“How Different this nite is from all other nites”!!
This Mah is not “what” which would portend a 5th question. It is an exclamation of “How” as in “Mah Tov” & “Mah No’iem”.
147ParticipantWishing everyone Merry Pessach & a Meaningful Seder.
147ParticipantConsidering that on 1 of Rav Avigdor Miller’s tapes on Pesach, he mentions that haShem took us out of Mitzraim to get married and have Jewish families, hence this is the right tome to be talking about marrying as we are about to re-enact Yetzias Mitzraim.
147ParticipantYou tro11 were Yotzei, but please don’t speak until you get to your bonfire tomorrow morning, as the Berocho is also on the burning.
147ParticipantThisd year we shall have the longest time slot since 1899 between Tzeis haKochovim and Chatzos, due the unusual earliness of the Secular date of Pesach.
However, if your Seder is identical in length each year, this year shall be the earliest finishing line, since 1899.
Despite the 1st Mishno in Arvei pesochim, we always have a very substantial high tea {sometimes hot dogs, fish, salads}, both on Erev Pesach [even when on Shabbos], and Rishon Shel Pesach to tide us thru Motzi Matzo, as clearly 1 raddish on its own shall not be able to accomplish that task.
147ParticipantMaybe by nature of the main industry in Lakewood NJ, there is a huge surplus of boys over girls, which may less apparent in other locations on this globe.
147ParticipantI would rush to the Chuppo tonite or even tomorrow morning in the 1st third of the day when we could still have a formal Seudo with haMotzi, so that I am not stuck waiting 33 days until Lag b’Omer, but only 1 issue is preventing me from doing so:- I am already married, and polygamy is a Federal offence in the United States of America.
147ParticipantIf you cannot get to thegra’s Seder [& I cannot since s/he has not provided us with his/her street address] then procure “Secrets of the Hagaddah” by Rav Matisyohu Glazerson shlita, and you’ll be in great shape with items to mention during the Seder.
March 24, 2013 10:29 pm at 10:29 pm in reply to: Stuffing Your Face w/ Marror, Red as a Tomato #940645147ParticipantThank you Sam2 for reminding everyone how knowledgeable Rav Schachter shlita is, and what a lack of Kovod haToroh it is to say anything against this Odom Godol. I 2nd motion your remarks Sam2.
As far as why many utilize Horseraddish, it is because Morror biZeman haZeh is mideRabbonon, whereas eating even 1 minifestle insect is a Biblical prohibition, and Horseraddish is probably less tricky to clean out than is say Romaine lettuce.
147ParticipantI am Mekayem all 3 Shitos:- Round Hand Baked Matzo; Square Machine Baked Matzo to dip in my coffee; Elliptical Beitzo on my Seder plate.
This way I keep everyone happy, and there are no Machlokes Chas veSholom.
147ParticipantWhen someone comes all the way from out of town, you owe that person an entire weekend, and not just 1 date.
But were you Parshaman in regular phone contact with this person before venturing out? As a general rule, if the date entails out of town travel, have several phone dates before budging anywhere.
Beleive it or not, most of their problems & issues do yes travel down the phone line, and cannot be hidden even over the phone line.
147ParticipantMethylphenadate is listed in the Passover Guide by Kollel Los Angeles.
How about asking them to place you on their mailing list, so that next year thou receive their pamphlet in a timely manner as I do each year, timely manner usually being the week immediately following Purim.
147Participantyoya
english please for those that don’t understand yiddish!!
Yoya:- I 2nd your motion, as Yiddish is an archaic & outdated language. B’H I understand Ivrit, the language of the Torah and Nach & Mishno and numerous Sephorim.
147ParticipantAssuming that you popa_b’ros_abba are in Manhattan [The capital of the world according to many opinions], I don’t know what you are talking about, because tonite is a clear nite.
147ParticipantI hope there shan’t be a follow up question to this about Kasering a denture from milk to meat & vice versea.
Whatever way you King David (& I do realize that you King David are operating on a very tight schedule this year,as you cannot commence your Pesach preparations in earnest until President Obama shall have checked out of the King David Hotel tomorrow some 3 hours before Shabbos) end up handling this situation, just remember on Shabbos Erev Pesach 2021 & 2025, you are one of these individuals who shall simply have to rely on Egg Matzo for Lechem Mishno, as whatever method you do end up using, shall not be a viable option within the confines of Hilchos Shabbos.
