I agree that…
“its not a matter of revenge
its a matter of abhorrence and disgust that cant be put into words
its a matter of remembrance
its a matter of respect for our alter bubbies and zadies”
BUT…
It’s ALSO a matter that SOME of those alte nazis, yemach shemam, ARE still involved in running big german companies. Not many, but some.
Also, as we saw from the article in today’s YWN even (at least some)younger germans are still wannabee nazis. The one in the article today is 36 years old and has a swastika tattoo!
So we see that it is not all “ancient history”.
It IS true that almost EVERY European country did or still does persecute us, but as one comment above mentioned, the germans went “above and beyond” ALL our historic tormentors in their cruelty, brutality, inhuman savagery and the vast scope of their barbarity.
Aside from 6,000,000 Jewish lives lost that we all know about, the serious intense trickle down psychological damage to survivors and their children and grandchildren and great grandchildren continues today, and will continue for at least a few more generations.
I don’t tell anyone else what to do, but I for one will not contribute even one penny to their economy.

Not to go off topic, but your comment reminds me of an old joke…
One cold winter night in the 1960’s a Yid living in Moscow hears banging on his door at 3 o’clock in the morning.
He grabs on a robe and asks who it is.
“It’s the mailman” comes the gruff reply.
When he opens the door two agents of the KGB (secret police) push their way in.
“So, Goldshteyn, we hear you’ve applied for an exit visa to Israel, is that right?”
“Yes, that’s true.”
“But why? Don’ you have enough to eat here?”
“Yes, I guess so.”
“And didn’t you get a decent Soviet education here?”
“Yes, I suppose so.”
“And don’t you have a roof over your head?”
“Yes, I do.”
“So then Goldshteyn, why would you want to leave mother Russia?”
“Well, I guess it’s because I don’t like mailmen banging on my door at at 3 o’clock in the morning!”
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantHowever excellent your reasons for quitting may be, as another person wrote, do NOT quit unless you have already found another job (unless you’ve won the MEGA lottery!) It is ALWAYS easier to find a new job when you HAVE one than when you are unemployed.
**ALSO – do not be surprised if they do not want your 2 week notice and ask you to leave immediately. This is not (necessarily) out of meanness or spite. Often employers are afraid that if you are leaving, you may use your two weeks to sabotage their systems, steal information for your next employer, or at the very least, just goof off.

You dismissed the current article on YWN that I mentioned as just one example of why we should pray for our Jewish soldiers in Eretz Yisrael.
So let me ask you this…
What if, in the case of what happened in this article, (where the bomb squad dis-armed a bomb in a chareidi neighborhood)- What IF the IDF had said, NO we don’t service that neighborhood. They are anti-Zionist, and furthermore they have their mitzvos, their learning and praying to protect them. They don’t want us, they don’t like us, they don’t NEED us! We’re not going.
So what would you have said then? I would suppose you would have said that the IDF HAD to go there because it is the Zionists fault that the yishmaelim placed a bomb.
And I would say to you, that IF that is what you would say, then I would suggest that regardless of the cause, if the chareidim HAVE TO depend on the Zionist IDF to protect them, then maybe they they should not be living in a makom sakana where they do have to depend on the Zionists to save them. Maybe they should move to Brooklyn, or Monsey. Perhaps you might even agree with that. But the bottom line is that chareidim ARE living in Eretz Yisrael, and our Jewish boys in uniform ARE risking their lives to protect them, and the very least we can do is to mispalel for their welfare.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantHelpful…
“Goyim aren’t attempting suicide bombs against yidden in Toronto or Milwaukee. Only in Israel.”
Really???
Did you not hear just this past week about the bombs intended for shuls in Chicago?
Did you not hear about the conviction of the attempted bombers of the Jewish Center in Riverdale???
Did ever occur to you that the secular Zionist movement came into being largely BECAUSE OF the anti-Semitism all over the world. It was THAT that came FIRST! It was THAT that made Jews, even secular Jews want to go HOME to OUR own Land. You’ve got it backwards! Read Jewish history.
EDITED
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantTo all who oppose a tefila (not for the state, but…) for the boys defending and putting their LIVES on the line for EVEN the anti-Zionists, this is a headline story on YWN – RIGHT NOW…
Confirmed Explosive Device Found In Yerushalayim
(Friday, November 5th, 2010)
Sources tell YWN, that the bomb squad in Yerushalayim is confirming a suspicious device to be explosive.
