This is great, however this must be used to 1) stop the draft of Torah learners 2) increase kollel stipends 3)increase child allowances and the like.

Yeah get the working tax payers to have tax increases and more public service, Yeah that will work

zahava, isn’t the whole point to having a so called Jewish state is to have Yiddishkeit flourish? my measures would increase Torah. I hope you don’t prefer parades of people with an “alternative lifestyle”.

Someone has to provide to money for increased kollel Stipends, Increased Child allowenced and solders for the IDF

Where do you propose it will come from. If there are more learners and less earners, the earners will have to give more , simple economics

Re zahavadad’s comment on the learner/earner balance: What portion of the Jewish people would Hashem like to see as learners? 5%? 50%? He fed us with manna for 40 years in Bamidbar, and so, if He wanted 100% of us to be learners, we would see more manna falling from the sky. Anybody seen any? Not me either.

And how do we know who should be the learners and who should be the earners? If we can’t keep our white shirts tucked into our pants, or can’t keep our ties pulled up for a full 8 hours of work, does that me we should be learners?

Who says you need to have so many earners. Perhaps oil revenue will be enough to pay everyone as it is in many Arab countries.

Hold it, folks. If there is no two-state solution effected in 10 years, Israel will be majority-religious, and the religion will be Islam.

Huju, two points to answer that. First, Arab Israeli birth rates have declined to witin a hairs breadth of parity with Jewish birth rates in Israel. I think its 3.17 vs 3.11. In a few years the position will have been reversed. No one is certain of the statistics of Palestinians in Gaza and Yehuda Veshomron. Anecdotally it is still higher but also declining.

The other issue is the starting point. There is great skepticism about the number of Palestinians in Yehuda Veshomron and Gaza. By many accounts the number is inflated, perhaps by more than 1 million.

So the demographic ground is shifting away from an Arab majority. How fast is hard to tell, but 10 years might show us a distinct continuing trend.

    zahavasdad,

the income of religious is going up by leaps and bounds

So it’s a red herring for something else!

    zahavasdad,

even prior to last Gov’t the income of religious was going up, the attacks on charedim was BECAUSE of, rather than in spite of, their going to work