147ParticipantMaybe rebdoniel is contemplating for purposes of feeding his family in the days leading up to Pesach in a house already Kosher l’Pesach when one is surely not bound by all the extra Chumros of Pesach.
147ParticipantLeyzer:- I was under the impression that they were supposed to be giving over Halocha?
Thou art One Thousand % correct in your assertion, and even Shabbos Shuvo Sermon is supposed to include some Hilchos Yom Kippur & Hilchos Sukko, in addition to being about repentance.
Once the Rabbi has covered his minimum obligations towards disseminating Halocho, he can follow fashion & do whatever he [or his Board of officers expects] wishes, and most Rabbis want these 2 Shabboss sermons [Shuvo & haGodol} to be different in format from a regular speech.
147ParticipantSam2:- Possibly if the Matzo Mitzwoh is not all the way until Tzofun, but more probable that the Matzo Mitzwoh is the very 1st keZayis, in light of the fact that the Benediction “Al Achilas Matzo” is recited in conjunction with the very 1st keZayis.
If Tzofun would be the prime Mitzwah of Achilas Matzo, it wouldn’t only be very preferable to consume the Afikomon prior to Chatzos, but absolutely mandatory, in light of the fact that the Toroh precribes {in Parchas haChodesh} to meat Matzo “Bo’Orev” [conotation of evening and not the entire nite] unlike Korban Pesach whose time frame is “baLailo HaHu” [Keri’as haToroh of Shishi Shel Pesach].
147ParticipantEither one Zecher L’Pesach and one Zecher L’chagigah or it’s one Zecher L’Pesach and one with which to be Yotzei the Mitzvah of Achilas Matzah.
Actually 1 keZayis is Zecher the actual Korbon Pesach, and 1 keZayis is Zecher the Matzo consumed with the Korban Pesach.
147ParticipantWe went to Aron’s on Kissina Blvd last week, where there is more parking, and tehy helped us put the boxes into our car.
147ParticipantWhy is it called turned over?
Because my Kitchen is in New Zealand.
147ParticipantOn the Staten Island Ferry is gratis.
147ParticipantKisslev 23, 5774 is on a Tuesday, 2 days before Thanksgiving.
That Shabbos is 3rd day of Chanukah, whence Mikketz is the Parsha, but Maftir is 3rd Nossi followed by Haftoro from Zechariah in honor of Chanukah.
Thursday Thanksgiving morning, is Kerias hatoro for 1s day of Chanukah, commencing Chamishi of Nosso. Note carefully, that in that same Kerias HaToro there are 2 widespread Minhogim as to where Sheni commences; 1 is used in most Chutz Lo’Oretz places, and the other is used in Israel & in Yekkish places in Chutz Lo’Oretz as well.
147ParticipantThe reason they send around wooden spoons is to remind us of a very little known Halocho, that just as metal can be Kashered thru Hag’olo, kikewise wood & marble can also be Kashered thru Hag’olo.
From a practical aspect, a wooden spoon is useless to pick up a crumb, a feather being more effective, if really bent on not utilizng one’s fingers.
147ParticipantTalmud:- This year filtering won’t be a Halachic issue as Pesach is a Tuesday, unlike last year when Pesach was on a Shabbos whence filtering is Ossur.
147ParticipantI can offer an excellent solution on not gaining colestorel:- Become a Yekke on Seder nite, as Yekkes don’t consume an egg at the beginning of Shulchon Orech.
147ParticipantRabonim Crusade Against Sushi
There is only 1 crusade I can see against Sushi:- That it cannot be utilized for Eruv Tavshilin, as it is not a cooked food, despite it being very Choshuv in this day & age to serve at a Shabbos meal, especially in a capacity as entree.
No doubt 200 years ago, no-one would have donned a business suit for Shabbos & Yom Tov, and today it is the most commonly worn Shabbos attire. Likewise Sushi has come to be accepted as very respected food.
147ParticipantLay Tefilin with a Berocho as per the Remo.
March 17, 2013 5:03 pm at 5:03 pm in reply to: Jews Celebrating St. Patrick's Day (Parading)? #937647147ParticipantAbout as problematic as a Jew celebrating Easter.
But I hope & trust that it wasn’t problematic for Michael Bloomberg to attend this parade on Shabbos.
As per Halocho, I am Don him leChaf Zechus, that he walked to the parade from Gracy Mansion not to desecrate Shabbos, and even if he did carry something at the parade, I am sure he was relying on the “5th Avenue Synagogue” Eruv, and I am sure that he or 1 of his aides called in on Friday to verify that the Eruv was intact & operational.
