Princess- You know, two things just occured to me. Your trying so hard and still seeing so many HIGHS so either:

1)your ratio of carbs to insulin might just be misproportioned

    or

2)Maybe your not counting carbs properly?….

Do you think any of these make sense??

Hi everyone! Numbers have been okay bh! Not great but pretty good. Only one low a couple of highs…

Dx3- sitting in one place and driving 1000 miles is definitely not the greatest thing for blood sugars… You need to do a mile run every couple of hours or….maybe just try the car dance that should get you moving 🙂

Have a great Yom tov everyone!!

coffee- I read the other thread too..I have no words. Just keep davening and remember that Hashem is our father and he put you in a certain situation/position and he’s the only one that can help you through it. He always listens to your tefillos. The reason Hashem gives us nisyonos is so that we can come close to him through tefilla. Use your nisayon as a stepping stone to form a deep bond with HKBH and you’ll see a yeshuah! Just keep davening and talking to him..HE listens.

princess- oy I cant believe it that must have been hard being in the hosp all shabbos. I cant imagine having to beg for insulin lol but Im glad you now see insulin as a blessing 🙂 although I an sorry you had to learn it the hard way 🙁 Are you feeling better now?

cofee- your attitude about your foot is amazing keep it up! Cant wait till your back on your feet! 🙂 My articles are “Why is this night different” and “An avocado a day”

sweetooth- lol I cant either believe I am still making this decision..truth is that I didnt have so much time to think about it this week so I sort of put it on hold but the pump companies are driving me up a wall calling me every day to see if I made a decision yet! whatever! Im keeping them waiting…

princess- Hey howd you guess it was me? Thanks for the compliment 🙂 I didnt even get my copy yet im starting to wonder whether I paid membership or not lol! ..I see your logic about the insulin technically making you gain the weight but how do you want to have energy if everything you take in goes right out without being utilized in your body???? Just keep going your doing great!!!! :))) Im really proud of you and you should know that I daven for you every day!

cofee- maybe you didnt pay membership..glad to hear your managing with your foot but I still feel bad for you it must hurt a lot! try to rest up!

dx3- back to that! yes it would be a good idea for me and that explains why I still havent made my decision about the pump! They keep calling me from the pump companies and I dont have an answer for them yet.. Should I go for the medtronic with cgm and be all tubed up or the omnipod and a seperate cgm..????!!! OY!

Reb- When I do vigorous exercise that makes me go really low -which btw doesnt happen too often, I eat a meal before without covering for it or only covering for lets say half of it. This way I avoid the low and at the same time avoid having to eat an “extra” snack and offset the exercise. Try it say, after breakfast??!

princess- The fact that your saying that you tend to go higher in evenings is a good sign cuz it means your numbers are better if your noticing the high now! 🙂 KEEP IT UP! If you have a fear of using insulin it means your thinking of insulin as the enemy! Dont think that way. Insulin is a wonderful tool that can and WILL help you live a normal, healthy, and iyh long life. It is in no way an enemy- not even for weight gain! Weight gain is from food not from insulin! Please, please cover your carbs with appropriate insulin and I think that once you have your D under control you’ll feel much better about yourself and you’ll have an easier time losing weight :)))

dx3- I have heard of people getting headaches from artificial sweeteners…dont know much about it though.

princess- Yes you are correct that insulin is not really what makes you gain weight its the foods that are supposed to cause a rise in insulin that can potentialy cause weight gain. However, think about energy balance. In order to lose weight you have to use more energy that you are taking im- negative energy balance. This is the trick! Not taking insulin is only going to cause problems along with the weight loss and is TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT! I never even entertained that thought and PLEASE dont either its really a detrimental approach. I beg you not to!

I think im changing my motto to:

WE CAN DO IT! WE CAN DO IT! How does that sound since we’re all in this together ?

tralala- welcome back! We missed you here! I can feel for you for what your’ going through it must be so hard.. I sometimes feel the same about shidduchim…u have to have good A1cs while in shidduchim cuz ill havta give them to the other party and then once I get engaged its gotta be strict control till the wedd and then the kids Be’ezras hashem….Yup its b’h a never ending cycle for good things!! Keep tight (pum inteded 🙂 and you’ll see that hashem will help you because your showing him that you want to help yourself too!!

    Coffee- beautiful perspective!!

forever1- ur right about basing my decision on the present thanks! i guess i shouldnt count the chickens before they hatch.

I dont have a deadline by which to make my decision ..prob not such a good thing cuz ill think about it forever now !!

thanks everyone!!! I really really appreciate all of your input!! 🙂

cofee- she said that if i wear it on my leg it should be on the top/surface (dont know how to call it) part of my thigh. I liked it on the side…but its really not that noticeable on the surface of my thigh.. I was just playing around with the demo pod that I have and I realized that if I put it on my abdomen and I pull my tights over it it blends it and makes it hardly noticable!! I sound like such an inconsisten person here I keep changing my mind! lol

cofee- Amen! (about making the right choice)… Your always so helpful with decisions!!

so i was thinking about it all shabbos and im leaning toward the omnipod now cuz i like that you dont havta pull anything from hidden places like you do with the pumps in order to bolus or anything… What do you girls do when you want to bolus if you keep it in your tights??

about the CGM I cld get the dexcom but it wont be integrated..i decided its really no biggy cuz im prob not gonna use it that often anyway and besides they are gonna integrate it with the omni soon (i think when they make the pod smalller)

I also like that the pdm is a glucose monitor so ur only carrying one thing..

Basically my only hesitation is hiding the pod…kinda weird cuz initially what pulled me toward the pod was that i thought hiding it was easier than the rest!

wow cofee ur good!! thanks for asking! yup she came today she was really nice ..All the pumps sound good I dont know what to do now !!! HELP!!! I’m basically jugling between medtronic and omnipod.

