You want to know if your wife has grounds for divorce based on Jewish Law. My advice is to apologize and buy her some jewelry it will be cheaper both financially and mentally. But if you don’t want to, you can contact a Bais Horrah either in your neighborhood or in Lakewood . They will answer your question.
September 25, 2016 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm in reply to: Taking off for yomtov as Public School employee #1184034Abba_SParticipantI would advise you to contact your supervisor first they may have an unofficial policy in these type of cases, so that you may be allowed to work additional hours in order not exceeds you leave balances and be on leave without pay. Your supervisor may require permission from their supervisor. As a general rule Bosses do not like it when subordinates are on leave without pay status so they may work with you by increasing your work hours so that you don’t fall into that category.
Abba_SParticipantIf you are looking for exotic germs try your local hospital. TB try Rikers Island or any of the other house of detentions.
Abba_SParticipantHealth- I am aware of Typhoid Mary but you have to realize that that was over 110 years ago. Many civil rights that we enjoy today didn’t exist back then.
The point I was trying to make is that if health professionals wouldn’t listen to a quarantine order in the case of Ebola which is deadly, why do you think an ordinary person will comply with a quarantine order for the common cold? In the US we don’t imprison the sick.
Abba_SParticipantHealth- Back in 2014 when there was a Ebola outbreak in Africa many health care workers defied their quarantined orders upon coming back to the US. Was anyone prosecuted? I don’t think so. All you are going to do is create a law that is unenforceable resulting in a breakdown of law and order.
Abba_SParticipantI think all will agree that sick people should not infect the public. But just like you CAN”T be sick because of work or school so too these people CAN”T be sick, hence they come to school or work. But can a sick person be quarantined in the USA and what is the process?
Abba_SParticipantAre you taking Federal, State & Local Income Tax together with Social Security Tax which in NYC all together can run as high as 33% of gross income into consideration? Also let’s not forget health insurance cost and expenses ie co-pays.
Abba_SParticipantIs it right to give someone answers to the test while the test is given? I am not an attorney but I do know that the NY State it is criminal to provide answers to a Department of Motor Vehicles CDL test and people who are caught go to jail.
September 5, 2016 7:03 pm at 7:03 pm in reply to: If Trump becomes president, I'm moving to Canada… #1190609Abba_SParticipantLU- No you can not be arrested for Libel.
As to whether Health can be sued by Clinton for libel? She can sue him, but first she has to find him. Proving her case will be hard because as soon as she does every conservative organization will file, a friend of court brief. Everything from Whitewater through Benghazi will be on the table. Health can claim it all depends as to what criminal is (means) and as a Public Figure the bar is higher to prove libel. Does she want all her family scandals revisited. Even if she wins it will cost her millions in legal expenses and she probably wouldn’t collect a dollar. Some of you may think Health is a doctor with a lucrative practice but I doubt it, although I think he makes a good living. She may win the case and the court can award her only 1 dollar. Health also can declare bankruptcy and never pay just like OJ. So the chances of health having to pay is minimal, although he will probably be famous.
Please Note: I am not an Attorney and you should not use this as legal advice but consult and attorney in your state.
Abba_SParticipantProbably she is starting school and doesn’t have the time to post? Or maybe she is interning at a pharmaceutical company’s lab so that when she graduates she will have a job.
Abba_SParticipantIs this the coffee room or a homework forum? And why is everyone picking on HEALTH?
September 5, 2016 12:55 pm at 12:55 pm in reply to: If Trump becomes president, I'm moving to Canada… #1190596Abba_SParticipantLet’s face it, unless you are independently wealthy you are not moving. Where are you going to move to, Israel, Europe or Canada, the taxes are much higher. South,Central America or Africa the crime is to high.
This election cycle most voters are not voting for the best candidate but which is the lesser of the two evils.
Abba_SParticipantDid you try to clean it? There is probably something stuck not letting the air flow through
.
Abba_SParticipantIncome earned during a marriage is by secular law an asset of the family and must be divided equally. According to Jewish law it belongs to the husband. As far as the wife saying I’ll keep my income and you don’t have to support me. She can do that but odds are she wouldn’t get a get (Jewish writ of divorce) or if she does she will have to pay alimony.
Abba_SParticipantDoes having long hair increase the possibility of contaminating a sterile environment? Germs may attach themselves to the strands of hair and when the hair falls out contaminate what it lands on. I know food handlers must wear hairnets, does it also apply to pharmacist compounding new drugs in a lab? I think the longer the hair, the more likely it is to fall out.
