we all, or rather some of us (to be more specific, I) have our moments when we feel foolish for not understanding the newest gadgets or tech language…. When this happens, dont you feel ancient?!

Actually, the new gadgets I don’t understand make me feel like I’ve landed on another planet — without having known I was on a spaceflight. Although after seeing the Fox News report this morning about spyware programs in most SmartPhones, I’m sort of glad I’m satisfied to stick to the “old” stuff.

Charlie Brown, that’s well taken, but owning a device that is basically an open invitation to spy on me isn’t the same as living my life without such devices, and then if somebody does snoop it’s at least not because I gave them the chance.

You are getting old when you remember when:

    1. Jews were banned from Jerusalem other than its western suburbs

    2. guides to keeping kosher emphasized how to check the list of ingredients

    3. it was largely unheard of for anyone to wear a yarmulke in public outside a frum neighborhood

    4. “quotas” referred to a maximum number of Jews allowed to be admitted to a college, and only good colleges had quotas (they were referred to in Latin “Numerus clausus” to make it sound less offensive).

    5. Brooklyn has a major league baseball team

    6. American money was backed by something other than faith in the government

    7. There was general agreement that Yiddish would be extinct as a living language by the end of the 20th century

Maybe i’m old fashioned, but the idea of computers and electronic gadgets for young children is absurd to me. When i hear parents talking about running out on black friday, or during december sales to purchase computers or whatever electronic meshugas it’s called, i feel like saying, ‘what happened to dolls and doll accessories for girls? bikes? balls? outdoor activity fun? puzzles? books? Why stick a child in front of a computer screen when they have their whole adult life to be stuck there? let a kid live a little!?’
