I’m sure we are all tired of the endless cycle of war and terrorism besetting our medina for the past 65 years. Here’s wishing Rosh HaMemshala Bibi Netanyahu much hatzlacha on Medinat Yisrael’s current endeavor towards reaching a final and comprehensive peace agreement with the Palestinian people.

    L’chaim!

Instead of wishing him mazal you should wish him good luck. That can be said in a skeptical tone of voice.

The palestinians are not interested in peace, all they want is to destroy Israel

You see no hope other than another 65 years condemned to war and terrorism? So what if we strike back? That doesn’t bring back to life over 20,000 war casualties plus tens of thousands victims of terror. And many more maimed for life.

Mashiach will come before the palestinians ever agree to a peace treaty that they intend to keep. And I don’t mean that facetiously. Let’s just daven that it’s soon.

Toi, on the contrary, Rambam says (Hilchot Melachim 10:4) that Mashiach will fight Hashem’s wars. In other words, there will be an army and it will go all the way.

Likud (what a misnomer), success is that Abu Mazen walks out and the world wakes up. They do not want peace except on condition that we all pack up and leave.

Avi: So leave. Pikuach Nefesh does not take precedence over yishuv.

avi k- but the people who make up that army will not be those who forcibly remove the few full time torah learners from the beis medrash, nor will it be made up of those who proudly parade how they flaunt the will of G-d for the pleasures of this world. do you really think that an army that sanctions the presence of gay soldiers among their ranks can be tied to moshiach?

I pray wholeheartedly for peace. May our prayers and dreams come to fruition.

toi- hashem works in mysterious ways that we do not understand. Don’t you think it’s so incredible that Hashem would bring about the geulah through people that are not frum, but willing to risk their lives for other yidden?

Apers: yishuv and living in eretz yisroel are mitzvos dioraisa. Living in chutz laaretz is like worshipping idols according to the gemara in kesubos. Why would you deny Jews the opportunity to do these incredible holy mitzvos and tell them to leave eretz hakodosh??

What is wrong with sanctioning the presence of gay soldiers in the army? What would you have gay people do, exactly? Just commit suicide because they have no right to exist?

rational: As I said, there are only certain times a Jew is allowed to put his life at risk. Yishuv isn’t one of them. If one may lose his life by settling in EY, it is better to save their life by living elsewhere.

jf02: When you say “gay people” are you referring to people with the inclination (who don’t act on it) or people who engage in the act (and “proud”ly make it public)? If the former, you’d have a point. If the latter, you are incorrect.

    Agreed.

My opinion on this is that if the military people say it is important for morale or unit cohesion to exclude them, then fine. But there is no inherent reason to exclude them besides.

apers: Everyone that lives in eretz yisroel today doesn’t “automatically” die!! Most soldiers don’t die either, baruch hashem. There is risk in living in eretz yisroel, but the media vastly exaggerates it. Oh ya, and Hashem is constantly being doresh eretz yisroel, as we read in the parshah a few weeks ago….

rational- i dont believe they are. and i dont believe they (the establishment) really care an ounce for yiddishe blood. theres enough documentation of what occured during the holocaust to support that.

jfem- my point is not about their right to exist. far be it from me to condemn people to death. i just dont see how the army coming out in support of these people and them being accepted with open arms is how an army G-d supposedly supports is to act. imagine how you would feel if a couple hundred soldiers decided to publicize their taavos for children, even if they didnt act on it. its a skewed and distorted, western idea of how to approach the subject. in last weeks parshah we read how anyone who had aveiros was told to go home. hirhurei aveira, specifally when you are proud of it, cannot be ignored.

apers- you say that ???? doesn’t override ????? ???? That may not be true. When the ???”? argues on the ???”? and says that ???? ??? ????? is one of the ???”? ?????, he actually uses the phrase ????? ????- that ???? ??? ????? and ????? ??? ????? are connected. Now, a ????? ???? definitely overrides ????? ??? as there are few things more life threatening than fighting a war… and if ???? ??? ????? is part of a ????? ????, that might mean it also overrides ????? ???.
