Abe CohenParticipant
How much did it cost you to “tip” the tester? 😉
Abe CohenParticipantAs long as the rest stop uses filtered water. 🙂
Abe CohenParticipantAll the women I know INSIST upon a male ob/gyn.
Abe CohenParticipantAn afterlife could entail gehenim.
Abe CohenParticipantyit: IOW, you are saying it is better (after 120) to have been a bad Jew than a plain (non Ben Noach) goy.
Abe CohenParticipantWhy do many shuls give glila to a child rather than to an adult?
Abe CohenParticipantThe implicit point of my question is whether a goy is better off becoming a ger if he knows that there is a strong possibility of him dropping following the Torah sometime thereafter.
Abe CohenParticipantAfter your aliya, the gabbai asks the oleh for a list of names to read out. What is the purpose and benefit of him saying those names, and which people should the oleh mention to the gabbai (his wife, all children, friends)?
And the gabbai also asks for a donation amount. How much is typical pledge (Shabbos or weekday)? And why do some people simply say “matana” instead of an actual amount, and what does giving a matana mean?
Abe CohenParticipantWhat is more constructive than being a leader in Klal Yisroel, if I may dare ask?

Abe CohenParticipantSam: How can you use any e-mail provider? The same issue you identified applies. Most people have very private stuff in their e-mails hosted at Gmail, Yahoo or Microsoft.
Abe CohenParticipantGdrive is fully integrrated with your Google Account, Gmail, GDocs, etc.
Abe CohenParticipantSam: I disagree. Especially if it is true. Or even if it is arguably so. Say someone argued Asians are more intelligent than Africans. I believe that is factual. Someone else can reasonably disagree. Nevertheless, no one should delegitamize the argument or discussion.
Abe CohenParticipantWhy would you think that being a bit less smart than someone else is demeaning?
Would anyone find it demeaning to be told that Rav Moshe Feinstein (or, l’havdil, Albert Einstein) is smarter than them?
Abe CohenParticipantTechnology Awareness Group (TAG) has offices and phone numbers in various communities, offering Free filtering options.
Abe CohenParticipantTouro’s Beis Medrash program.
Abe CohenParticipantThat distinction only applies to an onus. He is absolved from seeing something he inadvertently looked at if he immediately turns away from seeing it again. Same principle here. If he moves away so not to notice a smell he isn’t permitted to that he inadvertently smelled, he is okay.
But that still does’nt absolve her from lifnei iver.
Abe CohenParticipantRK: The gemorah talks about perfume.
Abe CohenParticipantRaphael Kaufman: Why an OB GYN yes, but a midwife not?
Abe CohenParticipantSo you vacation separately, vacation jointly, take off Yomim Tovim and Shabbosim.
How many weeks is left to work per year, again?
September 6, 2011 4:35 pm at 4:35 pm in reply to: A change in "Good Shabbos" in Borough Park? #806386Abe CohenParticipantHmm. I’ve always had that experiance.
Abe CohenParticipantI think its discriminatory that a male cannot be a doula or midwife.
Abe CohenParticipantSince a woman shouldn’t wear perfume outside the home, why do some wear them to weddings?
September 5, 2011 10:14 pm at 10:14 pm in reply to: Does Anyone Else Find This Short Story Disturbing? #840689Abe CohenParticipantWhy do tons of frum OOT’ers, young and old alike, keep moving into Brooklyn?
September 5, 2011 10:09 pm at 10:09 pm in reply to: What type of Shul do you prefer and why? #806481Abe CohenParticipantBeis Medrash and Shtiebel.
Abe CohenParticipantIf someone blows their zivug over narishkeit, and someone else marries their zivug, wouldn’t that mess up the other persons zivug from getting married to them?
September 4, 2011 11:04 pm at 11:04 pm in reply to: Going around barefooted or without shoes on at home #805937Abe CohenParticipantWhy would the A”H bring down societal trends that have no basis in Yiddishkeit?
Abe CohenParticipantHe never was machsir 40″.
Abe CohenParticipantIn the frum community boys and girls don’t meet “socially”. We all now what kind of terrible problems that leads to, which is why the OP is correct to be concerned.
August 29, 2011 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm in reply to: Life as the son of a Child Molester: My story #819700Abe CohenParticipantMP: I truly admire your fortitude. Your (and your mothers) relationship with him was normal until it became public, and then it changed?
August 29, 2011 5:33 pm at 5:33 pm in reply to: Life as the son of a Child Molester: My story #819698Abe CohenParticipantMP: You had fine relationship with your father until what he did became public, and then you just cut off contact?
Abe CohenParticipantGo home early. Not even a hard question.
August 26, 2011 8:48 pm at 8:48 pm in reply to: Earthquake + Hurricane during One Week in New York #802729Abe CohenParticipantRon: There is no such thing as coincidence.
Abe CohenParticipantI think they are very much worried about such arayos.
Abe CohenParticipantSam2 – arayos is one of the larger probelms the rabbonim have with college.
Abe CohenParticipantFinally a CR thread discussion that is in a too high level of English for haifagirl to understand!
August 25, 2011 5:55 pm at 5:55 pm in reply to: shrin=physcologist. reason for this illustrious nickname, anyone? #802036Abe CohenParticipantAlso it probably is the same reason lawyers are called “sharks”.
August 25, 2011 5:51 pm at 5:51 pm in reply to: shrin=physcologist. reason for this illustrious nickname, anyone? #802035Abe CohenParticipantMore like because they reduce their patients wallet.
Abe CohenParticipantWhy are you telling us about this?
Abe CohenParticipantI’ve wondered why sunglasses seem a lot more prevelant amongst women than men in our community. I think it’s fashion, not medical need.
Abe CohenParticipantLike Sam said, I think the big ones worn for fashion (rather than medical) are the big problem.
August 24, 2011 8:42 pm at 8:42 pm in reply to: Life Coach: Pros and Cons (squeak vs. aries) #801576Abe CohenParticipantSeeking different perspectives on an issue does not constitute a fight.
Abe CohenParticipantAu contraire. There are more NYers than OOTers in Israel, proportionally. Perhaps because the NYers aren’t as comfortable in golus in their small homes as the OOTers are in their large gashmiusdik homes that they’d loath to give up for a small one in EY.
Abe CohenParticipantIt’s a great mitzvah to support Torah learning. So better to support your own SIL’s Torah learning than someone else.
Abe CohenParticipantWhy didn’t Rav Moshe, the Satmar Rebbe, Rav Ahron Kotler, Rav Pam, the Rambam, Rav SRH, the Vilna Gaon move to Israel?
Besides, it is generally the OOTers, with their large house, lawn, and gardens that would be loath that Moshiach come too fast, lest they have to give all that up.
August 21, 2011 8:20 pm at 8:20 pm in reply to: If Im the ony one to give complete down payment to children… #800717Abe CohenParticipantIn any event, divorce court can split the house (value) or award it to the other spouse, regardless of whose name it technically belonged to.
Abe CohenParticipantWaiter, I need more water please.
August 21, 2011 6:34 pm at 6:34 pm in reply to: If Im the ony one to give complete down payment to children… #800715Abe CohenParticipantAnd, of course, if you don’t trust your in-law to have his name on the house, you will not expect him to contribute towards the monthly mortgage payments from his salary. So add in the monthly mortgage expense to what you expect to pay each month.
Abe CohenParticipantIf it ends with a “hay” in Hebrew, it should have an “h” in the English, as h corresponds to hay.
Abe CohenParticipantWhat’s the point of Rav Moshe being described as the Rashkbhag? Same point here.
BTW, the Seridei Eish uses the term posek hador in various of his teshuvos.
