Ok- I’m sorry but this was WAY over the line.
NBC and YBC. They may rhyme, but they have no business being on TV- what in the world? It is Jewish music, little Jewish boys, and it’s cuz jewish music is SUPPOSED TO MAKE US SEPERATE from the goyim. It’s OUR music, not THEIRS and has no business being on TV.
yeshiva boys choir and NBC do not mix- what in the world????!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Why is everyone trying to be the next one-hit-wonders like ‘candlelight’? Is this what jewish music is about? trying to be viral on youtube or get a spot on a TV show? there is a reason why there is such a concept of jewish music, and I feel like since ‘candlelight’ everything has gone so downhill.
Agree? I want to hear.
December 19, 2011 6:10 pm at 6:10 pm #836289Sam2ParticipantIf Goyim like what Jews do is that a problem? What makes Jewish music special is that it’s appropriate and follows Halacha. Being on Youtube or TV won’t change that. It’s the best Pirsumei Nisa possible and it’s a Kiddush Hashem that is viewable to the whole world. How can you complain about that?
December 19, 2011 6:22 pm at 6:22 pm #836290WIYMemberDuggie
I was going to start such a thread myself. You beat me to it. Its very very wrong and I think a Chillul Hashem.
How can you put yeshiva boys on tv? (Not to mention that many of these boys had to probably miss yeshiva for this)
I really hope that some Rabbanim address this. The music business is literally like a runaway train. They do what they want and there’s no Daas Torah involved.
There’s no way any Rav would have allowed this.
This isn’t kiruv. This is Yavan. This is Hashem telling us, you want to be like goyim? Go ahead I won’t stop you. How apropo that this occurred the week of Chanukah.
For anyone who wants to dismiss it with a wave of the hand, don’t you SEE what is happening?! Every time something happens we dismiss it with a wave of he hand. We keep falling and keep making excuses why its ok or not a big deal. Its not ok and it is a big deal and I think this is a huge eye opener of where Jewish music is headed and what is the intentions of the people behind YBC the producers…they want fame and glory. Look how proud they are to be on TV. Its mamsih disgusting.
This is what happens when you produce music that idolizes goyish music and try to get the goyish rocky techno disco sounds.
December 19, 2011 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #836291DuggieMemberTo sam2;
and appropriate is being on TV???? To me that does not follow what constitutes Jewish, separate music.
you know how it goes, first they embrace us and then it’s a knife in the back. I know i just made a little ybc show on tv extremely melodramatic but this is how it starts.
As I’ve said before on CR I love candlelight, and do think it is a kiddush Hashem to have the world view us in a better light. what I don’t like is all of these music videos competing to get viral and be and tv etc.. don’t get me wrong- I love all of them, and have seen all of them and like ’em all just like the next guy, it’s just principle of the matter.
December 19, 2011 6:41 pm at 6:41 pm #836292apushatayidParticipantJust a thought. Perhaps if people would pay for music instead of copying it from their friends and family, groups like YBC wouldn’t have to reach out beyond their core target audience to try and generate interest in their music.
December 19, 2011 6:49 pm at 6:49 pm #836293MacherishMemberNOT A KIDDUSH HASHEM WHATSOEVER!!! Im sorry, but this is WAAAAAY over the top!!! What are they thinking?!!?!?!
December 19, 2011 7:02 pm at 7:02 pm #836294tzaddiqMemberDuggie -that’s how i felt precisely. i turned to my wife and said, what’s next?
you said it first. this is just the beginning, who knows what this will spiral into. i hope it stops right here. i hope.
December 19, 2011 7:18 pm at 7:18 pm #836295Anonym613ParticipantActually, the TV show was on CBS, not NBC.
But I agree with everyone who is against this performance.
It does not belong on TV.
December 19, 2011 7:18 pm at 7:18 pm #836296apushatayidParticipantI tried to google this appearance on NBC. Are you sure you dont mean FOX?
December 19, 2011 7:21 pm at 7:21 pm #836297passfanMemberCan someone please explain what these abbreviations (nbc, cbs, fox) refer to?
December 19, 2011 7:26 pm at 7:26 pm #836298✡onegoal™ParticipantI found it a little weird that they were on television. It was a big mistake that they will probably pay for.
