Who managed to stay up 1st nite of Schowu’os?
Who managed to stay up 2nd nite of Schowu’os?
147ParticipantIt is easy to come up with a situation in which Orthodox Jews are persecuted It is already happening with orthodox Jews getting totally “out of line” jail sentences on pettiest of crimes. This is coming to be a new form of lynching in this day & age in the USA.
May 17, 2015 3:52 am at 3:52 am in reply to: Please be mispallel for the Bronx train derailment victims #1081617147ParticipantMy Amtrak speedily build a tripper right before this sharp curve to automatically halt a train going to fast.
Likewise, may Metro-north speedily build a tripper before this sharp curve in spuyten Duyvil, Bronx to automatically halt a train going too fast.
This deadline of December 31, 2015, is far too long to await, as we again tragically saw this past week.
147ParticipantAny Jewish school is doing an infinitely more respectable job than this filthy school that was teaching its unsuspecting young boys to spite Medinas Yisroel, as was reported on YWN this past week.
147ParticipantWe recite Tachnun only once this week, and at that:- Long Tachnun, but no short Tachnun this week. Sunday & Tuesday mornings, we utilize the same book of Tehillim, but reciting Hallel instead of Tachnun.
147ParticipantGoGoGo:- I hope you & trust that you’ll still be amenable to say “Yom Yerusholayim Sameach” and recite Hallel, and after that, please feel free not to say anything else.
147ParticipantI feel priveleged every time I go to the Kosel.</e,> Hence it is our wonderful privilege to be celebrating this wonderful day of Yom Yerusholayim, for the 48th time.
My daughter once showed me the best place to daven at the kosel. Imaofthreee:- Your daughter is an exceedingly smart woman, and so correct in her assertion.
I hereby wish all Yehudim without any exceptions:- A sincere Yom Yerusholayim Sameach. We are all Mechuoyovim to appreciate the incredible Nissim veNiflo’aus that haShem in His infinite Wisdom & mecy, bestowed upon us, this very day, 48 years ago.
May 15, 2015 2:09 am at 2:09 am in reply to: Daven With A Hat BeYichidus or Without it with a Minyan #1082275147ParticipantJoseph & DaasYochid:- Let’s get this straight once & for all:- Nothing ever gets in the way of commencing Tefillo b’Tzibur;
Certainly, not lack of a hat, and certainly pray Mincho before sunset without a hat, rather than after sundown with a hat; Certainly never ever arrive late to Shacharis, but always come at least 5 minutes early, so that you have Tallis & Tefillin on before Shacharis commences, so can get up to Tefillo b’Tzibur without skipping:- Only thing that can possibly be skipped at Shacharis is a hat by dint of your Tallis on your head.
If running to catch a Minjan is going to put you out of breath and jeopardize your health or state of mind, forgo the hat to have time to walk biMenuchas Nefesh, but don’t ever risk missing Tefillo b’Tzibur for any lame duck reason such as a hat.
147ParticipantTake a gratis ride on the Staten Island Ferry, gratis in both directions.
If however, you absolutely want the Marriott, there are always the glass elevators @Manhattan Marriott, where you can ride up & down in the glass elevators.
147ParticipantIs Rawnhurst near sight of last nite’s tragic Amtrak crash?
I was on the tragic Metro North crash on December 1, 2013 A.K.A. Revi’i Shel Chanukah 5774, and I had been hoping that trains going too fast around sharp bends would have been a thing of the past, and am now traumatized to see, that it is not, and that the new technology which had been mandated after that tragedy, was not implemented in time to avert last nite’s deadly tragedy.
May 10, 2015 11:04 pm at 11:04 pm in reply to: And faster, and FASTER, AND FASTER AND……. CRASH!! #1076387147ParticipantAnd faster, and FASTER, AND FASTER AND……. CRASH!! so how about arriving in Shul on time, which for Shacharis by definition means 5 minutes early to lay Tallis & Tefillin before commencement of services, so one never has to Daven fast to keep up, & can comfortably make Tefillo bTzibur.
May 10, 2015 11:01 pm at 11:01 pm in reply to: Having a hard time concentrating during Shemonei Esray? #1076455147ParticipantConcentrate on 1st Benediction of Amidah.
If we truly believe that we are Davening to Hashem we would always arrive on time at Shul, which by definition for Shacharis means 5 minutes early, so that we have Tallis & Tefillin on before commencement of services, and no cell phone would ever go off in Shul, nor would anyone ever answer a cell phone in Shul.
147Participantscared driver delight:- & did you get married over the phone? or were you too scared to get married? & so are still single?
147ParticipantWho is Reb Binyomin? The youngest of the 12 tribes, whose birthday is on marCheshvon 11th, in conjunction with the untimely death of Rochel Imeinu on marCheshvon 11th.
May 6, 2015 2:14 am at 2:14 am in reply to: HaRav Shmuel Auerbach: We Must Follow the Path of Gedolei Hadoros Not New Things #1077264147ParticipantWe Must Follow the Path of Gedolei Hadoros i.e. we Israeli Citizens must go and vote for the religious parties, in order to strengthen religious representation in the Israeli government. Talking anyone out of voting, is going against Da’as Torah of the leading Gedolei haDor.
