dash™Participant
Mods: can you edit those posts? The last thing you’d want is everyone to play around with their links.
dash™ParticipantSo who is this dash guy?
I am you.
July 26, 2012 10:43 pm at 10:43 pm in reply to: News Item: People who hate Mondays are racist. #887861dash™ParticipantJust because a black comedian does a routine about everybody hating Monday doesn’t make it a racial slur. Likewise if a jewish comedian did the same routine it wouldn’t make it antisemetic.
July 26, 2012 1:03 am at 1:03 am in reply to: Why do people pick their noses while at a traffic light? #887413dash™ParticipantIt’s hard to find something else constuctive to do in such a short span of time.
dash™Participantyeah, try mine. Maybe it is one of my Joseph tricks.
That happens to those who the mods think are Joseph.
dash™ParticipantAccording to Tosfos would you be yotze bchol with tfillas shabbos bdieved?
Haleivi what is the full 18 brochos fixing?
It’s the other way around. If you were to say 18+1 on shabbos you would be yotzei davening.
dash™ParticipantMishenichnas Av memaatin besimcha.
Lessen, don’t eliminate.
dash™ParticipantWhile this may not be what the OP needs, Capitol One credit cards have no foreign transaction fees. This is a good solution for purchases but there may be fees for cash.
July 24, 2012 3:03 pm at 3:03 pm in reply to: Breaking! Sanz-Klausenberg rebbi to attend Siyum Hashas #887148dash™Participant@KolHaolam: BORO PARK: Klausenberger Rebbe is first Rebbe to accept invite today by Aguda to attend Siyum Ha’shas on August 1st, he will be speaking.
Do you actually believe that the Agudah doesn’t have a lineup of speakers yet? This is not the first time they’re doing this.
And are they making a press release for every speaker?
dash™ParticipantManhig Hador
Who coined that term? And what is the relationship between an ordinary individual (whatever that means) and whoever the Manhig Hador is?
July 18, 2012 11:03 pm at 11:03 pm in reply to: Did the news websites etc…have Reb Eliyashiv's passing articles prepared? #886275dash™ParticipantNews organizations always have biographies prepared of notable people availible for quick use.
dash™Participant2scents, one thing I tried to do and found no work-around for, is to recover data. There is just no way to access the hard drive raw.
This isn’t an VB issue, in VB you can make any API call including those involving RawDisk and it will work if you run it on older versions of Windows. The problem is that any User Mode program has limited access to RawDisk regardless of group membership.
July 17, 2012 1:01 am at 1:01 am in reply to: Better to Wear a Hat for Davening at Home than to Daven with a Minyan #886055dash™ParticipantMy high school principal said the same thing, until a few of us decided to arrange a scenario where there wouldn’t be a minyan of hat wearers. (It was a very small school.)
dash™ParticipantNow, I’m afraid it may not help to un-fry. Besides, part of the illumination (einfall in Yiddish, boy did it fall in) came through the network wires (part outdoors), I don’t think there’s a protector for that.
It’s been a while but last time I connected multiple buildings with aerial cables, I used fiber optic cables to protect the network from lightning.
dash™ParticipantWhy don’t you contact the organizations you want to support? Many have US offices and will be happy to assist you in getting an IRS approved receipt.
dash™ParticipantCan anyone recommend a brand name, or place to purchase white shirts that stay crisp via machine wash and dry?
I buy shirts which are suppose to be no-iron – permanent press, etc.
That’s your problem. In order for a shirt to remain crisp it needs to have stiff fibers, permanent press garments are designed not to take creases by using softer fibers.
dash™ParticipantIt appears that some people who are descendants from the kehilla of sanz have the minhag therefore that bochurim wear teffilin on chol hamoed but married men do not!
