January 26, 2022 2:20 pm at 2:20 pm in reply to: YWN CR Poasters. Do you believe that the Tianamen Square Massacre happened? #2055060aimhabonimParticipant
I can’t believe you’re even asking that question!!
October 31, 2019 5:35 pm at 5:35 pm in reply to: If There Would be a Jewish Music Hall of Fame.. #1796240aimhabonimParticipantI can’t believe that nobody mentioned a performer who has had a huge influence on almost every frum child over the last 40 years-Uncle Moishy.
aimhabonimParticipantTo clarify what resident of ds9 wrote, the only soap that can be used on Shabbos is liquid soap. (Not bar soap.)
May 28, 2013 4:17 am at 4:17 am in reply to: #1 things a girl should know or have before going to seminary in Israel: #958448aimhabonimParticipantCOMFORTABLE SHOES!! You’ll start out wearing your cute shoes but then quickly realize that you’re not on 13th Ave. anymore….You’ll walk your feet off over there, and wear out shoes faster than you’d think possible.
aimhabonimParticipantYekke2: I’m not sure who’s being ignorant. The mekor for this is in Gemora Sotah,Daf 11a.”Why was it called Ramses? Because it would crumble(misroses)…And why was it called Pisom? Because “pi t’hom bol’o”,the mouth of the depths would swallow it.” Rashi says that whatever they built would sink into the ground. Now whether that means quicksand, small earthquakes, unstable ground, I don’t know. But just because you didn’t know, please don’t assume ignorace on the part of teachers.
January 31, 2012 4:49 pm at 4:49 pm in reply to: infertility issues/the blessing of children #918700aimhabonimParticipantIf this will be of any chizuk- I know of a young couple that got married and had two sons in fairly quick succesion. Then nothing…and nothing …for a long time. Of course they ran to specialists, etc. When their younger son was over seven, they had healthy twin girls!!
aimhabonimParticipantZeeskite-I think your opinion should be labeled a normative opinion, certainly not controversial in any way… 🙂 And I totally “second your opinion” 100%.
aimhabonimParticipantAttention,Zeena.Kasta- I am very close to a young woman who recently attended Darchei Binah. For answers to your questions, spend time on their website darcheibinah.org. There’s loads of info on it. Next, call Mrs. Kermaier at the sem at 011-972-2-6410266 with any questions. She’s a sweetheart who’ll be honest with you and be very helpful to you. And by the way,the young woman who was there had an outstanding year.
aimhabonimParticipantI just noticed this thread, and I’m surprised that no one mentioned this helpful hint. If you mix the medicine into cold Kedem concord grape juice, the bad taste is masked. It works beautifully.
aimhabonimParticipantNachas.Loads and loads of nachas.Really!
aimhabonimParticipantUH-BTGuy- I think you’re providing some unintended humor here.Did you” SERIOUSLY” mean to write “Cerealously” ? My dictionary is sighing in the background…
September 19, 2011 7:04 pm at 7:04 pm in reply to: NOT TZNIUS "BUBBIES" (also some fish, honey, and vinegar) #1200292aimhabonimParticipantTo Shprintze- I find it so very sad that you don’t know all that you were asking about.Covering knees and elbows is basic halacha.Covering toes is a machlokes that most communities are makpid on. PLEASE get yourself to a seforim store and buy a copy of “Halichas Bas Yisroel- A Woman’s Guide to Jewish Observance”,by Rav Yitzchok Yaacov Fuchs. In Volume One there is in-depth coverage with detailed footnotes of halachos of tznius. I think you (and many others!) would find this very enlightening.
August 31, 2011 10:58 pm at 10:58 pm in reply to: If you really want to do something and are told no #805018aimhabonimParticipantThere’s also the idea of Olam Haboh in the frum world, that the others participating in the sport don’t have.Do you have any idea how beloved in the eyes of H-shem you are by following your Rav’s psak? You should express your frustration and get it out of your system, then try to think outside the box to see what you possibly ~could~ do.
aimhabonimParticipantThe exact translation is “pious”.
aimhabonimParticipantIsn’t it obvious to all that Yossi2468’s post is dripping with sarcasm???
August 10, 2011 8:47 pm at 8:47 pm in reply to: What has to be put in writing with Bathroom contractor #796819aimhabonimParticipantBasically,everything.
August 10, 2011 8:41 pm at 8:41 pm in reply to: What would you like to be when you grow up? #1045021aimhabonimParticipantInteresting that so far no one has pointed out that the question,”What do you want to be?” is not the same question as ,”What do you want to do?”. Being a doctor or a plumber is a way to make a parnassah, but does not define who you are. In the secular world they don’t usually differentiate between the two…
aimhabonimParticipantQuoted from Rav Simcha Bunim Cohen’s sefer “The Three Weeks,Tisha B’av and Other Fasts”,-“Children who have reached the age of understanding the concept of mourning(i.e.,7 or 8)should be trained to wear non-leather shoes on Tisha B’av.However, nowadays the custom is that even children below that age do not wear leather shoes.” The footnote to this states (in translation)”this is the custom everywhere.” AS for hearing Eicha, after you get your kids to sleep and won’t be disturbed, sit on the floor and read it yourself.
aimhabonimParticipantMinyan Gal,the answer is yes.I read of such a case.
