LOL! – You are correct! – Hence my mention for needing a new exhaust system!
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantIf ‘yeshivish’ is referring to a car, it means the car is at least 14 years old, is likely a station wagon, has lots of scrapes and dings in the body, old camp (or summer trip related) bumper stickers on the back, and probably in serious need of a new exhaust system.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantI think it would be safe to sum it up like this…
Most towns probably had just one or maybe two shuls.
Most towns probably had just one or maybe two yeshivas.
Most people probably had much less and worked much harder than most people do today.
Most people were probably still much happier than most people are today.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantGreat camp. Based in great frum neighborhood of Shaarai Chesed in Yerushalayim.

Ya’asher Ko’ach!!! You have done MORE than your part in defending the honor of the great gaon and tzadik HaRav Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook ztz”l.
Sadly, I think your words are falling on deaf ears.
I’m sure you have heard the expression “throwing out the baby with the bath water”. I think it applies here.
Many of the commenters here are so full of venom for the chailek of Zionists that were/are ANTI-frum (and sadly, there IS a chailek like that) that their sinah carries over to anyTHING or anyONE relating to Zionism or Zionists.
Rav Kook’s brilliantly broad vision of what Yiddishkeit is, i.e. his understanding of the integral part that our Land and nation plays in our Jewish identity, and the role that even the secular Jews were playing in rebuilding our Land, is something beyond the comprehension of those whose Yiddishkeit is completely devoid of the national component. A component created all the way back when HaSh-m said to Avraham Avinu “Lech Lecha”.
Even those of us who, for some good reason, can’t live in Eretz Yisrael right now, should be wishing and aspiring to do so as soon as possible. It is one thing to feel that we have to wait for Mashiach to have a true Jewish state, it is another thing to be totally content with, and actually PREFER to be sitting in Monsey or Williamsburg (until Mashiach arrives) when one COULD be living in Eretz Yisrael if he just chose to do so.
I am saving your last comment (the letter) for future reference.

You are quite right, however when dealing with young kids they have to have fun too. You want them to have great memories of their trip so they’ll want to go back when they’re a bit older when they will hopefully have a greater ability to be machsheev the kedusha.
I would be happy if we could just get more ADULTS to appreciate what you said.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantBe sure to see…
The Southern Wall excavations – there are tours with an indoor video presentation. Seeing this makes the Kotel 100 times more meaningful.
Ir David… Just outside Shaar Ha’Ashpa’ot (Dung Gate – where taxis coming to the Kotel leave from) Amazing new discoveries there from the time of David HaMelech – and if the weather isn’t too cold you can walk throught Chezkiyahu’s Water tunnel (about a 20 minute walk with a flashlight thru water up to your knees)- the kids will love it!
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantDoes anyone here know who was the mesader kiddushin for HaRav Shlomo Zalman Aurbach ztz”l?
Look it up.
I’ll give you a hint.
His last name starts with a ?.

You wrote “unless you claim to be a prophet, there is no way for you to predict it will “hit the fan” any less inside the State. It could even hit much worse inside.”
Really?
Can you refresh my memory please.
Where was it talking about when the pasuk speaks about HaSh-m’s eyes being on SOMEWHERE…
?????? ???? ?? ????? ????
Was it Lakewood or Monsey?
(If you know your history, you may recall that EVEN during the Holocaust, Eretz Yisrael was spared.)
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantWhen it “hits the fan” here in the “medina shel chesed” as r’l I’m afraid it is soon going to do, I’m sure none of you pseudo-Satmers will run to the “traif Tziyoni medina” but would prefer to go down with the ship of galus right here.
Will your quotes mentioned above, maligning a great tzadik (that not one person commenting here can measure up to the soles of his feet) – will they give you some measure of comfort for your decision to live in Amerika when you had the opportunity, had you taken it, to live in Eretz Yisrael. I am well aware of the problems in Eretz Yisrael, much MORE aware than most of you, but they are OUR, the Jewish People’s, problems. Is living in Amerika problem-free for Yidden that you prefer to live in a foreign land than your own? I don’t want anyone’s answers. Save them to tell HaSh-m. See if He buys any of them.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantOf course I would LIKE to believe it, but I have doubts.