August 31, 2016 7:39 pm at 7:39 pm in reply to: Punishing innocent children because you think their parents are inferior #1175201Abba_SParticipantGavra at work – This is not the first time this has happened. What happens is that the courts orders the yeshiva to enroll the students, which it does. The other parents boycott the school. The court then orders the parents to send their kids to school and they refuse and are sent to jail for contempt. It may sell newspapers but doesn’t educate students.
The government needs them to enter the workforce. If they don’t fund secular studies they wouldn’t be taught these subjects,. This will burden social services for generation to come as they will be unable to enter the workforce.
August 31, 2016 4:26 pm at 4:26 pm in reply to: Punishing innocent children because you think their parents are inferior #1175193Abba_SParticipantGavra at Work – Anyone can home school their children, but if you mean the few who are being rejected, their parents work and so can’t home school their children.
Part of the problem is that yeshivas are partially funded at a lower rate than Israeli Public Schools which would take them in. There are Less Macmur yeshivas that would take them in but they are out of the district. In my opinion school busing is a better solution to this problem. Placing them in a school that wants them is better than forcing them on a school that doesn’t and it will be a better learning environment.
Abba_SParticipantMany judges try to get the litigants to mediate rather then actually judge the case by showing the weakness of each side’s case.
This actually speeds up the process. So they are not enforcing a judgement that is contrary to Jewish Law. Using this logic , is it permissible to sit on a jury? If you trip on the sidewalk can you sue in Secular Court?
Is it better to rely on a Frum judge who may give the benefit of the doubt to a Jewish defendant, or rely on a Non-Frum judge who maybe bias against a Frum defendant? I think it is better to elect the Frum judge.
August 31, 2016 1:14 pm at 1:14 pm in reply to: Punishing innocent children because you think their parents are inferior #1175189Abba_SParticipantThe problem is not that the “kolel” parents want to punish anyone, rather they don’t want their children to associate with children they consider less religious. The secular court has tried to force the yeshiva to accept them and the parents just boycotted the yeshiva. The parents went to jail rather than send their kids to yeshiva with those they considered less frum.
August 30, 2016 12:54 pm at 12:54 pm in reply to: Do you think it's ok to bring your kids to the beach? #1177358Abba_SParticipantLU Polar Bears is a swimming club of humans who go swimming in the winter in NYC.
Abba_SParticipantThis happened because of a lack of traffic & street lights. If there was a traffic light, the pedestrian would have waited for the light, but the nearest crosswalk was a third of a mile away. Another factor was the speed of the vehicle. At 60 miles per hour you are driving in access of 88 feet per second but your headlights on;y extend 50 feet. There was no way the driver could have stopped or avoided this accident. Speed was a factor. If the vehicle was going 30 miles per hour this accident may have been avoided because the driver could have would have had more time to avoid the pedestrian, and the pedestrian’s injuries would have been a lot less. Slow down, those few extra seconds or even minutes can save a life. Do you want to live your life with the knowledge you carelessly killed someone?
I am not blaming anyone for this accident. I am merely stating that an accident at 30 MPH the pedestrian can walk away from but at 60 MPH it’s almost always fatal.
Abba_SParticipantIf you bought the music you can copy it on all of your players but you are only allowed to use one of them at a time. If you made a copy for a friend when he is playing it you can’t. This is only for copyrighted music. As a general rule most music is copyrighted.
Abba_SParticipantSyag Lchochma – I think you should really consider getting the Masters Degree. If you plan on working 10 years you would make an additional $90,000 at a cost of only $14,000.00, over 600% or a rate of return of over 60% per year. Where can you get a return like that.
In most Litvish boy’s yeshivas by 7th grade morning prayers start at 7:30 AM and school ends at 6:00 PM. In high school there is an evening session from 7:00 – 9:00 which starts at once a week in 9th grade and increases each year so that by 12th grade it’s four night Monday – Thursday. When you went to College you left yeshiva at 6:00 PM and from 7-10 were in college (we prayed in between classes) and then went home to eat and sleep. Nobody studied 10 hours for a quiz. If you didn’t understand a concept there was always someone who was in your class or took it last year that would answer your questions during lunch time.
Abba_SParticipantI assume you are aware that they will be raising the gasoline tax in NJ to upgrade NJ’s roads & highways. While there are sidewalks in many part of the town most of the developments don’t have sidewalks connecting them to the downtown area. Also many of the sidewalks are cracked and the children walk in the street. This will probably cost $500 million and still not solve the problem because Lakewood keeps expanding. Also NJ is famous for government corruption.
