    azoi.is,

You sound like you are preparing for your child’s divorce r”l. A terrible terrible attitude on your part. Start trusing your children-in-laws. Excluding their name is a terrible sign of mistrust, and may introduce rancor into your child’s marriage. You can actually be the cause of their divorce.

Who said a cap isn’t sufficient. I said a hat, which is what a cap is. I didn’t say the MB specified a fedora.

Posek Hador is probably the same idea as “Raskbhag”. The foremost and leading posek of the dor. The one that people know is head and sholdiers above.

Are you suggesting that those who use English as a second language (ESL) or never learnt English first-hand or are from non-English speaking countries or from non-English speaking homes be banned from commenting on YWN?

This problem is a large one and no amount of mussar on it is sufficient. We need to hear how terrible it is as often as possible. The negative consequences of falling for this, especially thinking “its no big deal”, are all too real.

Thank you for the chizuk WIY. Please continue posting divrei mussar (that is what this “section” of YWN is for), it is well appreciated and more importantly needed.

tomim is 100% correct. The husbands minhagim become her minhagim, and the husbands decisions in a marriage are the final one.

The government WANTS anyone and everyone who meets the technical eligibility qualifications to receive FS, to actually apply and receive them. The government is literally advertising all over the place begging people to apply for them. The Federal government even gives the States incentives to get as many people as possible sign up.

If you technically qualify, get them. And use them. Don’t think twice about it. If they change the law to reduce eligibility, you’ll deal with it then. Until then, bon appetit.

The OP saw a problem, and brought it to the klal’s attention. That is the appropriate thing to do.

OP: No. According to the law, even if someone is unemployed, not looking for work, and even refuses every job offer he is fully qualified for food stamps (but not welfare – for welfare you must work or look for work generally.) College students who are not employed are also fully qualified for FS.

Rick Perry (a great friend of Israel) is Obama’s biggest nightmare. Despite all the Democrat apologetics as to why Rick Perry “really doesn’t deserve credit” for how well Texas is doing despite the Obama recession in the nation.

ca: There is nothing to differ about. It is a factual legal matter that assets are not considered in determining eligibility. This isn’t a matter of opinion.

There was a story all over the news a number of months ago, where a woman won a state multi million dollar lottery. When her food stamps case came up for renewal she drove to the FS office in her new Mercedes to renew. The workers saw that and tipped off the press. Her renewal was approved, since she had little income, despite her big bank account which legally is not considered for eligibility. Some of the state legislatures said they wanted to change the law. But it turned out that federal mandates from Congress preclude states from considering any assets, and can only look at income. (They used to consider assets also until about 5 years ago, when the law changed.)

If so, what constitutes an engagement — must their be t’nayim, like the Chasidim do, that is legally binding? Or even a l’chaim, that has no legal force, makes shadchanus due?