& not new things This is nothing new; The Chazon Ish already Paskened that we must vote for religious parties at all Israeli elections.
147ParticipantPeople have been schmoozing in shul for centuries if not millenia. Akuperma:- This is 1/2 correct but also 1/2 incorrect. Unfortunately as you said this became such a rampant problem in Ashkenazik Shuls, that this is often proffered as 1 of the reasons why a holocaust was necessary; On the end of the spectrum, this was an almost non extant problem in Sephardii Shuls, and hence that for the most part, Sephardi were just about totally spared from the Holocaust.
147ParticipantLet the Rabbi address how bad cell phones are in Shul; When he gets this accross, equate all forms of talking to repulsiveness & abomination of talking on cell phones during services.
147ParticipantYou forgot July 4th.. Little Froggie:- I am so glad to infer that you are so convinced that Moshiach will have arrived prior to Shiva Ossor b’Tamuz, because if Chas veSholom this weren’t so, how could you Little Froggie consider July 4th to be a good thing? considering that both this year & in 1776, July 4th is Shiva Ossor b’Tamuz [albeit not observed until next day if Chas veSholom Moshicah hasn’t arrived yet], but given that Moshiach shall have arrived by then, then the Sosson & Simcha of Shiva Ossor b’Tamuz shall be Shabbos compliant and we all look forward to July 4th Shiva Ossor celebrations.
147ParticipantIf coalition isn’t resolved by deadline of this Wednesday, even urgenter for Moschiach to step up to the task of solving this crisis once & for all.
147ParticipantCannot wait for 1st glimpse of sun over horizon this Thursday morning, and entire mourning for this Omer is over & done with.
147ParticipantBut with the new princess as well as upcoming elections, most Britons have too much on their hotplate right now, to even think of dealing with their hotplate.
147ParticipantCould a Nazi style party ever rise to power in the US for next 1 year 8 months & 16 & 1/2 days, under Obama rule, more likely to be a communist rise to power than a Nazi rise to power.
147ParticipantThe only Yom Yerushalayim I know of is on July 26 this year. It saddens me that you popa_bar_abba don’t believe that Moschiach shall be here before Tisha b’Ov; I adamantly believe that Moschiach shall be here prior to Tisha b’Ov hence that my 2nd Yom Yerusholayim this year shall be on Shabbos July 25th and not on Sunday July 26th, because being that Tishab’Ov shall be a day of “Sosson vSimcha” it shall be Shabbos compliant and no need to postpone it until Sunday Ov 10th A.K.A. July 26th.
147ParticipantHappy Times Are Coming…
1) Lag b’Omer
2) Yom Yerusholayim
3) Shovu’os
147ParticipantYou would be going to Israel for 4 excellent reasons [Each one enough on its own]:-
1) Your date
2) Lag b’Omer
3) Yom Yerusholayim
4) Shovu’os
So getting back to your original question:- Unequivocally:- Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! :- Get on the very next flight to Israel without any tarrying whatsoever.
May 3, 2015 5:15 am at 5:15 am in reply to: ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHOSE FIRST NAMES START WITH Q! Do not read otherwise. #1081533147ParticipantThe name of the Royal baby princess born on Shabbos morning Iyor 13th @8.34AM, is still in “Question” Since still in question, can she read this coffeeroom item, since it is possible she may have a name commencing with letter “Q”?
147Participantjustsmile613:- Even I know that Israel is just about the safest place on earth, and in Israel I have no problem letting my very young children go out alone and on public transportation, and even very late at nite. …. No way in Baltimore.
Rav Chaim Kanievsky shlita & Rav Shteinamn shlita have on numerous occasions told people to stay in Israel, and it’s their safest option to stay put in Israel.
April 30, 2015 10:30 pm at 10:30 pm in reply to: I'm going to Eretz Yisrael-looking for ideas, advice… #1111569147ParticipantThere is this person who rents out apartments in Geulo @$75 per nite.
April 30, 2015 10:26 pm at 10:26 pm in reply to: What will be the first song you listen to? #1074375147ParticipanthaTikva, being stationed between Yom ha’atzmaut & Yom Yersuholayim.
147ParticipantI think I’ll stay in New York. cherrybim:- What a smart decision on your part. I couldn’t agree more wholeheartedly with you, about how awful & unbecoming is Baltimore; There being no school buses:- I can tell you how often kids are missing school with car ride arrangements falling through at last moment.
147ParticipantI’ll be more than delighted to host you & your family Goldilocks at our forthcoming Yom Yerusholayim Seudo, after we recite Hallel together, and we can enjoy these blue & white cookies for dessert.
BTW we hope IYH in 2 years time for 1/2 century celebration of Yom Yerusholayim to spend it in Yerusholayim thru Shovu’os:- If you Goldilocks hear of any good offers around then, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
147ParticipantAny Jew who hasn’t already evacuated Baltimore is being Mevatel a Mitzvah Asseh de’Oraisso of “veNishmartem Me’od leNafshosechem” each & every second that s/he is remaining in Baltimore.
