always hereParticipant
oy! how do I tie in my younger daughter to your question, eclipse?
my older daughter was gonna drive me to your film (she had her sons’ Yeshiva Neshei Tea to attend). I even dyed my hair, <cuz some shows in the front of my teichel or snood, oops! wrong thread!>; planned on what I’d wear; & even fantasized about introducing myself as ‘always here’….
(argh.. I should’ve written about my friend’s visit on THIS thread instead of ‘Truth is stranger than fiction”.)
so my friend, who I went to yeshiva with in Israel in ’76, came in from the Midwest for a wedding. we haven’t seen each other in 20+ yrs.
she said she’d be checking out of her Manhattan hotel & then coming to B’klyn to see me. I figured she’d be by me around 2 at the latest. but my lovable shlamazel friend, first left her phone & camera in the car service, then had to wait for the driver to return it; checked into Midwood Suites after 4pm, (to find the man in her bed). stopped by her 86 year old & 91 y.o. cousins. came to me 5:30ish. I had told her I had plans. when I spoke with another really good friend & explained my dilemma, she said I really should choose getting together with my old friend, cuz she’s human (seriously, she said that… no reference to your subtitle, lol), & I had to agree. the visit lasted ’til 9:40. I thought about bringing her to the film, but she was wearing jeans; I didn’t think that would reallyy be a problem, but 1) she wasn’t into going & 2)I would’ve felt a little uncomfortable making my first impression like that.
I felt sooo badly cuz I REALLY did want to show you my support! :/
always hereParticipantGoq~ I’d give you some random praise if you had suggested anything BUT macaroni arts & crafts ‘EREV’ Pesach!! :-O
always hereParticipantthank you for sharing, yogibooboo! 😉
surprised to hear that Shwekey played the Beacon; back in the day I saw the Allman Brothers & another time, the Rolling Stones there.
always hereParticipantshe & her DH are coming to us for Shabbos cuz her English b-day falls on Saturday.
always hereParticipantmy old (girl) friend was staying at Midwood Suites the other night. the front desk gave her the combination to her room, & when she entered: there was a man sleeping in the bed!
funniest phone call I think I’ve ever had (was her calling me to tell me “there’s a man in my bed!!!!!!!!”).
always hereParticipanttonight/tomorrow’s my daughter’s 22nd birthday, ka’h! Hay Adar Beis.
March 10, 2011 11:16 pm at 11:16 pm in reply to: Today 4 adar is Rav Avrohom Blumenkrantz`s Yahrtzeit Any good stories #762070always hereParticipantthe one time I went to a pre-Pesach shiur R’Blumenkrantz, a’h, was giving, I was soo impressed by his genuine warmth & sense of humor.
May his neshama have an aliyah.
always hereParticipantbpt~ actually, I omitted that I always put a couple of slices of cheese around on the whites, plus *gasp* baco-bits. occasionally I do scramble up the same ingredients…. usually when I’m making for the DH, too.
always hereParticipantpardon my interjection, but yaff80, I would’ve figured, for sure, that you’re a ‘Yaffa’! .. ha ha on me.. now, selicha.
always hereParticipantmy thought, phillybubby~ Brooklyn is sooo not “ir hakodesh”!! :-O
always hereParticipantI used to make carrot kugel cake … great side dish especially on Rosh Hashana & Succos 🙂
always hereParticipantmost of my immediate family “Mmmm”s .. as in showing satisfaction 🙂
always hereParticipantI alternate breakfasts, following 2 coffees first thing. I usually eat within 2 hrs. after the coffees, so I can take my Calcium w/ Vitamin D (which should be taken w/ food).
— oatmeal w/ raisins, craisins, & sliced almonds. -or-
— 3 sunny-side-up eggs layered on 2 slices of multi-grain whole wheat bread. -or-
— 2 slices multi-grain w.w. buttered toast w/ a slice of cheese atop each slice, (sometimes grilled). -or- much less often:
— a bowl of non-sugary cold cereal w/ raisins or banana, milk, splenda.
waitin’ for the possible onslaught re: THREE eggs 😉
always hereParticipantI agree, Goq. that’s always the first place I go in the paper, cuz the letters are usually very entertaining. last week’s were a snooze.
always hereParticipantWolfish~ I personally don’t think you should be beating yourself up over this… after all– you’re only human! oy! or are you? 😉 .. if you hadn’t taken that very much needed break, then you probably would not have been able to complete your endeavor… & THEN we would have been able to really discuss & debate your obligation.
tizku l’mitzvahs!
always hereParticipantI say ‘Pay-sach’, my husband says ‘Pie-sach” … you say potato & I say pototo… 😉
always hereParticipantthis isn’t advice, sorry…
but I’m a little jealous that my daughter’s in-laws are going away to a hotel in Florida again this Pesach. there! I’ve said it.
always hereParticipantsome things you NEVER forget, & I haven’t thought about this for years!