The minhag exists but not for this reason. The reason Tefillin is not worn by married men is Kabalistic in nature and since unmarried men aren’t involved with kabalistic issues they follow the basic Halacha.
dash™ParticipantFirst shut down iTunes all of the iPod related services(“Apple Mobile Device” and “iPod Service”). Connect your iPod and it should appear as another USB drive. Copy the files you want (you may have to show hidden files and folders) to the “Automatically Add to iTunes” folder. Restart the iPod related services and iTunes.
I can’t gaurantee that this method will work for all models but it does work on Every model I tried it on. Also the filenames on the iPod will not make sence but if the files are tagged properly you can read the tags.
dash™ParticipantIs there a difference between going into McDonalds to buy coffee from a local McDonalds or buying it from a McDonalds at a rest stop on the highway?
Yes. It is common to just purchase drinks or use the rest rooms at rest stops so Maras Ayin doesn’t apply.
June 15, 2012 1:11 am at 1:11 am in reply to: askanim and their actions on behalf of other religions #882302dash™ParticipantCongress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Do you know where this quote comes from?
dash™ParticipantIf there are insufficient seats for everyone, the children should allow the adults to sit instead of them taking seats.
There are certain classes of people one should give up their seat for. Adults are not such a class.
dash™ParticipantThere are plenty of works cleaner than Shakespeare’s. If a school beleives that a perticular work is not suitable for their students as is (Some of Shakespeare’s work will fall into this category, how many will depend on the school) they should select a different work for their cirriculum rather than attempt to fix it.
dash™ParticipantI just checked Mostly Music’s Facebook page and didn’t see that.
The page you saw (Mostly-Music) is a fan page and is not controlled by Mostly Music. The official page (MostlyMusicFB) was deactivated so you didn’t see it.
June 6, 2012 1:15 am at 1:15 am in reply to: The absolute best filter – for InternetExplorer only #878823dash™ParticipantWhy don’t you wrap it in “code” tags and post it?
dash™ParticipantMod-18, Whats going on at YWN HQ? It seems like the experianced mods left and left the new guy in charge.
dash™ParticipantEither he’s busy covering for Moderator-95 who is on strike or perhaps he refused to cross the pickett line.
dash™Participantdash- he might! permission should be asked first before posting something someone else said on a public forum!
If that was your point you wouldn’t have written “INTERNET”.
dash™ParticipantThe OP seems to be assuming that texting on Yom Kippur is worse than Texting on Shabbos.
dash™ParticipantIs he aware you posted it on the INTERNET???
Do you think he would object?
dash™ParticipantGavra, what was it about?
The evils of the telegraph.
dash™ParticipantIn the under zillion dollar range their best camera is the EOS-1D X, however if you are just going to set it to auto you’ll get the same results as using an EOS Rebel T3.
May 30, 2012 8:25 pm at 8:25 pm in reply to: Are there filters that connect to the router instead of individual computers? #877206dash™ParticipantBarracuda, iPrism.
As an FYI, the problem with such a filter is that your children can simply disconnect it and reconnect the unfiltered internet.
This type of filter can usually be setup to send an alert email if it detects tampering. Also they can either be setup as fail-safe or fail-secure. In fail-safe mode all traffic is unfiltered if the filter is offline, in fail-secure mode all traffic is blocked.
dash™ParticipantNot basketball, the torch relay.
The torch relay was a Nazi innovation. The Olympic flame decends from Avoda Zara.
May 25, 2012 3:21 am at 3:21 am in reply to: Whitelist vs. Blacklist & Remote vs. Local Internet Filtering #876466dash™ParticipantYou could configure your router not allow VPN by blacklisting ports. That is obviously not an option for IT people.
Outbound port blocking isn’t gererally used. Most modern VPNs aren’t tied to a specific port, many of then can make the connection through ports 80/443.
dash™ParticipantHow is it not indecent exposure for someone walking by to see that?
