A23Participant
There is nothing 100% assur about Facebook, on the other hand, smoking is obviously 100% assur.
A23ParticipantBombmaniac: in a word, yes.
A goy or even a MO person can choose his shirt, his pants, his shoes, etc. For chasidim, all of it is uniform and the only thing that can be different without too many people complaining are glasses.
A23ParticipantChasidim especially like them because it’s really the only way to express individuality.
A23ParticipantDoes he wear a hat?
Does he go to minyan three times a day?
Does he have a set rebbe?
Was he in the aleph or bais shiur in high school?
Has he ever been to Florida?
What did he do last summer?
A23ParticipantWhile I have no answer, you are obviously very considerate of others.
A23ParticipantYeshivaBochur, I think you’re on to something. The only problem is finding a jurisdiction that allows for this…
A23ParticipantThere are frum yidden with dogs. However, ideally, I think frum yidden should not have dogs.
A23ParticipantI’m pretty sure the Novominsker went to Brooklyn College. So did Rav Chaim Halberstam (of Bobover lineage).
A23ParticipantI think now this post should list which schools are open.
A23ParticipantI’m surprised Dave Hirsch has no comment here.
A23ParticipantIf he lived in the United States, then he would have been arrested for it.
A23Participantsh.kop, you canceled your subscription because they had an article about Reb Chaim’s grandson, who was a gadol in his own right??
December 19, 2010 8:42 pm at 8:42 pm in reply to: Chinuch: Would you allow a game console (Wii/PS3/XBOX) or not? #719728A23ParticipantYeah, I think the Wii is a good choice. Keep in mind these devices can access the internet (it could even grab it from a neighbor who has an unsecured network, which is common). Keep the device in a public place.
A23ParticipantTMB, that’s not always true. In some states, once the broker brings a ready, willing, and able buyer, the broker has earned the commission.
A23ParticipantYou’re complaining about a magazine that actually gives a balanced perspective on Jewish life?
You’ve actually convinced me to go out and buy it. Yiddishkeit in Brooklyn is stifled by the ultra-conservatives. The progressives need a voice.
A23ParticipantI think this is one of the great dilemmas of shidduchim. I think that NewUserName’s observation does have some potency as I’ve noticed it myself, yet it is extremely unfair to the children of divorce.
A23ParticipantI know nine people who had this done. Even after a year, most of them are still obese and overweight. In fact, only one or two can qualify for the ‘normal’ category.
I think that if you’re really serious about losing weight, you should just follow the time-tested method of losing: take in less calories than you expend. As a bonus tip: take in less by dieting, expend more through exercise.
A23ParticipantDo they know you saw them? Do they know you personally? Was it in public? With other people?
A23ParticipantIt’s not as horrible as it sounds, Gavra. Various tzedakos hired us for our valuable lists and experienced callers. What did you think? The tzedakos have a staff of people making calls the whole year? Generally, they just hired us out for 2-3 weeks for a campaign. All different sorts of tzedakos hired us: litvish, Chasidish, mordern, etc. These were reputable tzedakos and many of them are well-respected.
A23ParticipantAs someone who worked for one of the companies, I can tell you that the callers themselves absolutely do not get any commission from these tzedakah calls. The owner also claimed that they did not get a commission either, and just charged an hourly rate for providing callers and lists, etc.
A23ParticipantObama-Biden. No need to shake things up.
December 12, 2010 2:57 pm at 2:57 pm in reply to: Shaitle Fraud Chillul Hashem Video: Sha'ar haTumah haChamishim #718091A23ParticipantLeave it to the Post to write an article on this…ten days late.
A23ParticipantWolf, it depends on who’s looking. But yes, there have been times I dropped a coin or two and decided not to pick it up based on this anti-semitic issue.
A23ParticipantBesides for those I passed through driving to Florida once and Baltimore once, I’ve only been to NY, NJ, MD and FL. Where else would a yid need to go?
A23Participantdunno, I can’t promise, but I think it will last for what you describe.
A23ParticipantThe iPhone 4 can definitely last at least a full day.
A23ParticipantIt happened to me near Flatbush Avenue. I was walking and right after I passed a group of goyim they threw some coins in my direction and started laughing.
I have never picked up a coin (any denomination) from the floor in public. I think it can definitely make a minor chillul Hashem.
A23ParticipantI tried them, thought I would love it. It tasted really bad.
A23ParticipantRather than ask the CR, I’d ask 311.
A23ParticipantMust sugarfree.
December 7, 2010 1:58 am at 1:58 am in reply to: Kosher Activities For Teenage Girls On Motzei Shabbos #885543A23ParticipantSay tehillim.
Have a bracha party to make up for the lesser amount of brachos on Shabbos.
Go to shiurim.
Proofread each others shidduch resumes.
Bake cookies for tzedakah.
A23ParticipantAsk the Pope.
A23ParticipantIt’s called mirroring.
A23ParticipantModerators? It definitely seems like there are some underhanded posts here…
A23ParticipantHadaLXTP,
Are you English? Do English people understand them better? Those accents are crazy.
A23ParticipantBetween RustyBrick’s Siddur, YWN Radio, cRc Kosher, and iTalmud, I can’t even think of another app I would ever need (besides Angry Birds, of course).
A23ParticipantI don’t think there is anything like what you’ve asked for, especially if you want your own domain name (e.g., beinhasedorim.com).
You’ve got to pay something.
A23ParticipantIt’s not up anymore, but it’s in their archives. Unless someone submitted the story to Drudge, I guess someone is reading YWN over there. Just a lesson to the editor to always be sure to make a Kiddush Hashem and not, Heaven forbid, the reverse.
A23ParticipantNow they have hats with the Borsalino logo in a small place on the outside band, I personally hate that, but I’ve seen several people with those.
November 17, 2010 2:12 pm at 2:12 pm in reply to: Inviting Non-Jewish Co-Workers To A Simcha? #1143899A23ParticipantA Woman outside bklyn, which halachos do you rely on to say that going into a mosque is out of the question?
A23ParticipantSome blocks off of Thirteenth barely have any spots because they’re full of driveways. Many of them are certainly illegal, because regulations don’t allow driveways to be so close together.
November 12, 2010 3:25 pm at 3:25 pm in reply to: Do You Put Out A Flag On American Holidays? #1023064A23ParticipantNo
November 11, 2010 1:46 pm at 1:46 pm in reply to: Fathers and brothers dancing with the Kallah #709162A23Participantmyfriend,
Please tell me where in Shulchan Aruch this aveirah can be found.
A23ParticipantUngarish
A23ParticipantAinOhdMilvado, please see MosheEmes’s post and stop listening to everything Limbaugh and Co. feed you.
Just like there is a Republican Party, so too there is a Democratic Party. They are both in the adjective form.
A23ParticipantPoster, you’re probably thinking about their Shtiglitz herring.
A23ParticipantSacrilege,
Of course they heard. It was on my resume and my personal statement was about the fateful day I tried this new delicacy.
A23ParticipantAnyone ever try herring in yogurt? It’s much better than you’d think.
A23ParticipantPopa, it was okay. I went somewhere else on that list. While I didn’t apply to all of them, the only one that did reject me was Cornell, so I’ve developed an irrational hatred of them.
A23ParticipantPopa,
Ever since Cornell rejected me, they no longer deserve a position as a ‘top’ school.