What could remove those doubts would be if the autistic person communicated with the assistance of someone they don’t know, i.e. someone who does not know THEM – especially if the facilitator isn’t frum.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipant(I can’t believe this thread is still going on.)
I’ll just say this…
While I think Herzl was a terrible Jew, and it pains me when see streets and even a city(!) named for him in Eretz Yisrael, I don’t think he was really a rasha. As warped as his hashkafas were, his intentions were not to harm the Jewish People but to help the Jewish People. Yes, I know the expression “the road to gehenom is paved with ‘good intentions'”, and I agree that in Herzl’s case for sure, this expression is correct. One has only to look at what became of his children to see how wrong he was (about many things). Nevertheless, as others have said, he was a tinok she’nishba, not a rasha.
HaRav Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook ztz”l was a gaon and a tzadik who does not need me (or anyone else) to defend him.
Lehavdil elef havdalos, – when someone listens to music by Mozart and says “eh, that really stunk!” that person is not making a statement about Mozart, he’s making a statement about his own understanding of music.

Hmmm… “black and white and yellow all over”?
My guess was going to be a pseudo-chareidi in Beit Shemesh!
Black and white because of their clothing, of course.
Yellow, because they are so ‘brave’ attacking little girls and solitary women.
Someday (probably soon) they will attack a girl or woman who, though they didn’t realize it, has her brother/s or husband or boyfriend or father nearby. Then they will find out what it feels like to have teeth extracted without any novacaine!!!
Then THEY will WISH the “nazi” police were nearby to save them, but the only sirens they will hear will be those of the ambulances taking them to the hospital.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantDon’t just talk. Ask the other person about themselves. What do they do? What are their interests? What do they hope to do in the future? What is important to them?
Some girls may be very shy, but not all are. Get them started talking about what interests THEM and they may not ever stop.

Likewise, though Yigal Amir probably did pull the trigger on Rabin, I do believe that it was a major set-up by left-wing big machers (I wont mention a name -you figure it out) to paint the entire right wing in a bad way before the up-coming election. The plan succeeded half way. The whole right wing WAS badly slandered, but Netanyahu still won.

January 18, 2012 6:38 pm at 6:38 pm in reply to: Diet Pills From Brazil Being Sold In Brooklyn #942339AinOhdMilvadoParticipantBeing that I need to lose weight myself, I do realize that it IS easier said than done, BUT…
The only healthy way to lose weight is to burn up more calories than you take in.
Think of it like the gas tank on your car. Imagine the tank was made of a material that could expand (like rubber). If you put in ten gallons of gas every week, but only drive enough to burn up 5 gallons, the tank will swell, the next week it will swell more, etc., etc. – and eventually the tank will be dragging on the ground under the car.
You don’t have to join a gym. Every morning (or every evening) take a walk. Walk for 20 minutes away from your home, then turn around and walk the 20 minutes back, for a 40 minute total.
I guarantee that if you do that FOUR times per week (or more), in one month you will notice a substantial weight loss. The walking not only burns calories, but even more importantly, it gets your metabolism ‘revving in a higher gear’ and staying in that higher gear to burn more calories even when you are not walking.
All the drugs and other gimmicks MAY work short term (assuming they don’t kill you) but you WILL gain the weight right back again.

If your post is serious, I have to ask you one question?
Have you totally lost your mind?!?
You don’t know who makes it.
You don’t know what’s in it.
You don’t know if it’s kosher.
You don’t know if it could have serious side effects.
BUT – you’re taking it???
If you have really been doing this, I would get to a doctor for some blood tests. FAST.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantHealth…
I’m sure you will be happy to hear that this is my final comment on this subject.
It is simply this…
I know you think that you are a very holy Yid and that your kedusha is enhanced by your hatred of Tziyonim. First of all, many Tziyonim are shomrai Torah and mitzvot and tremendous yirai shamayim. I have given my definition of Zionism on another thread many weeks ago so I won’t go into it here at length. Suffice it to say that for me, and most frum Zionists, Zionism is simply the national component of Yiddishkeit. HaSh-m gave us a Torah that relates to every part and aspect of our life. One of those aspects is the national, geographic, aspect, and that means that every Jew (if they can’t for some very good reason, LIVE in Eretz Yisrael) should, at the very least, ASPIRE to live in Eretz Yisrael. The fact that there are, sadly, many non-frum, and even anti-frum Zionists, does not change one iota the national component of authentic Torah Judaism.