My library’s AUP states that such material may not be viewed on terminals in open space (or something to that effect) but all of their computers are in open space.
dash™ParticipantWhatever happened to privacy? Isn’t it enough just to know that he needs our prayers?
dash™ParticipantCharities and telemarketing companies must each maintain their own DNC list. While charity calls are excempt from the national DNC list, if the calls are being done by a telemarketing firm they have to checked against both the charity’s list and the telemarketer’s list. If you are called and you want them to put you on their DNC list you need to specify which list or both lists.
This only applies to calls made by a telemarketer, if the charity is calling directly they do not need to maintain a DNC list.
May 24, 2012 4:24 am at 4:24 am in reply to: Video of Internet Asifa at CitiField – Full Video Feed for Satellite Locations #876242dash™ParticipantI did – here you go
How did you manage that? I’ve been searching for a tool that reliably extracts Silverlight videos.
May 23, 2012 3:16 am at 3:16 am in reply to: Whitelist vs. Blacklist & Remote vs. Local Internet Filtering #876455dash™ParticipantIs there any reason to utilize a filtering service with a monthly fee as opposed to one that costs a one-time purchase and is installed directly on your computer?
Filtering makes mores sense as a subcription based service because you are constantly using their resources and they are constantly updating their lists or algorithms.
dash™ParticipantHow come mod 95 never made a real post before this one.
There are a number of posts by 95.
I never wanted to start a topic before. So I just posted like this so I wouldn’t have to leave the modding page. -95
What about the Mezuza thread?
dash™ParticipantLets say i am running a web scraper and the filter decides to filter out a site – can u not see how that could cause a huge monetary loss. i need to deal with a plethora of new sites and correcting the filter every time is highly impractical. in addition the market moves very quickly and there have been plenty of times where huge losses would have resulted if a website had been mistakenly blocked.
Anyone in the position of running a business critical web scaper hopefully has enough sence to run it on a computer othan than the workstation used for daily work.
dash™ParticipantThe skills needed to remove K9 are the same as the skills needed to remove malware. Although signature based scanners don’t view K9 as malware, method based scanners will detect changes made by K9 and can safely undo them.
dash™ParticipantWe don’t count up, we don’t count down.
We say “Today is forty days in/to the Omer”.
Which makes no sense – we should say “fortieth day”.
Despite the fact that the days are part of a series, each day is a unique oppertunity.
dash™ParticipantAre you allowed to steal from a goy (i.e. comedians)??
No. But Hasagas Gvul doesn’t apply.
dash™ParticipantI call – it’s a member of the bikur cholim. Nice guy, just doesn’t even claim to know halachah.
The chaplain’s job isn’t to be a Posek. His advantage is that he can contact the mourgue and they will take his inquiry sseriously. Any questions regarding the trustworthyness of the mourgue and how far tumah would actually spread will require the expertise of a Posek.
dash™ParticipantTo those who say that 40,000 is not a large number, I will ask a question. How many events in the history of Klal Yisroel (in America at least) have sold 40,000 tickets for one single location? The number is exactly Zero!!
When was the last time a venue of this size had tickets being sold for $10?
dash™ParticipantHowever the Jet Blue flight attended insisted that he has no right to sit in a different seat that was provided to him before boarding, and she insisted that even though its an empty seat, and even though he asked before boarding to change his seat, somehow he is not allowed to seat on the empty seat near his parents,
The attendant was right. You can’t switch to an empty seat during boarding because it can still be assigned to another passenger. I’ve never had any trouble with my seat because I follow three rules:
1. Book early
2. Arrive early
3. Be polite
I don’t always get the best seat but have never been removed from a plane.
dash™ParticipantI don’t understand the whole celebration tonight thing. Isn’t it clear in the Mishnah B’rurah that Nihugei Aveilus apply until tomorrow morning?
Most of the “Halachos” of Sefira are actually Minhagim, and (my informal survay says that) most people don’t follow the M”B for Minhagim.
dash™Participantsince when are lyrics copyrighted?
17 U.S.C.
