November 4, 2018 4:23 pm at 4:23 pm in reply to: Calling 311 on someone blocking your driveway is mesira #1616643adocsParticipant
Joseph,
Your response to Milhouse is a strawman comment. You are concocting a ridiculous scenario of someone going to jail for blocking a driveway when we all know that is pretty much an impossibility. Blocking a driveway will result in a fine and possibly the inconvenience of being towed and resulting tow charges.
Still waiting for the name of a Posek who says that calling 311 for blocking a driveway is considered mesira.

Don’t be silly. You’re only chayev misa if you knew the alarm owner was a jew. I’m assuming you knew otherwise. If, on the other hand, you knew it was a jew and you called the cops anyway, then you’re out of luck. )-:

How about we do this the other way?
Why don’t YOU name an English speaking posek that anyone reading this can contact for themselves, who holds that calling 311 in this situation is considered mesira.October 29, 2018 3:42 pm at 3:42 pm in reply to: Is it Bittual Torah to learn to be a Marksman? #1613189adocsParticipantJoseph
Yes. Yes, they would.

adocsParticipantMaybe in a Haredie community like Boro Park , the people should be trained not to do things that get them arrested.
adocsParticipantOnce again we seem to not understand the actual definition of chilul hashem.
Why is kaparos with chickens a chilul Hashem?
adocsParticipantyitzchokm
Says who? Maybe we should vote for the morally correct candidate (A in your example) and let G-d worry about the school vouchers.
adocsParticipant“can cause tragic ramifications”
Really? There are people in Lakewood that may stop using the mikva because of this? (Assuming it’s accurate)
adocsParticipantZD
Please show how it’s possible on a direct flight from the US to Israel to not miss a minyan (assuming no minyan on plane with it’s associated issues)
adocsParticipant“Rav Chaim Kanievsky also made it clear that people should daven all tefillos with a Minyan during Bein Hazmanim.”
Of course. And obviously people should not sleep in and miss shacharis b’tzibur or be lazy and miss mincha/maariv just because they’re “off” from Yeshiva. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s assur to do a productive activity (yes. vacation/relaxing/amusement can be productive) unless there are 3 minyanim a day in the vicinity.
Someone can be very committed to tefila b’tzibur and still make a cheshbon for the sake of his family to go on a trip where a mincha minyan (or any minyan) might not be possible. Either extreme (either not caring about minyan at all or never going anywhere without 3 minyanim a day) is well, extreme.

If there is a bracha on an eclipse, what is it and what is your source for that?

“Depending if he was born between January 1 and Rosh Hashana or after Rosh Hashana”
adocsParticipantEven if you have a slightly more difficult prescription (for which Zenni may add a surcharge), and you can’t get the cheap glasses for $15, Zenni will still be way cheaper than you would pay in a regular store. And just as good.

Why do you assume when he said “not in the standard “ that he meant a lower standard?
adocsParticipantWhile “going along” for the sake of peace is a very important ideal, it can also be a slippery slope. How far are we willing to go? Where do you draw the line? There are many areas where, peace notwithstanding, we don’t “go along”.
July 18, 2018 8:34 am at 8:34 am in reply to: Question on Brachah of a certain Derivative of an Unspecified Plant #1560739adocsParticipantThe “unspecified plant” is not the only ingredient. As with any other food made of multiple ingredients, the bracha would depend on issues of ikar/tafel and/or rov/miut.

You’re making a big assumption. Nowhere in the question did the OP state that the guy is “looking” for a never married girl.
adocsParticipantFairly common sense, that platonic relationships are unnatural.

Are you saying that the length of the day during the time of the Gemara vs. the current length of day is a difference of 3 hours ?!

“The discrepancy between today and the time of the gemara is about 3 hours (with an uncertainty of a good few minutes either way). “
Please explain.

Nice. So you know how to copy and paste from the OU website. (I’d provide the link but don’t want to upset the mods)
Chilul Hashem only comes into play if one is doing something wrong. If a Jew is acting in an appropriate manner, it doesn’t matter if the goyim like it or not. The goyim are not the arbiters of how we’re supposed to act.

Where are you getting your definition of chilul hashem? Just because goyim may get upset, is not the definition of chilul hashem.
adocsParticipantCan this be translated to English?
May 6, 2018 7:21 am at 7:21 am in reply to: If Nassi is wrong, how do you explain why 1000’s of older girls are stil single? #1516669adocsParticipantGH
you wrote “Efforts to make unmarried frum girls feel like damaged goods or failures is a big chillul hashem”
Everything else you wrote may be true. And you’re correct that girls should not be treated as damaged goods. But where are you getting your definition of chilul hashem?
April 30, 2018 10:13 pm at 10:13 pm in reply to: Jewish Jobs – Shouldnt Say Female Only Very Many Times #1514035adocsParticipantIt’s only a yichud issue if it’s a small office with too few people.

Agreed.
But might there be a difference between hiring a 25 yr old woman (bad idea) vs hiring a 65 yr old who’s old enough to be their grandmother (might be OK)
April 30, 2018 10:12 pm at 10:12 pm in reply to: Jewish Jobs – Shouldnt Say Female Only Very Many Times #1514040adocsParticipantAnd on the earlier discussion of shaitel macher…
Someone mentioned negia as an issue.
While I’m not encouraging males to enter the shaitel macher workforce, on a technical level why would negia be an issue? Women go to male doctors and dentists. And the basic heter is that they are concentrating on their work. So why would that heter not apply to a male shaitel macher?
April 20, 2018 12:04 pm at 12:04 pm in reply to: Getting a ride with someone from the opposite gender #1509279adocsParticipantJoseph-
OK. So if a car in fact has the same status as a private room, it is subject to the same heteirim if relevant i.e. visible to the public and subject to the same restrictions regarding appropriate interaction between the genders.
My point is that there is no chiddush here regarding a car. Define its status in that particular circumstance and the Halacha is the same.
April 20, 2018 8:36 am at 8:36 am in reply to: Getting a ride with someone from the opposite gender #1509171adocsParticipantWhy the big discussion about rides? Why is this different than any other interaction between men and women which have halachic guidelines that are dependent on the details of the situation. Namely, relationship, purpose of interaction, and surrounding environment (i.e. presence or absence of other people)
April 19, 2018 6:20 am at 6:20 am in reply to: Getting a ride with someone from the opposite gender #1508654adocsParticipantYudel,

How can you eat chometz after shvi’i shel pesach which “was sold to the non-Jew according to Halacha” It still belongs to the non-jew.

The odds of this happening with our thin cracker matzos is infinitesimally low.
The odds of this happening with machine matzos is close to impossible.
adocsParticipantGH,
Why did the rav bang on the shtender?
adocsParticipantWhere in hilchos pesach is it taught that we are supposed to deprive ourselves? These “conveniences” may actually increase simchas yom tov.

February 25, 2018 7:49 am at 7:49 am in reply to: Are Chareidi women judges the wave of the future? #1475780adocsParticipantJoseph-
While I don’t know much about the new judge in Israel, regarding Freier it’s been reported that she did not do anything without the support of her Rav/Rebbe.
Are those reports false?