YWN Israel has learned that police do not believe it is terror-related, but rather criminal. In any event, police have launched an investigation, but most importantly, the device was defused before exploding.
Zionist, non-Zionist, anti-Zionist.. anyone who has a problem davening for the boys (in this case in the bomb squad) who on a daily basis save Jewish lives by risking their own… what can I say… I just don’t know how all your ‘raiyas’ are going to hold up when you get to the Beis Din Shel Ma’alah.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantGranted that for many people stopping smoking is hard, – VERY hard, – EXTREMELY hard.
Question: If, chalila, you had a very sick child, and it was going to be extremely, extremely hard to get him or her the medical care they needed to save their life, would you say “Oh forget it, it’s just way too hard!” – OR would no effort be too great for you to make to overcome the obstacles to get your child that refuah?
Quitting smoking is VERY hard for you – I DO believe you.
BUT – You say you love your family? Then DO IT ANYWAY!!!
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantBenTorah: You wrote, quoting Rav Hirsch zatz”l…
“Our Sages say G-d imposed three vows when he sent Israel into the wilderness: (1) that the children of Israel shall never seek to reestablish their nation BY THEMSELVES; (2) that they never be disloyal to the nations which have given them shelter; (3) that these nations shall not oppress them excessively (Kesubos 111a).”
In case the response to the Rov’s comments are not obvious, and apparently they are not…
1) Jews did NOT re-establish a Jewish State “by themselves”. There was the British “Balfour declaration” AND more significantly a WORLD body, i.e. the United Nations (which, derech agav, never did anything else worthwhile since it came into existence) declared the right for a Jewish State in Eretz Yisrael. SO, – it was NOT done BY THEMSELVES.
2) The creation of the Jewish State was NOT done through disloyalty to foreign states where Jews live/d. And…
3) Prior to the establishment of the state, there was the little issue of something called “THE HOLOCAUST”, which by any reasonable person’s definition clearly constitutes oppressing the Jewish People “EXCESSIVELY”.
Thus, all three of the obstacles mentioned, that would prevent re-constituting a Jewish state, have been eliminated.
It is clear that Israel is NOT the Torah state it should (and someday soon iy”H) WILL be, BUT -anyone who can not see the yad HaSh-m both in the birth of the state (especially just a few years after the Holocaust), and in its continued existence in the midst of a sea of blood-thirsty Pereh-adam yishmaelim, has to be blind.

I don’t know how old you are, but I would suggest speaking to your father in the following way (as applicable, of course)…
-Dad, I know you’ve been smoking for a long time. I know you enjoy your smokes, and I know it’s really hard for you to quit, but you DO know what the consequences will be, there’s no denying or escaping the facts. Dad, I need you around. I will be devastated if you get sick, I will be lost if you die. I need you here for my chasna, please don’t make me stand under the chupa without you there by my side. I need you here to be a zaideh to my children. I don’t want you to be someone they only hear about from the past, someone whose picture they see in an album, – I want you to be part of their lives. I want them to know you. I want you to know them. PLEASE don’t put smoking ahead of us. PLEASE don’t wait until it’s too late.
“adorable” – MY grandfather was a smoker. He died of lung cancer when he was 54 years old. I was only 4 months old at the time, and I never got to know him.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantTo: Good Jew…
You wrote… “The ones that get angry are the ones that want to smoke themselves, and are jealous of those that do”
Do you really believe that?!?
You could NOT be further from the truth!
The ones that get angry MAY be angry if you are polluting the air THEY are breathing, but MANY, like ME, get angry for the same reason I would be angry if I saw a Jew shooting up heroine or smoking crack, i.e. because you are MURDERING a Jew (even if it’s yourself).
You are voluntarily doing exactly the same thing to yourself that the nazis and the yishmaelim, yimach shemam, did (and do) to Jews!
If some arab was attacking you with a knife, I’m sure you would want someone to grab that knife out of his hand. Well, the knife is in YOUR hand, – yet if someone pulled that cancer stick from your hand you would react angrily, wouldn’t you?
Do you really think you will be the one in a million who smokes and doesn’t get a deadly disease from it?
Or… is your life so horrible that you WANT to die?
Or, is your taiyva just more important to you than your family members whose lives will be destroyed when one day some doctor gives you the news that you’ve got the machla and it’s too late to do anything about it?
Will you still think smoking is “cool” when you’re gaunt and pale and lying in a hospital bed hooked up to I.V. lines and wheezing on your oxygen tube?
