Not sure if theres a way to fix this, but I’m using firefox now and when there are only a few posts on a page, only the latest one appears.
May 10, 2010 12:58 am at 12:58 am #992829farrockgrandmaParticipant1- my browser of choice, Opera, cannot handle the new format. It freezes whenever I try to open YeshivaWorld. If I have to open a different browser window to view YeshivaWorld, I’ll be reading it a lot less often.
2- The new front page has a lot more information, but it is very very busy. I would prefer a heading with ‘Today’s top stories’ followed by all the rest. In any case, a date/time stamp on the stories would be a useful addition.
May 10, 2010 3:07 am at 3:07 am #992830cherrybimParticipantI think the people have spoken; they liked it the way it was, but not the way it is now.
Thanks for trying but let’s have the old YW back.
May 10, 2010 3:21 am at 3:21 am #992831cherrybimParticipantI just discovered that if you hit “All News”, it takes you back to the original News format which I find much more to my liking. You might want to enable the members design their own personal opening page along the lines of Optimum.
May 10, 2010 3:50 am at 3:50 am #992832Harav YitzParticipantI liked the old version better, b/c there I was able to see the headlines, and get the basic idea of the story without having to hit the link. Additionaly, now everything is so small, and hard to see.
Please switch back!!!
May 10, 2010 11:58 am at 11:58 am #992833Mosh3Memberthe truth is i dont know why people are complaining. first of all not everything you want you get exactly at the moment you want it. this generation is all about instant gratification!! what happened to a little bit of paitence, so you gotta wait a bit for the page to upload. you are so so so important that you cant wait. i mean really!!! and we should be grateful that yeshiva world doesnt charge us for reading the news and blogs and have appreciation for the hard work they do! so far i have not read one thank you!! so i am here to guys at yeshiva world thank you for all that you are doing and keep up the good work!!!!
May 10, 2010 12:00 pm at 12:00 pm #992834seeallsidesParticipantI think it’s great – you have a lot of room for growth and adding things – I liked the old one, and the new one shows careful thought to improvements. I like the consolidated look so that i don’t have to browse all the way down (while holding my cup of coffee) I like the condensed story, so that i can choose what i want to read quickly. The smaller pictures are fine – i can always click them if i want to get a bigger view. Change is always hard for people, but this works great. The only feature i don’t love is your Simcha page. I would love a little more information about the baalei simcha – The maiden name, and location, the grandparent’s name, and we all love to see a simcha – (check out OS)
May 10, 2010 2:18 pm at 2:18 pm #992835Imma613Participantthe new format is quite unappealing to the eye. Your headlines have shrunk to the point that they are hard to read. And no I am NOT of the generation that wants instant gratification. I just want to be able to quickly scan the headlines and read whichever articles seem interesting. With the new format I essentially don’t bother.
May 10, 2010 5:45 pm at 5:45 pm #992836just lookingParticipantkeep it the old way it was easier to read
May 10, 2010 6:04 pm at 6:04 pm #992837judaMemberwhen is the old coming back theres nothing to read on the opening page of new all stories to small
May 10, 2010 6:58 pm at 6:58 pm #992838ggParticipantIt’s hard to follow and it looks like the Jerusalem Post or CNN. Why did you have to make such a dramatic change, what was wrong with the old heimish look, now if you want to check out the news, you have to browse all over until you get to the section that you want bla, bla bla – why not leave it with the news coming out chronologically.
And by the way, it should be an opportunity for you to do a recheck of lashon hara -I must say it was very upsetting to read some of your articles from the past few weeks, and I was wondering if you had become less strict in your halachic observance which we all appreciate and that’s why we choose to read you and not the goyishe news.
May 10, 2010 10:55 pm at 10:55 pm #992839YW Moderator-99MemberBTW – for all those that want all the stories in chronological order – you can set this as your homepage http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/article.php/
May 10, 2010 11:12 pm at 11:12 pm #992840cherrybimParticipantMuch better,thanks.
May 10, 2010 11:19 pm at 11:19 pm #992841cherrybimParticipantDo you just did feed Wheaties to the new YWN? It’s real quick now.
May 10, 2010 11:23 pm at 11:23 pm #992842YW Moderator-42ModeratorI think that this link works better: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news_cat.php?cat=all
May 10, 2010 11:23 pm at 11:23 pm #992843d aMemberThis is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Faster! Bigger Text! It is a pleasure!!!
