how’s ny and nj doing? Wonderful without snow. & let it stay this way.
We love NYC & Manhattan, and thank goodness, even when it does snow, it is the super’s job to clean up, and not our job to clear the snow.
Of-course:- As much as we love Manhattan, Yerusholayim is Home!!
December 23, 2012 11:18 pm at 11:18 pm in reply to: Dreaming About Food – Whaf Are You Eating To Break Taanis? #915035147ParticipantMeat & wine, although next year, in the inverse order:- wine & meat as I must first consume wine for Kiddush.
147ParticipantThank you, and may we be Zochim to celebrate at the Bais haMikdosh in future years.
Until such time, Assoro b”teves can occur on a Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, but never on a Monday nor on a Saturday.
BTW, next year, Assoro b’Teves Shall be on a Friday. In 11 & 12 years time, Assoro b’Teves shall be 2 years running on a Friday, that being 51 years after the previous time, it was 2 years running on a Friday.
147ParticipantCan someone called Batsheva name her baby Elisheva?
Why not?
147ParticipantTalking about Leitzonus, how is it, that none of the Seforim consider the 10 tribes who condemned Yosef to death and sold him into slavery are considered Leitzonim & bad for this harrowing act?
The mere fact that they were so ashamed by Yosef’s revelation speaks volumes of how they know how badly they erred.
147ParticipantHebrew is even awesomer. because haShem’s blueprint A.K.A. The Torah is written in Hebrew.
This is in addition to the # of roots & nouns etc. that share common letters and hence are interconnected, so Hebrew is the awesomest of all languages.
147ParticipantToi
I know R’ Ehrentreu personally. He is an amazing talmid chacham and gaon. He also is quite personable. and a Mohel
147ParticipantChes Teves can occur on a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday; But never on a Thursday not Saturday.
147ParticipantWho knew there were so many YWN users from across the pond
YWN and its coffee room, is a forum for all Anglo Saxons across the entire planet of earth, and not just reserved exclusively for New Yorkers.
In other words:- The sun never sets over this coffee room, just as the sun never sets over the British Empire = the jurisdiction of the Chief Rabbi.
147Participant2) Dayan Ehrentreu is retired, but is very active in the community and still travels Europe extensively for the CER and in other capacities.
The new Av Beis-Din who took over his position is Dayan Menachem Gelley, albeit already several years ago.
BTW:- All Jewish marriages & Divorces & conversions in the UK, are registered at the London Beth Din. Even if some Chareidi Rabbi solemnizes a marriage, it shall still end up being registered with the registrar of the London Beth Din.
When some marriage does not work out, there is no hanky panky about a Get, because the London Beth Din will have the appropriate records.
Furthermore, when someone gets married, they take down all contact information of every brother of the Chosson, in case of Chas veSholom a Chalitzo becomes necessary.
147ParticipantEgg Matzo is stronger candidate for Benediction of “Mezonos” than is so called Mezonos bread; So notwithstanding, if someone is still planning to utilize egg Matzo for haMotzie on Shabbos Erev Pesach [2021, 2025, 2045, 2048, 2052] then Kal vChomer that such people should be reciting haMotzie over Mezonos bread.
147ParticipantBeing that Dunkin Donuts is run by Nochrim, I have even procured Donuts on Motzei Pesach, as clearly the donut was in ownership of Nochri during time of Pesach.
147ParticipantThis is an extremely tricky issue via a vis the prayers towards end of Selichos of “Machnisei Rachamim”
147ParticipantUneeq:- Add to your list:- That the young lady should be in between 1-5 years older than you.
This is your Hishtadlus to blast away the Shidduch crisis. Midoh k’Neged Midoh, haShem shall take care of the rest.