Next year after he has left office, he shall have to decide if he is more interested in spending the day on 5th Avenue attending St. Patrick’s Day Parade, or maybe more interested in spending that same day on Rehov Ben Yehuda watching all the costumes on Shushan Purim.
147ParticipantTalmud:- That would be a lot of gig if we were solely utilizing lettuce for our Morror, but since we are solely utilizing horesraddish for our Morror, we require extremely high gig apples in our Charoses to douse the sharpness of the horseraddish Morror.
147ParticipantSyag Lchochma
an ayin is an eye. show them closed eye and say it makes no sound cause it’s sleeping.
Please don’t teach falsehood to your tots. Ayin is not Oleph:- Period!
Ayin does have a sight nasal sound. After all, where do you think the diminutive of Yankel came from Yaakov? Simple:- Because the Ayin in Yaakov as in in all Ayins, has a slight Gutteral/nasalised sound, so please please teach your students the correct & authentic & only way of pronouncing “Ayin”. Thank you.
147ParticipantI am procuring apples this week to make my Charoses.
March 17, 2013 1:52 pm at 1:52 pm in reply to: Jews Celebrating St. Patrick's Day (Parading)? #937645147ParticipantMy green tie has pictures of the Arba Minim on it, so if St. Patrick’s day were to occur during Sukkos, I would have no problem wearing my green tie on St. Patrick’s day, but being that Sukkos is far away from St. Patrick’s day, I am unable to don my green tie on St. Patrick’s day.
Even when Palm Sunday occurs on St. Patrick’s day, since they use dry palms and only a single branch or 2, and not an entire Lulov as in the design on my green tie, it doesn’t match my tie.
147Participantzahavasdad
I would be more interested in the Popes relationship with the jews of Buenos Aires than of Rome.
“The Apple Never Falls Far From The Tree” so eventhough this is the 1st Non-European pope, but his parents were Italians who immigrated to Argentina, so his family ties/roots are still verly closely connected to Rome & Italy.
But I would also want to be certain about his relationship with the Falkland Islands, that he should be absolutely clear, that the Falklands are absolutely British, especially as this Wednesday, Nisson 9th, is the 31st anniversary of the illegal attempt by Argentina to steal the Falklands from the British, which cost 907 lives:- 649 Argentinians, 255 British Servicemen, and 3 Falkland Civilians.
147ParticipantSee, some of the kids hagados from school have the anthem from Ossoi Medinah in the back, so some of us sing that.
As of today we are “Toch Sheloshim Yom” of Yom ha’Atzmaut, so how dare anyone drown out the wonderful Nigunim pertaining to haTikvah, especially this year, that Shas party has given its outright support for the haTikvah to continue status quo.
147ParticipantAbout 200 hours left; Is this defined as being nearly Pesach?
147ParticipantThe seeds of this political loss to the Chareidim party, lamentably goes all the way back to the influence of a certain Rabbi in the Brooklyn area, whose boycott has led to the tragic results we currently are witnessing.
147ParticipantWIY:- 4 years from now in 2017, the clocks go forward on Purim, so have a shorter Taanis Esther, and a longer Purim evening and then Purim day to deliver Shelach Monos.
So maybe in 2017, you’ll be grateful to loose 1 hour sleep and more awake hours to celebrate Purim.
& if you do need to sleep then, first cosume some wine, and when you sleep to recover from the time change, you can fulfill not knowing the difference between Orrur Homon & Boruch Mordochai.
March 11, 2013 4:16 am at 4:16 am in reply to: People Questioning What Others Wear While Shopping #936045147ParticipantI can understand the good sheitels and the nice clothing, but 50 y.o. women wearing 3″ heeled pumps on a slushy Thursday night in Pomegranate?
Veltz Meshugener:- Do you know the itineraries of these 50 year young women? Maybe she is on her way to or from a wedding or Bar-Mitzwah. Maybe they don’t live in Midwood, but because they had the rare opportunity of being in Midwood for some Simcha, they took advantage of their presence in Midwppd, to go shopping for Shabbos haChodesh or/& Pesach.
147ParticipantWhen I went to public speaking classes in the late 80’s, we were reminded at each & every session:- Keep thy speech short & straight to the point.
Maybe Daas Yochid:- This public speaking dictum, also applies to your remarks being sent into this coffee room.
147ParticipantThe Secrets of the Haggadah by Matisyohu Glazerson.
