I like that videos are on the main page. Thanks!

42.
May 26, 2010 5:18 pm at 5:18 pm #992883niceParticipantI do not like this new format at all. (sorry) The old way was much easier to navigate. I am a webmaster for years and I still wonder why no one ever takes a lesson from google. Look at their homepage – it’s practically blank and it’s awesome. That design is what got them going. So, not that you will change it now but just so you can know.
May 26, 2010 5:53 pm at 5:53 pm #992884YW Moderator-80MemberWhat got google going was their search technology (called then Page Rank)
and the administrative and marketing skills of the two PhD candidates who began the company.
I do prefer a simple web page and Google’s is excellent
May 28, 2010 2:28 am at 2:28 am #992885d aMemberwhy, when one starts a new thread, it says there are 2 Posts already posted in that thread when there is really only 1?
May 28, 2010 6:31 am at 6:31 am #992886d aMemberIt seems like all threads are saying that there is 1 more post then there actually is.
Whatever.
May 28, 2010 4:23 pm at 4:23 pm #992887hereorthereMemberHow do you sart a new thread?
I can’t find anything to click on, to start a new thread.

You’re welcome.
(it rang a faint bell, Google then did the rest of the work)
June 2, 2010 1:30 pm at 1:30 pm #992892nochamolMemberCan’t print anything. When clicking on the print icon an almost blank page prints out.
June 3, 2010 4:43 pm at 4:43 pm #992893the.nurseMemberDon’t know if anyone commented on this, but 2 things I don’t really like on the new main page:
#1 If you click on ‘opinions’ (which, by the way, I think would be better written as ‘comments’ since sometimes, the news is a Rav’s levaya or something of that nature, and then people are just commenting on it, there’s no ‘opinion’ per say), you have to then click back to get to the story. I think it would be better that if you click on opinions, you’re navigated to the section of the story page where people commented, and then you can just scroll up for the story.
#2 I liked it better when the name of the person who commented was below the comment, as opposed to above the comment as it is now. I think it made the name of the poster more visible. As well, I think the name of the poster should be clearer – i.e. bigger or a different color.
Thanks for a great website, in general, great job!
June 3, 2010 9:06 pm at 9:06 pm #992894ChanieEParticipantI can only see 4 comments on the PETA article, although it says there are 54 comments. Clicking “older comments” does nothing. Is it just me or are others having the same problem?
June 3, 2010 9:08 pm at 9:08 pm #992895YW Moderator-80Memberme too (also?)
June 3, 2010 9:30 pm at 9:30 pm #992896squeakParticipant80, in order to express yourself in a grammatically correct way, you will need to write in complete sentences.
Re: the missing comments – I can see them and believe me you are the luckier one 🙂
June 3, 2010 9:52 pm at 9:52 pm #992897YW Moderator-80Membersqueak: 80 should be capitalized.
June 7, 2010 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm #992898Jersey JewParticipantGetting used to it with one MAJOR exception…..
It used to be when we clicked on the “comments” link for a story, we were taken to the comments of said story AND the actual story was on top.
Now, we are taken to a NEW page with only the comments and NOT the story. This is frustrating as many times we have to look at the story again before telling someone they are a goofball who should have read the story better.
June 8, 2010 1:10 am at 1:10 am #992899YW Moderator-42ModeratorNot sure what you are referring to. When I click on “42 Opinions” it takes me to the comments section but I can still scroll up to see the story.

