I am far too busy to deal with this entire issue, as I am already busying myself with hachonos for Birkas haChamo in just another 22 years, on Isru Chag Pesach.
147ParticipantI believe required amount for the 4 Kossos is deemed to be 3.3 fluid ounces albeit there is an entire gamete ranging anywhere from 2.5 to 5.1 fluid ounces.
For 1st cup on a Friday nite, the required amount generally is deemed to be 4.42 fluid ounces. Notwithstanding, if the Ba’al haSeder is being Motzi everyone else’s Kiddush, then only he requires 4.42 fluid ounces, and everyone else only requires 3.3 fluid ounces.
Furthermore albeit Kiddush on Friday nite is 4th commandment, yet the 4th commandment is to announce/sanctify Shabbos, but not necessarily on wine, so even iof one did end up making Kiddush on 3.3 fluid ounces, one would probably be Yotze anyways.
Furthermore, according to Rambam [whose birthday is coming up this Friday, since he was born on Shabbos Erev Pesach] even Havdolo after Shabbos is part of this 4th commandment, but no-one seems to mention having a larger 1st kos on Moztei Shabbos.
Another question:- Do we chant Sholom Aleichem & Eshes Chayil this Friday evening prior to Kiddush on 1st cup?
147ParticipantGo back to your Bat-Mitzva teacher.
147ParticipantTo quote Rav Chaim Pinchus Scheinberg Last Wednesday was his 3rd Johrzeit. He passed away exactly 1/2 a year to the day from his birthday on Ellul 27th, as passed away on Adar 27th. Is there any special significance to passing away on a 1/2 birthday?
147ParticipantI don’t quite comprehend how a Gemach for smoke/carbon detectors & 14 feet ladder would operate? because a Gemach is usually for a short term usage, whereas one needs to have these smoke/carbon detectors & 14 feet ladder permanently on hand [ceiling] at home.
147ParticipantJust wondering what his closest Talmid had to say about the medina… B’H a safe haven for stateless Jews to flee to. If the Medina had been around before the Holocaust, think how many more Jewish lives would have been saved by the Medina.
March 26, 2015 12:56 am at 12:56 am in reply to: Naming A Child After Someone With Weird Name #1121215147ParticipantReb Yaakov Kaminetsky famously said not to give a name which would sound strange to the kids American friends. i.e. Give good Ivrith names from Tenach, and stay away fro archaic Jiddish names.
If anyone thinks this remark is too Zionistic:- Bear in mind that no-on would give an Archaic Aramaic name out of the Talmud, so certainly a Jiddish name shouldn’t get any preferential treatment over any Aramaic name.
147ParticipantOnly 2 items really matter:-
1) Money for Shadchan, unless of-course you were Zochim to meet on the internet.
2) A Photogenic tie for the Chosson, because pictures are all you will have after the food flowers & music are gone after that 1 evening. …. Plain white ties don’t show up well on pictures.
147ParticipantGo to Central Park near 5th Avenue & 60th Street entrance, and ho fed the bread to the swans & ducks:- This is a real Kiyum of “VeRachamov Al Kol Ma’asov”.
You shall not receive 1 complaint from neither the swan nor duck about how stale [nor freezer fumed] the bread is, and yet they will heartily enjoy it.
March 25, 2015 11:19 pm at 11:19 pm in reply to: Naming A Child After Someone With Weird Name #1121210147ParticipantProblem is, the name is something like “Hencha”.
What is the solution? Transliterate to Hadassah!! Period!!
It will work beautiful & fine. Never give double name. Not only is it a pain for the child, but also a pain for his/her children when having to use multiple names in a MisheBerach or Kesuvo or Aliya etc.
Somebody who does have a double name, Halachically is really supposed to utilize this double name each & every time.
147ParticipantWe are now “Tauch Sheloshim Yom” of Yom ha’Atzma’ut” so have have to commence our preparations for Yom h’Atzma’ut in earnest.
147ParticipantHow can I sleep?? First test the batteries in your smoke detector, otherwise you surely shouldn’t be going to sleep.
All other Cheshbonei haNefesh are way beyond the scope of any of us. But buying a smoke detector is something most of us can comprehend how to do.
