You are only complaining because it is the Siyum. If it were a rock and roll concert or a sporting event, you would not have an issue.

These are the general charges by the box office.

If a concert producer was charging such a high handling charge and was providing the same level of service the complaints would be there.

$8 is definately too high for a service that sells seats without the ability to know beforehand what section thay are in and provides no indication or choice of how or when the tickets will be shipped (or if the order is even being processed).

And, under Jewish divorce law, is it true that it generally awards all marital assets (house, bank accounts, etc.) to the husband?

Halacha doesn’t recognize marriage as a financial partnership (such a partnership is impossible in a poligamist society) so there is no division of assets when the partnership is dissolved.

The elevators are pre-programmed for more weight [i.e. using exgtra elecricity for much higher weight than is actually in elevator/lift] than will probably be the weight of the several passengers in the elevator/lift at any time of use

There is no way to pre-program how much power will be consumed by an electrical motor with varying loads. Whether or not a variance in power has any Halachic ramifications is dealt with by the Poskim.

It has been mostly an honorary title since 1291 and is claimed by a number of royal houses. The only legitimate monarch today that claims this title is Juan Carlos I of Spain.

Yeshivas have been banning books forever, even Shakespeare only makes it into Mechinas after a lot of use of Sharpie’s.

Much of Shakespere’s work should be removed from yeshiva curriculums.

And this may be a silly question, but can you give yourself a haircut?

I give my self a haircut regularly.

If you buy a haircut machine, you can give yourself a buzz very easily and for sure for your kids.

I only once gave myself a buzz.

There is a haircutting machine for men specially made that you can give yourself a haircut, i saw the advert of it.

You don’t need a sepcial machine, I use an Oster Classic 76.

There are specific requirements for custody arbitration to be legally binding. This is from Fawzy v. Fawzy:

Finally, the Court addressed the process by which parents can bind themselves to arbitration over a child custody dispute. The Court emphasized the importance of ensuring that parents understand their rights and the ramifications of their decision before they agree to arbitrate. The Court thus required there be an agreement in writing or otherwise recorded that clearly establishes the parties 1) understand they have a right to a judicial determination of their dispute and knowingly agree to waive that right; 2) understand and accept the limited circumstances in which they can challenge the award; 3) have had enough time to fully consider the consequences of their decision to arbitrate; and 4) have entered the agreement voluntarily.

If a Beis Din stated that they wouldn’t preside over a Get unless she agreed to custody arbitration, than such an arbitration can be challenged.

On the subject: Can someone explain to me the rationale behind taking a product (for instance, I think I’ve seen Twizzlers) and putting a sticker over the OU with not only a different hashgacha but also a different brand name (I believe it’s Oneg in this case)? What is the point? Is that run and only that run certified by the second hashgacha? What’s the point of putting another brand on the sticker?

I can’t speak about any particular case but unless the sticker specifies what added benifits they provide, I assume there are none.

Someone who is not in the military is prohibitted to wear a military uniform. Simalarly someone not in yeshiva is prohibited to wear the Yesivah uniform.

Except as otherwise provided by law, no person except a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps, as the case may be, may wear –

    (1) the uniform, or a distinctive part of the uniform, of the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps; or

    (2) a uniform any part of which is similar to a distinctive part of the uniform of the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps

I think it would be covered by copyright. They decribe their layout as having “clear instuctions, copious subtitles, and precise page headings”. If these elements are original than the layout can be covered by copyright.

Why aren’t their hundreds of hours invested in a new typeset protected?

Copyright law only deals with new intelectual property. Regardless of how great the investment is, if no new intelectual property is created there is nothing to be protected.

    What determines that?

Usually a judge, But I’ll give my opinion about 3 seform I have nearby:

Artscroll Interlinear Siddur – IP in layout (That’s my interpertation of the law, personally I’d leave out the “I” in “IP”)

Oz VeHehadar Gemorah – IP in layout, but most of it is already in the public domain (being newly typeset has no affect)

Beis HaLevi (Mishor) – No IP in layout

Assuming they didn’t merely use a photo offset of a non-copyrighted edition, I believe they would hold the rights to the layout, even without rights to the content.

The layout is only protected by copyright if the layout itself is “Intellectual Property”.
