April 5, 2011 5:20 am at 5:20 am #880154wanderingchanaParticipantHe was a Muppet Show character, early 80s?
April 6, 2011 5:08 pm at 5:08 pm #880155Shticky GuyParticipantVideo and song is great. Just one thing’s wierd – when they say “rachel imenu sefardi, mama rochel ashkenazi”, the imahos kinda came before the sefardi and ashkenazi stuff!
Its like the pesach picture my kid brought home that has moshe rabeinu leading the yiden out of mitzrayim wearing a shtreimel…
April 6, 2011 7:07 pm at 7:07 pm #880156adorableParticipantSG- lol the shtreimel!
April 6, 2011 7:22 pm at 7:22 pm #880157phillybubbyParticipantShticky Guy–I think that they’re just saying that if you use the term “rachel imenu” that is sefardi (because of the word “imenu”) and the term “mama rochel” is ashkenazi (because of the word “mama”).
April 6, 2011 7:28 pm at 7:28 pm #880158ramateshkolianMemberSG-the point is the pronunciation- mama rochel is how ashkenazim pronounce it. It is a strange song, like what’s the point, but very catchy. I have a feeling that y’alili means something in some middle eastern language- does anyone know?
April 6, 2011 7:34 pm at 7:34 pm #880159flowersParticipantYalili is a word and girl’s name in Arabic. I don’t know though what it means.
April 6, 2011 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #880160avi eParticipant@Shticky: I think they are referring to the fact that Ashkenazim refer to Rachel Imeinu as “Mama Rochel,” while Sephardim refer to her as “Rachel Imeinu.”
April 7, 2011 2:43 am at 2:43 am #880161cooljudeMemberthe singin fish kinda creeped me out!
April 7, 2011 3:43 am at 3:43 am #880162wanderingchanaParticipantIt’s about all of us being one people – the yeshivish guy dancing in the middle of the sephardi guys? OK, I will admit that I don’t know for sure that they are sephardi, but the blue robes with gold trim don’t seem ashkenaz…
Tanz tanz tanz…
June 19, 2012 1:02 am at 1:02 am #880163moishyParticipantWhat about their new CD, “All You Got”?? [didan, didan, didan…]