Maybe we should commence giving smoke detectors for Chasuno gifts? It could spell the Chasuno gift of life?
147ParticipantA once in a lifetime opportunity! Well there shall eventually be a 90th Johrzeit & a 100th Johrzeit, so I don’t 1quite comprehend how this is being defined a s once in a lifetime opportunity?
March 15, 2015 9:29 pm at 9:29 pm in reply to: Why Seudah Shlishit should really be called? #1069948147ParticipantWe have entree and then fancy meat and rice & vegetable and fancy deserts thereafter for Seudo Shelishis. We consume Seudo Shlishis @ lunchtime [of-course after Mincho Gedolo], when we have appetite to consume a Respectable meal.
147ParticipantThat was Friday 13th, which reasons totally unknown to me, seems to be something horrendous in the secular world.
147ParticipantSimcha 613:- The issue of Bennett was his irrevocable insistence to hook on with Lapid come what may, and because of this irrevocable insistence, Netanyahu bought this package deal, and tossed offers from the other religious parties.
147Participantwhat ever happened to malasian airlines? Nothing happened, because it never existed:- Lo Hoyo velo Hoveh velo Yihyeh.
Malsian is non existent. Last year March 8th a MalaYsian airline went missing, but no such company as Malasian Airlines.
147ParticipantConsult Hilchos Eidim Zomemmim, a Parsha which appears in Parshas Shoftim and in Tractate Makos.
You will get more satisfaction from applying Hilchos Eidim Zomemim than from from this coffee room.
147ParticipantI am only anti parties that are against religious observance:- This basically means Lapid & Bennett. Yishai is doing excellent work. I also don’t have a subscription with haModia, but with another major Jewish newspaper {I cannot mention names over this kind of forum}, who is talking very positively about Yishai.
Needless to say, I am viciously anti anyone telling followers not to vote. For all intense & practical purposes, telling followers not to vote is saying 2 things:-
1) it is saying I don’t care about all the genuine Gedolim who said to vote.
2) It is saying that they want to hurt the religious parties & public, and support the anti religious agendas.
147ParticipantToday is 3/14 {A.K.A. March 14th}; Not 0-14.
147ParticipantDo’s & Dont’s? 1st and most critical Don’t:- Under NO circumstances ever have a cell phone ring in a Shul nor during Davening! Period! No exceptions.
2nd:- Never answer a cell phone in Shul nor during Davening! Period! No exceptions!
147ParticipantAlready 5 months gone, and exactly 7 months left until Hoshana Rabba
March 12, 2015 10:17 am at 10:17 am in reply to: Newly discovered: Only known video of the Chofetz Chaim #1064088147ParticipantAs I already said, I was a very young child, so my early childhood memories are vague, as are everybody’s early childhood memories. But I was clearly told to pay special attention to look at the Chofetz Chaim and not not to forget him, whatever that means to a young child.
147ParticipantI love everyone except for those who had audacity to burn picture of Rav Ovadia Yosef ZT’L on Purim in Meah Shearim, as was reported by YWN.
147ParticipantB’H
147ParticipantSo next year OURtorah, I’ll take your Berocho on 20th of both Adar Rishon & Adar Sheni {assuming your were born in a non leap year}, and this year I’ll still take your Berocho is capacity of Birthday Sheni &/or Isru birthday.
March 12, 2015 4:00 am at 4:00 am in reply to: Newly discovered: Only known video of the Chofetz Chaim #1064086147ParticipantAlthough most of you are too young to remember the Chofetz Chaim, I am so old, that I was around and still remember the Chofetz Chaim, and it was very inspirational to see the Chofetz Chaim in motion on this newly released video after the last time I physically saw the Chofetz Chaim in motion some 82 years ago when I was a very young child.
147ParticipantIs it cruel to decorate animals? It is a waste of time & money. If you have nothing to do with your money, turn it over to Kimcha dePisscha instead of stupid color paint on the animal.
147ParticipantIn the absence of an Eiruv many authorities don’t permit wearing watches in the street on Shabbos or Yom Kippur. Needless to say, this restriction would not apply to a cufflink watch, as it is functioning as a shirt fastener.
