“Thousands are expected to arrive at Amuka to participate in the rare “1000 Shofars Tikkun” of the Mekubal Rav ………”
Unfortunately, I have serious doubts about the whole thing. However, if I were there, I admit to having an extreme desire to be the 1,001st Shofar Blower (then sing out “Werewolves of London”), just to see what would happen.
Ittisa is upset about the whole thing and how they are taking advantage of singles that would do anything for a shidduch. I don’t really care one way or the other.
Anyone have any thoughts?
January 21, 2013 5:09 pm at 5:09 pm #921960WIYMemberYes I was very angry and disgusted when I saw it. The wording is very arrogant and misleading. I don’t know how these people get away with this. I wish that the Yated and Hamodia wouldn’t allow this in their papers because they are partners in crime by allowing it and taking a cut or the advertising…for allowing it.
January 21, 2013 5:27 pm at 5:27 pm #921961miritchkaMemberAfter reading the insert, i called to find out more about it. Being easily swayed, or maybe because i am very naive, I almost went through with it for close family members who are single. Basically you have to pledge $36 for 18 months in order to get the amulet and be a part of the shofaros, which is where 1000 people blow shofar and R’ Yechiel Abuchatzeira reads the list of names with special kavanos. In addition to this, the yeshiva davens for that name until there is a mazel tov. Having alot of emunas chachomim, I was ready to pledge. However after speaking to my husband and other family members I was ‘shown the light’.
How could an organization do this to people?! This is such a sensitive issue and to throw it in peoples faces this way is horrible!!
Guess what I learned from all this? Tehillim, tzeddakah (yep on your own terms!), personal kabbalos, saying a specific tefillah 40 days in a row, etc…it all adds up in your favor up in shamayim and may those personal heartfelt tefillos, acts of kindness, kabbalos, bring us all what we need.

January 21, 2013 7:33 pm at 7:33 pm #921964apushatayidParticipantSomeone has a sense of humor. The 4 page advertisement for the Amuka segula appeared in last weeks issue of AMI magazine, which had a cover story “The Shidduch Crisis” (which interviewed those behind the recent advertisements and kol korehs about close in age marriages, boys marrying younger etc…).
January 21, 2013 7:57 pm at 7:57 pm #921965FerdParticipantI heard Kupat Hair has a new Segula now.
If you ca concoct a new Segula for them, and they use yours in their next campaign, you will find a shidduch, get married, have quads, win the lotto – all within 7 days.

And cure your baldness.

Good pickup. Age gap should have been reason 6.
January 22, 2013 3:50 am at 3:50 am #921969apushatayidParticipantI was flipping through the magazine looking for the cover story. When I saw in big letters “5 reasons you are not married”, I thought I found the article. It took a little more reading to figure out it wasnt the article I was looking for. The juxtaposition of the ad and article is just too funny.

Because the literature states that this Seguloh is unique to Tu b’Shevat {Something along the lines of the fruit being fruitful and getting married to be fruitful} so either:-
1) Are they blowing the 1000 Shoforos on Tu b’Shevat on Shabbos? Certainly, 1000 people is enough to make a Sanhedrin.
2) Are they blowing the Shoforos on some day other than Tu b’Shevat so as not to carry 1000 Shoforos to Amuka in a Reshus hoRabim on Shabbos? thereby missing the Seguloh date of Tu b’Shevat.

Did you end up reading the article? The author writes that without enough young men in the shidduch pool, no matter how many shidduch meetings and nose jobs there are, there still won’t be enough boys for all of the girls to get married. He could have added that no matter how many trips to Amukah are taken, and how many shofros are blown, there still won’t be enough boys.