As far as the federal courts being Antisemitic that is the same logic the Southerner thought when they fought integration and lost. It is 60 years later and they are still busing for integration. Satmer has won in Bloomingberg NY when they denied them the right to vote and blocked them from getting building permits.
As far as no school busing your in a dream world parents will never accept it. As it is some of the “Failing districts” are complaining that the state is giving these funds to Lakewood and not to them. If they are giving equal amount per student then they have to give school vouchers otherwise the district is receiving funds for a service it didn’t provide.
Abba_SParticipantReb Yid I assume you are killing the bacteria for health purposes.
Meno- Would you take your anger out on a pet? The person needs to take anger management classes not take it out on a defenseless creature. Do you go to Bull or Chicken Fights.
Abba_SParticipantYou are saying that you can build hundreds of miles of sidewalks along all the streets of Lakewood by the start of school year for less than $20 million, the cost of school busing. What will happen is that your taxes will go up to pay for the sidewalks and because Lakewood continues to grow you will never have adequate sidewalks and will still be paying for school busing forever. I think you are in the dream world.
The state will never agree to school vouchers but just like the south thought there would never be integration in the public schools but the Federal courts mandated it. So too if it can be proven that the state violated the Yeshiva students’ rights the courts can mandate school vouchers to correct past discrimination.
Abba_SParticipantI don’t think it’s a good idea to cancel Bien Hazamnium as this is the only vacation they have. They need a little relaxation otherwise they will burn out. Would you want your younger kids to go to school year round and have no summer vacation? I don’t think so.
August 24, 2016 8:24 am at 8:24 am in reply to: Is there only one person whom you can successfully marry? #1174861Abba_SParticipant40 days before a person is born a “Bas Kol” says so in so is to marry so in so. One has to find which spare rib matches which husband.
Abba_SParticipantZD- 47% of the taxpayers in the USA pay no taxes, so it is possible that many lower income Lakewood residents also don’t pay any income tax. The Federal child credit is $1,000.00 per child under 17 years old as of Dec 31.
Health- You don’t want to pay for school busing because it increases your taxes but you think nothing of having your fellow taxpayers pay for miles of sidewalks and school crossing guards. Plus they will have to have an environmental impact study showing walking to school is safe. An easier solution is ban school busing through out the state or at least in Lakewood. It’s not going to happen.
Look at it this way if the state loses the lawsuit over this you maybe looking at paying for school vouchers for the over 30,000 yeshiva students at at least $10,000.00 each which will really raise your taxes.
August 23, 2016 10:18 pm at 10:18 pm in reply to: Are ther Bedouin who didn't wear hats during Davening #1176647Abba_SParticipantI am not sure why you want nomadic Arabs to wear hats and why would you want Arabs in shul during davening.
I think what he is talking about is if an unmarried Jewish boy must wear a hat during morning prayers. While ideally you should wear a hat on top of your skullcap outside of yeshivas most shuls don’t. Many shuls require the leader of prayers to wear a hat and jacket but if the Rabbi isn’t there you can get away without it if you have the tallis on top of your head.
Females who are not married do not require a head covering to pray.
August 23, 2016 10:01 pm at 10:01 pm in reply to: Do you think it's ok to bring your kids to the beach? #1177352Abba_SParticipantIf the temperature is in the 30 or 40 Fahrenheit I think it will be okay unless the polar bears are out.
Abba_SParticipantMany Rabbis didn’t trust that the meat was slaughtered properly and so didn’t eat meat or poultry.
Abba_SParticipantDid the the state INCREASE taxes in NJ? No. Are the Jews trying to get a new entitlement? No, courtesy busing has been around for decades. All this bill did is, fix a problem that the state created when it VIOLATED the frum Jews Civil Rights by putting in a school monitor with veto power. The state is trying to avoid a federal law suit as it will be hard to justify the violating of the frum Jews’ voting rights so that they can deny the victim’s children their school bus entitlement.
I would agree with you that there should be no taxes for public schools at all . That would solve the problem. That is not the case, the state not only taxes you for schooling but also funds many failing school districts through out the state.
Since you don’t want school busing. How many miles of sidewalks are you willing to SPONSOR? How much are school crossing guard going to cost? What about the grid lock you are going to be causing? Is it worth it?
Abba_SParticipantG-d created bugs for a purpose, what I don’t know, but if you kill them for no purpose, there maybe ramifications. You & I are just tenants in this world. You can’t just break a window just because you want to. If you are the owner than you can do whatever you want. Please note, this is only my opinion and you don’t have to agree with me.
