mi2- I did that but in the meantime I may as well have someone come down to the house..thanks! Are you on the omnipod? are u happy with it?

health- it would be almost impossible for someone with diabetes to have an A1c of less than 6 without having too many lows for long amounts of time.

btw I have always been curious as to what kind of medicine you practice..care to share?

coffefan- ha ha pun wasnt even intended!!

Maybe Ill call someone from minimed… i think ur right.

The thing is that my doc isnt so supportive of the omnipod. Not like shes against it but she doesnt see why I dont want the regular traditional pump..anyway, i think that shes starting to get on my nerves lately so maybe ill switch docs soon.

    coffefan- congrats!!

I went low on purim night and on purim day cuz at the seudah I thought I would eat much more than I did so I ended up drinking like 3 cups of orange juice!! I havent drank that much OJ in like 6 months put together..it was not fun!!!! especially cuz there was so much to eat but I was nauseaus from looking at food all day. so now two days later when I want to eat everything im high high high…

btw everyone im having someone from omnipod come to my house to show me all about the pump and im very excited!!!!! shes coming in two weeks iyh. Do u think I shld also have someone from minimed come just so that I know what each one is about? the thing is that im basically hooked on omnipod in either case so maybe thats just a waste of time

Coffean- Oh I see…I would totally feel the same way! it’s noone business to figure out exactly why you have diabetes and how you can “get rid of it” yeah right! …Thats also a reason why im happy my friends dont know about my diabetes cuz they would always be looking at what I am eating and making comments and totally NOT UNDERSTANDING the whole concept! Ignorance it bliss but not when you’re the subject of other people’s ignorance!

cofeefan- Oy dont think like that..it may be true that to many people weight is everything but you dont want to marry such a person. The man you will marry will not want to marry a girl who’s a size 2 (and neither will his mother!) he’ll want to marry you for what YOU are, for your sensitivity, your kindheartedness, your maturity…. Always remember that, and dont forget that hashem knows exactly what you need in a husband and you will not get anything less than that. He takes care of all of us and wont make you wait even one extra minute for prince charming to come along and take you under his wing!! 🙂 May it be VERY VERY VERY soon to the right boy in the right time!!! Hang in there

    reb- AMEN!

Cofeefan- Sorry there’s no such thing as losing weight quickly 🙁 Even crash diets dont work for long so dont feel bad that you cant do them. The only way to really lose weight is to do it slowly and make it last. 45 minutes of exercise and three wholesome meals a day with 8 cups of water and absolutely no snacks (unless u go low- which of course always happens to me when Im on a diet!) works best for me!

Plain yogurt with fresh blueberries for breakfast

salad with a protein for lunch (small carb if you want)

Protein and lots of veggies for dinner.

Dont forget 8 cups of water!!

Dx3- i think with hypothyroid one of the major symptoms that someone will notice at first is weight gain because of a slowed down metabolism. Also hair loss and dry skin.

Btw everyone here seems to be very into the CGM. Is there something wrong with me that I dont want it? lol I think ill end up becoming obsessed with my numbers and will probably end up correcting for highs all day and then be low…

Thanks for clarifying coffefan cuz thats what I thought. You wear the pod on your legs? Does the PDM include a glucometer or do u need to have a seperate one?

dx3- Wow 14 yrs! Im only D for 3 years and everyone’s trying to convince me to make the switch!

I want to meet with my doc bec I never discussed the pump with her at all and she would probably have some good advice as to which pump would work best for me..I only me the D educator once and she doesnt really know me so I think the doc wld be the best person to speak to about it

    coffefan- thanks for the explanation!!

Forever1- I cant imagine that it could be easier to hide that big medtronic than a little pod. What if u wear a t-shirt dont u see the wiring or in a dress dont u see the pump bulging out?

    thanks Dx3 and cofeefan!!

cofeefan- like u mentioned i think that omnipod sounds the best as per the “secretive issue”. However, what do u mean by lots of occlusions? and what kind of “issues” have you had with it?

