I don’t get it. You’re in ‘serious shidduchim’ meaning you’re not yet engaged? – what are you doing then eating with your not-yet-fiance’s grandparents?

Talmud:- I will help you get it; You should read the letter in this week’s Yated Ne’eman Shidduch Forum, and I think that then, even you will get it.

If the young lady is trying to extricate a proposal from the young gentleman, inviting him to her grandparents, or/& asking them to invite him, is a wonderful way of indicating her desire for a proposal.

It is also a very strong observance of the 5th commandment, so a wonderful preparation for next week’s Parshah of Yisro.

As for you rebdoniel, just bring yourself in a french cuff shirt cleaned at a cleaner, and any gift is just fine.

But 1 more thing rebdoniel:- Please keep us posted of any & all developments after this weekend.

Needless to say, make sure that you can communicate & converse in French. After all, Montreal is the 2nd biggest French speaking city, on this planet.

& anyone who didn’t vote for them lost their Cheleq in Olom haBo, as per the Pesak of the Rosh Yeshiva of Ponovitz Yeshiva.

Sushee: I was hoping for Bayit Yehudi to get 15, Otzma 2, Shas 13 and UTJ 8. So as to force Netanyahu into a right wing, Chareidi coalition.

This would have happened if Satmar had not derailed nor sabotaged the elections.

Because of satmar’s unconscionable actions, I hereby am pledging to increase my Zionism:- Reshis Tzemichas Ge’uloseinu, by increasing my observance of Yom ha’Atzmaut & Yom Yerusholayim, by praying more fervently each Shabbos morning during the MisheBeirach for Medinat Yisroel Reshis Tzemichas Ge’uloseinu, and I shall be spending more money at the forthcoming YU Seforim Sale, and I have taken the unexpected decision to make a previously unplanned trip to Israel for Purim, to help boost the Israeli economy & patronize El Al.

However, to the credit of Satmar, I must confess 1 item which I gladly share in common with them:- We are both not members of Agudath Israel of America, due to irreconcilable differences with their Shita.

Thanks to the Satmar stance which cost the religious party many critical votes, they have simply reenforced my conviction to the authenticity of true Zionism, and the concept of Reishis Tzemichas Geuloseinu, and my more meticulous observance of Yom ha’Atazmaut & Yom Yerusholayim, and that I shall spend more money this year at the forthcoming YU Seforim Sale.

This in addition to my unexpected decision to take an extra trip to Israel for Purim, to help Medinas Yisroel & El Al boost their economy.

    Daas Yochid:- Even more disrespectful to go against the Pesak from the Holy Chazon Ish;

But penultimately, the biggest disrespect, is that by not voting, one is tactically voting for the non religious parties, increasing the chances of army drafting for Yeshiva Bochurim, thereby decreasing & disrespecting Toroh study.

its the 9th month the 9th day

Purplicious:- To me this description sounds like Kisslev 9th, or perhaps Sivvon 9th, if counting the months from Rosh haShono.

Tuesday this week being Shevot 11th, is the Jewish 11/11, but clearly Tuesday of Beshalach is not every year, 11/11.

But more pertinently, why isn’t this Seguloh on Thursday of the week of BeShalch? since Parshas haMon commences in Parshas Chamishi of Beshalach.

What is your favorite Masechta in Talmud Bavli??

How about Yerushalmi?????? I have currently learned 2 Massechtos in Yerushalmi, 1 of them being Berochos, and it is awesome.

Unfortunately, I have serious doubts about the whole thing

Because the literature states that this Seguloh is unique to Tu b’Shevat {Something along the lines of the fruit being fruitful and getting married to be fruitful} so either:-

    1) Are they blowing the 1000 Shoforos on Tu b’Shevat on Shabbos? Certainly, 1000 people is enough to make a Sanhedrin.

    2) Are they blowing the Shoforos on some day other than Tu b’Shevat so as not to carry 1000 Shoforos to Amuka in a Reshus hoRabim on Shabbos? thereby missing the Seguloh date of Tu b’Shevat.

I am only aware of 2 Rabbis doing “trash talking” vis a vis the upcoming Israeli Elections. One is a certain Rabbi who deplaned from Delta Airlines earlier today and went to Kikar Shabbos, and the other one, is his estranged brother.

All the other Rabbis including the Rosh Yeshiva of Ponovitz Yeshiva as reported by YWN, are correctly pointing out, that anyone who is religious but not casting a vote, is tantamount to tactical voting for the non-religious parties & increasing the chances of legislature to draft Bochurim out of Yeshiva into the Army. To my limited thinking, this couldn’t be further removed from “trash Taking” and couldn’t be described as anything other than “Sagely taking” and “Correct statistics”.

The way I heard it {not that I have nor claim to have Ruach Nevu’oh}, Irene transpired shortly after same gender marriage became legalized in NY State, whereas Sandy transpired shortly after NYC began obliterating [or should I say, attempting to obliterate] MBP.