I know… quitting is so hard. Seeing your family watch you die is even harder.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantIn Pirkei Avos it teaches…
Aizeh hu chacham – Ha’roeh es ha’nolad.
It is a well known, undisputed, highly publicized fact what the results of smoking are:
Heart disease, Lung cancer, emphysema, oral cancers, and more horrific life-ending diseases.
These are not speculation. These are “ha’nolad”, – the indisputable results of smoking.
So… if the “nolad” is known and clear for everyone to “roeh”, to see, anyone with any chachma at all, would stay far away from smoking.
Anyone who does NOT, is not only the opposite of a chacham, but has apparently decided that his taiyveh for smoking is MORE important to him than his being around for his children’s weddings or the birth of his grandchildren.
Life is dangerous enough from things that are beyond our control, so to be as blunt as can be…
Anyone who smokes is a SELFISH FOOL.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantMake it for breakfast pretty much the same as you would make oatmeal. Boil a pot of water, put in the quinoa, keep on low heat to let it simmer (i.e. a low boil) for 10-15 minutes, and drain off any excess (unabsorbed) water.
Then you can add a little sugar (or splenda) and sliced banana, blueberries, or whatever fruit you like! YUMMY!
November 2, 2010 3:12 pm at 3:12 pm in reply to: What do you do about the glare when driving? #706064AinOhdMilvadoParticipantVERY Important! Buy a pair of POLARIZED sun glasses!
There is truly a difference. Polarized is NOT a brand or trade name. It is a real difference in the type of lens.
Want to prove it? Go to place that sells sun glasses and hold up TWO pairs of Polarized glasses. Put one in front of the other as you look through them, and then turn ONE pair 90 degrees. You will see that it totally blacks out. Regular sun glasses will NOT do this, even the most expensive ones.
This makes a HUGE difference in relief from glare and the eye fatigue it causes.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantarc…
Its definitely not chametz because it is not one of the five grains.
Whether or not rabanim might put it in the category of kitniyos, I don’t know. L’fi aniyas da’ati I would think not. I’ve read that botanically its in the same category as spinach.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantTo: ronrsr and arc…
I think quinoa smells a little bit like corn on the cob.
In any case it does not have too much tastE on it’s own (just like couscous or rice), BUT you can flavor it as you like… i.e. salt, pepper, garlic powder, and/or sauteed onions give it great flavor.
You can eat it as a breakfast cereal and add some cinnamon and the fruit of your choice (I like blueberries).
As ronrsr said, it is very nutritious, and has a very low glycemic index, meaning the carbs/sugar/energy enter your system VERY slowly making it good for diabetics and a great food for before a fast!!!
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantAlthough I am at least as opposed to the anti-Jewish Israeli government as anyone here, Zionism is born out of HaSh-m’s promise to Avraham Avinu that Eretz Yisrael belongs to Am Yisrael FOREVER.
The fact that chilonim have chapped the nationalistic chaylek of Yiddishkeit, i.e. “Zionism”, and abandoned the more important spiritual/halachic chaylek is, of course, a terrible tragedy. BUT, it does not negate the fact that we ARE a NATION, and we DO have a NATIONAL HOMELAND given to us by the same HaSh-m and the same Torah that gave us all our other mitzvos.
Yes, because of our avairos we were put in galus.
BUT, when Jews have the ability to return home to Eretz Yisrael (as we do now) for us to remain outside E.Y. BY CHOICE is “a slap in the face” to HKB”H.
All the anti-Zionist arguments I’ve heard here are just excuses to stay here in galus because people are too comfortable here.
OK, so you don’t accept the present Israeli government as legitimate. Fine! So live in E.Y. -as so many chareidim do, WITHOUT recognizing the government.
I know… Israel is galus too – I’ve heard that a million times.
So if Israel is just like Brooklyn and Monsey, why do you visit there? Why do you send your children to learn there?
Does eretz brooklyn have the same kedusha of the “galus” of Eretz Yisrael?
No one has to bother answering me, because just as I haven’t convinced you of anything, you wont convince me either.
And that doesn’t even matter.
What WILL matter at 120, is the booshah you will feel to offer the flimsy excuses you have in front of HKB”H when He asks why you didn’t live in the beautiful land He gave you WHEN YOU COULD HAVE.
Hatzlacha with that.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantTo All posters…
Read Eim HaBanim Semaicha by Rav Teichtal. It MAY open your eyes.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantThe topics discussed in this “coffee room” provoke so much lashon hara and sinas chinam, I seriously think a shaila should be asked as to whether the coffee room is ovair on “leefnay eevair” and should be closed down completely.