Also, did u use other pumps before- how would u compare the omnipod pros and cons?

    Thanks..sorry for the list of Q’s 🙂

    Rebbitzen- bh no

I’m starting to “consider” the pump..just considering no drastic steps here 🙂 What do you all suggest. Which one is the best? What is your experience with certain pumps?

Also, how long do you think it takes to get used to the pump? is it just a couple of weeks or more like months?

    Thanks

For me feeling low is worse! I think if I had to find the worst part about having D it would probably be the feeling of being low ….

When you say high do you mean like ketoacidic? or just regular high cuz that doesnt really feel like anything …maybe a bit airy headed or s/t

red-head: You’re right that marriage is all about growth etc. and we should strive to marry someone that we will be able to grow with..Maybe it was just the wording that cshapiro used..”Yeshivish” I think she meant more along the lines of “frum”…Yes! That makes sense!

cshapiro- just curious..If you give off a “modern impression” why do you think a guy that is more yeshivish than you will want a wife that is less yeshivish than him?? Unless he’s trying to veer to the left…and it doesnt sound like that’s the type of guy you’d want as a husband….

Rebbitzen- Not a very smart idea. Rabbi Meisels does not recommend it. The combined genetics make it more likely to have children with it too.

My brother in law also knew a really good guy that has type 1 but I wouldn’t want to do it at this point.

Cofeefan- Bh! It wasn’t as bad as i expected,..drum roll… it was 7.1. The doctor was like Great! under 7 is better but 7.1 is just fine..I guess i worried for nothing lol! The truth is that my last one was 6.9 and before that was 6.6 so Im gonna try very hard the next 3 months to bring it back down but im happy that she wasnt mad at me:) I also have this fear that iyh when I have to tell a boy about my D his parents will want to know my last A1c so I want it to be EXCELLENT not just very good!

Btw I logged in special to tell you how it went and I was touched when I saw that you asked! Thanks:)

Mosh3- I dont know much about beer but dry wines dont have a lot of sugar..maybe try that…Just curious, when you were drunk did you have a family member present to make sure you were okay? to remind you to check your sugars? My parents would be too scared to let me get drunk that’s for sure..but they dont have to worry cuz the most i can drink is girly bartenura 🙂

Mazal- Yes! Having diabetes is very difficult but that does mean that we cant see our lives, health, etc in a positive light. Everyone has a different way of dealing with nisyonos- my way (and apparently most others on this forum) is to see the good in it, learn from it, become more sensitive to other people, and get closer to hashem. Now, this does not mean that we dont know of the complications that can come along with diabetes chv’. It means that we choose to gain chizuk from eachother without worrying excessively about the future and dealing with the present.

I think you should read throught this entire forum especially the last 10 pages or so and you too will gain a lot of chizuk from reading it. I apologize if I came across against you strongly that was not my intention I was merely trying to assure rebbitzen and coffeefan that they shouldnt worry so much about what you wrote. (you shld just bear in mind that we are all in the shidduch scene and the last thing we want people to hear is that diabetes is horrible and we cant live normal lives. I hope you now understand why we feel so strongly about what you said.) Hatzlacha and I hope you and your husband share many happy and HEALTHY years together!

the.nurse- I am also in the health field and I see the way science and professors look at diabetes and you absolutely cannot compare textbooks to the “real stuff” I am glad u understand that 🙂 It helps to know that there are people out there like you!

Rebbitzen- I’m with you 100% on this one ..people just post without thinking of the ramifications of their words. Its too late now, one can never take back words…Just think of it as a lesson for life that words are not retractable and remember that if hashem wants someone to hear something they will hear or read it somehow but if not they will never read it even if they read every topic in the coffee room! Her post will not reach the wrong eyes dont worry! Hashem protects us!!!! Be strong!
