Is Kerem B’Yavneh considered a top yeshiva?
What seminaries are it linked to?
December 14, 2014 8:11 pm at 8:11 pm #1048203Patur Aval AssurParticipantI don’t know much about it now, but it certainly was in Talmudic times.
December 15, 2014 2:46 am at 2:46 am #1048205MDGParticipantKBY is known as a good hesder yeshivah. As a hesder yeshivah it is clearly Zionist. But from what I understand, it’s not as Zionist as others. I heard that it’s religious hashkafa is more to the right of other hesder yeshivah.
December 15, 2014 4:06 pm at 4:06 pm #1048206sem613ParticipantIt depends what “world” you are asking about. In the YU world it is considered one of the top. In a more Yeshivish place, not so much. There are guys from there who end up going into long term learning. The American part and the Hesder part seem pretty separate hashkaficly from what I hear.
It’s not officially linked to a seminary, but if you are asking who the guys end up marrying/ where their sisters go: Michlalah, MMY, sometimes Machon Raaya. So a wide range, at the junction of Modern Orthodox/YU and Bais Yaakov
December 15, 2014 5:01 pm at 5:01 pm #1048207Sam2ParticipantIt’s towards the right end of “MO”. Most of the Rabbonim there are not of the “YU Hashkafa” but most of the guys go to YU. It’s a good place that always has guys who can learn on a high level. Most guys come from “Modern”/right-wing Modern high schools, but they’re all most of the top guys from their years.
December 15, 2014 5:12 pm at 5:12 pm #1048208stam a deyaMemberWhy don’t you try Toras Moshe or Bais Yisroel instead ?
December 15, 2014 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #1048209Chochom-ibberParticipant“The American part and the Hesder part seem pretty separate hashkaficly from what I hear.”
The Hesder section obviously has their hashkofos but the Chutznik part has absolutely no hashkafa at all. The hashkafa is – you can listen to the Hesder rant and choose if you want to hear, basically you’re on your own, if you call that a hashkafa.
December 15, 2014 6:32 pm at 6:32 pm #1048210edisonirhakodeshMemberAs First-year bais medrish yeshivas go, KBY is the top or near to it. People stay away from it because it is a hesder place, but the American program is azionistic.
December 16, 2014 1:11 pm at 1:11 pm #1048211jackm613MemberI would only be applying to the American programme.
I have heard that KBY has the top standard of learning along with Tomo.
Is this true?
Lots of boys go onto Mir?
Also, Bais apparently is for less serious boys so I would not be thinking of going their.
December 16, 2014 7:24 pm at 7:24 pm #1048212Sam2Participantjack: They are both good, but from the many people who went to both that I know, the average guy at KBY can probably learn a bit better than the average ToMo guy. But they’re both better than your average first-year Beis Medrash program.

Does Yeshivas Ner Yisroel in Baltimore attract similar types of boys as Kby?
December 18, 2014 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #1048214jackm613MemberAnyone?
December 18, 2014 9:05 pm at 9:05 pm #1048215MDGParticipantThere may be some overlap, but it seems to me that they attract different types of young men. KBY is hesder, whereas NIRC is an American and Yeshivish – from what I understand more “out of town” yeshivish.