December 19, 2011 7:33 pm at 7:33 pm #836300Sam2ParticipantCan someone give an actual Halachic and non-emotional reason for being opposed to this? Until you can, why are you criticizing this?
December 19, 2011 7:35 pm at 7:35 pm #836301yentingyentaParticipanti thought it was on CBS
cbs-central broadcastng stations
nbc-national broadcasting corp
December 19, 2011 7:39 pm at 7:39 pm #836302Raphael KaufmanMemberYenta, CBS stands for Columbia Broadcasting System
December 19, 2011 7:47 pm at 7:47 pm #836303apushatayidParticipantFOX as in well, FOX. I watched a clip of YBC on FOX 5 NY. Perhaps they are making the rounds of all networks?
December 19, 2011 7:53 pm at 7:53 pm #836304zahavasdadParticipantI just found the video on youtube and there was nothing wrong with it.
What about the Persume Nissa. Imagine a secular jew watching this , and the only holiday songs he knows are related to christmas and now he sees a bunch of jewish boys singing about Chanukah.
Now he feels good about lighting the Menorah and maybe doesnt put up his Chanukah Bush this year.
If one person did not put up a Chanukah Bush beause of this appearence it was One thousand times persume nissa than a Menorah on 13th Ave
December 19, 2011 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #836305yentingyentaParticipantOh. My mistake.
December 19, 2011 8:02 pm at 8:02 pm #836306littleappleMemberSorry, but we would need a Mordechai to tell us this was an Achashverosh party and chillul H’ lacking that although I did not see it just how do you know it is not a kiddush H’? Have you forgotten or perhaps you are not aware of how badly and deeply our Father in heaven misses the millions of children who are trapped in non jewish mind sets and who this kind of thing just might touch in a good way through the medium they have access to? In Eretz Yisrael Hidabroot has a tv channel that broadcasts 24/6 and results in a spreading of Torah and teshuva, they would like to expand here as well.

December 19, 2011 8:14 pm at 8:14 pm #836309DuggieMemberyoysh I’m so confused…….
December 19, 2011 8:15 pm at 8:15 pm #836310mikehall12382MemberWhat’s the big deal…A lot of fear mongering, a lot of people calling it wrong, a lot of people who aren’t backing up their statements with a clear halachic argument on why it’s wrong…and saying it goyish or it’s just wrong is not good enough….
December 19, 2011 8:23 pm at 8:23 pm #836311DuggieMemberSometimes things are wrong even if it is not explicitly written in halacha, the spirit of the law, people call it.
I’m not a halachic expert so I have no idea which halacha it is but at the end of the day, the whole thing is fishy.
December 19, 2011 8:34 pm at 8:34 pm #836312YBC rocksMemberso there thats why they did it
December 19, 2011 8:42 pm at 8:42 pm #836313zahavasdadParticipantFYI YBC not all the Holiday songs on the Radio are christmas songs, The Adam Sandler hannukah Song is played almost as much as Santa Claus is coming to town
I dont know if they play Matisyahu Miracle on the radio alot..
December 19, 2011 8:52 pm at 8:52 pm #836314JotharMemberThe song itself was meant to be somewhat secular- it is about someone who used to celebrate hannukah but no longer does. If it works to get people sentimental about hannukah, kol hakavod. But the song isn’t geared for frum people.
December 19, 2011 9:36 pm at 9:36 pm #836315cinderellaParticipantI’m with Sam2 and zahavasdad on this one. What makes it a Chillul Hashem? It’s a Kiddush Hashem and Pirsumei Nisa.
December 19, 2011 10:18 pm at 10:18 pm #836316kapustaParticipantI didn’t understand the live performance thing, or why 50,000 views made it a viral but other than that I thought it was great.
(As for the taking off thing, maybe they had younger kids who don’t have school on Sunday?)
December 19, 2011 10:43 pm at 10:43 pm #836317passfanMemberBoys that age have Yeshiva on Sunday.
December 19, 2011 11:21 pm at 11:21 pm #836318cinderellaParticipantSeriously?? You care about the fact that they missed school?
December 19, 2011 11:39 pm at 11:39 pm #836319✡onegoal™ParticipantRB- You really think so? I can hear Duggie, but Peerimsameach?