Abba_SParticipantHealth- Why is it prohibited to take money from the state. Are you one of those people who when they file their income taxes don’t take exemptions. By the way I live and pay taxes in NYC, I and my kids never took school buses, we took mass transit to and from school.
Are you saying that the majority of the state assembly and senate are Yidden, I don’t think so. What happened was they thought that by putting in a monitor the problem would be solved. I believe the state is scared of a Federal Civil Right Lawsuit and this is a way of avoiding itm by showing that they tried to accommodate everyone.
Abba_SParticipantDo you mean like 770 Eastern Parkway or or BMG in Lakewood NJ
Abba_SParticipantI would make school busing free for all students.
Abba_SParticipantThe Lakewood School Board Monitors are suppose to be experts and you see how well that worked. They created higher budget deficits then when they started and antagonized everyone. Nobody can predict the future so even the OU or Aguda wouldn’t know. But maybe the posters in the YWN coffee room will have a better solutions.
The yeshivas will have to provide transportation for 1.5 students for every student funded by the state through greater efficiency.
Will the current staggering system generate enough savings to provide school busing for all. I don’t know, only time will tell.
Abba_SParticipantThere are laws prohibiting cruelty to animals both in Jewish and secular law. Do they extend to bugs? I know there is a court case concerning whether monkeys who retired from show business can be caged or do they have to be set free.
Is hunting for sport permitted according to Jewish Law? I think it’s prohibited. According to Jewish Law you can’t chop down a fruit tree just because you want too so surely a living creature can’t be killed just because you want too.
Abba_SParticipantAre you allowed to kill a creature just because you hate it? If you did it to a dog or cat, you would go to jail. How are these bugs bothering you? Do you want to get rid of these bugs once and for all. Then use a bug spray as they will not only kill the bug but discourage others from coming. They make scented bug spray that do smell nice, they just cost more.
Abba_SParticipantYou can’t be bullied unless you allow it. If it’s verbal you can ignore it or respond with a smart retort. The bully only enjoys seeing you in pain. If he can’t get that satisfaction he will move on to the next victim. If it is physical then you need to learn to block or dodge his kicks or punches. You will find he usually telegraphs his move so it’s easy. Kick him in the knee or ankle and he will topple over. Don’t worry about his friends, they wouldn’t come to his defense. Once you knock him down he wouldn’t bother you again.

Abba_SParticipantSL There is Kosher food at JFK in the following terminals for future refrence:
Terminal 2 Fresko Green label at Gates C61, 65, 66, & 70 have CIBO EXPRESS
Dunkin Food Court
Terminal 5 Fresko Green label all are CIBO EXPRESS Opposite Gate 5
Terminal 8 Fresko Green label CIBO EXPRESS
All sandwiches are star K. No body is going to deliver to a traveler in the terminal.
Abba_SParticipantPerson1 If you want to save tree just buy e-books no paper needed. This is happening with many newspapers and magazine. Writing a whole page as one long run on sentence may sound like a good idea but it would be difficult to read and comprehend.
Abba_SParticipantMeno- tomatoes have seeds like a fruit but their blessing is the same as a vegetable.
August 16, 2016 7:42 pm at 7:42 pm in reply to: Is the $7600 per couple offer on the main page a scam??? #1180681Abba_SParticipantJust goes to show that YWN coffee room monitors don’t censor the threads.
Abba_SParticipantWhat is the question? Do you want to know if you can dye it?
Abba_SParticipantWhy are tornadoes bad? It is merely a very strong wind. Everything G-d does is good you just don’t understand why he did it and what the benefit was. During hurricanes if the wind gust are high there is a chance of a tornado so you might have lived through it especially in NYC without even knowing. Out on the plains you should look for bomb shelter to stay in until it passes.
Abba_SParticipantPyramid schemes work but they are illegal.
August 16, 2016 5:16 pm at 5:16 pm in reply to: women and guys in a not jewish college together #1175280Abba_SParticipantIn both the workplace and school there are regulation governing “Unwanted Touching” called EEO Regulations so you shouldn’t feel uncomfortable about not shaking hands.
There are only three sins that you should be killed rather than commit: 1) worship idols 2) murder another Jew 3) commit an immoral act with the opposite sex. Touching is prohibited by the sages and would fall under this last category. If on the other hand the choice was between eating ham and living or keeping kosher and dying you should eat the ham and live. Likewise if you had a choice of work on Shabbos and live or keep the Shabbos and die you should work on Shabbos.
You are going to college which is a sea of knowledge, be careful that you are not swept away by a riptide from your Jewish heritage.