I was taking my newborn daughter out for a stroll on Ave. J in one of those big carriages. her red string had fallen off in the house. a woman came over to peer into the carriage, &, of course, I was expecting some sort of compliment, but she said: ” Oh! that baby looks dead!” <ptew, ptew.. that’s me spitting against an ayin hora>.
obviously, the woman was deranged/mental.. but I hurried home, replaced a new red string on her & was veryy freaked out, & needed consolation.
that was 29 1/2 years ago.
always hereParticipantMazel Tov! wishing you nachas and shalom!
always hereParticipant& I posted a reply there, too, mbachur 🙂
always hereParticipantmbachur~ the Diaspora Yeshiva is not a seminary. it was a co-ed BT yeshiva with separate classes for boys & girls.
always hereParticipantmbachur~ if it had been a sem, I would have called it a sem., but it was the Diaspora Yeshiva on Har Tzion.
always hereParticipantI’d like to thank a friend of mine for giving me an evening of almost non-stop laughs… reminiscing about our days in yeshiva in Israel in 1976. she came in from the Midwest for a wedding & this was the 2nd time I’d seen her (the last time was 20+ yrs. ago) since our Har Tzion days.
always hereParticipantGoq~ easy-shmeezy, B’H… you lie on your back on a table that has an attached x-ray ‘arm’ suspended over it. the technician moves it first from ankles to hips, then hip to chest; then a separate step where they do your arm. I believe it took less than 15 minutes. then the radiologist examined the results on the computer & gave me a basic ‘it’s within normal range (B’H!), & the complete results will be sent to your doctor.” completely painless, no pre-procedure preps needed. g’luck 🙂
always hereParticipant“do they make it with matzarella?”……. pure genius! 😀
always hereParticipantjust back from my bone density test 😉
always hereParticipantISFJ

always hereParticipantI tried to, but my daughter who drives had a previous Rosh Chodesh commitment; she offered to drive me to the film tomorrow. I’m really gonna try hard to make it… I hope I can, iy’H… these heavy rains are hard on my body 🙁
always hereParticipantyes, Manwich– that’s it!
always hereParticipantthe easiest recipe:
1 med. onion
1 lb. hamburger
1/2 c. ketchup
1/4 c. mustard
8 oz. can tomato sauce
Chop 1 medium onion, crumble 1 pound hamburger into heated fry pan. Add salt to taste. Cook until meat is brown. Stir in 1/2 cup ketchup and 1/4 cup mustard or 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce. Cook slowly until warm. Serve on bun or bread. Makes 6 servings.
personally, I’d decrease the mustard.
I remember they sell a can of ‘sloppy joes’ that you just mix in with hamburger… that’s reallyy the easiest; sorry can’t remember the brand.
always hereParticipantthey just had a HUGE sale at Junee warehouse, B’klyn… 2 for $5., believe it or not!! my daughters got a bunch…
always hereParticipantrebbitzen~ then you must’ve tried quinoa, too, in the past?
always hereParticipantMother~ we women/mothers understand: when the baby starts to shift into the proper birth position in the third trimester, it can rest directly on the nerve, causing a major pain in the butt (and back, and legs). …. sending my empathetic love & spiritual strength to you! 🙂
always hereParticipantyossi z.~ so S-L-O-W D-O-W-N a little.. you should be able to do it! 🙂
always hereParticipantecliipse!!!!!!!!!!!~ I saw the ad in this wk’s Yated &/or JP or Hamodia, & I knew it was you!!! :))
.. I’d really like to attend– of course as ‘always here’ 🙂
ok– I just found the article in the Yated: performances scheduled for this Sunday the 6th, & Monday, the 7th at the Agudah of Avenue L’s lower ballroom, in Flatbush!!!
besides the options listed, may we purchase tkts at the door? oh! & no times are listed 🙁
may all of you involved in this project have hatzlacha RABBA!!!
😀
always hereParticipantMother in Israel is, as she says, towards the end of the pregnancy; the baby is more than likely pressing on her sciatic nerve.
altho’ a nice cuppa wouldn’t be bad 🙂
March 6, 2011 6:55 am at 6:55 am in reply to: Rather stay single than marry someone who isnt what they envisioned……. #747348always hereParticipant“They were questions, NOT accusations.
They sure seem like accusations to a bunch of us.”
yep!
always hereParticipantJMO, yeshivabochur123, but I don’t see any problem with waiting a year or two at your age. you havta have a serious discussion with your Mom & explain things as sensibly & reasonably as you have voiced your feelings & plans here. g’luck.
always hereParticipantfeelin’ for ya, Mother in Israel, & wishing you well!
always hereParticipantI made my cholent with basmati rice this week, instead of beans, for a (big) change.
always hereParticipantfuggedaboudit .. good clue?! lol 😉
always hereParticipant“If he lives there and you share garbage bins, I could see it, although it would still be mentchlich to share the responsibilities.”
yes, it would be mentschlach… our tenants are half our ages, have almost twice as much garbage as us, & never put the cans to the curb, nor bring them back. :/
always hereParticipantafter Purim.
always hereParticipantyou can google it. I was gonna cut & paste it here for you, but it was long.. unless you just want just ingredients w/ no directions? 🙂
always hereParticipant“Anyone who does not send response cards is looking for financial disaster.”
none of my husband’s 1st cousins (& each one has 10+ children ka’h) send response cards; they’re Chassidishe/Rebbishe. there are always seats, always enough food. I personally don’t know how they do it.
my husband wanted no response cards for all 4 of our children’s weddings… noooo way!! we had response cards!! .. with pretty poor percentages of responses, btw; I had to make alott of calls! :/
always hereParticipantwhen you posed this query previously, I asked you if you’re talking about: what percentage of all invitations sent out? -or- what percentage of people who responded that they will attend & then don’t? … you never answered.
do you send out your invitations in the style of “response cards we do not send, for we hope you will attend”?
always hereParticipantstickynote~ I didn’t realize you were the one who originally claimed to be able to figure out almost everything about a poster… feel free to give ‘always here’ a try, lol.
always hereParticipanti am here~ I do believe that I would be quite a bit harder for you to figure out! LOL ;-P
always hereParticipantthanks for asking these questions, & for the answers given. I sure was wondering the same things, too. 😉