I truly feel sorry for you because there is an entire dimension of Yiddishkeit that you are not aware of. If you are honest with yourself, though you may say you want mashiach to come, and perhaps even mean it, – even AFTER mashiach comes, you would be totally content to spend the rest of your life here in America.
Just as a person who was totally blind from birth can have no appreciation or understanding of colors, you (and many others) despite all your Torah education, have no understanding of the national component of Judaism. This is truly tragic, and truly saddens me. I know I have not succeeded in enlightening you, but I do hope that you will encounter someone, BEFORE mashiach’s imminent arrival, who WILL enlighten you to the fact that Jewish life in galus, regardless of how frum you are, is missing a major dimension. I also hope you will work on eliminating the sinah you have for other Jews who do not think like you do. – Hatzlacha.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantHealth…
“If you don’t know -paying for a service is called business and you are allowed to do business even with Goyim – even if the Goyim created the infrastructure.”
I agree one can do business with goyim, but YOU seem to feel that Tziyonim are WORSE than goyim, that they are the enemies of Torah Jews. If you feel they are SO detestable, and your numerous comments indicate that you DO, you should NOT do business with them any more than you would do business with skinheads or klansmen (who are obviously also worse than stam goyim). Therefore, you should not put yourself in a position (by being in Eretz Yisrael) of having to use the services of the Tziyonim whether you pay for it or not. That goes for EVERYTHING, from the control tower Tziyonim at the airport that enable your plane to land, to the roads you use to get places, to all the other items I mentioned above, not the least of which is the IDF which allows you to stay alive with your throat un-slit. (Certainly you don’t think YOU have greater zechusim for divine protection than the yeshiva students in Chevron in 1929!?!)
You wrote: “I agree; but where is this Sinah eminating from?????”
Look in the mirror.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantRaphael Kaufman…
Your correction of Health’s mashul is exactly correct.
A wagon driver who can get the person across WITHOUT a wagon and horse equates to a nais niglah (i.e. HaSh-m acting without our doing anything b’derech ha’teva, without our hishtadlus – i.e. without the IDF), which is not supposed to be expected.
Of course the wagon and horse ALONE (equating to the IDF ALONE in this mashul) won’t work either (without the driver.)
SO… the bottom line is, that we have to do our hishtadlus (i.e. have a strong IDF) and THEN, with the help of HKB”H we CAN be zocheh to a nais nistar.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantHealth…
Your ideas would not be at all HEALTHy for the Jews of Eretz Yisrael, frum or frei.
Yes, my tzadik, of course HaSh-m can protect us, but that is when we have the zechusim for the neesim g’luyim that would be required to survive without an IDF. Perhaps you think the frum HAVE those zechusim but the frei don’t (so THEY need the IDF?)
Perhaps you remember the little incident of the Chevron massacre, where dozens of FRUM Jews were slaughtered by the yishmaeli savages BEFORE there was a Tziyoni state, slaughtered as they sat learning in the beis medrash!!!
Yes tzadik, HaSh-m protects us, BUT to count on that protection alone, in today’s Middle East, would be to be somaiych al ha’nais, which of course we are NOT supposed to do. Therefore, as I said above, in today’s pre-mashiach world, EVERY Jew in Eretz Yisrael needs the IDF if he/she wants to be able to wake up in the morning.
By the way, the fact that people are paying water and electricity bills does not change the fact they are USING the infrastructure of the ZIONIST state. If I hated the state, I would NOT want to be USING them EVEN if (or especially if) I was paying them.
And by the way, where did YOU learn to be calling people you don’t know at all “krum”?!? I suppose anyone who does not agree with “R’ Health” is “krum”.
Asarah b’Teves and so much sinas chinam – very sad.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantYou all have to remember that we are actually talking about only 50 or 60 of these thugs.
They do not need their own town – unless you want to consider a section of a prison as their own town.
