Sorry Baal but i think more blame should go to Rick Sanchez and the jets defense who just fell apart on that last drive.

Where is the mekor for not complimenting a goy ? Someone who saved Jews in the Holocaust doesn’t merit a thank you? A goy holds a door while your hands are full

After working for almost 20 years in the orthopedic field and seeing all the damage that sports does to people’s bodies at all ages, especially small children who are pushed into sports at crazy ages, doing multiple sports all year long, not giving their bodies a rest, having to undergo surgeries because of various injuries, I have a very hard time anymore buying into enthusiasm about sports.

Add to that my problems with who exactly are these participants, are they role models? How much money they make – is it even reasonable? How much you have to pay for tickets to a live event? What has happened to college sports over the years – are these players getting a college education at all? All of these questions have completely disillusioned me against sports at all levels. The only thing I think we should be doing is what Goq is – exercising for our health. Even casual games played amongst friends have ended up with people sustaining difficult injuries that lead to lifelong problems afterward. I’m not sure it’s worth it.

Nechoma, what you say makes absolute sense regarding football but then the addiction theory kicks in. I can put my desire to watch NFL games in remission but not fully kick the habit.

Basket ball maybe also but less so. Baseball there is limited chance of severe injury ( you can make the same argument about doing dangerous professions, can one be a cop?),

but football Lechatchila, is barbaric. On nearly every play the hits they make on players are extreme.

Perhaps this is why American society itself is so barbaric.

Adams, I disagree about baseball. The repetitive throwing activity has caused children I am aware of to have to have surgery after repeatedly pitching multiple games for their schools, travel teams, all-star teams, etc. Doctors have to shut them down when they are 12 years old because their parents push them so hard that their elbows can’t take it. Ever heard of TENNIS ELBOW? Injuries like that are almost impossible to heal from and even surgery is not a 100% cure-all. These types of injuries occur with repetitive activities of the elbow, so not just tennis is a culprit.

But, yes, you’re right about football- totally barbaric. What about soccer? Not so simple a call, but the number of high school kids I’ve seen with injuries is appalling. People just don’t pay attention where they’re running. I could go on and on, but you get my point.

Nechomah. are you advocating sitting on the sofa eating chips and reading a book all day?