I have the same issue as mark levin. When I click on ‘opinions’ I am taken to a separate page with comments only. I then have to click back to read the story. Maybe it’s a browser issue? I usually use Firefox.
June 8, 2010 7:32 pm at 7:32 pm #992901KashaMemberI have the same problem with Google Chrome.
June 8, 2010 10:36 pm at 10:36 pm #992902d aMemberIts the same idea as if you hit “FRESHNESS” on the CR. It takes you to the last comment. On the main YW page, it takes you to the “comments” section. Take for example this story: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/General+News/61392/Fox-News-Wants-Helen-Thomas’-Front-Row-Seat-In-White-House-Press-Room.html#comments
The “#comments” is part of the URL making it take you only to the comments. But if you only hit http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/General+News/61392/Fox-News-Wants-Helen-Thomas’-Front-Row-Seat-In-White-House-Press-Room.html without clicking (4 opinions), you will see the full story PLUS the comments.
Hope I explained it well enough (I didn’t sleep last night…No, I wasn’t on the CR….!)
June 9, 2010 2:23 am at 2:23 am #992903the.nurseMemberd a
I know that if you hit the news story, you will see both the story and the comments. However, IMHO, it would make more sense that if you click on ‘opinions’, it should just link you to the bottom of the page with the comments, and allow you to scroll up for the story.
June 10, 2010 3:19 am at 3:19 am #992904d aMemberthe.nurse, I agree 100%. the same with the CR. When we hit “10 min” on FRESHNESS,, it should take us to the last post, but not lock the rest of the page.
GN everyone!
June 11, 2010 7:52 pm at 7:52 pm #992905YW Moderator-42ModeratorInteresting, it does that to me too now, it gives mje only the comments and not the story. I assume this has something to do with the way it redirects URLs. I guess they should look into this. I usually click on the story link and not on the “opinions” link so I don’t have this problem.
June 11, 2010 7:54 pm at 7:54 pm #992906YW Moderator-42ModeratorThe CR has been doing that also. I find it very annoying that it only gives you the last comment. I assume this is the same bug with the “#” in the URL that somehow messes up the redirecting so that it only gives you the last post in the CR or the comments on the main page.
June 13, 2010 4:50 pm at 4:50 pm #992907hereorthereMemberAs I type this, this thread has 4 pages to it.
When you first click on the thread it shows something like this for the pages to click on;
1,2,….4
When on other threads it would go to page #5 with the first post on that 5th page, often when you click on it all you see is a blank page and the actual comment may be on page 4 still or as in a case I just had on another thread it does not appear at all.
Even if you can find it might be on page 4 but the pages to click on, won’t show page 4.
You have to click on page 2, then page 3, and only THEN do you finally get to page 4.
You cannot click on page 5 if page 5 is blank and then go backwards to page 4 because in that situation, page 4 does not show up to click on.
This gets extremly annoying and wasteful of time when the last page is page 12 and it is blank and the last page with actual comments on it is page 11 and you have click forward through all 11 pages, one at a time, to get there.
It is even worse when you do that, and still can’t find that last post.
How about making the page click look like this?:
1, 2, …….10, 11, 12
That way we can still click on the last page……Or the last page that ‘actually has comments’ in it, without having to waste all that time, clicking forward, one page at a time.
June 13, 2010 8:39 pm at 8:39 pm #992908d aMemberhereorthere, you can change the URL. For example, http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/your-feedback-new-ywn-website/page/4
you can delete the number 4 (at the end) and replace it with a different number. I don’t think it answers your question, but just a helpful tip.
June 13, 2010 9:39 pm at 9:39 pm #992909d aMember(the YWRadio ad has the old logo…)
June 13, 2010 10:13 pm at 10:13 pm #992910hereorthereMemberd a thanks, that worked, how did you know how to find that URL?
June 15, 2010 1:57 pm at 1:57 pm #992911artchillParticipantWhat is missing is, the old site used to have the feature to click on a member’s profile and see what threads they commented on. When you understand more about who you are answering back to, it enhances the quality of the discussions.
Is there a way to return this feature?
June 15, 2010 9:35 pm at 9:35 pm #992912d aMemberartchill: I understand what you are saying (even though this feature was taken off before the website change…)
This does not fix the problem, but you can copy this URL:
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/profile/INSERT YOUR USERNAME HERE
for example:
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/profile/artchill
If your username has a space in it, place a – in place of the space.
For example:
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/profile/d-a
Understand?

June 17, 2010 3:30 am at 3:30 am #992914d aMemberModerator 42 the same bug with the “#” in the URL that somehow messes up the redirecting so that it only gives you the last post in the CR or the comments on the main page
It seems like this problem has been fixed!!! (In the CR, I didn’t check the opinions/comments on the main YW)
June 17, 2010 3:22 pm at 3:22 pm #992915squeakParticipant“http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/profile/YOU CAN PUT ANY CR MEMBER’S SCREEN NAME HERE TO SEE HIS/HER PROFILE”
There is a complication to this. The screen name is merely the name that a user signs posts. It is not necessarily the same as the login name. To see the user’s profile you have to put the member’s login name in the URL, which means that you have to know what it is. In most cases, the two are the same – but not in all cases.
June 17, 2010 6:19 pm at 6:19 pm #992916mathhelpMemberd a, I’m still having the # problem. I use Firefox as my browser.
June 17, 2010 6:49 pm at 6:49 pm #992917d aMembersqueak, you are right. For example, HIE is Hashem Is Everywhere.
June 17, 2010 6:55 pm at 6:55 pm #992918YW Moderator-80MemberTo my knowledge out of all the posters here only one has a SN different from the login. It won’t be a problem
June 17, 2010 7:59 pm at 7:59 pm #992919squeakParticipant“It won’t be a problem”
It might not be a problem. That is, as long as 1) the older screen names are not revived and 2) the prankster doesn’t continue to nickname every amusing person in sight.
June 17, 2010 8:08 pm at 8:08 pm #992920YW Moderator-80MemberOnly one screen name has been changed on a permanent basis. The prankster has a short term sense of humor and all other screennames were only temporary. If they are revived it will also be temporary.
June 17, 2010 9:28 pm at 9:28 pm #992921squeakParticipantI don’t mean to contradict, but I was around back when a user could select a different handle (screen name) from the login name. That feature has been disabled for users, but some older names remain “permanently” different from their respective logins.
I agree with you about temporary changes though 🙂
June 18, 2010 2:15 am at 2:15 am #992922d aMemberWhere did this “shtik” of changing the “Member” under the screen name come from?

June 18, 2010 3:33 pm at 3:33 pm #992928YW Moderator-80MemberJoseph(if he actually exists)could be anyone. In truth, if we examine ourselves, we are all Joseph. Joseph is a legend, a mushal, an intangible phantom who will haunt the halls of YWN as long as it exists. Wherever there is a wrong to be righted, there you will find Joseph (and possibly Zorro)
June 18, 2010 3:42 pm at 3:42 pm #992929squeakParticipantDon’t go all Zen on this one. He is iconic, but that’s all.