I like that medtronic has integrated CGM and the features sound great..

I like that omni is wireless . .but becuase im smallish i dont have that many places to put it cuz either itll show or not enough flesh.. they are coming out with a smaller pod but not till end of the year …

Omni has a 45 day return policy…medtronic is 30 day. Maybe is should start out with omni and if i dont like it ill go with medtronic

    PLEASE HELP!!!!

cofee- cornflakes are pretty high on the glycemic index. They dont have a lot of fiber and not too much overall nutrtion. Kashi, bran flakes, shredded wheat ..are all much better options. The carb count of cornflakes is pretty low but so is the nutritional value.

Happens to be that my doc doesnt really like that I eat cereal for breakfast even though I eat very high fiber, healthy cereals. She says im better off eating 2 slices of ww bread. I dont listen to her cuz i dont have time for that in the morn but I really should..

Dx3- I meant that 120 should be her highest number. SHe should have great control! 🙂

cornflakes? c’mon what happened to Bran Flakes at least?

Princess- I can write but not poems on the spot.

Shabbos- Yes it could definitely get tough and from the time I was diagnosed until I saw a good number after friday night meal was probably like almost a year! The main carb is challah so try to weigh a slice before on a food scale that counts carbs. This way you have that accounted for properly. THe rest isnt really that carby (at least in my house)…and yeah, basically the real way to have excellent control is to stay away from too much nosh and cake. Of course you can have some but just dont overdo it. Maybe tell yourself before shabbos that you’ll have X amount and try to stick to your commitment! Let me know how it feels to have a “controlled” shabbos!!!:) like I say YOU CAN DO IT!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

cofeffan- btw you’re amazing yourself! What you wrote before was beautiful !!! what made you switch from the other pump to omni?

Also, if I do go with the animas or medtronic any ideas of where to hide it? (we totall discussed this a million times btw.sorry everyone)

sweetooth- You are too amazing for me! I wish I could have such an A1c..my last one was 7.1 but its usually in the 6’s. We’re you using Neesha at Maimo? Im using kazachkova starting to get annoyed with her so I want to find an adult endo soon..

PrincessEagle- I didnt go to the shabbatons cuz I keep my D secret and I only got it when I was 18 and soon to be in shidduchim so I just never went… Bh I discovered this support group..dont know what I’d do without it.

about me being this way in real life, I’m pretty much the same but I dont express myself so much in real life..I’d probably have a hard time saying all the things I say here in person. That’s why I like this place so much :)))

cofeefan- I just brought it up out of the blue pretty much..well not totally cuz we had discussed why I am going for the degree that I am going for (in health field) and I sort of gave a vague answer “just cuz i like it”- same answer I give everyone else..So I said remember you asked me why im becoming a ___ well now I have to tell you the real reason…and then I told him…and the story of how, when, what, where was just for interest sake..He didnt ask to many questions I think he didnt want to pry cuz he was afraid I didnt want to talk about it.

About the black dots- mine arent really noticeable. Maybe you should lower the lancing number. I do it on #2.

princessEagle- glad my attitude is rubbing off 🙂 I still say the tehillim I dont know if the others do. .. Its perakim 20 and 130. (sorry dont know how to write hebrew letters)

I really wish you would take control of yourself again princessEagle. Diabetes is not easy but its also something that b’h today we are able to control. Hashem gave us the means to control the disease and we have to do our best at using those tools to keep healthy.

I also have those moments when I feel like giving up but I tell myself that for every fingerstick and every injection that I do I get a mitzva of “vnishmartem me’od l’nafshoseichem.” This really keeps me going because I feel like I have an extra mitzva that other “healthy” people dont have. Think about it…and Try it!

On the humorous side of things think of it like this: Aside from just being an ordinary human being you’re also a walking talking pancreas!!! Now that is COOL! 🙂

Rebbitzen- Yay!! I am so excited for you!! Please don’t be nervous it’ll all work out iyh. This is what I do (I think i said this once before but dont mind me if i repeat myself)

Firstly, I eat a supper that I know the exact amount of carbs-not one of those guess and test type.

I dont cover for the whole supper but almost all of it this way Im a little bit high so I dont have to worry about going low. Of course I always feel low before I leave the house becuase Im nervous but I know that its not a real low.

I’ve done it quite a few times and it worked out well every time bh! Try it! And may this be the right one iyh and it should go smoothly and clearly!!

Someone once told me, “If its the right one it should go quick and if its the wrong one ch’v it should go quicker!”

And btw for all of you out there that are nervous about telling a boy about your D dont worry so much its not that bad. Not that its easy but … I did it once on a forth date and the boy was totally shocked he almost didnt believe me lol He did not say no because of it. Actually him and his mother/fam said it was a reason to say yes not no! In the end it didnt work out for other reasons but it was all bashert and I got my practice so next time around I’ll really know what to say.

princessEagle- I dont generally write, except for college ..essay type stuff. The articles I wrote for FWD arent THAT great. Theyre not personal, inspirational type theyre pretty factual and some tips and advice … I dont like the first one but the second one is pretty good I think. I think its coming out in like 2 weeks or something.

So, why do you find yourself slacking with ur numbers is it because your burnt out? were you always like this? are you going through a hard time? etc (dont havta answer if its personal!)

SO I did and then they asked me to do another one they gave me the topic and a lot of the research for it and I put it together.. They’re both in the newsletter he showed me a preview 🙂

What did you write in there cuz i save all the newsletters 🙂

I never heard of an insurance wanting to take away the pump becuase someone is not in good control. That’s usually the reason they give it to begin with!