aimhabonimParticipantI’m not too “into” cars, but I do think the Aztec is really pretty ugly. I once saw one whose license plate was UGTEK. Boy, did I laugh…
aimhabonimParticipantAtlanta
June 27, 2011 6:24 pm at 6:24 pm in reply to: halachos on an onen and an aveilis questions???? #781180aimhabonimParticipantThere is an excellent Artscroll English sefer “Mourning in Halachah” that contains a tremendous amount of halachos and minhagim. For anyone in that situation it’s a must-have. That being said, you must have a Rov to ask shailos to,as there are many situations that can’t be covered in a book, and there are many situations that can and do arise that need hadracha from a Rov.
aimhabonimParticipantAnd how will that help if you have the top bunk?(P.S.-It’s spelled “containers”.)
aimhabonimParticipantAimhabonim….smaicha! 🙂
aimhabonimParticipantEllenville.
aimhabonimParticipantHigher-the opposite of lower.Hire-to pay someone to do work for you. 🙂
aimhabonimParticipant“Legit”-short for legitimate.Anyone else notice some of the “atroshus” (just being facetious) spelling mistakes in the Coffee Room?
aimhabonimParticipant“Chosmo shel Hakodesh Boruch Hu emes”. We are supposed to emulate Hashem’s ways.
aimhabonimParticipantIf I was brought up in a non-religious home (I was), and later in life (as a teenager)became acquainted with frum Jews (I did),would I care to find out what it’s all about? YES.And would I make the drastic, life changing decision to become frum? YES! Boruch Hashem! And it’s obvious that a number of other posters here (and at least one mod)also said Na’aseh V’nishmah at one point in their lives.
aimhabonimParticipantAries- I prefer “Akeres Habayis”. 🙂
aimhabonimParticipantI am quoting from the sefer “Halichas Bas Yisroel”- “In some communities,it is customary for brides to cover their hair before the wedding ceremony to ensure that it will be covered at the moment of marriage.Elsewhere, brides cover their hair after yichud.Still others wait until the following day to cover their hair.”There are 3 footnotes in the sefer that bring down exactly where each shitta comes from, and they are all valid, major poskim.Feel free to look it up.
aimhabonimParticipantPac-Man-You should know that there are different “shitos” regarding covering the hair. Some davka hold that the kalla should have uncovered hair by her chasana (to show that she is a besulah),and that she is not mechuyav to cover her hair until the following morning.
aimhabonimParticipantThere is a wonderful frum organization dealing with brain injuries called BINA.
aimhabonimParticipantHere is a tried and true recipe that looks very plain, but tastes delicious. Preheat over to 350.Oil a 9″x 13″ pan. Mix together: 3 eggs,1 cup oil,2 cups applesauce,2 tsp. vanilla,2 cups sugar. Then add in 3 cups flour,2 tsp. baking soda, and 2 tsp. cinnamon. If you like raisins, you can mix in 1 cup.Bake 45 minutes to an hour(until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean.) Enjoy!
aimhabonimParticipantUh, “d a”,please let’s not plagiarize. Your post should be italicized and attributed to R’ Abie Rottenberg, who has written many wonderful songs…
aimhabonimParticipantDunno, thank you for that, but how do you pronounce it? Anyone out there more proficient in Ivrit than I am, who would know definitely what the correct word is?(and how to say it ?)
aimhabonimParticipantREAD TO YOUR KIDS!!! This is one of the best ways to develop closeness with your kids. Read to them something that’s of interest to them. The book could be a story, factual information that’s interesting, whatever they like. Then talk with them about it-“How would you feel if that was you-would you act like so-and-so in the book did? “. Reading to your kids(whether age 2 or 10) is a springboard for talking with them about just about anything.
aimhabonimParticipantYes,potpie, she did apply and was accepted to Chochmas Lev. There are major differences between them, however, and Darchei Binah is more “up her alley”.
aimhabonimParticipantThanks for the interest, potpie. My daughter applied (and was accepted to) a few sems, and will iy”h be attending Darchei Binah next year.It seems to be the closest fit to what we were looking for,and she’s excited for next year.
aimhabonimParticipantI’ll take number 6!
aimhabonimParticipantThank you ever so much!
aimhabonimParticipantI can’t use anything with nuts due to allergies in the family. Potsandpans,I’m a little afraid to try something untested and possibly ruin a batch of hamantashen. There must be someone out there who has a tried-and-true recipe for this…
aimhabonimParticipantDear Mod 80- how is this a recipe for a chocolate hamantash filling if there is no chocolate in the recipe?
aimhabonimParticipantWhere I live, chocolate spread is not available. Recipes, anyone?
aimhabonimParticipantTo Oomis1105(and everyone else)-I don’t think that a pidyon haben is so rare. in my family,my oldest daughter gave birth to a girl.My next five children all were zoche to make a pidyon haben!I’ll admit, that was not typical…
aimhabonimParticipantLet’s try this again. Is anyone out there familiar with Ateres, what the sem’s like, type of girl, etc…?
aimhabonimParticipantCould someone explain Ateres to me? I don’t know anyone who’s gone there.
aimhabonimParticipantMods, could you please fix the spelling in the topic thread? It’s spelled Niagara, not Niagra.Just looks funny.Thanks.
aimhabonimParticipantSo I drove it away into the sunset, and lived happily ever after… THE END.
aimhabonimParticipantThis thread was started 3 months ago by 000646 wanting advice on where to go in the Carribbean.Could you let all us curious folks know where you ended up going, and if you’d reccomend it to us or not?