Same gender marriage being all of NY State, the worst of Irene struck in Upper NY State, whereas MBP being a NYC Health Department Attack, Sandy struck NYC very badly.

Yekkes historically wear the tallet gadol from the time of bar mitzvah, which the Chofetz Chaim believed was correct.

RebDoniel:- Actually scroll back 1 decade earlier, as Jekkes usually commence wearing a Tallis Godol from about age 3.

Of-course, as you RebDoniel so rightly said, waiting until marriage is not Halocho, and does not have sufficient grounding; i.e. It has no grounding.

This fallacy is based on 2 Pesukim in Parshas Ki-Setze:- 1) Gedilim Ta’aseh Loch etc., immediately followed by the Posuuk of 2) Ki Yikach Ish Isho etc.

The only problem with this ungrounded Limud is, that the verse to wear a Tallis comes before the Possuk of a marriage, so waiting until after the marriage for a Tallis is taking these 2 Pesukim in the wrong order.

Tragically we see bachelors in their 60’s & 70’s who apart from tragically having missed out on the Mitzvos of marriage & procreation, also have missed out on the Mitzwah of Tallis Godol.

I read your site about the forthcoming trip of the Satmar Rebbe to Israel; However, 2 pertinent facts were ominously missing:-

    1) The news item mentioned that many of his followers are accompanying him. However, there was no mention made, if his wife, A.K.A. the grandmother of the Bride is going? & if she is going, is she flying with him? or on another flight exclusively for women?

    2) There is no mention of who shall be Mesader Kiddushin? From the absence of this detail, I assume that the Satmar Rebbe isn’t the Mesader Kiddushin. Maybe a Mesader Kiddushin in Israel by law, has to be licensed by the local Rabbinate in Israel?

The only practical Nafko Mino I can see coming out of this discussion, is given that we continue to hold that a banana is “HoAdomo”, whether if someone accidentally blessed “HoEitz”, could s/he be Yotzei b’Di’Eved? since there could be some grounds for a banana being “HoEitz”; Akin to someone who in error blesses “HoAdomo” on chocolate, is Yes Yotzei b’Di”eved, since chocolate is basically a cocoa bean which come from the earth. [Obviously this wouldn’t not apply to white chocolate].

Did R’ Shlomo Zalman Auerback sit on an egged bus?

More than 30 years ago, I was on a Egged bus going all the way from Yerusholayim to to Tzfat {which in those days went by the Jordan River}, sitting across from Rav Yisroel Zeev Gustman ZT’L. This was the 1st time I heard of him, but this left an indelible impression on me, and I met him several times subsequently, and even seriously considered enrolling at his Yeshiva Netzach Yisroel.

By the way, I also met Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach ZT’L over a 100 times, as I spent 1/2 year in Shaarei Chessed where I saw him daily at Gra Shul, often with him hearing me leading services & doing Kerias haToroh.

So a resounding “Yes”, taht Gedolei Yisroel belong on buses & commercial aviation with the rest of mankind.

Meanwhile when you are performing the Mitzwah of Pidyon haBen, you shall be doing the exact antitheses, buying an extremely close family member, and keeping him close by under your TLC.

I refer you to the response already meted out by Rabbi Boruch Ber Yoffe:- The teacher is a Rosho.

Anyone whoever dealt with teenagers and then saw the same individual years later, knows that teenage-hood [or childhood for that matter] is a phase that we eventually grow out of as we mature, so if the teacher doesn’t know that, she doesn’t belong in a teaching [nor a babysitting] position. Period.

Meanwhile stay away from individuals out to harm us. As for the individual wishing to harm, let haShem sort them out.

Actually today’s Parshas va’Eiro is the worst, as it is just about the very hardest Sidroh for Ba’al Koreh to read.

Chukas-Balak is a makeup double Parsha if the 8th day of Pesach or the 2nd day of Shavuos are Shabbos – This assertion vis a vis is absolutely correct via a vis 2nd day of Shovu’os on a Shabbos.

However if the 8th day pf Pesach is on a Shabbos, in a regular year it is made up with Behar Bechoosai doubling up in the diaspora, and if 8th day of Pessach is on a Shabbos, in a leap year, it is not made up all the way thru Mattos Massei.

rebdoniel hit the nail exactly on the head and straight to the point, just as s/he does in just about all of his/her postings to this coffee room.

It is clear as daylight, that his entire etiquette of not inviting a married or engaged person to a social function with his/her souse/fiance[e] stems entirely from the culture of mixed seating, where it is entirely unheard of, not to seat a married/engaged person next to his/her spouse/fiance[e]. In fact it can be considered so embarrassing for a married man to attend a function without his wife, that there are Halachic rulings allowing an “Isho Aveiles” in mourning to attend a Simcha as part of her marriage obligations to her husband.

Clearly this social etiquette’s reasoning is absolutely obsolete in separate seating functions, and more often than not, the spouse who doesn’t know the other party is so bored and feels so out of place in such scenarios.
