I’m looking into upgrading to Windows 10.
Has anybody out there already done this and would like to give their opinion if it’s worth it?
August 30, 2015 2:21 am at 2:21 am #1098379JosephParticipantIf it ain’t broke don’t fix it. What’s wrong with Windows 7 that 10 fixes?
August 30, 2015 2:28 am at 2:28 am #1098380technical21ParticipantI know that I’m not answering your question, since I have chosen not to update to Windows 10 thus far.
I just want to point out that if you do, you should read the Privacy Policy very carefully, including the fine print- and make sure you do your research first. Apparently Windows 10 collects data about you the same way that Google does. I’m not saying that it’s a bad idea, just that you should look into it more first.
(I guess that’s what you’re doing here… but maybe check up from some more reliable sources.)

The upgrade process itself was not as smooth for me as it should have been, but fortunately there are a lot of very knowledgeable people who post work-arounds for just about any issue that one might encounter. Bear in mind that W-10 has been out for quite a while among volunteer testers and software developers, so a lot of the oddities have been discovered and addressed in some manner, though MS itself has been oddly slow about publicizing fixes.
One thing to consider is that in the default install settings, many of the privacy controls are set to share as much personal information as possible. That maximizes behind-the-scenes potential revenue-generating data gathering, which is what MS is counting on to recoup their investment in putting this all together and boost their profits over time.
One can override these settings during installation by choosing the custom set-up option and picking and choosing what gets shared carefully. Of course, nothing is foolproof, but it can cut down a lot of the marketing “noise” some people have complained about.

Microsoft has released Windows Updates to Win 7, 8 and 8.1 computers that allow them to collect the same sort of data as 10.

August 31, 2015 4:39 am at 4:39 am #1098384DikDukDuckParticipantI’d like to try it out, but otherwise 7 seems fine to me. (still miss the simplicity of XP)
August 31, 2015 7:54 am at 7:54 am #1098385shloime060MemberYou have nothing to worry about!?
I did download Windows 10 the very first day it was available July 29.?
It is very good, better than Windows 7 which I was running before.?
It comes with a lot of new nice features. The best part of it is that it was free and it will be ?free till the end of the remainder of the year July 28 2016.?
Consider also the fact that support for Windows 7 will end, they did not announce the deadline yet, ?but it is coming.?
The Start button is back, so what are you waiting for????
One tip! The download takes a little long, it took me about 2 hours, but, all depends on your system. ?The amount of RAM you have, and the speed of your processor.?

August 31, 2015 10:41 pm at 10:41 pm #1098390Happy Go Lucky!!ParticipantFunny.. I though Bill Gates is long gone from that company..
I however continue to work for Bill Gates. His last most USEFUL operating system – Windows XP (sp3). Yep, as per many, many reports, periodicals, etc, that was their peek, their pinnacle. Afterwards EVERY version was a step down south.
You can not get a computer today for “work”. You must tweak away, a zillion settings, to make it usable, somewhat convenient for “work”.
As one writer so well put it, today “we have to unlearn the easy way, and learn the hard way to do things”. Functionality, nothing too great has been introduced, no major earth shattering breakthroughs. They’re only gearing them and focused solely on becoming one with the smartphone devices. Todays’ systems have the goal of becoming better and better yet at play and play related… media.. virtual realistic this and that..
Hello Microsoft!! I need a computer system for work. (Darkened screen {ARE YOU SURE}, tiny button <Yes> large button <Remain in Playing Mode>)
There’s a reason for all the hype MS has been trying; (ending XP support, who needs support, had NO PROBLEMS!!!), throwing Windows 7 (all variations of versions) and disgusting 8 and 8.1 down everyone’s throat. Because, it’s just that, something forced upon the customers. (black screen: Are you sure?) XP was and IS the easiest and most useful operating system.
No wonder Bill Gates quit just as he saw the direction his company was taking.