In addition to his wonderful insights, this Haggadah strictly follows Nusach Ashkenaz.
147ParticipantWhy not just eat kitniyot for the week before Pesach? You can make it in your Pesach post, and eat it on your Pesach dishes.
and likewise utilize Egg Matzo as a staple during the week before Pesach, maybe to spread cream cheese & jam, and recite Mezonos, and on Shabbos haGodol, after a kezyis/Beitzo of bread in a corner, continue onto a Kosher lePesach meal, which too can be suplemented by egg Matzo.
Furthermore, you shall thereby have Mezonos in the house immediately after Pesach, when these egg Matzos can again be consumed, and they can be owned/possessed during Pesach.
147Participantthat “share the burden” is just an excuse; they are trying to destroy Torah. This is blatant clear cut, because according to Lapid’s theorem, then even Arabs should be inducted into the army, so taht everyone mist share equal burden according to him.
Fortunately, even the army big shots know, that they cannot possibly absorb all the Chareidim, and that this would be rotten strategic planning for the army.
147ParticipantWe just recived an invitation to attend the 1st Seder at the White House.
Does anyone know what Hechsher they use at the White House for the Seder? whether they provide hand baked or machine baked Matzos?
I believe that they shall serve Yayin Mevushol for the 4 cups, so this shall be a non issue, despite there being Heathens also invited to the Seder at the White House.
It is also my understanding, that there shall be no problems getting the Afikomen in before Chatozs, and even the 4th cup, as per the Remo, at this White House Seder.
147ParticipantHealth:- I am in cohort with the Zionists who run & fill up the Hesder Yeshivos, and promulgate Limud haTorah.
Thanks to my extra trip to Israel this year to show moral support to Medinat Yisroel, I was Zoche to be by the Kever of hoRav Chaim Yaakov Goldvicht ZTKLH’H, the founder of this wonderful Hesder program, on his 18th Johrzeit, on Zayin Adar hoRishon.
Needless to say, we learn Torh “al Menos Lishmor” which includes giving thanks to hasHem for the wonderful miracles of Medinat Yisroel [almost 6&1/2 decades ago] and for the Liberation of the Kossel almost 46 years ago, and KaDas vChoDin thanking being by means of Hallel recital.
Furthermore, we Zionists are staunchly opposed to transportation on Shabbos [other than an ambulance or fire engine in case of danger to human life, as we just recently studied in 16th Perek of Tractate Shabbos, whose Siyum was this weekend], as well as no non Halachic compliant marriages, a very strong difference from Lapid’s desires.
Furthermore, even Shas is now very strongly in favor of the “haTikvah” song, as was recently reported on YWN.
March 11, 2013 2:58 am at 2:58 am in reply to: Nurse Refused To Initiate CPR, What Is Your Opinion? #938776147ParticipantThere is a famous Mishno in Pirkei Ovos which states:-
Al Todun Es Chavercho Af sheTaGi’a liMekomo;
Don’t judge thy pal, until thou art standing in his shoes.
147ParticipantThe most important Devar Toroh by far in conjunction with Pesach this year, is that this year is a Silver Jubilee, being exactly 33&1/4 centuries since Yetzi’as Mitzraim.
This same identical Devar Toroh shall also hold up this year by Shovu’os & Shivo Ossor b’Tammuz.
I still remember so vividly all the special excitment surrounding Pessach 1988, at which time it was exactly 33 centuries.
147ParticipantIn england it also works like that (and most other countries) if 1 party doesn’t get over 50percent of the vote a coalition has to be made which will then be over 50 percent.
In 1974 the party without the popular vote, got more seats in Parliament, and became Prime Minister.
It was so untenable, that within a few months, a new election was called. But someone can become the British Prime Minister even without 50% of the popular vote, as long as s/he has over 50% of the seats in Parliament.
Meanwhile, both Lapid & Bennett better begin fearing for their Olom haBo, let alone for what might transpire in the next Knesset election.
147ParticipantHe was a Jekke.
I got sound advice from him, which proved to be smart advice to have followed.
Although I don’t speak a word of Yiddish, but since I speak Ivrit, I could communicate directly with him.
His 8th Johrzeit is very fast approaching, being on Wednesday in 2&1/2 weeks time.
147ParticipantI surely shall be here in 2 nites from now, even at 2AM, as I have to stay up to turn all my clocks @2Am to 3AM.
It is extremely important to check all my computer programs immediately at the stroke of 2AM becoming 3AM, to make absolute sure that all of my programs are running 100% coherently.
