probably not
predictions (always subject to change) say this category 3 hurricane will turn east and miss the east coast by quite a bit.
however at this time, she is headed straight towards the upper east coast.
September 6, 2011 4:51 pm at 4:51 pm #806455am yisrael chaiParticipantMy forecast is a storm of offended posters for my opinion, but I believe Hashem is angry at the east coast with good reason.
There is much in Tanach that is said regarding legitimizing immoral behavior.
September 6, 2011 4:56 pm at 4:56 pm #806456TheGoqParticipantAyc was Hashem angry with Haiti? if so why?
September 6, 2011 5:03 pm at 5:03 pm #806457Raphael KaufmanMemberG-d has been apparently angry with Haiti for a long time, based the wreck the country has made of itself since 1819.
All models show Katia’s track to be far out in the Atlantic and well away from the East Coast of the U.S. Barring what would have to be a neis niglah, Katia will not bother us.
September 6, 2011 5:03 pm at 5:03 pm #806458☕️coffee addictParticipantAYC,
or better yet was Hashem angry at Virginia or NC?
(place where the earthquake and Irene hit strong)

I’d love to tell you that I’m privy to Hashem’s ???????, but I’m not.
I can just work with what Tanach and Chazal say. Every calamity anywhere is a wake up call for yidden.
And it’s good to “see” you here again, Goq

😀 Zuberman! 😀

computer models often go awry
September 6, 2011 6:04 pm at 6:04 pm #806466Raphael KaufmanMemberMod, no computer model in use today would predict that a hurricane could ignore the steering winds aloft and hang a hard left. Sure, the unpredictable sometimes happens but as Shlomo Hamelech says in Koheles, “The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that’s the way to bet.” (at least I think he says that.)
September 6, 2011 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #806467YW Moderator-80Memberit doesnt have to hang a left, right now it is headed directly to NY.
all it has to do is fail to hang a right before it gets there.
correct as i said the computer models are predicting that it will hang a right soon.
wind direction is allways unpredictable, at least within any degree of certainty.

It could have been a random tropical storm or something small anywhere that was letter J It doesn’t necessarily have to be a hurricane or something you would hear about
September 6, 2011 6:57 pm at 6:57 pm #806469YW Moderator-80Memberthere was already a jose, and also a lee, they both faded before amounting to much
September 6, 2011 6:57 pm at 6:57 pm #806470ronrsrMemberTjere was a hurricane Jose that fizzled.
September 6, 2011 7:46 pm at 7:46 pm #806471Avram in MDParticipantMod80,
The features that will cause Katia to turn (a break in the subtropical ridge and a large trough over the eastern U.S.) are already in place. At this point the situation is similar to watching a cork floating in a stream, and noticing a change in the current downstream. Of course the currents can change, but it is highly unlikely.
Don’t forget that there is a vigorous tropical disturbance to Katia’s southeast, about midway between the western coast of Africa and the lesser Antilles. There’s a good chance that it will become TS Maria soon.
Another interesting tidbit: the name Katia is the replacement for the now retired Katrina.
September 6, 2011 8:03 pm at 8:03 pm #806472YW Moderator-80Membercould be youre right
i only know ive seen actual hurricane paths end up very different from their projected path
many times
just as inland storms sometimes appear out of virtual nowhere, or predicted storms never show up
September 6, 2011 8:10 pm at 8:10 pm #806473☕️coffee addictParticipanti dont think anything will happen
irene was scheduled to hit miami and went north east instead
September 6, 2011 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #806474YW Moderator-80Memberi also dont think it will be a threat
just trying to stir up some excitement
September 6, 2011 11:56 pm at 11:56 pm #806475Emunas ItechaMembercoffee addict- Rabbi Wallerstein said in a recent shuir that it says in the gemara that Hashem will shake the earth when there is homosexuality. In places like california, where there is a fault, it doest apply because that is the nature of the land. But in Virginia and DC, and NY where rights were just permitted, caused the earthquake because Hashem it makes Hashem angry.

September 7, 2011 3:09 am at 3:09 am #806478happiestMemberNY is also built on a fault line but granted not as big as California.
Just thought I’d point that out, not like it has much to do with the topic at hand though;)

Listen to the second to last shuir- Ani Ldodi Vdodi Li. I was only saying what he said.