YW, we love ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 10, 2010 11:28 pm at 11:28 pm #992844d aMemberHowever, the problem with the page getting cut off is still happening.
Anyone else having the same problem?
May 10, 2010 11:50 pm at 11:50 pm #992845rcParticipantwondering why the page does not fill up the whole screen? i have wide margins of white which seem intentional but that paired with a way too wide for no reason, right margin column, make the lead stories way too small to read comfortably.
May 10, 2010 11:58 pm at 11:58 pm #992846d aMemberI got this message a number of times:
This page contains the following errors:
error on line 10 at column 39: Entity ‘raquo’ not defined
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.
Can a YW tech look into this.
May 11, 2010 12:30 am at 12:30 am #992847HIEParticipantthe big text and speed is great, KEEP IT UP YWN!!!
May 11, 2010 12:32 am at 12:32 am #992848potpieMemberTwo comments, first of all, the CR seems quite busy today. Yesterday there were threads that were 3 days old, and today all of the threads are less than a day old!
Second, is it just me, or did the number of links to CR threads at the top of the CR main page shrink? I feel like there are less links than there used to be, which might account for comment number one.
Thanks so much for making YWN load much faster now!
May 11, 2010 12:33 am at 12:33 am #992849potpieMemberThe top of the page is cut off.
May 11, 2010 12:50 am at 12:50 am #992850d aMemberA way to fix this problem is to cut out all the extra stuff in the URL. For example:
This is the current URL:
Remove this:
#post-126643
So your left with:
This is something you can do to any thread. Hopefully, the YW technicians will fix this annoying problem very soon.
Also I don’t understand what you mean:
Second, is it just me, or did the number of links to CR threads at the top of the CR main page shrink? I feel like there are less links than there used to be, which might account for comment number one.
What links are you referring to?
May 11, 2010 2:41 am at 2:41 am #992851d aMemberWhy are there no dates on articles?
EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE ON THE MAIN YW PAGE SHOULD HAVE A DATE!!!
On the old site, dates were even on the main screen.
I don’t get it!
May 11, 2010 2:55 am at 2:55 am #992852cherrybimParticipantda- For Dates on the main screen, Hit “All News” on the Home Page or go to:
May 11, 2010 5:37 am at 5:37 am #992853kapustaParticipantAm I pushing my luck if I put in a word for a different font? I must say, the size has gotten much MUCH better. Thanks everyone!
May 11, 2010 3:47 pm at 3:47 pm #992854yungerman1ParticipantThe site is getting better. However, dates are needed.
In the business news, one line reads “Stocks Rally” and a several lines later it says “Stocks Slide”!!!!!!
May 11, 2010 4:26 pm at 4:26 pm #992855d aMembercherrybim, I see that. Thanks.
But, the date should be on the main page BY EVERY ARTICLE as well.
Also, the date should be in the article as well. One reason, if someone prints out an article, the date will be there.
May 11, 2010 8:26 pm at 8:26 pm #992856coconutMemberMod99, thanks for that tip regarding seeing all the articles chronoligically. A bit strange to have all the articles in full detail, takes up alot of space, alot of scrolling, takes getting used to but I think I DO prefer it to the current new YW. Bottom line, I still have what I want – everything in order with the ability to see what I want and not miss anything. (These are comments, not complaints.) the old is still better but if I can’t have that, this may be a good compromise. Thanks!
May 11, 2010 8:29 pm at 8:29 pm #992857coconutMemberMod42 – YES!!! Thanks! Now I am reconciled to eveything. That link solves all my significant issues; that’s what I’m going to use. Thank you all!
May 12, 2010 11:41 pm at 11:41 pm #992858I can only tryMemberMain Page
-If the main news section could be expanded to more than five stories that would be nice.
done
-Number of comments is something people like to see.
done
-Headings should not be truncated.
basically done. now terminates with “…”

Coffee Room
-If the formatting issue can be resolved, a restoration of forty items per page and forty threads shown on the main CR page would be nice. Dare I request fifty?
done
fixed (if it’s not too technical and it’s not giving away “classified info” I’m curious about the cause of the slowness and its fix.)
