Does anyone know where I can find and download this song? ( Yes i know its not his song) I want the one specifically when he’s singing. I think he recorded it for the special childrens center.
maybe if someone has it on their computer they can email it to the mod who can email it to me…
Thanks a ton!
February 17, 2013 9:58 pm at 9:58 pm #983035WIYMemberIts a non Jewish song and you got the name wrong. Try googling for it but from what I heard he isn’t happy that he was recorded and doesn’t want people to have that recording but obviously he can’t control what people do.

I also noticed this new section that looks like YWN is working on http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news_cat.php?cat=17
Just give it a minute to see if the videos load.
I say give us the link here – we want to see!

February 18, 2013 1:18 am at 1:18 am #983043shnitzyMemberDo you mean ” You raise me up”, from the secret garden, recently sung by Josh Groban?
Google it. The Shwekey version should pop up in the last couple hundred links…

February 18, 2013 11:11 pm at 11:11 pm #983046WIYMemberThere’s no way its on youtube because he would have them take it down. I know people who have it on their ipods.
February 19, 2013 4:39 am at 4:39 am #983047Yserbius123ParticipantIs it the Diaspora Yeshiva Band song Hafachta? It starts with:
You brought me up when I was down,
Oh yes you did.
I’m not sure about posting YouTube links, but searching for Diaspora Yeshiva and Hafachta brought up the song.
February 19, 2013 10:41 pm at 10:41 pm #983048shnitzyMemberWe established what it is. It is quite possible you can find it on personal blogs as well…
October 25, 2013 12:17 am at 12:17 am #983050rabbi_drParticipantanyone have any luck finding this?
October 25, 2013 3:47 am at 3:47 am #983051Rational ThinkerParticipantIt’s all up to HKBH , no luck involved.
October 25, 2013 3:58 am at 3:58 am #983052Bookworm120ParticipantI’m somewhat surprised that Yaakov Shwekey sang a Josh Groban song, so I’ll admit I’m pretty curious myself.
I’m also mildly surprised to see that James Bond is a moderator here. I guess I should really hold off on my Sean Connery impressions. (On the Jokes thread, I did make a rather discriminatory remark against people who lisp….)

Inherent contradiction there. Does he have control or doesn’t he?

October 25, 2013 6:07 am at 6:07 am #983055mom80MemberWhy would he take someone else’s song?
October 25, 2013 8:33 am at 8:33 am #983056LevAryehMemberIt’s actually not a Josh Groban song, although he may have made it famous. It’s originally Secret Garden, sung by Brian Kennedy.
October 25, 2013 12:54 pm at 12:54 pm #983057Bookworm120ParticipantAh, thanks for clarifying. I actually don’t listen to Josh Groban, so I wouldn’t have known. 🙂

October 26, 2013 6:18 pm at 6:18 pm #983059mom80MemberEither way it’s gezel and Chillul Hashem..
October 27, 2013 12:25 am at 12:25 am #983060WIYMembermom80
Not sure its gezel, you have many singers covering others songs especially this song, and additionally this wasnt meant for public distribution so it was just a singer singing a song at a random event that wasnt meant to be recorded. It was a concert and a special child made the request of him and he reluctantly gave in and sang the song. I dont know if its a chillul Hashem or not obviously I dont think we should be singing non Jewish songs but the lyrics and tune happen to be inspirational so I dont know. But I definitely think A.K.A. Pella 4, Maccabeats, Mattisyahu and similar cds are a chillul Hashem.
October 27, 2013 6:13 am at 6:13 am #983061mom80MemberAnd he just so happened to know the song by heart?
I heard it a bit differently. I heard that he made his OWN rendition of the song, but took some parts of the Josh Groban song and tried to make it “his”. When he was called to task on it, he immediately had it removed from the internet. If it was so kosher, he wouldn’t have had to do that
October 27, 2013 3:43 pm at 3:43 pm #983062WIYMemberMom80
Its not geneiva though. The only time you may not cover a song without consent of the copyright holder is when you intend to monetize your recording but if you weren’t selling it but just did it for kicks it’s no problem. I agree that maybe it would have been better that he never had recorded it in the first place but I don’t take him to task for knowing the song. He isn’t oiver any aveira for hearing a man sing a song that has nothing inappropriate in it.