AinOhdMilvadoParticipant(Obviously many years ago) a secretary of the Satmar Rov (Rov Yoel) zatz”l came over to where he was sitting and whispered in the Rov’s ear.
The Rov broke out in tears, sobbing deeply.
When people asked the messenger what it was that evoked these tears, he said he had just informed the Rov that an Israeli soldier had been wounded in combat.
Was the Rov a “Zionist”? – obviously NOT.
Did he care deeply about the welfare and well-being of every Jew, including EVERY Jewish soldier? – obviously yes!
While he did not make a public prayer for chayalim, did he, himself pray privately for the chayalim? – WHAT DO YOU THINK!?!
AinOhdMilvadoParticipantAll shuls should absolutely should make a mishebairach for the chayalim.
Even my AGUDAH does it! Of course they don’t, chalila, use the form that mentions the state of Israel, but a nusach was created and it is said every Shabbas.
Those who believe you are protected by the Torah learning ALONE going on there (and I do not at all deny the extreme value of that learning) must feel that Israel, even the way things are now, merits such a naiys niglah without the hishtadlus of the IDF.
Those of you who oppose such a tefila, NEVER, I hope, step foot in Eretz Yisrael, because it IS the presence and the actions of the chayalim that keep you from getting your throat slit!
Furthermore, even before your plane lands at BenGurion airport, you are making use of “the Zionist infrastructure” – from the control tower at the airport, to the use of the Zionist cell phone system you use (to call your learning son, or son-in-law, to tell them you’ve arrived), to driving on the Zionist built roads, to arriving at your Zionist built hotel, and washing your hands from a Zionist built water supply system, to plugging in your shaver, or your phone charger to the Zionist built electricity supply, etc., etc., etc. One would have to be an extreme hypocrite to be so anti-Zionist and still make use of all they have done!
I personally am as strenuously against and disgusted by MANY of the policies of the Israeli government as any person could possibly be, but the way to make a HUGE kidush HaSh-m and change the face of Israel into be a Torah state is for a hundred thousand (or more!) frum Jews to make aliyah, NOT by sitting in the U.S. and thinking you are holy by not praying for Jewish boys, religious and not (yet) religious, who are putting their very lives on the line to protect the Jews in Eretz Yisrael INCLUDING the ones who are anti-Zionist, INCLUDING the boys that sit and learn, and INCLUDING YOU when you make vacation visits!
October 29, 2010 2:06 pm at 2:06 pm in reply to: Are the Reform and Conservative Still Jewish? #755346AinOhdMilvadoParticipantTo: Minyan gal…
Respectfully… to say, as you did, that “I would much rather be a religious…Conservative Jew than a…non-observant Orthodox one” is to say really that “conservative Judaism” and orthodox Judaism are TWO different religions.
Why? Because you said you are “religious”. What does “religious” mean? Yes, of course you are “entitled to” your opinions, but IF we are talking about ONE religion, i.e. Judaism, then there is only ONE barometer for what “religious” means. G-d did NOT give the Jewish Nation an Orthodox Torah, a “conservative” Torah and a “reform” Torah. He gave us only ONE Torah, ONE tradition, ONE body of law. The reform and conservative “movements” were clearly break away movements (less than 2 hundred years old) from a Jewish tradition of THOUSANDS of years that began at Mount Sinai, given by an eternal G-d for whom 2010 was as much the “present” as 1500 B.C.E. was.
Therefore, “religious” can have ONLY ONE defintion IF we are talking about (the same religion) Judaism, and that is strict adherence to the Mitzvot HaSh-m gave us.
Having come from the “conservative movement” myself, many, many years ago, I can understand that from your viewpoint, acceptance of the obligation of mitzva observance SEEMS like “it would be a great burden”. Be assured, that feeling is only because of a lack of understanding of what a religiously observant life is. Having “been there” myself, I am well aware of how the “conservative movement” likes to paint “orthodoxy” (-another word I dislike, because it too would seem to make it appear that there is more than one form of Judaism) – as a fanatic, restrictive, antiquated, close-minded form of Judaism. Trust me, – that is a VERY biased and VERY inaccurate spin on the joyous tradition which has sustained us for the last 3,700 years.
I would urge you to not only immerse yourself in the Aish.com website, but to contact and speak to the wonderful people at Aish.
May HaSh-m guide you to the joy of a true Torah life for yourself and your family.
