the shaliach for delivering Shalach Manos. (neighbors gave upward from nothing, to a quarter, to a dollar… with Aunts, Uncles, & Grandparents giving $5, $10, or $20). my children loved seeing how much money they made as much as seeing all the great nosh they got 🙂 ..

As happens more often, my husband gives me a stack of dollar bills, that I’d give out to the children in shul on Purim ($1 each), as well as my being able to show Hakoras Hatov (w/ money) to the gentleman who leyned the Megillah.

ah, memories! drinking a Starbucks coffee @ their little shop at Pike Place Market in Seattle about 5 yrs. ago. (no sandwiches were sold there @ the time). haven’t had one since then– when my sister made aliyah from Seattle; but have had coffee @ Aroma & Coffee Bean (Yerushalayim). 🙂

    just an aside……

anytime someone posts that they’re feelin’ down, they really should be sent to this thread (like someone suggested on another thread once already).

aries~ years ago, my nephew also dressed similarly to your youngest son… but he took it a step further: as a full-blown milkmaid (with blonde wig in braids)! my sister-in-law is veryy (Chassdishe) frum, & I’m surprised she allowed this cross-dressing, but I reallyy thought he was a girl!

my favorite, funny: me walking an invisible dog– on a stiff leash, with a stiff harness– down a couple of blocks & then down Avenue J, to shul. EVERYONE, especially me!, got such a kick out of it!! :))

laziness (no offense, Mod-80). add onto that: poor, if not omitted, punctuation, spelling errors, incorrect grammar, & the failure to re-read their posts to check for errors & subsequent editing. selicha, but it’s my pet peeve. … no hard feelings, y’all! 🙂

[altho I’ll allow for the fact if someone’s writing quickly & perhaps passionately, they might not want to waste time to capitalize.]

and, please– no comments that I don’t capitalize the first word of my sentences ;D

males can dress up in a ‘gi’– karate white pants & jacket, (or in black), w/ black cloth belt (or other color)– w/ bandana around the head. add a pair of nunchucks, & after Purim, you can all sign up for martial arts/defense classes. 🙂

in days gone by we did about 60, in addition to special ones for the Rebbeim & Morahs. last year, my husband ordered thru the shul to send shalach manos to all members,(I don’t know if he plans on that for this year), plus I made @ least 20, but had leftovers. now, with all my children outta the house,I plan on making about a dozen, with 4 separate special ones for each of our grandchildren. 🙂

please pardon the interruption to your question..

I was just reminded how when we lived on the top floor of a 5th floor walk-up, across the street from Prospect Park, my Mother, a’h, used to tie some money in a piece of paper (probably a quarter) & throw it out the window to me. .. we’re talking like early 60’s.
