The best possible pet to have is your friend’s dog. Do your friends a favor, and get them this wonderful pet.

Once you troll that, I will tell you that you remind me that when I was growing up, they came out with virtual pets (also known as Giggapets, or Tamagotchi pets, as that was the name of the company that came out with the idea). It was a small handheld device with a a pet on the screen. With the press of a button, you could feed it, take it on a walk or let it sleep. Sometimes it would “wake up,” “get hungry” or “get tired” and you would have to take care of it.

    Your post doesn’t make sense

I should get myself a dog or my friend a dog or I should take my friend’s dog?

Anyway I see it as a growing trend to get a dog

    I’ll stick with my goldfish

    They don’t bite
They don’t need to be house trained
They don’t need to be fed often
    They love you the same

Had a guy in my office yesterday . He looked tired, I asked him what’s wrong
    Has a brand new puppy
Needs to walk it every two hours so it doesn’t mess up his house “but it’s soooo worth it”
Walking behind an animal cleaning up after it sounds so delightful
When did we become a society controlled by animals, it’s supposed to be the other way around

I’d respectfully suggest that an alternative to goldfish is simply to purchase several “Beware of the Dog” signs and place them at your driveway entrance and on your front and back doors. You get all of the benefits of goldfish in terms of not having to walk them, feed them, etc. PLUS the security benefits you are unlikely to get from “Beware of the Goldfish” signs.

    Chinese people eat dog meat.

    ‘Chinese people eat dog meat…’
Most Chinese restaurants serving dog meat lack a good hashgacha.

My kids got the goldfish at their sukkah fair because the person doing the stand gave them for free

Accessories aren’t expensive and I don’t think it’s right to dump them down the toilet (people advise against doing it because they eat other fish until they become huge)

    Fun fact:

Goldfish actually spend all their time plotting murders. Fortunately, every single one of their plans involves using their hands, and they do not have hands.

To ujm: I think you are kidding. Your comment is as funny as the one about Jews making matzoh with the blood of gentile children.

To the Mods: I suggest you take down ujm’s comment, and if take my suggestion, you can also take down my comment.

    huju,

I think you are a mah-yafis. Eating dog meat is banned in some Chinese cities but is allowed in most others and there’s even been an annual festival dedicated to it. Are your infantile woke sensibilities so ruffled by the truth that you actually compared it to the insidious blood libel lie?

The mods should permanently ban your sick kapo comments.

When we put together an insomniac, agnostic and a dyslexic, he cannot sleep because he questions whether there is ‘dog’.

I have 5 dogs. I live in small town America on sufficient acreage that the dogs have a half acre fenced area to run and play and poop. I open a door into the fenced area and out they go. I have never had to walk a dog or clean up their waste.
They were great comfort to Mrs. CTL I. Her multi year confined illness prior to death and helpful to me in my adjustment to widowed life.
I would not want to have a dog in an apartment and have to walk the dog at all hours and in all kinds of weather.

I don’t doubt that it lifts the spirits of many
I just have an aversion to having a pet that can always decide to eat me
Wouldn’t get a baby tiger for the same reasons

    #2186881

Mishna lists animals that are always muad. Dog is not one of them. But having a dangerous dog might have halachic problems indeed.

I obviously meant the “eat me “ part as a joke
    But I just googled it
4.5 million bites in the US annually
    800,000 requiring medical attention

If you’re concerned about the annual nationwide bite statistics, I suggest you get a shark. Sharks hardly bite anyone.

    You should read perek shira:
The dog is a dedicated and cherished pet that recognizes its master and subjugates itself entirely to his will. Dog in Hebrew is “כלב ,”which is a contraction of the words “לב כולו”, meaning “entirely heart”. This refers to the dog’s unashamed expression of its heart’s will, as well as its wholehearted devotion to the master who feeds it, whom it will protect even at the risk of its
own life. The dog sings that mankind, too, should serve the ultimate master, Hashem, with comparative allegiance.

Since our dogs range in weight from 6-13 lbs, the risk of them eating us is not a concern.

Loyalty to the Master, Hashem brought loyalty to the master. The dogs did not bark when we left Mitzraim. The goy gets neveila, whereas the dog gets rewarded with teraifa. It says that one who speaks lashan hara deserves to be thrown to the dogs. They did not bark but he barks.

Yet the dog was one of the animals that didn’t follow the “no being with your mate” in the תיבה

A relative of mine has a German shepherd
    110 pounds (I call it a wolf)
My kids want to know if they can put a saddle on it and ride it

    my apologizes to The Wolf

But it’s huge, and fortunately (i guess) it likes me, which means I get pounced on every time I enter the house. so I find myself face to face (on its hind legs its 6 ft tall) with something that I can only describe as the creature from little red riding hood
