My son is interested in doing online college (that he has a full scholarship in) while going to Yeshiva. However his current first year Chofetz Chaim Yeshiva doesn’t really let any time taken off. What’s a good Yeshiva in America where he can go and only learn two Sedarim a day while doing online college for the rest of the time?
April 15, 2015 4:51 pm at 4:51 pm #1072631newbeeMemberCan I ask, what online college and what does he want to get out of it (i.e. do for a living)?
April 15, 2015 5:42 pm at 5:42 pm #1072632notsoshverMemberIt’s for a state university, but my question pertains more to finding a suitable yeshiva where he can learn seriously 2/3 of the day
April 15, 2015 6:02 pm at 6:02 pm #1072633oot for lifeParticipantShor Yoshuv in the past had a number of guys attending college in the evenings. As far as learning seriously, he will have to be self motivated, saw a few too many guys fall through the cracks there (this was a long time ago though, I hear changes are in the works).
April 15, 2015 6:29 pm at 6:29 pm #1072634popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhen will his current yeshiva begin allowing it?
April 15, 2015 7:06 pm at 7:06 pm #1072635notsoshverMemberChofetz Chaim Yeshivas are typically three Sedarim, in which online college isn’t technically possible unless one somehow does it during free time. I think fifth year in Queens they’re permitted to take classes but only allowed off two night sedarim a week.
April 15, 2015 7:21 pm at 7:21 pm #1072636zahavasdadParticipantOnline college degree arent worth the paper they are printed on, they are not accredited and they are super expensive
April 15, 2015 9:05 pm at 9:05 pm #1072637notsoshverMemberzahavasdad that statement was once true. However, nowadays online courses have little difference between any on campus degree in terms of employment. Furthermore, my sons degree program IS accredited by the highest form of accreditation available for this particular degree. And I already mentioned he has a full time scholarship.
April 15, 2015 11:56 pm at 11:56 pm #1072638popa_bar_abbaParticipantHow about maayan hatorah, in Queens.
April 16, 2015 12:10 am at 12:10 am #1072639popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhat’s wrong with YU?
April 16, 2015 12:12 am at 12:12 am #1072640popa_bar_abbaParticipantAre there any bummy yeshivos you think he’d like?
Fair warning: he may end up doing bummy things like wearing. His yarlmuke weird and talking bummy and not smoking.
April 16, 2015 12:15 am at 12:15 am #1072641popa_bar_abbaParticipantDoes you have any off the derech friends he can ask?
April 16, 2015 12:17 am at 12:17 am #1072642popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhy not do an online yeshiva, if you think they’re the same?
April 16, 2015 12:24 am at 12:24 am #1072643popa_bar_abbaParticipantChabad is into kiruv. Maybe a chabad yeshiva would be ok with it. I know there’s a big one in morristown, and a small one in Vancouver.

April 16, 2015 12:45 am at 12:45 am #1072647☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhy not do an online yeshiva, if you think they’re the same
No serious college will let.
April 16, 2015 12:49 am at 12:49 am #1072648birdsonParticipantI think Ohr Hachayim in Queens allows it. Most of the guys go Landers (about 15 minutes away) twice a week for part of afternoon and night seder. Some take online classes instead.
April 16, 2015 12:51 am at 12:51 am #1072649☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantChabad is into kiruv.

April 16, 2015 2:00 am at 2:00 am #1072652popa_bar_abbaParticipantGo to a real yeshiva and get married, then you don’t have to go to night seder.
April 17, 2015 7:37 pm at 7:37 pm #1072653Binyamin2711ParticipantI found the right yeshiva for you. Its Heichal Shmuel, On Ave O E 10th st. And they Have a program for Touro College guys twice a week for some who feel the could use it. They are very open to other colleges as well if you ask for it.
