In the yeshivish world, I’d say that the reason girls mature at a younger age is because they go out to work, college etc and are given responsibility. The boys sit in yeshiva and they mature merely becuase of age not becuase of any causative factor. Therefore, it takes them longer to reach the maturity level that a girls reaches earlier.

That’s not soo bad cofeefan! considering the issues you had these past couple of weeks its really not terrible. I would say that for this A1C it means you had very good control except for that time when u went crazy high and couldnt control it which wasnt your fault. If u wouldnt have had that episode you probably wld have remained in the 6’s. (dont quote me though im no medical expert just a fellow D)

Dont be so harsh on yourself PLEASE!

I know you really wanna get your numbers down so just keep pushing on and you’ll have great numbers next visit iyh!!

btw Did you give it to your doc for not responding to your emergency??

ye simcha that’s pretty much what i was saying without having ever gone to a nutritionist..well actually my endo decided that i had high cholesterol and sent me to a lipid specialist who had a dietitian on site. I went to her as part of the visit and OMG she had not the slightest clue about diabetes!!! when i told her that i need to give myself insulin for milk she thought i was crazy..hello? everyone knows that lactose is milk sugar!! and then when i told her i eat salad for lunch cuz its no carb she was literally ready to shoot me cuz “you have to keep ur carbs balanced! How could u go for a meal without carbs!” By the time i left i was ready to shoot her!!! 🙂 wtvr!

BOSD- im actually quite happy being by a pediatric doc cuz i think they care more. Yes the wait is FOREVER at maimonidies and i jump outa my skin by i think its worth it for my doc.

simcha- ye they told me neesha was leaving..i never really had much to do with her though so it doesnt make a difference to me..

Since ur anyway using that group at maimonidies why dont you try switching over to doc i mentioned before shes really great!!!! I never used Ten so i cant compare.

CF- I never used a nutritionist..the prob is that most nutritionist specialize in weight loss so i dont know how much they’ll know about diabetes..thy’re usually gr8 at their specialty and then if you ask them something else they might not know much about it..u cld try chaya stern she’s a PA and a nutritionist so she might be well rounded 🙂

Reb- what? why doesnt ur endo help u get ur #’s under control? mine checks my meter at each visit and if she sees a high number she wants an explanation and if there are too many highs then….im basically in for it!! 🙂

simcha- I think u shld switch to a doc who’s nice but scary at the same time cuz that’s what will u motivated (at least thats what keeps me motivated.) My doc is soo nice, every time I come I get a huge hello etc but at the same time if my numbers arent good she’ll get upset at me, like last time I went to her and I told her that my postprandial dinner numbers are high-ish she got upset at me (serioulsy) that i eat rice with supper and insisted that i do not need it at all!!! now, that is what motivates me to change cuz firstly im scared of her 🙂 and also cuz she does it in a way that makes me want to change..she told me stories about ppl who are still living and their in their 90’s with type 1 since teenage years!

It’s definitley not easy and noone will say it is but you gotta do it for urself!! btw im only D for almost 3 years now and im for sure less motivated than i was a while back but i push myself and think about the future. I wanna be a good wife and have healthy children iyh! 🙂

if u wanna my docs info i cld give it to u but she only takes new patients till 21. (even though i just turned 21 she said she’ll keep me cuz i started with her when i was under 21)

sorry for such a long post- i know theyre annoying..:)

Rebbitzen- oy I hope ur sister is gonna be okay iyh!! she must be very nervous especially cuz she sees what u go thru!! How old is she?

isnt it weird though that she would have all of those symtoms with just 135? when i was diagnosed and was having the symptoms my number was around 600 when i got to the ER. I was feeling really bad for a couple of days but 135 is not that high (If i felt that way whenever i was 135 yikes! that would be bad!) i wld prob live in the bathroom lol.

Keep us updated on ur sister.

Hi everyone! I just got back from my checkup with my endo and my A1c is 6.9 bh! I wish it was lower but im blaming it on yom tov! lol the doc said shes heard that excuse this week a couple of times!

so she wants me to bring it down to 6.3 so that i can live till 100! I told her that i eat rice often with supper and she said i shld totally cut it out and eat ww bread instead and ill be 6.3 by my next visit. You think it will work?

Health- In one of her previous posts Rebbitzen wrote that she’s looking for a learning boy ..doesnt sound like he’ll be in medicine but just for the record I happen to be a health science student and a Diabetic so he might not know less than me after all :)-

Rebbitzen- I dunno if the ten pounds will make a difference cuz everyone’s body is different…the main thing about pregnancy and diabetes is that your numbers have to VERY GOOD right before conception and then throughout the entire pregnancy its definitely not easy! I’m nervous about it too. The main thing is to get your numbers under control for urself! because you wanna live a long and healthy life iyh dont worry about the boys Hashem will work it out! They’ll only hear whatever he wants them to hear.

can I ask if ur overweight because even though type 2 is more affected by weight i think that even type 1’s whos weight is within range have better control..speaking from experience, i bh am thin but I do fluctuate by a couple of pounds and I always found that when I weighed as little as even 3-5 pounds above my normal weight it was harder to control my numbers. When im at my thinnest my numbers are MUCH better. (well maybe the reason is becasue usually when ur at ur thinnest ur not eating cake!! 🙂 but seriously i think it has something to do with it….

When u say u havta get ur numbers under contrl cuz of shidduchim what do u mean? is it cuz ur worried abuut after ur wedding? (preg) or like is the boy gonna ask u what ur last A1c was -as if he’ll know what it is lol

cofeefan- Great Job! KEEP IT UP! anything under 7 is good 🙂 I find that the key to having good A1C’s is making sure ur nights are really in the range (and more to the lower side lets say 80 instead of 110) The few months that my nights were good my A1c’s were fantastic.

I just took lab work and im goin to the doc on friday so ill let u know then…8 is pretty high though I havent been over 7 bh over the last year probably (maybe even more) baruch hashem!!!The only time i was over 8 was way in the beginning -like the first few months. do u think its cuz of yom tov or is it usually like this? what was the previous A1c?

can someone please tell me what this sandpaper mouth thing is about? is it because ur naturaly thirsty or does it have something to do with ur numbers??

I always laugh when my father puts the honey on my challah cuz he puts such a tiny bit as if that’s gonna make all the difference! if i stopped eating dessert and ate a 1/2 tsp honey i’d be better off! LOL

My numbers were actually pretty good bh! I wouldnt say great though…I was very generous with the insulin maybe a bit too generous and i got low after two of the meals but there’s plenty to eat so it was fine bh.

There’s one thing though that gets me nervous. On yom tov or shabbos when i eat a late meal sometimes what happens is that my numbers are within the range when i go to bed but when i wake up they can be like 160 ish or even in the 200’s! I always get very frustrated about it cuz i hate starting off the day high especially when i know im gonna be eating a ton of carbs that day (or for the next three in this case!!!)
