Are glasses from Zenni of decent or comparable quality to other places? Are there prices lower than everyone else?
July 30, 2018 10:02 am at 10:02 am #1566926assurnetParticipantI’ve ordered multiple pairs of glasses from therm and they are just as good quality as any store bought pair I’ve owned. Just make sure you are putting an accurate prescription in. The only problem is since you can’t try the frames on beforehand they may not always look as nice on you as you would have thought, however the price is so cheap that you can afford to be hit or miss to a certain extent. When my boss finds a pair from them he likes he orders about 10 and keeps them in a bowl in his house in case he loses a pair he’ll have lots of backups.

July 30, 2018 4:30 pm at 4:30 pm #1567069JosephParticipantShopping: They ship to Israel?
July 30, 2018 6:25 pm at 6:25 pm #1567091Shopping613 ðŸŒParticipantThey ship internationally. Many sites ship to Israel these days…if not most.
9.95 flat rate shipping. Many people here order glasses from there.July 30, 2018 7:14 pm at 7:14 pm #1567116HaimyParticipantI get headaches from zenni as well as other online glasses stores. The local Jewish stores have a better quality lense.
July 30, 2018 7:48 pm at 7:48 pm #1567204👑RebYidd23ParticipantLens upgrades are available.
July 30, 2018 10:19 pm at 10:19 pm #1567245CTRebbeParticipantThey are amazing. People are finally realizing that the mark up on glasses are insane. There is no reason why the same pair of frames sell in the dollar store without a prescription are sold for $100 and up in a glasses store just bec. you want prescription lenses. I have gotten several pairs for myself and my family and they are just as good as you will find anywhere else
July 31, 2018 12:22 am at 12:22 am #1567267slominerParticipantHow are they able to afford to sell a full frame and lens together for only $6.95?
And how can anyone else compete with such rock bottom pricing?
July 31, 2018 2:36 am at 2:36 am #1567299Shopping613 ðŸŒParticipantslominer, do you know it costs HALF of what Zenni charges to MAKE glasses?
80 percent of the glasses companies in the USA are owned by one company, Luxottica (do a google on them). They also own most of the biggest chain glasses stores and the glasses insurance. In short they have a monopoly on glasses, and even if a new company wants to sell cheaper prices, they also own the stores so they won’t allow them in their stores and the new company won’t make money. Then they buy them out.
In Israel they are cheaper than the USA, but again, I can tell my local glasses shop has the same frames as Zenni, stuff from ebay that costs 5-20 dollars a frame. But they charge 200-800 shekels. Why? Because they know they can.
Do you know how much it costs to make an iphone? 50 dollars? Maybe? They sell at 600 though.
July 31, 2018 8:46 am at 8:46 am #1567359MenoParticipantI get headaches from zenni as well as other online glasses stores. The local Jewish stores have a better quality lense.
Most likely has to do with the prescription rather than the quality of the lens. I’ve gotten glasses from several online companies and my vision was crystal clear with no issues.
The quality of the frames is inferior to name brands, but for the price it’s definitely worth it.
I have always wondered how they are able to do it at such a low cost. I understand that they can get a frame for pennies, but what about the lenses? Those can’t be mass-produced.
July 31, 2018 9:11 am at 9:11 am #1567375Shopping613 ðŸŒParticipantEven the lenses. Both that and the frames only cost 3-15 dollars to make.

The mark- up in insane.I know that must be true, because they have to make money. I just don’t understand how they could do it. You can’t mass produce prescription lenses cut for specific frames. They must use either some kind of very sophisticated machinery, or very cheap labor, which is not so easy because cutting lenses takes some degree of skill.
Also I don’t get why you think that’s insane. At the end of the day everyone is happy. Do you expect them to sell you glasses at cost?
July 31, 2018 9:31 am at 9:31 am #1567392Shopping613 ðŸŒParticipantat a 300-1000 dollar markup it IS insane. Glasses were cheaper when your parents needed them!
How sad…a medical necessity for many is so expensive.July 31, 2018 10:02 am at 10:02 am #1567395MenoParticipantAre we talking about the same thing? I thought this thread was about Zenni.
July 31, 2018 11:30 am at 11:30 am #1567441crum is thoughtfulParticipantAnother issue with zenni is that if you have a high prescription above – 600 it automatically jumps up the pricing like 50$ bc they need to do more work with the lense. It’s still cheaper than other glasses
July 31, 2018 12:26 pm at 12:26 pm #1567458JosephParticipantHow does Zenni compare to other online prescription glasses stores?
July 31, 2018 12:36 pm at 12:36 pm #1567472jdbParticipantNot all frames and glasses are the same. But they are close.
If your optomotrist is very specific and thorough, Zenni should be fine for most people. Most lenses come in universal, large shapes and are then trimmed to fit the glasses. All lenses are mass produced. If you can automate more of the process, the savings are real.
July 31, 2018 2:00 pm at 2:00 pm #1567483adocsParticipantEven if you have a slightly more difficult prescription (for which Zenni may add a surcharge), and you can’t get the cheap glasses for $15, Zenni will still be way cheaper than you would pay in a regular store. And just as good.
July 31, 2018 2:02 pm at 2:02 pm #1567530CTRebbeParticipantI believe that they are made in China so yes the labor is cheap and automated. The materials (wire and plastic) are also cheap. Many people will continue to get ripped off in regular glasses stores paying 15-20 times the price and saying ” the quality is just better”
July 31, 2018 2:38 pm at 2:38 pm #1567565JosephParticipant“If your optomotrist is very specific and thorough”
What does that mean? Which optomotrists aren’t specific on a prescription?
August 1, 2018 9:41 am at 9:41 am #1567869MenoParticipantWhich optomotrists aren’t specific on a prescription?
Sometimes when I take my kids to the doctor, the doctor asks which band-aid they want.
Some optometrists do the same thing with prescriptions.
August 1, 2018 7:36 pm at 7:36 pm #1568177MasmidInTrainingParticipantZenni is amazing- that’s the only place I’ve ever ordered glasses from! I’ve had my current pair fro quite a few months already! Highly recommended!
August 6, 2018 10:51 am at 10:51 am #1569482Shopping613 ðŸŒParticipantJust received my glasses yesterday. I’m in shock, they are better quality than the store on my block who checked my eyes out. The ones in the local stores are much more flimsy.
My eyes are still adjusting as I haven’t worn glasses in a while and my prescription changed, but they look like really good quality glasses. Would highly recommend them. Also it only took 2 weeks to get here.