2) Enhance Kedusha of Yom Yerusholayim
3) Support Medinat Yisrael unequivocally
147ParticipantThank you R.T. for 2nd motioning me.
147ParticipantThere’s nothing stopping you from staying here (or wherever you are) and just fasting a few extra hours
There may be no Issur of fasting a few extra hours this year, but next year when the few extra hours shall be Leil Shabbos, this will not be allowed, so next year, the only way of feeling more anguish by an elongated fast without belittling Shabbos, will verily be, by going to the Southern Hemisphere.
147ParticipantTachnun {being a Supplication} is an extension of the Amidah, and hence should be recited as closely as possible to the Amidah; Being recited after Chazoras haShatz implies that Chazoras haShatz is considered as if everyone is reciting it, and naturally the inverse is:- How serious it is to talk or conduct any other activity during Chazoras haShatz.
This being in addition to a Pesak that my Rosh Yeshiva ZT’L gave me decades ago.
147ParticipantIn have never lit a Menorah. Only thge Kohen at the Bais haMikdosh [or at the Mishkon] has ever lit a Menorah.
But I have lit a Chanukiyah 8 times each year.
147ParticipantMy new Chumro is to give thanks to haShem and be Makir Tov. To this end I shall recite full Hallel on Yom ha’Atzmaut & on Yom Yerusholayim, in recognition of the wonderful Nissim that haShem bestowed upon we Jewish people.
My other Chumro is, that when I attend a Mincho Minyan that habitually omits Tachnun for no valid reason whatsoever, I recite Tachnun before the cantor commences Chazoras haShatz.
My 3rd Chumro is that I shall spend a few days in the Southern Hemisphere this coming weekend, so that I can really feel the full impact of the tragedies of Assoro b’Teves by fasting at the summer solstice.

147 – that’s interesting, but I personally found the haftorah hard to understand.
Rav Berel Wein shlita has a tape on the Haftoro of Beha’aloscho A.K.A. Chanukah.
Curiosity I am unsure when we historically started celebrating Chanukah,

147ParticipantYesterday’s Haftoro of “Roni vSimchi Bas Zion” is generally taken to be referring to the 3rd Bais-haMikdosh, in light of the fact that the prophesies being prophesied by Zechariah did not transpire during the 2nd Bais haMikdosh, so refer to Haftoro of Neiros Zechariah to answer you queries about Chanukah at the 3rd Bais haMikdosh.
147ParticipantThe drama of Yosef will come to its dramatic climax in Parshas Sheni of this week’s Sidra.
147ParticipantOU has very Choshuv & eminent Rabbonim on their Va’ad, & it is 100% Motzi Shem La’az & unacceptable to in any way denigrate these Gedolei haDor.
OU is a top notch Hechsher, and we should all be Makir Tov for the wonderful work they do for us.
December 16, 2012 3:20 pm at 3:20 pm in reply to: The Weberman Trial By 5TJT Staff (this brought tears to my eyes) #913476147ParticipantThank you so much weberman for having reinforced my conviction, that this coming Iyor, just 4 months away, I shall IY’H definitely be observing Yom ha’Atzma’ut, and I shall also IY’H definitely be observing Yom Yerusholayim, and I shall always fly to Israel with EL AL, to patronize this Jewish Airline.
These are my 3 oaths, and every Satmar must undertake these 3 oaths which would just be the very beginning of a Kapporo for the terrible Chilul haShem that has evolved over this past week.
December 16, 2012 3:32 am at 3:32 am in reply to: Muttar for a Rabbi to discuss the awful shooting on Shabbos? #913252147ParticipantWe talk about the Mekoshesh Eitzim on Shabbos Shelach Lecho & about murderers going to Orei Miklot on Shabbos Massei, so of-course these topics can be discussed on Shabbos.
December 15, 2012 11:38 pm at 11:38 pm in reply to: Connecticut elementary school shooting — our thoughts and prayers #913312147ParticipantSo now Mike Bloomberg has his work cut out, for his remaining 54 weeks in office:- Get all Guns off All Streets of America. This must be his sole & only occupation for the remainder of his time in office, so much so, that he doesn’t even have a single spare moment to attack MBP.
Meanwhile, Obama’s most important mission for his 2nd term in office has to be to get thru an amendment to the 2nd amendment, as Rights to bear Arms, is obviously nowadays far too dangerous to continue unabated as is.
147ParticipantFirst things first. Make sure that the neighborhood is on very high ground, way above sea level. This case you shall IY’H never have to worry about any futures coastal flooding nor hurricanes.
This also shall be a wonderful opportunity to fulfill first hand, the Mitzwah of “vNishmartem Me’od lNafshoseichem”