Thanks a lot. Well done!
May 13, 2010 7:53 am at 7:53 am #992859d aMemberThe CR is so much better now B”H! The speed! Compared to what we were going through, this is geshmak! Many of the problems are gone. Everything seems to be working fine. Thanks for a quick and well done job!!!
May 13, 2010 9:55 pm at 9:55 pm #992860AvrahamParticipantWhy can’t I receive the news stories to my new email address, even though I subscribed through the website?
I have also tried contacting you through the appropriate webpage, but to no avail.
This is very frustrating.
May 13, 2010 10:03 pm at 10:03 pm #992861AvrahamParticipantAfter posting my previous post, I noticed that it gave my full name. When I originally set up my profile I used a nickname.
Even though I now went back to the “edit profile” page, I could not find a way to use a nickname instead of my full name.
Can you please give me some direction with this?
Thank you.
May 14, 2010 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm #992862d aMemberThis is so dumb.
The following was posted on the Bechatzros Hakodesh section on the main CR page.
The Mashgiach, Rav Don Segal Shlita arrived today in NY, where he will remain for the next three weeks.
Whay is there no date on the article?
When did he arrive? When is he leaving?
Is it so hard to put dates on your articles???
May 14, 2010 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #992863d aMemberI was on the Photo Album section of your site, and where it says:
Recent YWN Photos
View our archive of photo albums at http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/gallery/
Please submit your photos of interest to [email protected]
When I clicked on http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/gallery/ it took me to http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/gallery/upgrade/index.php which is Gallery Upgrade 2.3.
Someone should look into this.
May 15, 2010 7:43 pm at 7:43 pm #992865nnnnnnMemberthe same thing happened to me! and when i tried to upgrade it said that it cant authenticate me.
May 16, 2010 6:48 pm at 6:48 pm #992866d aMembernnnnnn, upgrading is not for you. It’s for the owners of this site.
May 16, 2010 7:17 pm at 7:17 pm #992867d aMemberWhat happened? The site seems to be going back to its slowness.
Anyone else seeing it?
May 16, 2010 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm #992868hereorthereMemberThis thread along with a few others is highlighted in darker background and the word “sticky” is next to it.
What does it mean to be “sticky”.
I used that word once to indicate my post might have been very crotroversial or uncomfortable to talk about.
Is that what it means here?
If not, then what does it mean here?
Please someone, explain.
Thanks in advance.
May 16, 2010 7:54 pm at 7:54 pm #992869d aMember[sticky] are a number of threads that the editors think you should see. What [sticky] does is it keeps those threads on the top of the CR list even if they haven’t been commented on recently. Understand?
May 16, 2010 8:33 pm at 8:33 pm #992870hereorthereMemberD a; Yes I understand now, thanks for the explanation.
May 23, 2010 6:28 pm at 6:28 pm #992871YW Moderator-42ModeratorReceived in email:
I can’t seem to be able to reply to any CR threads in Safari or Chrome for Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 . The reply box is not visible. Also, I find the new mobile interface slightly better, but I feel left out, as an iPod (iPhone OS) user that there is no app for me. Blackberry has one.
May 24, 2010 7:36 am at 7:36 am #992872music lover29MemberDont know if this was addressed yet or not, but I find it extremely annoying when on the smaller headlines, the headline usually doesn’t fit on the front page, and you have to click on each one to see fully what its talking about. Maybe make the space for that bigger??
May 24, 2010 6:44 pm at 6:44 pm #992873aaymParticipantIt looks good, but needs the dates added to the articles, and also the e-mails need to be like the old system, so that we can read it with browsing.
Thanks
May 24, 2010 9:15 pm at 9:15 pm #992874d aMemberWhats the new shtick with the yellow?
May 24, 2010 9:16 pm at 9:16 pm #992875YW Moderator-80MemberAs long as your post is in yellow, it means it is still awaiting moderation
May 24, 2010 9:19 pm at 9:19 pm #992876d aMemberSo maybe, while it is yellow, we can edit our posts?
May 24, 2010 9:28 pm at 9:28 pm #992878YW Moderator-80MemberYou have five minutes to edit it after you first submit it.
May 24, 2010 9:32 pm at 9:32 pm #992879d aMember80, I know that. But why can’t we edit our post until the moderators post our post?