It is a terrible pity that all chareidim are being smeared because of a small group of nuts.
What is the saddest part is that RELIGIOUS KIDS, can’t differentiate between the average, normal chareidi and this group of meshuga’im, (because they dress the same) and it is causing these frum kids to think ALL chareidim are scary and crazy.
What a terrible chilul HaSh-m!!!
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantchavalman…
Regardless of your points, (which ARE true) the fact remains that in todays’s world, (without mashiach being here) without the IDF, every Jew, Chareidi and frei, would be exterminated.
Thus the very lives of the anti-Zionist chareidim are dependent on the existence of a Jewish army. If they don’t want to join the IDF, they have that choice, but a little hakaras hatov for being able to wake up in the morning (to protest the ‘medina’) is still an obligation.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantI will not comment DIRECTLY on Rav Elyashiv’s ALLEGED staement.
I will just say this…
In my humble opinion, if someone is really and truly so anti-Zionist, they should not use anything from the ‘terrible’ Tziyonim”.
When I say ANYTHING, I mean the majority of the country’s infrastructure, i.e. highways, electical system, water system, phone system, etc.
Most certainly they should NOT make use of the I.D.F. which they so malign and detest. What do I mean by “make use of the I.D.F.”? Simply, they should not BE in Eretz Yisrael. Why not? For the simple reason, that since Mashiach has not yet arrived, the fact is that without the I.D.F. EVERY JEW in Eretz Yisrael from the most secular to the most ‘ultra-chareidi’ would be slaughtered by the yishmaelim! Thus, just to be ALIVE one is making use of the Tziyoni I.D.F.
Of course, this is just my personal opinion, – I would not want to get ‘ha’na’ah’ from someone I detest. If one now lives in (PRE-Mashiach)Eretz Yisrael, they ARE, de-facto, getting benefit from the I.D.F.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantIn Beit Shemesh there are about 30 thugs who just hang out outside this girls school just waiting to curse at (or worse) any females going in or out.
The police should put up barricades maybe 100 feet from the school and not let these bums get any closer than that.
Anyone that DOES do anything physical (like spitting, or worse) should be arrested and charged with assault.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantYou can get a very decent hat that is not a Borsalino for at least a third cheaper.
It is a combination of the maturity of the kid, the wealth of the parent, and what message you want to teach your son that will determine what to buy.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantThe majority of the chareidim are good, decent yirai shamayim, but they are afraid to speak out against these bums for fear of physical retribution.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantWIY: Your comment “I haven’t even had a donut yet this Chanukah!” reminds me of an old joke…
A schnorrer knocks on the door of a Yid, and a nice Yiddische mama answers the door.
“Yes?” she says.
“Lady, I haven’t eaten a thing in three days.”
“Oh my” she replies, “You should force yourself!”
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantalways runs with scissors fast…
You clearly do NOT know the situation. This is NOT “their” neighborhood. It is in an area on the ‘border’ between ‘their’ area and ‘Torani l’eumi’ neighborhood, AND this building was ALWAYS planned as a school for these girls and NOT theirs AND these girls are dressed as totally tzniyusdik as the girls in ANY Brooklyn yeshiva. These guys are thugs and punks and if they keep it up it’s just a matter of time until some parent loses their temper and re-arranges the face of one of these guys.
What would YOU do if YOUR little daughter got spit on or had a rock thrown at her?!?! They ARE a fairly small group that are making a bad name for ALL chareidim.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantSufganiyot are clearly a manifestation of the Yetzer Ha’ra!
Personally, when it comes to sufganiyot, especially the caramel ones, I have my own technique to confuse the satan, – which is to just give in immediately.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantIt is really disgraceful that many have found this subject humorous, and something to joke about.
I saw this on the news this morning, and it is absolutely heartbreaking. Goyim or not, my heart goes out to these poor parents for the terrible experience they are going through.
A birth defect, especially one as horrific as this, should arouse our compassion, and not jokes.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantIn the Gemara, j-boy is referred to as ‘yeshu’ – ??”? – (as roshei taivos for YEmach SH’mo U’zichro.)
Contrary to what xtians would have us believe, his name was NOT ‘yeshua’ (meaning salvation) because the shoresh (root) letters for that word include an ‘AYIN’ – ? – and there is no ayin in ‘yeshu’.