147ParticipantI feel so special to have been around to live thru Hakomas Medinat Yisroel and thru seizure of “Har HaBayit bYodeinu” on Yom Yerusholayim of 6 day war, and to have seen the Entebbe hostages being welcome @Ben Gurion Airport.
I pity today’s young generations who cannot relate to the euphoria of these awesome events that haShem showered upon us.
147ParticipantWho can honestly say that he has not been inspired by the Chafetz Chaim at some point or in some way Although most of you are too young to remember the Chofetz Chaim, I am so old, that I was around and still remember the Chofetz Chaim, and it was very inspirational to see the Chofetz Chaim in motion on this newly released video after the last time I physically saw the Chofetz Chaim in motion some 82 years ago when I was a very young child.
147ParticipantStay far away from Bernard Madoff
147Participantdalifneimee:- How deep are your pockets? Maybe you should build your own private Mikvah next door to your bedroom, and your privacy surely shall never be invaded.
147ParticipantAnd I know the reason for the snow. The Hebrew Institute of Riverdale Rav Avi Weiss shlita is a Tzadik Gomur, and we can only be envious of all the numerous Zechuyos he has accumulated from so many Ma’assim Tovim he has performed.
147ParticipantNeutiquamErro:- I now wish you Happy Pesach Preparations.
147ParticipantSo you abhor your fellow Jews, even while talking about Ahavas Yisroel? FYI mw13:- When someone publicly demonstrates against “Am Bnei Yisroel” and sides up with Nochrim, they take on the Halachic status of “Yotzu MiKelal Amiseicho” and cease to be entitled to the perks of bonafide loyal Yehudim.
147Participant1st Possuk of Sheni on Parshas on Devorim is also read to tune of Eicho.
When reading Massa’ot in Massei as well as order of travel/camps arrangement of the tribes in Bamidbar & Beha’aloscho, we also intone a special tune and don’t follow trop.
147ParticipantFYI Joseph & DaasYochid:- There is n Mitzwah to get drunk on Simchas Toro; Only on Purim. Simchas Toro as all Yomin Tovim & Chol haMoed, 1 Revi’is of wine per Hebrew calendar day suffices to fulfill veSomachto beHagecho.
147ParticipantAt least not driving when drunk.
147ParticipantKnow which wines you can handle &n tolerate, and stay away from all others.
I know which 2 wines I can handle including 4 cups on Passover with no discomfort, and buy several bottles of these 2 specific types, and don’t ingest any other wines.
147ParticipantLikewise wishing you all Shushan Purim Sameach.
147ParticipantDoes anyone know of when it ever seriously snowed on Purim in NY previously? 1992 which was 1st snow storm of entire winter that year.
So who had their Seudas Purim Plans messed up?
147ParticipantFor some reason ywn didn’t report on it so as not to report Loshon hoRo
147ParticipantWhen do I wish Purim Sameach to our Ramot brethren? I have close relatives in Ramot, so I for real need an answer to this question. This is not academic for me, but for real.
Is the Rabbi who told them to keep the 14th after an unequivocal Pesak from the Chief Rabbinate and from Rav Yitzchok Yosef a Zokein Mamrei Chas veSholom?
March 4, 2015 2:41 am at 2:41 am in reply to: Shloshim yom modem hachag – plan for learning hilchos Pesach #1063231147ParticipantYou should have posed this question 1 week ago, and I would have sent you to the YU book sale. But since this past Sunday was their last day, you simply shall have to wait until next year to procure some good Sifrei Hilchos Pesach.
147ParticipantNetanyahu is a Tzadik Gomur and such an Oheiv Yisroel. Anyone who even contemplated demonstrating against Netanyahu has no Cheilek in Olom HaBo for such a terrible Chilul haShem.
147ParticipantWednesday nite I have to drive Netanyahu to the airport, so that he can get back to Yerusholayim in time for Shushan Purim in Yerusholayim.
147ParticipantI love Israel, and Netanyahu and abhor anyone who even contemplated protesting against Netanyohu, who is such an Oheiv Yisroel.
147ParticipantMy Birthday is on the last day of Pesach You haven’t specified if last day of Pesach in Israel? or last day of Pesach in Diaspora?
147ParticipantKJ Chusid got into my account. Please advice????