December 19, 2011 11:44 pm at 11:44 pm #836320passfanMembercinderella: Missing Yeshiva means missing Limud Torah. What is the justification for skipping Limud Torah?
December 20, 2011 12:03 am at 12:03 am #836321gefenParticipantUm – sounds like a lot of you who are so against this, actually saw it on TV! do you have TV? why is that ok- and ybc singing one song not ok?
December 20, 2011 12:06 am at 12:06 am #836322real-briskerMemberonegoal – Yup.
December 20, 2011 12:11 am at 12:11 am #836323plumbaMemberAm I the only person here terribly bothered by the inherent lashon hora contained in both the original comment and in the comments? Even if it is wrong, what toeles is there in discussing this? This is a mans parnassa you are adversly affecting!!!
December 20, 2011 12:27 am at 12:27 am #836324yentingyentaParticipantgefen, matzav had it on their website yesterday. thats where i saw it.
December 20, 2011 12:28 am at 12:28 am #836325cherrybimParticipantWhat’s next, chassidic Chazzanim appearing with symphony orchestras with women musicians in way untzniusdic low cut sleeveless dresses?
Hey y’all; get a life and enjoy. The kids were terrific and they don’t need your yapping off. They work hard and we shep nachas.
December 20, 2011 4:01 am at 4:01 am #836326Think firstMemberIf u don’t understand what’s wrongs with what they did the fire inside u has got to reignited!!!
December 20, 2011 4:15 am at 4:15 am #836327cinderellaParticipantpassfan- I don’t think it’s that big a deal.
And if you’re so concerned about Bitul Torah, why are you here? Get off your computer and go learn.
December 20, 2011 4:58 am at 4:58 am #836328passfanMemberYou seriously think skipping Yeshiva for a choir or TV show is no big deal?
December 20, 2011 5:42 am at 5:42 am #836329koillel101MemberI’m surprised at how many of the parents allowed their sons to go on the show. I really don;t think its appropriate.
December 20, 2011 8:17 am at 8:17 am #836330commonsenseParticipantfirst of all, no is complaining about the video or the song they are complaining that these boys were performing them on television. This song is geared to a religious audience because YBC sell pretty exclusively to the frum world and usually does not try to market to the outside world.
Personally I highly agree with all those who think it was inappropriate to have these yiddeshe neshomalach perform on live TV.
December 20, 2011 1:39 pm at 1:39 pm #836334mylogic37ParticipantWhat makes you think they missed yeshiva? Look at the video. It was 7:55AM when they did their bit. So lets say they finished at 8:05. All they need to do is go back to Brooklyn from Manhattan. At worst they were a few minutes late to Yeshiva!! All of you seriously need to get a life and stop hating everyone and anything that you do not agree with.
December 20, 2011 2:59 pm at 2:59 pm #836335oomisParticipantPersonally, I think it’s great for the public to see well-dressed menschlech kids who are not doing drugs, who are not walking, talking or singing like bums, representing Yeshivah youth in a musical rendition of OUR winter chag.
December 20, 2011 3:08 pm at 3:08 pm #836336Mayan_DvashParticipantWhy are you complaining? You have a problem with YBC going on a morning show on TV? If that’s where you “set the bar” why do you even watch TV?
;
December 20, 2011 3:19 pm at 3:19 pm #836337cherrybimParticipantHey, hypocrites! The Internet, which you are on right this minute, is infinitely worse than a frum boys group on TV. The same goes for most cell phones. You are wasting more time with your blogs complaining than the nine year old kid’s batala.
December 20, 2011 3:28 pm at 3:28 pm #836338TheGoqParticipantOomis +1
December 20, 2011 3:35 pm at 3:35 pm #836339passfanMemberIf “X” and “Y” are both bad, if someone does one of the bad things he cannot point out that the other thing is bad?
If someone smokes cigerettes he cannot point out smoking marijuana is bad? Or even moreso, a smoker can’t tell a non-smoker that smoking itself is bad??
December 20, 2011 3:50 pm at 3:50 pm #836340BowwowParticipantI think it’s refreshing to see jews in the media without being associated with Bernie Madoff, illegally segregated bus lines, welfare fraud…. list keeps going
December 20, 2011 3:55 pm at 3:55 pm #836341Mayan_DvashParticipantpassfan, in your case it’s the pot smoker saying that cigarettes are bad.