Chazal were successful in being mocheh his name ad k’day kach, that people think ‘yeshu’ WAS his name.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantThis does not require a coffee room thread.
The answer is obvious.
It’s what’s called in Israel – ???? ??? or in America – caramel.
Sorry, but there’s nothing further to say on the subject!
!!!?? ???
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantThere is nothing really wrong with saying ‘christ’ – it is just the Greek word for mashiach.
(One could therefore translate ‘christians’ as ‘mashichists’.)
There is something VERY wrong with saying the name ‘j’ before it, since THAT would be saying that ‘j’ is the chr…
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantChuck Norris jokes???
Chuck Norris is a (real) high level black belt in karate and made several martial arts related movies and TV shows.
He is also known to have very straight, kosher (for a goy, of course) conservative, patriotic hashkafas.
How did he come to be the topic of jokes?
What IS a Chuck Norris joke?
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantKen Zayn…
And the P.E.T.A organization supports the right to arm bears!
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantkfb –
we’re looking for FUNNY stuff, not tragic stuff.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantHerman Cain was his biggest threat BY FAR, because HE would have divided the black vote, which NOW Obama has in his pocket. I was a Cain supporter for just that reason, i.e. NOT that I thought he was so great, but a black Republican would have been the ONLY one who could beat Obama (and THAT must be the prime objective!)
That’s why Obama’s people dug up all that dirt (and who even knows how much of it was true) on Cain and forced him out.
Other than Cain, I think all the others are about equal in how much of a threat they are to the messiah, ooops, I mean to Obama.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantkfb…
Bats are great if you’re going to a ball game, and yes, they CAN be used for self defense, BUT with all the home invasions these days, a firearm is the way to go.
yungerman1…
R’ Kahane made up the slogan “every Jew a 22”, but if you search on google, you’ll find that he also (really) said “I would have said every Jew a 9 millimeter, but it didn’t rhyme!”
zahavasdad…
While you are correct that it IS almost impossible to get a carry permit in NYC, you CAN get a premises (i.e. home) or a business permit for a handgun. Also, though it takes a little time, it is also quite easy to get a rifle/shotgun permit, which can really ruin any home invader’s day. Of course possessing a firearm does demand maturity, and learning how to safely use it and store it. A small price to pay to be able to defend your home and family.
As the saying goes…
“When danger is seconds away, the police are only minutes away.”
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantIn theory, it’s a good idea,
but, unfortunately we no longer have Rav Kahane ztzvk”l, or anyone with his charisma and ‘smarts’ to run it. Others have tried, after he was murdered, but none succeeded. Even his son Binyamin ztzvk”l, who, before his murder, tried to take over for his father, was not successful.
So…
What to do?
Aliyah. Yes, I know very well about Israel’s many faults and problems, but aliyah is STILL the best choice for us.
Not making aliyah? Get a gun permit, get a gun, and learn how to use it.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantoomis1105…
I too am a big fan of Simon and Garfunkel.
Little known (or remembered) fact…
In the 60s and 70s there was an Israeli duo called The Parvarim (the ‘Suburbans’). They made an entire album (which I still have) of Simon and Garfunkel songs in HEBREW! It’s awesome. You would think it was really Simon and Garfunkel singing in Hebrew. It included famous hits like ‘Tzleelei HaSheket’ (Sounds of Silence), ‘Im Panecha Hayom La’yerid’ (Scarborough Fair) and many others.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantapushatayid…
Not only is “Cats in the Cradle” a great song, it’s a real mussar vort!
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantbtw…
Just curious…
On HaSh-m’s score card, does one get more points for a black hat than a gray hat?
More for a gray hat than a dark navy hat?
More for a black felt (borsalino-type) hat than a black straw hat?
And…
What about a black straw hat vs. a gray felt hat?
Also what about wearing a large black velvet yarmulka but being clean-shaven? How does that stack up point-wise against a large kipa seruga AND a full beard?
It really gets quite complicated.
Someone should really write an article to clarify these points.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantWhen should one buy his black hat?
Isn’t it obvious?
On Black Friday!!!
