In today’s daf (top of Yevamot 48b), there is a dispute as to what the Yifat To’ar cries about. The passuk says she cries over her parents, which Rabbi Eliezer takes literally. Rabbi Akiva, OTOH, says she cries for her loss of not serving Avoda Zarah. After she gets over being an Ovedet A”Z then one can take her in.
My questions is like this. How do we know what’s in her heart? She didn’t come willingly, like a regular ger. Maybe she still believes in A”Z?
Indeed, maybe she does. There are no guarantees in life.