147ParticipantEveryone please vacate Baltimore immediately, even now tonite, before it is too late, and before mayhem & tragedy strike R’L and take over even the Jewish neighborhoods.
Especially serious, as there is no death penalty in Maryland, so absolutely nothing to deter hooligans.
147ParticipantI Yom Yerusholayim this year being observed biZemano on Sunday Iyyor 28th? or is it being Nidche to Monday Iyyor 29th? to avoid potential Chillul Shabbos prior to evening Of Motzei Schabbos Iyyor 28th?
April 28, 2015 2:20 am at 2:20 am in reply to: ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHOSE FIRST NAMES START WITH Q! Do not read otherwise. #1081518147ParticipantMy 1st name is Quincy. But this is such an unusual name, that it is easier to be known in this coffee room by a #.
147Participantmany people, and rabbonim, hold that you can switch, from year to year, This is indeed so, and when I got married 1st time, got married during week after Passover mourning during 2nd 1/2, whereas when I got remarried, I got married during the week of Yom Yerusholayim, having mourned during 1st 1/2.
147ParticipantLittle Froggie:- You should have shaven this past week when the Availus was suspended for Yom h’Atzmaut.
147ParticipantRotten Baltimore.
147Participantcozimjewish:- “Your assertion is on the ball, and so absolutely correct.” Implies that I am serious and this is for real, and am not joking.
147ParticipantThe Rabbi said in his speech yesterday, that Tzora’as can only occur in Israel, and you MameshhTov98 mentioned that yesterday was “sazria-Metrorah”, so by definition you MameshhTov98 must have been in the Disapora where Tzora’as cannot transpire, because if you had been in Israel, you would have been saying that yesterday was “Acharei-Mos-Kedoshim”.
147ParticipantGo to a Kohen and let him determine your status. Coming to the coffee room shan’t solve your status.
147ParticipantRent the hall for a Friday lunchtime wedding. All halls have a reduced rate for a Friday Chasuno; You would also be following an ancient Talmudic time practice.
BTW Tu b’Ov is a Friday this year, so this would be a great thing to do for the young couple.
147Participantcozimjewish:- Your assertion is on the ball, and so absolutely correct. BTW:- In light of this, I usually end up blessing Birkas haIlanos twice annually, once in Tishri whilst in Australia, & once in Nisson whilst in England or Israel.
I also usually manage to coordinate my schedule, to be in Australia over Shiva Ossur bTamuz, and to be in England over Assoro bTeves.
But the flip-back cozimjewish is having to file taxes in 3 countries, and I require the specialized services of an International accountant, as this is quite complex to say the least.
April 26, 2015 3:33 am at 3:33 am in reply to: Bracha Shailah – and yes, I am asking my Rov #1073818147ParticipantMy rov said she has to wash, make Hamotzi and bensch. Did your Rov also tell you that she could wash, make Hamotzi & bensch over it for her Seudas Yom ha’Atzmaut?
147ParticipantGateshead is like 400 Miles from London Zhavasdad:- I assume you mixed up kilometers with miles as 400 kilometers is 248&1/2 miles, and even this is underestimated, as London to Gateshead is approximately 270 miles=434&1/2 kilometers. {Measured from Golders Green, slightly nearer than being measured from Piccadilly Circus in Central London}.
Mameshtov please bear in mind that Motzei Shabbos in Leeds at height of summer is not until 11.08PM, so this may be past your bed time and may make you wish to reconsider moving to Leeds.
147ParticipantWill these cookies still be available for Yom Yerusholayim?
Meanwhile, today I consumed Green & Red cookies in honor of the “Yerakak au Adamadom”.
147ParticipantI am seconding RebYidd23’s remarks; Zionism is great, and our 67 year old Medinah is indeed Reishit Tzemichat Ge’Uloseinu.
147ParticipantIs seeing a doctor dangerous Study last Posuk of Rischon of Mischpotiem, and then come back to the coffee room, if you still could possibly not have clarity.
147ParticipantI assume that this Beth Din who would not convene on Rosh Chodesh, only worked 1 day this week, namely on Tuesday. They were too frum to work on Sunday & Monday because of Rosh Chodesh, then on Wednesday because of Yom haZikoron, and especially @11AM during the 2 minutes of Silence, then on Thursday because of Yom h’Atzmaut Mukdom, then on Friday because of Yom ha’Atzmaut biZemano.
B’H the women in that saga, had some good souls who tweeted immediately, & B’H less than 1 hour thereafter, 3 other Rabbis responded to the tweet and on almost no notice convened a Beth Din within 1 hour and dispensed a Get on Rosh Chodesh.
April 23, 2015 11:01 pm at 11:01 pm in reply to: If this is what we've been waiting 2000 years for… #1073696147ParticipantBut we do have part of what we waited so long for. “Resihit Tzemichat Ge’uloteinu” Make no mistake about it. This is an absolute reality.