Now this week, we have seen the full truth of how correct Rav Avigdor Miller ZT’L was. I heard him say so many times, that psychiatrist themselves require a psychiatrist, and counselors themselves require a counselor.
This was true Da’as Toroh of the highest caliber.
Meanwhile, Rav Avigdor Miller ZT’L is probably busy introducing his [oldest] son-in-law to Yeshiva Shel Ma’aloh & to Gan Eden.
December 14, 2012 4:16 am at 4:16 am in reply to: Should kids have locks on their bedroom doors? #1002501147ParticipantEveryone is entitled to their privacy, and hence is entitled to a lock on their bedroom door, if they so wish.
This is not to say, that their parents have to pay for the lock. The kids can utilize their pocket money for this door lock, if they so wish to install a lock.
December 14, 2012 4:13 am at 4:13 am in reply to: Chassidish Minhagim and which Chassidus does it #972661147ParticipantI was at the lighting of the world’s largest Menorah tonite, on 5th Avenue & 59th Street.
It was truly shocking & a Chilul haShem of unbelievable proportion, to have 4 Naturei Karta guys protesting & screaming at full blast, about how Macabees would have shunned Medinat Yisrael.
Tonite being Rosh Chdoesh Teves and hence just over 4 months left until Yom ha’Atzmaut, I courteously wished them a happy Yom ha’Atzmaut.
147ParticipantVolvo is supposed to be one of the sturdiest cars around, and hence one of the safest in the unfortunate case of an accident.
147ParticipantBeware that many parev foods include heavy dosages of Soya, of which many of us are allergic to.
Furthermore, consuming Parev Cheesecake on Shovu’os defeats the reasons for consuming Dairy on Shovu’os.

147ParticipantTo be eligible to be a Dayan on this Beth Din, you have to pass 3 oaths:-
a) Be Shomer Shabbos
b) Be Shomer Yom ha’Atzmaut
c) Be Shomer Yom Yerushilayim
147Participantthere not having this thing again
I am having this again on September 8, 2040, when I am having 01/01/01 on Rosh haShono 5801.

Will you be fasting on Dec 25 and Jan 1st?
Sure! Absolutely! I am planning on fasting on Dec 25, 2020, and on Jan 1, 2015
147Participantto learn the 12 Prophets visit the OU Nach Yomi page or simply procure the 12 cassettes that Rav Berel Wein put out on the 12 Prophets:- 1 entire cassette on each Novie.
147ParticipantTo me 12 is significant, because this coming Shabbos shall be the 5th Shabbos in a row that we read the Haftoro from the Trei Ossor = the 12 prophets. Please note, I called them “the 12 prophets”, and not “the 12 minor prophets”. Each book may be short, but these were 12 unbelievable major people, and absolutely not minor in any way nor manner. It is a Bizoyon to even contemplate utilizing an appellation of “minor”.
Not so long ago, we were analyzing 12 births of 12 tribes.
December 12, 2012 7:26 pm at 7:26 pm in reply to: Throwing bleach at R' Nuchem Rosenberg to achieve justice? #912402147ParticipantIt is 100% Ossur to throw bleach on anybody, just as it is 100% Ossur to throw any stone at any car on Shabbos or any other time.
Plenty people became religious thru attending a Seder nite invitation, or Shabbos meal, or Chanukah lighting invitation or being invited into someone’s Sukkah, but no-one ever became frum from having bleach nor stones cast at them, nor from Tzeni’us policing.
People have even become motivated from having flown to Israel with El Al, and praying at the Kossel.
147ParticipantBased on yesterday’s Haftoro of vaYeshev from Sepher Amos, tragically, people will do anything for a pair of shoes. Nothing has changed since Amos’s time thru to our time.
147ParticipantBoruch Hashem 1 is out of touch with reality. I know plenty choshuv Rabbonim and other people, whose wives are older than their husbands, but are very harmoniously married, and for a long time already.
If this is not enough to convince you about how correct Nasi is, take a look at Chassidic circles, where there is no Shidduch crisis, and they marry people in their age group.
I have never met a man who married a woman older & is miserable, but I have met numerous men who turned down a woman older than they are, and now years later are still single & miserable and bitterly regretting their having turned down this slightly older lady, years ago.

147ParticipantBoth “popa bar abba” & “Just me” hit the nail exactly on the head, and are 100% correct in their advice & response.
“Iced” is totally incorrect. Such long dates, are the best way to weed out a person with problems. Just about anyone can put on a show for a couple of hours. No-one can put on a show, for such an extended amount of time of 10+ hours, and if indeed the fellow has some problem, it will surly surface in an extended date, and give that you “micro” are still interested in him after such a long date, implies that highly unlikely that he is hiding a major flaw from you.
